In our third sermon in the series, "The Revelation of Salvation," Pastor Ken continues our exploration of Peter's first encounter with God's Word. In this sermon, we see that God's salvation is not accidental, not fragile, but ancient and ancient-looking, and that it is the salvation that the prophets themselves long to see.

00:00:00.000 Well, amen, and praise God for his worship, for the things that we've sung and said, and
00:00:10.500 the doctrine that we've professed together.
00:00:14.460 What a wonderful thing it is to worship Almighty God together this morning.
00:00:21.440 This morning, our sermon's title is titled, The Revelation of Salvation.
00:00:28.400 the revelation of salvation now if you haven't been with us for our previous two sermons there's
00:00:35.680 a lot of space in between them i preach once a month so between the two sermons there's a large
00:00:41.240 gap so i want to remind us of some of the things we've covered so far in our first sermon on first
00:00:49.020 Peter, we saw that the hope that we have in this life is anchored in the triune God alone.
00:00:58.080 We saw that we were chosen by the Father, that we've been sanctified by the Spirit,
00:01:03.940 and that we've been sprinkled clean by the blood of the Son. Our hope is rooted in the Trinity.
00:01:11.200 In our last sermon in 1 Peter, Peter taught us that we are to suffer with joy.
00:01:21.480 That there's a joy in suffering for the name of Christ.
00:01:25.360 He shows us that trials are not enemies sent from God to destroy us,
00:01:30.620 but tools in the hands of the Father to refine us.
00:01:36.360 Hope in the Trinity, joy through trials,
00:01:39.260 These are the deep roots of the Christian life.
00:01:43.740 These are foundations and pillars upon which all of us are called to build.
00:01:49.860 This morning, Peter turns our eyes to something even more astounding.
00:01:56.920 The revelation of salvation itself.
00:02:00.220 he invites us to step back and see the long sovereign sweep of god's mighty hand over time
00:02:09.940 he shows us prophets that are straining forward to look into this salvation angels looking into
00:02:18.860 this salvation and how we as the church today possess this wonderful and great gift
00:02:28.340 peter wants the suffering church to see that their salvation is not small
00:02:35.440 it's not accidental and it's not fragile it's ancient it's spirit rot it's christ secured
00:02:45.700 it's the very salvation that the prophets themselves long to see and all the host of
00:02:54.080 heaven is straining to look into. Today, when we come to these three verses,
00:03:01.820 we need to stand in awe of what we see here.
00:03:08.220 If Peter's right, then your salvation is bigger than you know. If the words of Peter are true,
00:03:15.180 then your salvation is bigger than you could possibly imagine.
00:03:18.980 you belong to a story that god has been writing since the beginning
00:03:25.480 peter wants you to see that how the prophets searched for this great story how christ fulfilled
00:03:33.960 it how the angels marvel at it so that you might live with courage clarity and unmistakable peace
00:03:44.720 This church is the revelation of salvation.
00:03:49.920 So if you're not already there, please turn in your Bibles to 1 Peter 1, verses 10-12.
00:04:00.880 We'll be taking them verse by verse.
00:04:04.180 I'll give you a moment to get there.
00:04:08.980 1 Peter 1, verses 10-12.
00:04:13.720 It says, beginning in verse 10,
00:04:19.940 Concerning this salvation,
00:04:22.500 the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours
00:04:26.180 searched and inquired carefully.
00:04:31.300 The first question we need to ask when we come to a passage like this
00:04:35.280 is concerning what salvation?
00:04:39.540 What is the salvation that these prophets searched?
00:04:43.720 It's the very salvation that Peter has been unfolding throughout all of this passage.
00:04:49.480 It's the salvation that comes by faith alone.
00:04:53.480 The salvation that sustains a suffering church.
00:04:57.780 The salvation that secures every benefit that is Christ for the believer.
00:05:05.180 This is the salvation that is promised and preserved for the people of God.
00:05:10.420 And Peter tells us that this is the salvation that the prophets searched so diligently for.
