00:00:00.000 Hello, classic crew, and welcome to today's episode of The Scoop.
00:00:06.660 If you are new to my channel, The Scoop is our opportunity to chat,
00:00:10.940 act as if we're grabbing a cup of coffee together,
00:00:12.900 and just kind of go over what's been going on over the course of the week,
00:00:16.540 and just catch up.
00:00:18.180 So grab a cup of coffee, a cup of tea, some water,
00:00:21.320 whatever you have near you, and let's get into it.
00:00:24.000 So the first thing I wanted to talk about were these beautiful pearl earrings
00:00:28.260 that I absolutely adore,
00:00:30.660 and I'm so excited to share that this portion of today's video
00:00:33.680 is sponsored by The Pearl Source.
00:00:35.860 The Pearl Source sources the very finest cultured pearls
00:00:38.940 and turns them into one-of-a-kind designs,
00:00:41.200 minus the markup of conventional jewelry stores.
00:00:44.220 They come in all kinds, all colors, and all sizes,
00:00:47.620 and every piece is made in-house by their team of expert specialists.
00:00:52.220 They personally select every pearl that they sell,
00:00:55.040 and they grade, measure, and match, and string every single pearl by hand.
00:00:59.880 The process is so easy.
00:01:01.460 All you have to do is go onto their website,
00:01:03.720 find a design that you like,
00:01:04.960 and then customize it for you specifically,
00:01:07.760 or for somebody if you want to get them a gift.
00:01:09.900 They have great customer service,
00:01:11.220 so all you have to do is call,
00:01:12.760 and they can help you with the process.
00:01:14.600 Pearls are so classic and absolutely perfect for the holiday season.
00:01:18.320 I can't wait to wear these over the holidays.
00:01:20.620 They are just so stunning.
00:01:22.060 Pearls are something that I think every girl should have in her collection,
00:01:25.280 and pearls specifically are very valuable to me
00:01:27.560 because I wore them on my wedding day.
00:01:29.240 My mother had a set of pearls that my father bought for her,
00:01:32.060 and I wore those on my wedding day,
00:01:33.460 so now they have special meaning to me.
00:01:35.480 There are so many different options and styles on the Pearl Sources website,
00:01:39.100 and they are so well-priced.
00:01:40.980 You don't have to worry about a huge markup,
00:01:43.260 which is just fantastic.
00:01:44.840 So I really wanted to mention pearls in today's video
00:01:47.880 and talk about how much I love these.
00:01:49.540 I think they are so beautiful, so dainty.
00:01:52.360 They go with so many outfits,
00:01:54.120 and I just wanted to, again, thank the Pearl Source
00:01:56.320 for sponsoring this portion of today's video.
00:01:59.020 The next thing I wanted to talk about is that it's Thanksgiving this week.
00:02:02.580 I would love to hear from you guys
00:02:04.140 what you guys are doing for the holiday,
00:02:05.920 if you're able to spend it with family
00:02:07.480 or if you're going to be home
00:02:08.740 or if you're going to be spending it with friends.
00:02:10.820 However you're planning on celebrating,
00:02:12.700 I would love to hear what you guys are doing
00:02:14.380 because Thanksgiving is such a lovely holiday,
00:02:17.080 and this year has made it really painful for many of us
00:02:20.120 that we can't go home
00:02:21.280 or that we can't travel
00:02:22.740 or we can't see family.
00:02:24.240 Any of those things makes it really, really hard.
00:02:27.000 And so trying to find the joy in Thanksgiving,
00:02:28.760 even when you can't be with your family in person,
00:02:31.200 can be really tricky.
00:02:32.780 But some things that I've been thinking about
00:02:35.040 that one could do
00:02:36.400 if they wanted to make the holiday special,
00:02:38.580 even during the time of COVID,
00:02:40.500 definitely either buying a ready-made turkey
00:02:43.640 or making one at home
00:02:44.960 or doing something turkey-themed, right?
00:02:47.540 You don't necessarily have to eat turkey
00:02:49.300 if you don't like turkey,
00:02:50.640 but turkey is one of those
00:02:52.020 very quintessential Thanksgiving things.
00:02:54.900 I think stuffing is even more quintessential.
00:02:57.620 I love stuffing.
00:02:58.960 Stuffing is delicious.
00:03:00.000 It's really all about the foods, isn't it?
