00:00:00.000 Hello, friends, and welcome to today's video where I'm going to be talking about my skin story and my skincare routine.
00:00:14.260 As you can probably tell, I'm not wearing any makeup.
00:00:17.100 And the reason I'm doing this is because I never used to feel comfortable going outside without makeup.
00:00:22.100 So it's kind of a crazy story. I used to have really, really bad skin.
00:00:26.340 I used to get acne all over my face, my cheeks, my forehead, my chin.
00:00:31.640 It was just awful, and I felt really embarrassed about it.
00:00:34.800 I don't think that it is something that we should be embarrassed about, but it was embarrassing for me, and I understand why you would be embarrassed.
00:00:41.220 That was between the ages of about 15 to 21, and I just was breaking out, and I couldn't stop it.
00:00:49.020 So the thing that I want to start with is that if you're seeing a dermatologist, listen to them.
00:00:54.580 So I know that sounds obvious, but here's why I'm saying it.
00:00:58.260 When I saw a dermatologist, they would always give me products, and then they would say, give it six weeks to work.
00:01:04.000 And I would get two or three weeks in, and I would think to myself, well, nothing is happening.
00:01:08.600 I'm not seeing any kind of difference. I think I'm just going to give up on this.
00:01:12.140 This isn't the product for me.
00:01:13.540 Well, what I realized is that when I actually stuck with a product that my dermatologist gave me, it wasn't until the end of the sixth week that I saw any results, which is crazy to think about.
00:01:25.340 But I really didn't even see my skin completely clear up until, like, three months from when the doctor gave me these couple of topical products.
00:01:33.900 So that's my first really big piece of advice.
00:01:37.080 If your dermatologist tells you to try a product for about six weeks, try it for the full six weeks, and then see if you even start to see results by the end of that, because that was what made the biggest difference for me.
00:01:47.860 So at the same time that I started using these topical creams, I also bought on Amazon a rubber mechanical exfoliator.
00:01:57.480 I don't know what you would call it, but it's kind of a knockoff of the Foreo from Sephora, which is very expensive, but I think I got mine for, like, $18.
00:02:05.320 And I've used it for, it's been three or four years now, and it is as good now as it was when I bought it.
00:02:10.960 So I definitely think you can work with something you get off Amazon.
00:02:14.340 But it was that, in conjunction with these creams, that I think made the biggest difference for me.
00:02:20.720 Those things, I think, are the biggest part of my routine.
00:02:22.840 So now that I've kind of told you about how I used to have really bad skin, and now I have clear skin after seeing my dermatologist, I can tell you about my skincare routine.
00:02:30.460 What I have to tell you about my skincare routine is that it's not very complicated at all.
00:02:34.600 I don't have a lot of fancy products.
00:02:36.600 Most of my products, or all of them, come from the drugstore.
00:02:40.360 So I am a very low-key kind of girl when it comes to this kind of thing.
00:02:43.720 When I spoke to my dermatologist, he highly recommended that I use Neutrogena, because Neutrogena is dermatologist-recommended.
00:02:50.460 They work with doctors to curate their products so that they won't irritate your skin.
00:02:55.900 So let's get started.
00:02:57.220 The first thing I do every night before I go to sleep is take off my makeup.
00:03:00.160 And I use the Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes Hydrating Edition from Neutrogena.
00:03:05.560 Their whole hydration line is my favorite thing ever.
00:03:08.680 I've never used a product from the hydration line that I haven't liked.
00:03:12.640 Not everything I have is from there, but I've tried a lot of those products, and I've really enjoyed them.
00:03:17.740 My skin, like I've said before, is combo skin.
00:03:21.140 So I get dryness, and I also get oiliness.
00:03:24.240 And it just kind of depends on which part of my face I'm talking about.
00:03:26.720 But what I've decided to do for my face for the most part is treat the dry parts, because those are the parts that I can use a cream that will help.
00:03:37.180 Whereas the oily parts, I'm not going to use like a mattifying primer before I go to sleep.
00:03:41.640 My makeup products can do it with the oily stuff, whereas my skincare products can help with the dryness.
00:03:48.280 So I use these hydrating wicks.
00:03:50.300 I really like them.
00:03:51.120 I will also use any eye makeup remover just to help with getting my makeup off around my eyes.
00:03:56.500 I usually use the ones that do have oil in them, because I find that the other ones are still not really going to do a great job at getting my mascara off.
00:04:03.420 And I really don't like going to sleep with mascara on, because it can irritate my eyes.
00:04:08.060 So that's my first thing.
00:04:10.060 So the next thing that I like to use is the Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel by Neutrogena.
00:04:15.260 And this is a really good cleansing gel, because it kind of just takes off any extra makeup that may be left on the skin.
00:04:21.780 And it doesn't irritate anything, and it keeps your skin kind of moist after you wash it.
00:04:27.200 Which, for me, with that combo skin, if I wash my face with the wrong thing, it'll feel tight afterward.