00:05:19.440 They bent their minds and their prayers and their lives towards understanding the grace that is now revealed to you.
00:05:29.120 This is the salvation that we're concerned about this morning.
00:05:34.300 The next question we need answered is, who is a prophet?
00:05:40.420 A prophet is one who interprets the oracles or hidden things of God.
00:05:47.700 It's one who's been moved by the Spirit to speak.
00:05:52.560 He's a man that's seized by the Holy Spirit, carried along, as Peter says,
00:05:58.460 so that the very breath of God fills his lungs and his mouth.
00:06:02.100 These were men who were uniquely summoned to unveil mysteries that Israel could not see on her own.
00:06:13.220 Think of Isaiah, lifting his eyes to the Holy One.
00:06:18.420 Samuel, hearing his name in the stillness of the night.
00:06:23.220 Jeremiah, weeping with the tears of God.
00:06:26.800 Ezekiel, caught up in visions of glory.
00:06:30.480 Daniel reading kingdoms as easily as we read books.
00:06:35.120 Jonah fleeing the call only to find mercy chasing after him.
00:06:40.040 Nehemiah rebuilding walls and hearts.
00:06:43.500 Joel heralding the day that the spirit would be poured out on all flesh.
00:06:49.760 These were the men that were set apart.
00:06:53.100 Chosen to reveal the word of God in their own appointed hour.
00:07:00.320 That is a prophet.
00:07:02.380 A prophet who speaks hidden things.
00:07:06.220 But this kind of prophetic ministry,
00:07:08.860 one in which you are revealing fresh knowledge,
00:07:11.900 has run its course in our time.
00:07:16.020 This is something the church desperately needs to recognize.
00:07:19.260 We live in America where Pentecostalism and Charismania is everywhere.
00:07:25.520 Everyone thinks that they have a new word, a new revelation.
00:07:29.500 A new thing from God.
00:07:33.420 According to the scripture, that ministry has run its end.
00:07:39.820 Hebrews 1, 1-2 says,
00:07:42.680 God, who in many times and in many ways spoke to the fathers by the prophets,
00:07:48.480 has in these last days spoken to us by his Son.
00:07:52.780 once the son has spoken once the apostles have borne witness to his testimony and the scriptures
00:08:04.280 were inscripturated it's a good word inscripturated the need for new revelation ceased
00:08:12.140 god has not fallen silent in our day don't mistake that he's just finished the sentence
00:08:20.180 there's nothing else for him to reveal
00:08:23.560 the hidden things have been revealed
00:08:25.360 we have Christ
00:08:27.320 yet the remnants of this prophetic office
00:08:33.240 remain
00:08:35.560 and those who are called to preach and teach 0.65
00:08:39.160 in the church
00:08:39.940 a pastor does not utter new oracles from God
00:08:45.220 but he does stand in this ancient line
00:08:49.800 bearing a derivative mantle.
00:08:53.020 He does not reveal mysteries,
00:08:54.680 but he unfolds the mysteries that are already revealed.
00:08:59.080 He does not add to Scripture.
00:09:01.120 He opens Scripture.
00:09:05.080 And in this way, the prophetic ministry continues.
00:09:10.000 It's transfigured, completed,
00:09:13.360 and now entrusted to those who with the same spirit
00:09:16.600 proclaim not a new word,
00:09:18.520 but the once-for-all word entrusted to the church.
00:09:26.760 Why does this matter for us?
00:09:29.440 Why does this matter for you?
00:09:32.700 It matters because Peter tells us
00:09:35.080 that the prophets searched and inquired about these things diligently.
00:09:41.140 These things are the grace that you now stand in,
00:09:45.140 that the prophets have revealed,
00:09:47.320 that the apostles have revealed, that pastors now preach these things you now possess.
00:09:56.660 These men strained their eyes towards a Christ that they would never see in the flesh.
00:10:02.980 And yet they sought him with all of their might and with all of their soul
00:10:07.420 and with all of their prayers. They sought Christ.