00:03:01.860 Thanksgiving and food are just inextricably linked
00:03:05.180 and you can't really separate the two.
00:03:07.420 And I love pie.
00:03:10.080 Now, not all of the pies.
00:03:11.500 Chocolate pecan pie.
00:03:13.160 Chocolate pecan pie is delicious.
00:03:14.900 I've talked about it on my channel before.
00:03:16.900 You gotta have that on Thanksgiving.
00:03:18.460 So I definitely recommend
00:03:20.000 having a chocolate pecan pie on Thanksgiving,
00:03:22.920 even if you're not gonna be with family
00:03:24.260 because it's so delicious.
00:03:26.600 It's so good.
00:03:27.580 And it will get you in the holiday spirit, of course.
00:03:30.940 And another thing I was thinking about
00:03:32.220 is one of the things that I love about Thanksgiving
00:03:33.780 is when everyone goes around
00:03:34.940 and says what they are grateful for.
00:03:36.500 But if you're not with anybody,
00:03:38.640 then I think another really lovely thing to do,
00:03:40.980 even if you are with people
00:03:42.220 and you just are, you have a few minutes alone,
00:03:45.080 is to sit down with a notebook
00:03:46.220 and really, really think about
00:03:48.100 what you've been grateful for this past year
00:03:50.400 and write those things down
00:03:52.240 and not just kind of come up with something spur-of-the-moment
00:03:54.540 in, you know, the conversation of a Thanksgiving meal,
00:03:57.140 but really take the time to figure out
00:03:59.500 what you were grateful for in 2020
00:04:02.040 because 2020 was such a hard year.
00:04:05.240 And I think that it's hard to find those things
00:04:07.740 that we appreciate when times are hard.
00:04:10.640 So taking the time and sitting down
00:04:13.040 and thinking about,
00:04:13.780 okay, what really was okay this year?
00:04:16.820 I mean, one of the things that I can be grateful for
00:04:18.800 is that I haven't gotten COVID.
00:04:20.520 How grateful am I about that
00:04:23.200 and that the people I love are healthy
00:04:25.000 and, you know, a bunch of different things.
00:04:27.360 So I would love to hear something
00:04:29.360 that you're grateful for in the comments
00:04:31.040 because it's Thanksgiving,
00:04:32.500 it's the perfect time to think about that kind of thing.
00:04:35.000 I would love to know what you guys are thinking too.
00:04:37.700 The next thing I wanted to talk about
00:04:39.080 are the books that I've been reading lately.
00:04:40.840 So I have been reading Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell.
00:04:44.900 You guys, this book is amazing.
00:04:48.940 It is so good.
00:04:49.820 I actually am reading it
00:04:51.040 and switching off between listening to the Audible
00:04:52.840 and also reading it.
00:04:54.720 It's so easy to read.
00:04:57.000 I looked at the book and I got really nervous
00:04:58.500 because it's very large
00:04:59.640 and I was thinking,
00:05:00.700 oh my gosh, a whole book on economics,
00:05:02.440 I'll never be able to work my way through that.
00:05:04.920 Thomas Sowell is such a good writer.
00:05:06.880 It's so easy to get through and to understand.
00:05:10.460 I really feel like I'm learning so much
00:05:12.880 and it's not something that's really that overwhelming.
00:05:16.040 I thought it was going to be way too thick,
00:05:18.020 way too hard to get through,
00:05:19.580 way too hard to understand, not at all.
00:05:21.760 He presents it in such a way
00:05:22.900 that really it's basic economics.
00:05:24.940 It's something that anyone could pick up and read
00:05:27.180 and he presents so many examples
00:05:29.340 that it really kind of encourages you
00:05:31.740 to remember the topics he's talking about
00:05:34.080 because he's not just kind of talking about it in the ether,
00:05:37.000 but he's actually giving you concrete examples
00:05:39.200 that you can hold on to.
00:05:40.620 This book is informing me in so many ways.
00:05:43.660 I knew a lot of this stuff
00:05:45.220 kind of just from living life and talking to people,
00:05:48.280 but Thomas Sowell's basic economics
00:05:49.820 is giving me an even firmer foundation on this stuff.
