00:00:00.000 Hello Classic Crew and welcome to today's video where we're going to be talking about my 2022
00:00:06.160 New Year's goals. So first of all, Happy New Year. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas
00:00:17.740 and a Happy New Year. I fell asleep very early. I'm officially in the third trimester and that
00:00:25.500 first week of the third trimester was really hitting me hard. So I was really tired at about
00:00:31.400 8.30. I did push it till about 10.30, but I was in bed pretty early. I did not make it to midnight
00:00:37.920 and yeah, that was my new year, but it was still a lot of fun and I got to spend it with Jacob,
00:00:44.380 which always is lovely and special. But I hope you guys had a really wonderful New Year's as well.
00:00:50.120 But today I want to share with you guys my goals for this upcoming new year. Of course,
00:00:56.400 my goals are going to be really about improving as a person so that I can make myself the best
00:01:00.620 person I can be before I become a mother. So a lot of my goals are broad enough that anyone could
00:01:06.680 take them to heart, but for me are done with the perspective that I want to be a better person by
00:01:13.520 the time my son is born. So I'm really excited to share with you guys what my goals are. I think you
00:01:18.580 guys can take some inspiration from them as well. And I'd love to know what your new year's goals
00:01:23.280 are as well in the comments. So make sure to leave some of them down below. If you are new to my
00:01:28.040 channel, I would love if you would consider subscribing and hitting that notification bell
00:01:31.540 so you can get notified of all my new videos. Here on my channel, we talk about classic living
00:01:35.360 and traditional values. So if you love that stuff like I do, I would love if you would consider
00:01:40.480 being part of the classic crew. And if you aren't already subscribed to my Substack newsletter,
00:01:45.040 make sure to head over to classicallyabby.substack.com where you will get access to a ton of exclusive
00:01:51.780 content not available anywhere else. Now let's get into today's video. So my first goal for 2022,
00:01:59.780 and I make this goal every year and I'm starting to realize I think maybe I need to break it into
00:02:04.180 smaller pieces, is to get off my phone more. I know that I talk about this. I'm pretty sure this
00:02:09.700 was in my goals last year. And I go through phases where I really do get off my phone more than
00:02:14.880 I was on it. But it's not consistent. And I want to be better about being consistent,
00:02:20.240 especially with a newborn coming. I can imagine that there's so much free time when you have a
00:02:25.460 little baby and you're bored and it's easy to get on your phone and waste time. And I don't want to do
00:02:31.620 that. I also don't want to be using my phone in front of the baby a lot. I think that's a bad policy.
00:02:37.860 So I really want to work on getting off of my phone. It is one of the things I've mentioned about
00:02:44.080 being intentional and deliberate with my time and my energy. And using your phone is one of those
00:02:49.600 ways where you are not going to be intentional and deliberate with those things, with your time and
00:02:54.260 your energy. You are just going to waste it and while away the time. So I really am looking forward
00:02:59.540 to making an effort to getting my phone out of the way more. And I'm trying to think now, we're going
00:03:06.880 to think on the fly together. If you guys have ideas, leave them in the comments too, of like ways to make
00:03:11.920 this into a smaller project. Instead of just saying, get off your phone more, maybe there's some more
00:03:17.820 like bite-sized things I can do. So maybe when I want to reach for my phone to just do something
00:03:24.820 silly, instead of doing that, I can reach for a book. Or if I want to reach for my phone, I can go to
00:03:33.460 the computer because the computer is a lot less absorbing than the phone. The phone can come with
00:03:38.780 you anywhere. It can do anything. But if you go on the computer, at least for me, it's much more of a
00:03:44.000 finite period of time. So if instead of going on my phone, I just go to the computer. Infinite scroll
00:03:49.920 is a little bit different on a computer than it is on a phone. So if I don't do that, if I say, okay,
00:03:55.280 instead of going on my phone, I'm going to go to the computer. Or if instead of going on my phone,
00:03:58.420 I decide I'm going to read a book, just trying to make things into smaller bite-sized chunks,
00:04:02.880 if that makes sense. So I'm trying to think of other things that I can do because I know that
00:04:08.040 my biggest time sucks or my biggest time wasters or the things that I do without thinking about
00:04:13.900 are hopping on Instagram. Instagram is a dangerous one because I do use it for my work,
00:04:19.520 but sometimes it can cross over into just wanting to scroll. And I think that that's kind of my
00:04:25.060 biggest temptation. So I think every time I want to hit Instagram, I'm just going to tell myself
00:04:29.520 to pause and ask myself if that's really what I want to be doing, which I've already started to
00:04:34.260 do. And I've seen an improvement. I've seen an improvement where if I want to tap on Instagram
00:04:38.780 and I recognize that I'm doing it, I'll be like, oh, do I really want to do this right now? And it'll
00:04:43.660 stop me. So yeah, that is my first goal. I just wanted to talk that through a little bit with you
00:04:49.340 guys. But let me know your thoughts in the comments for that one, because I know that's something we
00:04:53.360 all struggle with. And it's so much more classic to be somebody who can enjoy the silence
00:04:58.580 and enjoy their time at home without feeling like they need constant distraction and stimulation.