00:10:10.240 Meanwhile, many Christians today tend to grow lazy in our searching for Christ. 0.88
00:10:20.020 And then we wonder why our lives fall into chaos and disorder.
00:10:25.880 We forget the words of Jesus in Matthew 6, 33.
00:10:30.140 Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
00:10:35.640 we neglect the God who promises that if you seek me and find me you will seek me with all of your
00:10:44.540 heart some even imagine that their faith would be easier if they lived in the time of Christ
00:10:52.160 this is not true this is not true for the believer for Jesus said himself that it was better that he
00:11:01.580 go away so that we might have the Holy Spirit
00:11:05.440 and He will lead us into all truth.
00:11:10.460 Our age is the
00:11:13.560 greatest age to be a believer in.
00:11:17.260 Not the weakest. We possess
00:11:21.560 the Spirit of God. We possess the
00:11:25.460 completed revelation of God. We possess the Gospel in all of
00:11:29.540 its bright glory. The prophets searched carefully for these things because they saw them only
00:11:37.320 in a shadow. How much more should we then, who are easily distracted by the cares of
00:11:44.300 this life, seek the Lord with all diligence? If the prophets bent their lives towards a
00:11:53.420 glimpse of this truth? How much more should we, who can behold this with unveiled lenses,
00:12:03.240 run hard after the God who has revealed himself to us? There's a sober warning here.
00:12:11.960 I don't want to spend too much time on this warning because this is an encouraging passage,
00:12:17.240 But there is a warning here.
00:12:20.660 Luke 13, 24-27 speaks about a group of people who failed in their duty to seek after Christ.
00:12:30.480 It says,
00:12:32.660 Strive to enter through the narrow gate.
00:12:36.240 For many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
00:12:41.780 When once the master of the house has risen up and shut the door,
00:12:45.160 you will begin to stand outside and knock.
00:12:48.420 He will answer and say to you,
00:12:50.840 I don't know you.
00:12:52.660 Where are you from?
00:12:57.360 It's a sobering warning.
00:13:01.000 The bishop, J.C. Ryle, in his book, Practical Religion,
00:13:05.600 writes words that tremble with this wonderful truth.
00:13:11.080 He says, quote,
00:13:12.320 Knowledge shall come to many too late.
00:13:16.540 They shall see at last the value of an immortal soul
00:13:19.720 and the happiness of having it saved.
00:13:23.600 They shall see at last the value, or sorry,
00:13:26.500 they shall understand at last their own sinfulness and God's holiness
00:13:29.900 and the glorious fitness of the gospel of Christ.
00:13:33.680 They shall comprehend at last why ministers seem so anxious
00:13:37.560 and preached so long and entreated them so earnestly
00:13:41.660 to be converted.
00:13:43.920 But alas, they shall know all this too late.
00:13:49.920 End quote.
00:13:53.180 This is the warning.
00:13:56.440 You are called to seek just as diligently
00:13:59.020 as the prophets of old did.
00:14:01.820 And if we fail in our seeking,
00:14:04.300 we might be found as those who are knocking on the door
00:14:07.040 too late, too slow.
00:14:11.660 We waited too long to seek Christ.
00:14:17.320 We have a duty in our time to seek the Lord while he may be found.
00:14:23.300 Do not neglect the time to seek the Lord.
00:14:28.780 You should be seeking him in the scriptures, in prayer, in your day-to-day lives.
00:14:37.060 You should be seeking him in every moment of every day.
00:14:41.660 We are called to love him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
00:14:47.820 And yet how often does he fill your thoughts?
00:14:53.160 How often have you spent hours searching him?
00:14:58.500 Yet we find time to watch movies, read books, sleep too long.
00:15:05.040 Seek the Lord while he may be found.
00:15:17.760 Verse 11.
00:15:22.340 It says,
00:15:24.580 Inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating
00:15:29.640 when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and subsequent glories.
00:15:35.040 This verse, at first glance, might not seem like much, but it is an absolute treasure chest.