00:05:52.860 So if you're somebody who has felt overwhelmed
00:05:55.540 looking at the spine of basic economics
00:05:57.900 because it is pretty thick,
00:05:59.620 let me tell you from my experience,
00:06:01.200 it is not hard to read
00:06:02.840 and that is so cool
00:06:05.100 because it actually can encourage you
00:06:07.120 to educate yourself on this topic
00:06:08.880 because this is a book that really does give you an education.
00:06:12.160 So huge, huge fan of this book.
00:06:14.060 Can't wait to keep reading it.
00:06:15.240 I'm like actually excited about it
00:06:16.560 because I think that it is,
00:06:18.100 it's exciting to me to pick up an educational book
00:06:21.040 and not feel like I'm kind of slogging through a lesson
00:06:24.840 where it's something where I'm learning
00:06:26.840 and it feels easy
00:06:28.280 and I feel like I can really grasp it
00:06:30.220 and that's exactly how I've been feeling
00:06:32.080 which is awesome.
00:06:33.040 The other book that I have been reading lately
00:06:34.720 is Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind.
00:06:36.740 So I don't know if I've talked about this on my channel before.
00:06:39.000 I've been working through it kind of slowly
00:06:40.520 because again, I was taking it I think too seriously
00:06:43.920 in the sense that if I'm reading something
00:06:46.320 that is really kind of important to me,
00:06:49.000 I want to take a bunch of notes,
00:06:50.740 I want to make sure I remember everything,
00:06:52.640 but then it does get very slow
00:06:54.180 and I get bogged down
00:06:55.320 and then it's very hard for me to finish and complete it.
00:06:57.900 So I have been trying in the past maybe week or so
00:07:00.900 to say, okay, if I don't remember everything, it's okay.
00:07:03.280 I can always pick the book up again and look through it.
00:07:06.000 But I've been really thinking about a lot of things in that book.
00:07:09.480 Some of the things that Jonathan Haidt writes,
00:07:11.360 I'm not the biggest fan of the way he presents,
00:07:14.320 but I do think that the ideas are definitely there.
00:07:16.820 I'm planning on doing a video kind of inspired by this book
00:07:19.800 because I would like to do a video
00:07:21.920 on how to have a conversation with someone on the other side
00:07:23.980 and actually have an open conversation
00:07:26.000 where you can talk to them
00:07:28.580 and see if you can actually convince them
00:07:30.340 not from a place of you're a bad person,
00:07:32.560 but from I can engage with your ideas
00:07:34.420 and understand where you're coming from,
00:07:35.960 but here's another alternative viewpoint.
00:07:38.000 And I think that he is giving a pretty good description
00:07:41.360 in the book of kind of how to do that
00:07:42.860 and why we think the way that we do.
00:07:44.780 So if you're somebody who's interested in that kind of thing,
00:07:46.820 I think it's a good book to pick up,
00:07:48.160 but it is more written for maybe people on the left side of the aisle
00:07:52.080 to understand people on the right
00:07:53.460 and it's an interesting thing as someone on the right
00:07:55.740 who of course understands my own way of thinking
00:07:57.760 to read what he is writing
00:08:00.520 because it's kind of justifying our positions,
00:08:03.760 which is a little funny,
00:08:04.960 but it is interesting
00:08:05.820 and it kind of is giving me something to think about.
00:08:08.140 The last thing I wanted to talk about today,
00:08:10.380 and this is before the sunset
00:08:11.800 since I am using natural light today,
00:08:14.540 is The Crown.
00:08:16.380 I'm really curious who here watches The Crown,
00:08:18.980 has watched The Crown.
00:08:20.400 Leave it in the comments.
00:08:21.160 I'm just curious to know who else is watching it.
00:08:24.100 This season, not a huge fan.
00:08:27.420 Now, I like the stuff with Diana and Charles
00:08:29.900 because it's just kind of,
00:08:31.980 it's soap opera-y, like to be honest,
00:08:34.220 that's just mostly what it is,
00:08:35.440 but the stuff with Margaret Thatcher,
00:08:37.860 that has been not good.
00:08:41.920 Really, you can tell how biased they are,
00:08:44.480 how much of this they are kind of making up
00:08:47.160 to tell a narrative
00:08:48.500 in the way that they want to get it across.
00:08:51.060 They don't like Margaret Thatcher.
00:08:52.720 To be clear, they are not fans of Margaret Thatcher.
