00:00:00.120 Hello, Classic Crew, and welcome to another episode of The Scoop.
00:00:06.820 If you are new to my channel, The Scoop is our chance to just catch up about what went
00:00:11.320 on over the course of the week, chat, imagine that we're grabbing a cup of coffee together,
00:00:15.900 and just kind of talk about what's been going on in our lives.
00:00:18.660 I always love hearing what you guys have been up to as well, so please let me know in the
00:00:22.900 comments down below.
00:00:24.160 Grab yourself a cup of coffee, a cup of tea.
00:00:26.560 I've got an iced coffee because even though it's fall, it's still 80 degrees outside in
00:00:31.660 Nebraska, and let's get into it.
00:00:33.660 So the first thing I want to talk about is a huge piece of news, a big life update, something
00:00:39.260 I've been keeping to myself for a couple of weeks now, and I've been really wanting to
00:00:44.400 share it with you guys, and I am so excited to tell you that Jacob and I are moving.
00:00:50.080 Jacob and I are actually moving to Virginia.
00:00:52.720 So if you know, we currently live in Nebraska, but before we moved here, we did live in Virginia.
00:00:58.240 My husband was studying law at the University of Virginia, and so we lived in Charlottesville
00:01:02.920 for a year together, and then we moved to Nebraska, and now we're moving back to Virginia.
00:01:10.020 I am really excited about it.
00:01:12.880 I absolutely love Virginia.
00:01:15.480 Virginia is one of my favorite places on earth.
00:01:17.780 I never would have thought that growing up.
00:01:20.160 I never imagined I would move to Virginia and then love it and then want to move back,
00:01:24.580 but I'm really, really excited about it.
00:01:27.760 Virginia is so beautiful.
00:01:29.260 We have a ton of friends in the area, and it's just a lovely place to be.
00:01:34.740 It'll work out well for both of us.
00:01:36.560 I can work from absolutely anywhere, but Virginia is a lovely place to work.
00:01:40.340 I'm very happy about it.
00:01:41.820 I am going to miss Nebraska terribly.
00:01:44.120 Jacob and I have loved our time here, and we absolutely loved being in Omaha.
00:01:49.160 This is a great state.
00:01:50.740 If you ever have an opportunity to pick up and move somewhere just for an amazing quality
00:01:56.080 of life, Omaha is a wonderful place to be.
00:01:59.400 Nothing is further than 20 minutes away from you.
00:02:01.920 The cost of living is so low.
00:02:04.700 Everything is just easy out here in Nebraska, and we have been so blessed and so lucky to
00:02:10.420 have been here.
00:02:10.960 I am so grateful for the opportunity that we had to actually live in the middle of the
00:02:15.520 country.
00:02:16.020 I can't tell you how wonderful the people are here and how wonderful life has been out
00:02:21.040 here.
00:02:21.360 I just feel so, so blessed, but I'm really excited for our next step into the future,
00:02:26.540 and I really can't wait.
00:02:28.820 So I'm so excited.
00:02:30.280 I really wanted to share that with you for a while now.
00:02:33.040 Things are going to be changing for me and Jacob a bit, and that is going to be really exciting.
00:02:38.200 I look forward to new things.
00:02:39.620 I look forward to changes.
00:02:41.420 I am not somebody who likes the process of change, but the idea of change is great,
00:02:46.700 aka I don't like packing up and moving and waiting to figure out quotes from movers and
00:02:51.660 all that.
00:02:52.040 That's less fun, but the actual moving and getting there and doing something new is very,
00:02:57.800 very exciting.
00:02:59.380 But with all that in mind, I did want to let you guys know that my filming schedule is
00:03:03.620 going to be off for a couple of weeks as we are moving, as we're getting things in
00:03:08.280 place.
00:03:09.780 It's just a little bit tricky to get everything done, and I did want to let you know that
00:03:12.840 I'm not going to be able to put out four videos a week for a couple of weeks.
00:03:15.940 I think I'm going to be doing two weeks with just one video, and then I will be back on
00:03:20.940 schedule.
00:03:21.600 Hopefully, there may be a couple of videos that won't be in my normal studio space.
00:03:26.520 Of course, when we move, I will still have a studio, so I'm going to have this space set
00:03:31.520 up.
00:03:31.620 You probably won't even be able to tell the difference.
00:03:33.080 But if we're in the midst of moving and I still need to put out some videos, you may
00:03:36.780 get some sort of weird-looking background that isn't actually something that is normal to
00:03:41.620 us.