00:04:33.680 This doesn't do that, which I really love.
00:04:35.500 I use it in conjunction with this.
00:04:37.140 So this is that kind of knock-off Foreo that I was talking about.
00:04:40.980 It's a rubber, mechanical, electronic exfoliator.
00:04:46.200 And it has made the biggest difference.
00:04:48.080 I honestly started using this in conjunction with those topical creams that my doctor recommended.
00:04:53.720 And I'm not sure if it was the combination that actually helped.
00:04:56.640 I believe that it was, because I've used this ever since.
00:04:59.340 And it really just gets that cleanser into my skin, into my pores, and prevents breakouts.
00:05:04.940 So I highly, highly recommend getting one of these things.
00:05:08.300 They're really not expensive if you get them off Amazon.
00:05:11.080 The next thing I go in with are my two topical creams from my dermatologist.
00:05:15.120 So I can't recommend anything because I'm not a doctor.
00:05:18.160 But these are the things that work for me.
00:05:20.340 Your dermatologist can definitely help you figure out what's going to work best for your skin type.
00:05:24.320 So I use Dapzone and Adapalene.
00:05:28.780 And I use these in conjunction.
00:05:30.400 And I think Adapalene is now over the counter.
00:05:32.240 I just use a little bit of a higher percentage.
00:05:34.840 And I just put those over any acne spots that I might have.
00:05:38.260 When my skin was really bad, I used it all over my face.
00:05:41.380 Now I really don't have to do that.
00:05:42.860 I just have to spot treat.
00:05:44.280 And you always want to put your treatment products on before you put on your moisturizers.
00:05:49.980 So I put these on first.
00:05:51.180 The next thing I want to talk about is moisturizers.
00:05:53.560 So I have one for daytime and one for nighttime.
00:05:55.680 And they're the same brand.
00:05:57.220 They're the same kind of line.
00:05:59.840 So this is Neutrogena.
00:06:01.600 And this is Deep Moisture Day Cream.
00:06:03.560 And this is Deep Moisture Night Cream.
00:06:05.440 So the Deep Moisture Day Cream has a sunscreen of broad spectrum Spiff 20.
00:06:10.900 And I use this every morning.
00:06:12.620 And I think it really does wonders for my skin.
00:06:14.820 It also has sunscreen built into it, which is great.
00:06:17.760 And I can put that on about 10 minutes before I start doing my makeup.
00:06:21.600 And it feels like it's already settled into my skin, which is great.
00:06:24.700 This one at night is very thick.
00:06:27.060 It doesn't have any spiff.
00:06:28.180 But it is really just a thick moisturizer that doesn't leave you feeling greasy.
00:06:33.460 And I really like that.
00:06:34.300 And I don't feel like I have to worry about breakouts.
00:06:36.400 So that's awesome.
00:06:37.460 Last but not least, I use an eye cream every night.
00:06:39.920 This is one by Shea Moisture.
00:06:41.620 I don't know how I feel about this.
00:06:43.400 I do think that it's more affordable than a lot of the options you can find at the drugstore.
00:06:47.180 Although, I know that there are ones that you don't find at the drugstore that are even more expensive.
00:06:52.200 So, I found that this one was pretty inexpensive, which was nice.
00:06:56.620 And I use this every night.
00:06:57.960 It is, it's got this little metal piece at the top, which is cooling on the eyes.
00:07:02.780 Oh my gosh, I'm so hot.
00:07:03.660 Maybe I'll just like press this up right now.
00:07:07.060 And I think it might be helping just keep that area moisturized.
00:07:10.880 And as I'm getting a little bit older, I'm starting to feel a little bit more aware of these little lines around my eyes.
00:07:17.180 So, I'm going to try and keep my skin as moisturized around my eyes as possible.
00:07:23.080 Thank you guys so much for watching today.
00:07:25.000 I just, I think it's really important for me as somebody who went through really bad skin to talk about having bad skin and having acne.
00:07:33.160 And kind of what worked for me.
00:07:35.400 And that there's no shame in having had bad skin or having bad skin.
00:07:38.980 It's really hard and it's really frustrating.
00:07:41.420 And you can go outside without makeup.
00:07:43.520 And then there's also makeup for the days that you don't want to.
00:07:45.900 And it's really fun.
00:07:47.060 And it was what inspired me to learn how to do my makeup.
00:07:50.160 Which is kind of crazy to think about.
00:07:52.080 But I didn't know how to do makeup.
00:07:53.960 And then I started watching YouTube videos.
00:07:55.720 And that was how I learned how to do my own makeup.
00:07:58.400 And I was really inspired.
00:08:00.120 And, I mean, it all took off from there.
00:08:02.240 So, I mean, you can definitely see.
00:08:03.740 I still have some small scars on my face.
00:08:05.920 And, you know, they will fade with time.
00:08:08.240 So, if you're comfortable with your skin, go out in the world with your skin as it is.
