00:00:09.520 Can you believe July 4th is almost here? I like can't wrap my head around the

00:00:14.280 fact that all of June has already passed and that July 4th is just around the

00:00:19.320 corner. But I really wanted to talk about how to spend the perfect July 4th

00:00:23.380 because July 4th is one of my absolute favorite holidays. It is so much fun and

00:00:28.320 it's such a great way to celebrate this country. So I was really excited to think

00:00:32.880 about and talk about how we can make that day even more special and really

00:00:37.700 what makes July 4th so much fun. But July 4th is just such a fun time and it's such

00:00:43.280 a great way to spend time with family too. And I know that this year it's going to

00:00:47.100 look a little bit different for a lot of people. We don't know exactly how many

00:00:50.560 places are going to actually be doing fireworks because they don't want a lot

00:00:53.380 of crowds with the quarantine, coronavirus, lockdown, whatever. But even with that I

00:00:57.460 really want to talk about how we can make July 4th special. So let's get into it.

00:01:01.720 The first way to make July 4th special is to get dressed up. I'm already all

00:01:06.420 dressed up here. You can see I've got my blue and white striped blazer and my red

00:01:11.260 shirt dress. So I've got that. I've got my blue and white scrunchies around my wrist

00:01:16.520 and I'm just feeling very patriotic in the way that I'm dressing. I did a whole

00:01:20.880 video on this. I posted it last week all about what kind of outfits you can put

00:01:25.100 together so that you can be comfortable, not be too hot for the holiday, but also

00:01:29.180 you'll just have like a really cute patriotic look for July 4th. Red, white, and blue are

00:01:35.200 such a good color scheme. They go together so well. So it totally makes sense that

00:01:40.620 outfits that incorporate those colors, red, white, and blue, are going to be super cute

00:01:45.460 and so easy to put together because they just match. So there are so many cute ways

00:01:50.240 you can dress up. You can wear a red shirt, white shoes, blue jeans, and that's an easy

00:01:55.060 look, or something like that. And there's just a bunch of ways that you can incorporate

00:01:59.160 those colors into your outfit. And it just makes it feel so much more special when you

00:02:03.380 put time into your outfit. It's like dressing up for any other holiday, getting dressed

00:02:06.980 up for Passover or for Easter and wearing something nice. Why not do that to celebrate

00:02:12.020 our country? Dress up, look nice, and it gets you in the mood even more for July 4th.

00:02:17.160 Next up is to do your makeup. It kind of goes in line with wearing something that's

00:02:21.120 patriotic. Do your makeup in a way that's patriotic. I'm also posting a video this

00:02:25.780 week of a way you can do your makeup for July 4th, and I did one last year too, but

00:02:30.580 it's one of my absolute favorite things to do on July 4th is to do my makeup in a

00:02:34.920 patriotic way. Anytime I can do my makeup themed, I'm gonna do it. So I figured I might

00:02:39.920 as well do it for July 4th too. And again, you have that awesome color scheme. Red, white,

00:02:44.020 and blue. Red lips, blue eyeshadow, a little bit of red eyeshadow if you want to get

00:02:48.020 really crazy with it. And then of course, you can just put a little bit of white on

00:02:51.460 your inner corners. But it is just so fun to really get dressed up and incorporate

00:02:56.880 those colors into not just your outfit, but also your makeup. The next thing that

00:03:01.540 you should do for July 4th is a very obvious one, and it's to have a barbecue

00:03:05.420 with your family. Having a barbecue is such an American pastime, isn't it? Getting a

00:03:10.640 hot dog with your family or a hamburger, and it kind of reminds you of going to a

00:03:14.160 ball game because you always get a hot dog and a beer when you're in the stands.

00:03:17.260 But it just is such a family activity to barbecue because the process of cooking is

00:03:23.120 usually done while everyone's there, which makes it kind of fun. And your dad is

00:03:26.960 maybe on the barbecue or your mom, depending on family, and everyone is just

00:03:30.540 sitting outside taking in the beautiful day because usually July 4th is pretty nice

00:03:35.320 outside, although it can be hot. But you know, for me, the heat is always great. I don't mind it.

00:03:40.000 So you have your whole family sitting outside. You're all enjoying a cold

00:03:44.080 beverage, maybe an alcoholic one, and you're all having family time. And then of

00:03:48.760 course, with the barbecue, you're not just having the hot dogs and the hamburgers, but

00:03:52.500 you're going to have fries, potatoes. If you want to get fancy, you can have guacamole

00:03:56.540 and salsa and just things that are delicious and have that nice outdoor feel. And you're

00:04:03.620 all together with your family while you eat these delicious foods. I'm telling you,

00:04:07.700 barbecue is just the best way to get your family together because it's an easy thing

00:04:11.960 to do. You just throw things on the grill and everyone is outside while you're

00:04:15.920 cooking. So you can really participate. A lot of the time, if you're the one hosting

00:04:19.700 a meal, you end up in the kitchen a lot of the night. And sometimes women will come in

00:04:23.600 and hang out with you to help. But when you're doing a barbecue, everyone is outside. And

00:04:27.740 it's like the kitchen is outdoors. So it's much more interactive with everyone. And you

00:04:32.580 don't really have to pay that close attention to what's going on. You sort of have an idea of what's

00:04:37.220 happening in the grill so you don't have to be keeping a close eye on it. And so you

00:04:41.540 can just close the top of it, sit down with your family, and then go back and check it.