00:15:43.700 It is wonderful doctrine.
00:15:47.440 It's gold laying right before you.
00:15:50.880 Peter lifts up the curtain, and he shows us what's happening behind the scenes of the Old Testament.
00:15:57.720 The prophets were not writing political commentary or just spiritual knowledge.
00:16:08.500 They were leaning forward and straining to see the Christ who would come.
00:16:14.500 And Peter tells us that it was the spirit of Christ himself who was revealing these things to them.
00:16:22.080 So, let me draw out some of these theological concepts, because they're really good here.
00:16:31.060 First, it was Christ's own spirit that was revealing to the prophets what was to come.
00:16:40.600 The one who fulfilled the prophecies is the very one who first gave those prophecies.
00:16:47.940 Christ did not begin at Bethlehem.
00:16:52.080 He did not begin at his birth.
00:16:56.180 He existed long before this.
00:17:01.400 He spoke a word long before he ever came in the flesh.
00:17:07.420 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
00:17:13.980 So I don't knock this off there.
00:17:15.260 when isaiah saw the lord high and lifted up john in his gospel tells us that he saw christ
00:17:24.280 in his glory even abraham rejoiced to see my day and he saw it and was glad
00:17:33.760 the prophets of old were looking to jesus christ because christ himself was revealing
00:17:40.680 to them what he would do.
00:17:44.260 From Genesis to Revelation, Christ is not simply the fulfillment
00:17:48.600 of prophecy, he is the author of it.
00:17:53.740 This is why on the road to Emmaus,
00:17:56.400 Jesus could open up the scriptures
00:18:00.220 and show all the things concerning himself.
00:18:05.780 He knew them so well because he wrote them.
00:18:10.680 He himself had spoken them by his spirit.
00:18:15.840 This matters to us, church.
00:18:19.040 It matters because Christ is both the author and fulfillment of prophecy.
00:18:25.100 If he is the author and fulfillment of prophecy,
00:18:27.960 then your faith does not rest on shifting sand.
00:18:33.280 It rests on one who has planned this redemption since the beginning.
00:18:37.720 Right now, as a church, we're going through Genesis, speaking about the beginnings of mankind.
00:18:45.620 Since that very beginning, God had this plan in place.
00:18:52.380 This is not plan B.
00:18:55.840 Christ coming in the flesh, dying on the cross, rising from the grave for your redemption was not plan B.
00:19:03.540 It was plan A.
00:19:04.420 It was always his intention, always his will, always his desire to see a church fulfilled or redeemed and fulfilled through his son.
00:19:17.820 This is not happenstance.
00:19:20.340 This is not random.
00:19:23.000 We're not grasping at straws.
00:19:25.220 We're looking at one divine author through and through.
00:19:31.700 He did not make a mistake.
00:19:34.420 When Adam ate from the tree, he did not make a mistake.
00:19:40.640 God had a plan and a purpose and a desire to see his people saved.
00:19:49.540 This gives us great comfort.
00:19:53.440 Second, if the first truth spoke about and reveals who is coming,
00:20:00.700 Then the second reveals what the prophets were trying to understand.
00:20:06.740 They were looking at who was coming.
00:20:10.000 Now they're looking for what is he to do.
00:20:14.020 Peter shows us that their ministry was a holy searching.
00:20:18.560 An earnest longing to know who the Messiah is and when he would come.
00:20:23.700 They saw the outlines.
00:20:26.400 We see the portrait.
00:20:27.460 They held promises. We hold fulfillment.
00:20:34.880 These men were looking at things that they could only see dimly.
00:20:38.900 We see them clearly.
00:20:41.300 They were looking ahead.
00:20:43.960 We are looking behind.
00:20:47.540 The prophets searched the scriptures for a person.
00:20:51.900 Their longing was personal.
00:20:53.760 Who is this Redeemer?
00:20:57.460 How will he save?
00:21:00.580 What will he suffer?
00:21:03.600 These were their questions.
00:21:06.800 And now, church, we search the same scriptures to behold the one who has come.