00:08:55.720 And what drives me crazy about the portrayal of her
00:08:59.500 in this show
00:09:00.880 is that facts are not always facts,
00:09:04.540 in the sense that they can present her position,
00:09:07.420 Margaret Thatcher's position.
00:09:08.520 And if it's presented out of context
00:09:11.060 and with no real explanation
00:09:13.860 for why she took those positions
00:09:16.060 and portrayed in a way
00:09:18.260 where she's just a cold-hearted person,
00:09:20.880 then it's not actually factual
00:09:22.880 because taking something out of context
00:09:25.000 actually devoids it of its meaning.
00:09:27.040 So, for example,
00:09:28.040 if she says,
00:09:29.180 I think people need to work for their money,
00:09:31.300 and The Crown presents it like,
00:09:33.120 wow, Margaret Thatcher is cold-hearted
00:09:35.020 and she doesn't care about poor people,
00:09:37.180 she doesn't want to help anyone,
00:09:38.660 which is how the show portrays it.
00:09:40.680 Margaret Thatcher wasn't a cold person,
00:09:42.960 but the way that they present it
00:09:44.500 doesn't give you room
00:09:46.160 to even understand what her position is.
00:09:48.840 It just makes her look like an evil person
00:09:51.480 with crazy positions.
00:09:53.320 Who could even believe
00:09:54.400 that someone would be this hateful
00:09:56.040 and just want everyone to suffer?
00:09:59.180 No, that's not the case.
00:10:01.520 So, I really encourage you,
00:10:03.840 because I had to do this myself,
00:10:05.620 I really encourage you to,
00:10:07.880 if you're watching a show like The Crown
00:10:09.900 or The Crown itself,
00:10:11.340 when you see a historical person
00:10:13.060 portrayed in a negative light,
00:10:14.640 take the time to really research
00:10:16.340 that person's kind of story
00:10:18.360 and their positions
00:10:19.720 outside of the context of the narrative of a show,
00:10:22.680 where they're trying to portray someone
00:10:23.940 in a certain light.
00:10:25.300 Because you may end up learning
00:10:26.580 exactly what I'm saying,
00:10:27.880 which is that they are portraying her
00:10:29.700 in a certain way
00:10:30.200 because they want to have the drama
00:10:32.200 set up in a certain way,
00:10:33.420 or because they just don't like her in real life,
00:10:35.740 and so they're not going to give you the whole story.
00:10:37.800 And that, to me,
00:10:38.620 has been to the detriment of the show,
00:10:40.260 because they are portraying
00:10:41.520 the Queen's positions
00:10:42.460 and Margaret Thatcher's positions
00:10:43.720 so one-dimensionally
00:10:45.640 that you really can't even trust
00:10:47.540 what they're saying.
00:10:48.360 Because it's like,
00:10:49.260 the Queen seems to be somebody
00:10:50.920 who cares about people
00:10:52.360 and just wants to help,
00:10:53.800 and Margaret Thatcher just seems like
00:10:55.100 a cold-hearted person
00:10:56.120 who doesn't want to help anyone
00:10:57.500 and just cares about the dollar bills.
00:11:00.760 Clearly, that's not the case.
00:11:02.460 Clearly, you don't elect a prime minister
00:11:04.240 into office that many times
00:11:06.300 just because she's cold-hearted
00:11:07.860 and only cares about the bottom line.
00:11:09.980 There's a reason people care about these things.
00:11:12.540 Look it up for yourself.
00:11:13.720 I'm not going to go into
00:11:14.560 the whole economic reasoning
00:11:15.840 and understanding of Margaret Thatcher's positions
00:11:17.860 because it's its own thing.
00:11:20.200 Thatcherism is actually its own thing.
00:11:21.700 But I don't want to kind of take up time
00:11:23.800 in the scoop today to talk about that.
00:11:25.400 But I did want to mention it.
00:11:26.780 I encourage you to go up
00:11:27.800 and research it yourself.
00:11:29.180 Well, that's it for today's episode of The Scoop.
00:11:32.140 I hope you guys enjoyed it.
00:11:33.620 Please leave comments down below.
00:11:35.120 I love reading what you guys have been up to
00:11:36.600 and also just kind of your thoughts
00:11:38.300 on everything I'm talking about.
00:11:39.620 It's a ton of fun
00:11:40.760 to kind of have this opportunity each week
00:11:42.420 to chat with you all.