00:03:42.000 So I apologize in advance if that's the case, but I did want to let you know that I
00:03:46.560 will still be putting out a video next week and the week after, but it'll just be one
00:03:50.900 video as opposed to four.
00:03:52.540 So look out for that on Wednesdays.
00:03:54.800 And then we should be back to normal programming if everything goes well.
00:03:58.120 So we shall see, but I did want to let you guys know about that.
00:04:02.020 If you're from Nebraska or if you've been to Nebraska, let me know in the comments.
00:04:05.720 I'd love for you guys to share your favorite things about being in Nebraska.
00:04:09.420 I have absolutely loved it here, so I want to keep talking it up so other people know
00:04:14.000 how great it is.
00:04:14.940 And if you are from Virginia, I'd love to hear what you love about that since that's
00:04:19.380 where we're heading.
00:04:20.040 So I just wanted to let you guys know I'm really excited about this, and let's move on
00:04:24.380 to the next thing.
00:04:24.920 So this weekend, weekend-ish, it's Sunday night to Monday, is Yom Kippur, and last weekend
00:04:30.980 was Rosh Hashanah.
00:04:31.620 So we did talk about Rosh Hashanah last week on last week's episode of The Scoop.
00:04:35.040 I can link that here.
00:04:36.160 But this coming weekend is Yom Kippur, and Yom Kippur is a very, very serious day for
00:04:41.260 Jewish people.
00:04:42.300 It's a fast day, and we are atoning for our sins because it is considered the day of
00:04:46.280 judgment.
00:04:46.740 This is the day that the Book of Life and Death is sealed, and we really have to pray
00:04:51.040 to God for forgiveness, for repentance.
00:04:53.500 It's really more about us internally trying to make a change for the upcoming year to
00:04:58.940 be better, to grow.
00:05:00.260 I find that actually very moving, and it's something that I really enjoy, is the process
00:05:05.540 of thinking about, okay, how can I really improve?
00:05:08.220 Not just resolutions, but how can I be a better person?
00:05:12.220 And there are a few things that we do on the holiday that are unique, so I thought I would
00:05:16.820 share those with you guys.
00:05:17.620 So on Yom Kippur, it's actually considered the holiest day of the year, and we are considered
00:05:22.100 to be the closest to God in that moment.
00:05:24.280 And we want to be as if we are angels.
00:05:26.780 That's kind of the idea, is that we are going to be as pure as angels on this day.
00:05:31.420 We are purified from all of our misdeeds over the last year, and we're kind of reborn at
00:05:35.460 the end of Yom Kippur.
00:05:37.360 And in order for us to be more like angels, we deny ourselves bodily needs because angels
00:05:42.880 don't have those same needs, right?
00:05:44.700 They are spiritual beings, not physical ones.
00:05:47.120 So the first thing that we do is we wear all white.
00:05:49.540 Now, this isn't a hard and fast rule, but it's something that a lot of people do.
00:05:53.280 They wear white to be pure and look like angels.
00:05:57.080 And we do not wear leather.
00:05:58.660 We do not wear leather shoes or leather belts.
00:06:00.640 We don't take showers, and we don't apply lotions or creams.
00:06:04.080 And of course, like I said, it's a fast day, so we don't eat or drink.
00:06:07.480 And on this day, at the very end, this is the last time we get to hear the shofar this
00:06:11.720 year, and we're going to blow the shofar right at the end as the gates are closing for us
00:06:16.660 to pray to God to change our inscription in the book of Life and Death.
00:06:21.460 So Yom Kippur is coming up.
00:06:23.020 It's a very serious day, but I look forward to it.
00:06:25.740 I think a lot of Jews understand that it is a hard day, but it's also one that we can
00:06:29.840 find redemption, and that's very hopeful.
00:06:32.420 And it's also a time for community, because so many Jews, no matter what your level of
00:06:37.800 observance is, show up at synagogue for Yom Kippur.
00:06:40.840 So you are going to see people who you may not see the rest of the year, and that does
00:06:45.140 bring a community together, which is very, very special.
00:06:48.620 So that's the next Jewish holiday coming up.
00:06:50.600 We also have Sukkot and Shemini Yetzaret and Simchat Torah.
00:06:54.200 Those are other Jewish holidays.
00:06:55.800 I don't know that I'm going to be able to give you guys kind of a roundup of what those
00:06:59.760 holidays are, because I will be moving, and I don't know that I'll have videos going out
00:07:03.840 at those times, but we will at some point get to all of the Jewish holidays.