00:04:45.620 Now, of course, if you're not in your family during this July 4th, you can still do a barbecue

00:04:49.780 with your friends. If you can have a small group with that social distancing thing, especially

00:04:54.440 if it's outdoors, you don't have to worry too much about it, you can still do a barbecue

00:04:58.160 and have a great time with friends and celebrate how patriotic you are and how much you love this

00:05:02.620 country. And you can enjoy the barbecue feel with people who you love even if they're not your

00:05:08.300 family. And so barbecues are fun even if it's not your family because you can enjoy it with friends

00:05:12.940 too. Now, the next thing that you can do to celebrate July 4th is to watch a patriotic movie.

00:05:18.060 Now, there are a bunch of different kinds of patriotic movies that you can watch and that you will

00:05:22.220 totally enjoy while you're expressing your love for America. So I'm not just talking about

00:05:28.060 straightforward ones. I got a whole host of options and I'm sure you guys know of some too.

00:05:32.700 A great one to watch is 1776. I absolutely love that musical and it tells the story of the

00:05:38.780 Declaration of Independence being signed. It is incredible and it's such a good education.

00:05:44.300 Truly wonderful and you should absolutely watch it if you haven't seen it. But if you're not in the

00:05:48.940 mood for a musical, and I will say my husband does not really like musicals, but this one is much more

00:05:55.340 like a play than a musical and he loved it. So if that makes you a little bit more interested,

00:06:01.660 if you're not super into musicals, I hope it does and maybe you'll check it out. But again,

00:06:06.140 if you're not super interested in watching a musical, you can also watch a sports movie.

00:06:10.620 There are so many good sports movies that really celebrate America. One of the ones that I love is

00:06:16.060 Miracle. Miracle is such a good movie. Kurt Russell is in it and it's all about the 1980 U.S. men's

00:06:22.700 hockey team when they go into the Olympics and it is such a great movie. It is so good and it will

00:06:28.300 make you so proud to be an American. So that's a good option. Watching sports movies is a really

00:06:33.820 fun way to feel that American pride. Now if you're not in the mood to watch either of those, you can

00:06:39.580 also watch National Treasure. I love that movie and it is so much fun and it's good for the kids too.

00:06:45.820 It's a great way to celebrate American history, learn more about it, and just feel that sense of pride

00:06:51.740 about being an American. So that's another great addition to your special July 4th day is watching

00:06:57.820 an American movie and a movie that inspires you to feel proud to be an American. Now of course another

00:07:04.060 amazing American pastime is to watch the fireworks on July 4th. I don't know if there are going to be

00:07:09.420 fireworks in a lot of places this year just because of what's going on with coronavirus so you'll have

00:07:13.260 to check and see, but if there are you should definitely go and watch them even if it's just from

00:07:18.460 your own backyard so you can enjoy. And of course make sure that you're being socially distanced

00:07:22.620 and taking care of yourself. But if you can watch them from a socially distanced place like at your

00:07:27.740 house or whatever, that is the best way to celebrate July 4th is watching those fireworks go off. And if

00:07:33.900 you're watching the fireworks from afar and you aren't going to be hearing the music that they might have

00:07:38.380 paired with that, you can put on music of your own. The best fireworks show I ever saw was when I was

00:07:44.140 actually in Maine doing an opera program and there was a huge fireworks show while the symphony was

00:07:49.820 playing and so having the music playing while you're watching the fireworks just makes it so much more

00:07:54.620 special. There are wonderful things you can put on, there are American playlists I'm sure on Spotify,

00:08:00.300 so you can listen to that and watch those fireworks go off and it is just the best, makes you feel so

00:08:06.300 proud and makes July 4th just that much more fun. Now if you're in a place where you're not going to be able

00:08:12.060 to watch fireworks, don't worry about it because there's a million of fireworks shows on YouTube.

00:08:17.580 Put that on. I know it seems like, ugh, what's the point? But there's something so special about

00:08:23.820 fireworks on July 4th. So even if they're not happening in your area, take the time to find it

00:08:29.100 online, watch a short show and just enjoy that. Just enjoy the fireworks because it does feel so special

00:08:42.460 dessert. I had a lot of fun with this because you can make blueberry, strawberry and frosting and make

00:08:48.940 cupcakes and things like that that have that red, white and blue color scheme and it's a really fun

00:08:53.660 project for moms and kids to participate in and do together because you can make desserts that really

00:08:59.340 are themed and after that barbecue you know you're going to want a dessert so you might as well

00:09:04.700 make a patriotic one. I remember there was one year that I made a cake that was really patriotic

00:09:09.500 because I actually cut it in the shape of a star and then I got fondant and dyed each layer of

00:09:14.780 fondant a different color so I did the whole thing was blue and then I took some and made it white and

00:09:19.260 some of it red and made that into a flag over the top and I felt so inspired by doing that and it was

00:09:25.500 just so much fun and it's a good project to do with your kids and as well it just gets you guys even

00:09:36.700 have some fun with water because it is probably going to be very hot where you are and you might

00:09:42.220 as well enjoy it so if you have a pool get in the pool if you're near a beach go to a beach and if

00:09:47.580 you're not near any of those just get some water balloons and water guns and make sure to have fun
