hello classic crew and welcome back to another episode of the festival of bites
00:00:12.960
so i actually tried this recipe last night and i think it came out pretty well i just need to roll
00:00:18.640
out the dough a little bit thinner but roti is an indian flatbread but it is a very simple recipe
00:00:24.160
and it's delicious and it is fried so as you all know if you've been watching the festival of bites
00:00:28.560

00:00:32.720

weekly articles and my book club so let's get into it so what you will need to make roti is
00:01:10.080
two cups of bread flour or all-purpose flour one teaspoon salt two tablespoons melted butter or
00:01:16.400
vegetable oil two-thirds cup of water and butter for frying as far as tools you will definitely need
00:01:23.280
a rolling pin and a frying pan so i'm going to go ahead and measure everything out i'm going to
00:01:30.400
knead it all together i have to take off my rings so that they don't get covered in dough and then we
00:01:35.280
can go ahead and fry them up this is going to be a pretty quick video because roti is pretty simple
00:01:39.920
to make so let's get started alrighty so we're going to start off by putting in four cups of the bread
00:01:45.520
flour because i'm doubling the recipe i need to put in twice as much of everything so i'm going to pop
00:01:51.680
open this bag here and i'm going to scoop in four cups
00:02:08.560
i'm going to keep the flour out because when i am fashioning these and rolling them out all that stuff
00:02:14.720
i'm going to need some flour to keep it from sticking to my hands next up i'm going to put in two
00:02:20.560
teaspoons of salt and four tablespoons of vegetable oil
00:02:29.440
and next up i'm going to put in one and a third cup of water
00:02:46.640
now i'm going to take off my wedding rings and we are going to knead this
00:02:50.400
now i am not an expert neater by any means generally i use a bread maker when i am making bread
00:03:00.880
but because obviously this is not going to be baked in the bread maker and there's no yeast
00:03:04.640
and this doesn't really even need to rest i'm just going to do it with my hands
00:03:09.840
now what it says in the recipe is that if this is getting too dry you can add like a very little
00:03:15.920
bit of water like half a tablespoon to get it to kind of mesh together i'm going to try and get this
00:03:23.440
to knead without adding any water because that just changes the texture of the dough which is not what
00:03:31.360
we want if this feels too dry though i will add a little bit of extra water and on every street corner
00:03:48.240
okay so that is the dough needed it looks great actually i didn't have to add any extra water which
00:03:53.280
is awesome and i'm just going to start separating this into equal portions small little balls that i can
00:04:00.640
break into pieces and that will be equal and then we'll start rolling them out so we can put them
00:04:04.800
in a pan okay so we've got these they're all like generally the same size if some are bigger than
00:04:20.400
others it really doesn't matter because they don't need to bake at the same rate so i'm going to grab
00:04:25.360
a cutting board just because it's easier to roll on that and we will roll these out so i'm just going
00:04:31.360
to sprinkle some flour onto my surface i'm going to start heating up the pan i'm going to put some of
00:04:38.800
the flour on my hands as well and i'm going to pat this out a bit and place it on here i'm also going
00:04:46.720
to take some flour and put it on my rolling pin and we are going to start rolling it out
00:05:00.480
and if the circles aren't perfect literally no one cares
00:05:05.440
at least i don't i'm somebody who is like oh it's gonna taste good no matter what plus it shows that
00:05:10.960
it was handmade when it's rolled out and it's not super even oh wow this is a beautiful consistency
00:05:19.920
really thin so i moved the camera and the first thing that we're going to do is we're going to add
00:05:28.480
and you can see the pan is hot so it's immediately coating the bottom of the pan here
00:05:42.960
and i'm going to take this roti very thinly rolled out we're going to put this in the pan
00:05:49.520
now it should only need a few seconds on the first side according to the recipe you can see
00:05:58.960
it's kind of bubbling or you should be able to see it and then i'm going to flip it
00:06:10.320
and now we just let it kind of crisp up and you'll know it's ready when it has brown spots like brown
00:06:18.480
fry spots on it but you can see there's bubbles which is a very good sign so i'm just going to
00:06:22.800
let that fry up and i'm just going to keep rolling out more dough
00:06:43.120
okay friends so you might be able to see that i'm still in the process of making the roti i've got
00:07:02.720
a bunch lined up and ready to go but i figure i will sit and try this because they smell too good
00:07:09.680
not to try so here is my little roti right here and let's go ahead and dig in
00:07:21.840
so good and so simple i highly recommend making these if you're in a rush but you want to impress
00:07:28.560
your guests this is a great option because it's a bread option but it it's so easy and fast and it
00:07:34.560