00:07:08.900 Maybe I'll make a dedicated video to it.
00:07:10.620 Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in.
00:07:12.600 Next up, I wanted to talk about what I have been reading.
00:07:15.440 So I have been reading Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind.
00:07:19.460 I have started kind of a new little morning routine.
00:07:22.640 I generally kind of switch in and out of morning routines.
00:07:26.020 I'd like to get a little bit more solid with it, but lately I've been doing a morning
00:07:29.760 routine that I've been really enjoying, and that has been waking up, kind of letting the
00:07:35.540 sun stream in while I drink a cup of coffee, whether that be iced or hot, and then reading
00:07:40.740 The Righteous Mind with a notebook so I can take notes.
00:07:43.400 And it just really allows me to focus.
00:07:45.400 And there are certain books that I really want to read and remember things and kind of
00:07:49.860 engage with.
00:07:51.020 Not so much with fiction generally, but with nonfiction, I do enjoy it for its purpose.
00:07:56.400 But it's not easy, light reading.
00:07:58.340 It's stuff that matters.
00:08:00.120 When I want to engage with it, I will sit down with a notebook and a pen, and I'll really
00:08:03.420 take notes on what I'm reading.
00:08:04.920 So I'm pretty early on in the book.
00:08:07.340 I'm really enjoying it so far.
00:08:09.180 And I've been finding that really taking the time to take notes, just kind of sit in the
00:08:14.660 quiet in the morning while the sun streams in.
00:08:16.860 It makes me feel more productive early on in the day.
00:08:20.920 And I really like that.
00:08:22.960 I think in my dreams, I'd really like to add to this morning routine and start reading
00:08:28.500 a little bit of the Torah each day, as well as saying my morning prayers more consistently,
00:08:32.660 because I'm not always consistent with that.
00:08:34.820 But that, to me, would be a really good way to spend my mornings making me feel more productive.
00:08:40.680 I'd love to hear what you guys are reading, because I know you guys are big readers.
00:08:44.920 So I'd really love to hear what kind of things you've been reading lately.
00:08:47.880 If you've read Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind, I'd love to hear it in the comments,
00:08:51.340 so let me know.
00:08:52.180 Next up, I wanted to talk about the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
00:08:56.180 May she rest in peace.
00:08:57.640 I may not have agreed with many of her rulings while she was on the Supreme Court, but I did
00:09:02.420 want to mention one thing that I think we can all learn from her, and that is about her
00:09:08.160 relationship with Justice Scalia.
00:09:10.940 Justice Ginsburg and Justice Scalia were always very good friends.
00:09:14.920 And I think that's a really important lesson for us in today's day and age, where the political
00:09:20.360 divide is so large, if you even try to cross it, you're going to fall into the ravine.
00:09:25.300 We can have friends who have different views than we do.
00:09:29.200 I know that I do.
00:09:30.240 I have plenty of friends who disagree with me.
00:09:32.960 But just because they disagree with me doesn't mean we can't view them as people.
00:09:37.500 It doesn't mean that they can't view us as humans.
00:09:40.140 It doesn't mean that they're bad or that we're bad.
00:09:42.920 It just means that we can disagree, and hopefully we can all work together to make this country
00:09:48.220 a better place.
00:09:49.440 But the fact that we've made it so polarizing to have a conversation with someone who is
00:09:55.140 on the opposite side of the aisle, it just means that this country is going to get ever
00:09:59.460 more divided.
00:10:00.480 So if there's something that we can take away from the passing of Justice Ginsburg, I think
00:10:05.260 it's that we can still be friends with people, even if they disagree with our political views.
00:10:09.400 And that is an inspiring thing to see.
00:10:12.860 And last but not least, I wanted to talk about Amy Coney Barrett briefly.
00:10:16.200 People think she's going to be the next Supreme Court nominee.
00:10:19.260 And I actually met her about a year ago, maybe two years ago, at the Federalist Society's meeting
00:10:25.480 at UVA Law.
00:10:27.340 And she was lovely.
00:10:29.280 She was a lovely, lovely woman.
00:10:31.040 It was when Classically Abby was really in its infancy, and I spoke to her about it a
00:10:35.200 little bit.
00:10:35.820 And she was so kind and so interested.
00:10:39.400 And I look forward to seeing what happens with that.
00:10:43.240 That's it for today's video.
00:10:44.900 I hope you guys enjoyed it.
00:10:46.360 I'd love to hear all of your thoughts in the comments below.