00:05:04.460 So I really want to work on that for myself because I do work from home and soon I'm going
00:05:09.440 to have a baby at home. I want to work on how to enjoy the times that it's just quiet
00:05:15.840 and take advantage of them. So yeah, my second goal for 2022 is get my housework under control.
00:05:25.020 So there are so many different methods for this. And I know I think I've talked about the fly lady
00:05:30.460 method on here before, and I want to read into that more. But what I really want to do is get
00:05:35.880 on a schedule. I know that there are so many different ways you can approach it. And one of
00:05:41.440 the things I would like to do is say, okay, Mondays, I'm going to do this. Tuesdays, I'm going to do
00:05:44.680 this. This is something that needs to get done every day and splitting and dividing the housework so
00:05:49.560 that it's something that I enjoy. And it's something that I approach with a better eye toward
00:05:54.240 time management. So I really love schedules. I love to do lists. And sometimes I think what happens
00:06:02.080 with housework is that the things that you do every day, like washing the dishes and putting them away,
00:06:08.060 that'll always get done. But something that you don't do all the time, like take the time to clean
00:06:12.440 the whole bathroom, that can slip through the cracks. And then you suddenly realize that you've like
00:06:16.700 not cleaned the bathroom for two weeks or three weeks. So putting in to like a master calendar by
00:06:23.160 housework is a goal of mine. I want to start recognizing, okay, I want to vacuum once a week,
00:06:28.700 and I want to clean the floor in the kitchen twice a week. And I want to clean the bathrooms once a week
00:06:34.080 and choose a different day of the week for those bigger projects. But then it doesn't build up into
00:06:39.520 this huge project all at once when you haven't cleaned anything at all. So like laundry, something,
00:06:46.480 I'll probably do every day. And folding laundry is something I'll do every day. But it's just
00:06:49.740 smaller, smaller bites, smaller bite-sized chunks. I feel like that's a theme for this year.
00:06:54.920 And cleaning the dishes. I do that every single day. But I want to make sure that everything I want
00:06:59.840 to get done gets done. And it doesn't feel like, oh my gosh, I forgot this big project when it comes
00:07:05.140 to housework. So that's something I really want to work on. If you have good recommendations,
00:07:09.480 leave them in the comments. My third goal for 2022, and this one's more of a fun one,
00:07:15.120 is to start printing out recipes we like and making a binder. Or writing them by hand and
00:07:21.140 buying one of those beautiful books. That's something in my Amazon cart that I'm deciding
00:07:24.600 about. So basically, Jacob and I have a bunch of cookbooks. And we also will go online and find
00:07:33.540 recipes. And I want to start compiling our favorites in one place. That doesn't mean I never want to reach
00:07:40.100 for our cookbooks. But it means that on a night when we just can't decide what we want to make,
00:07:45.680 we can always go to our favorites. And we know, okay, we love this. We love that. And instead of
00:07:51.960 having to go online and remember which one we did before, we just have the recipe right in front of
00:07:57.480 us. And the thing that I also love about that is that you can kind of pass that on to your kids.
00:08:02.160 You can say, okay, well, these are our favorite recipes. And you guys can make copies of them and
00:08:07.360 have your own version or take the original and whatever else. But I really like the idea of
00:08:13.040 making a recipe book and having one that's like for your family. Recipes that everyone is enjoying
00:08:19.180 and I have easy access to. And Jacob actually told me, he's like, I don't really like the idea of you
00:08:25.040 printing them and putting them in a binder. I think it would be just more classic for you to actually
00:08:29.840 write them down in one of these beautiful books. And I agree. It is much more classic. It's much more
00:08:34.760 traditional. So I think I'm going to go ahead and do that. And I love the idea of that. And I think
00:08:39.880 that's just like a really pleasant, nice goal. And also a very useful one. One that I can actually
00:08:45.840 use and it will make my life easier. So that's something that I'm definitely planning on doing
00:08:50.320 this year. My fourth goal for this year is to pray more regularly. So we have Sabbath every single
00:08:57.920 Saturday, Friday night into Saturday. And we do pray every single Sabbath. But I want to get into
00:09:04.040 the habit of praying every day. And we have a written out liturgy. It's all in Hebrew. And we can
00:09:10.600 make it long or you can just pick out certain things to say every day. And women aren't required to say 1.00
00:09:17.280 the prayers. But I think for me, it would be helpful to find a prayer and say it every single day. And if
00:09:22.720 at some point I have the time, I can expand that and make it longer. But for example, there's one prayer
00:09:28.800 that I really like. It's called Ashray. And I really love saying it. So if I said that every
00:09:34.200 single day, I think that would just be really a nice way for me to connect with God. Praying is
00:09:39.520 something that is so important, right? I always talk about faith, family, and community. Those are
00:09:43.520 the three things of a traditional and classic way of life. And if you're going to have a good
00:09:49.440 relationship with God, I think it's important to have that conversation with him every single day
00:09:53.460 and keep him as part of your daily life. And so I want to engage with that more. And I think by
00:10:01.140 praying to him, it'll keep him in my mind more often and make me remember on those times where
00:10:07.680 I'm feeling a little more anxious or worried that he's there. So that is something I'm really
00:10:13.340 hoping to incorporate into my daily practice of life is just praying in the morning and thinking
00:10:20.360 about my relationship to God on a more frequent level so that it's not just something that of
00:10:26.700 course I think of being Jewish and I think of God, but it's not necessarily my immediate response when
00:10:33.360 I'm feeling anxious. And I think if I pray more regularly, it will be. My last goal for 2022 is to
00:10:39.740 come up with better ways to take care of my mental health. So I talk about here on my channel a lot,
00:10:47.300 the idea of self-care, which I don't recommend, I don't like it, versus taking care of ourselves.
00:10:55.000 So what self-care implies in today's day and age is kind of like, oh, take a bath or like have a cup
00:11:01.920 of wine. And it's all very after the fact, as opposed to taking care of yourself regularly. So you
00:11:09.340 don't need to get to the point of being so overwhelmed that you just need everyone to go away so that you
00:11:15.040 can have some time alone or however else. Self-care to me is much more like a band-aid than it is like
00:11:22.400 a regular maintenance check. And I want to be better about doing regular maintenance checks. I think
00:11:30.680 that it is very easy to get caught up in this culture of go, go, go, go, go. Don't recognize that you're
00:11:36.620 like missing out on taking care of yourself. And then all of a sudden, you're really stressed and
00:11:40.240 overwhelmed. And now you have to do something in that self-care category. I know that I've made that
00:11:46.020 mistake and I've made it this year. You know, there are times where I'm like, oh, I just need to like
00:11:50.300 take a minute instead of working on improving my daily habits and my daily life so that I don't have
00:11:57.680 to do that or so that I do it less frequently. So I think a lot of what I'm talking about for my goals
00:12:03.800 this year is being regular, deliberate, consistent about good habits and making sure that I really
00:12:11.180 do put in the time and effort to keep everything compartmentalized in its space, organized, and I can
00:12:20.760 approach life as if it's not chaos. And basically, I think just like the last couple weeks of the year
00:12:26.640 always feel a little chaotic. So that might be where these feelings and thoughts are coming from.
00:12:30.540 But I'm looking forward in 2022 to just reorganizing and restructuring again so that it feels like,
00:12:36.280 okay, every day has a specific schedule and I can approach it with more deliberateness. So that is
00:12:44.620 sort of on my mind. And I think that includes taking care of myself in a better way. So I think some
00:12:51.220 ways that I can do this are if I'm starting to feel overwhelmed, taking a few minutes, writing out a list,
00:12:57.520 and then just sitting with Jacob and enjoying a show. I don't like the idea that I need to like
00:13:03.620 watch a show by myself, be alone, isolate myself so that I can just kind of zone out
00:13:10.140 to take care of myself. I don't think that that's real taking care of yourself. Taking care of yourself
00:13:15.060 is taking steps to remove the things that are upsetting you or to solve the things and resolve
00:13:21.200 the things that are upsetting you so that you can then enjoy time with other people. So that's what I
00:13:26.800 really want to work on because I think that it's so easy to go to this place of like, I deserve this
00:13:31.920 and then you get time alone. And honestly, you don't feel much better. You still feel kind of
00:13:36.800 crappy. I don't want that. I want to feel good and refreshed and feel like I can approach my family
00:13:44.120 in a good and positive way after I've resolved my own problems. So that is it for today's video.
00:13:50.680 I hope you guys enjoyed it. I hope you guys took something from it. I'd love to know your goals for 2022.
00:13:56.020 I hope we all have a wonderful year this year. If you haven't already subscribed to my channel,
00:14:01.460 make sure to do so right now. And if you're not following me on social media, it's at
00:14:05.400 Classically Abby absolutely everywhere. If you want to be more involved in my daily life, Instagram is
00:14:10.420 probably the best place for that. And Twitter is where I get a little more sassy. So those are the
00:14:15.480 best places to find me. But I am on Pinterest and Facebook as well. And if you'd like to follow me
00:14:19.860 on Substack so you can get access to my book club, for example, make sure to do that too. So I'll see
00:14:24.860 you guys in my next video. Bye.