00:21:12.980 They looked forward.
00:21:14.740 We looked behind.
00:21:16.840 We have clarity.
00:21:19.820 Where they had confusion.
00:21:21.320 It was the theologian B.B. Warfield that said,
00:21:25.040 The Old Testament is like a room with all this furniture, but it's dimly lit.
00:21:32.800 The New Testament is that same room, just lit up.
00:21:39.780 In the Old Testament, they were anticipating what is to come.
00:21:45.720 Ours is recognizing what has come.
00:21:49.660 As Jesus said,
00:21:51.000 Many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see and did not see it.
00:22:01.440 If they gave their lives before Christ ever arrived and understanding him and his ministry,
00:22:07.780 how much more should we give ourselves to knowing him that has been revealed?
00:22:15.160 We do not search for rumors of a Savior. We search for the Savior himself.
00:22:21.000 Point number three
00:22:25.320 Peter draws our eyes to the pattern that the Spirit has revealed in the Scriptures
00:22:31.800 He shows us the path that Christ walked
00:22:35.940 He shows us how he was to fulfill these prophecies
00:22:40.480 That pattern is suffering and then glory
00:22:45.340 That's the pattern
00:22:47.540 it says in Luke 24 26 was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things
00:22:56.120 and then enter his glory
00:22:58.020 the prophets saw him coming they saw a bruised reed in Genesis 3 15 a spotless lamb in Exodus 12 5
00:23:13.500 A rejected stone in Psalm 118, verse 22.
00:23:17.860 A betrayed friend in Psalm 41, verse 9.
00:23:21.820 A mocked king in Psalm 22, verses 7 through 8.
00:23:26.580 Pierced hands and feet in Psalm 22, verse 16.
00:23:31.500 Gaul for his thirst in Psalm 69, verse 21.
00:23:35.440 A silent lamb in Isaiah 53, verse 7.
00:23:39.040 A wounded servant in Isaiah 53, verse 5.
00:23:42.040 A marred Messiah in Isaiah 52, verse 14.
00:23:46.180 A struck shepherd in Zechariah 13, 7.
00:23:49.700 The one they pierced, Zechariah 12, 10.
00:23:53.720 A righteous one cut off, Daniel 9, 26.
00:23:59.180 The prophets saw him coming.
00:24:03.680 But they also saw his glory.
00:24:08.940 Psalm 16, 10 reveals a holy one.
00:24:12.040 who would not rot.
00:24:15.840 Psalm 2-7 reveals a risen Son declared as Lord over all.
00:24:24.340 Psalm 110, verse 1.
00:24:26.860 Psalm 110 is one of the most commonly quoted passages of Scripture in the New Testament.
00:24:32.440 It reveals a king seated at God's right hand.
00:24:36.340 Isaiah 9-7 reveals a child whose kingdom will never end.
00:24:43.100 Daniel 7-13-14 reveals the Son of Man receiving all dominion and glory.
00:24:52.380 Do you see how they saw these shadows?
00:24:56.340 They were looking for someone.
00:24:59.540 They were looking for a specific person in the scriptures.
00:25:03.100 the spirit showed them all these things and they were looking through these shadows
00:25:09.680 but you christian have the name of that person
00:25:14.620 his name is jesus you're named after him christian means little christ
00:25:24.280 he has branded you with his very own name and called you his own we see the substance of all
00:25:33.080 All of these promises, the fulfillment of everything that they were waiting for.
00:25:41.960 We see the glory of the Lord, the fulfillment of these prophecies, the redemption of our souls.
00:25:52.080 So church, lift up your heads and look at your Savior.
00:25:58.300 If this is your Savior, then you have no reason at all to bow beneath fear.
00:26:10.020 What does fear have to do with you?
00:26:14.400 You have a Savior that has suffered all.
00:26:18.080 That has borne every heartache and every trial and every sin on your behalf.
00:26:22.740 And has been glorified for you.
00:26:24.980 And promises a redemption and a resurrection.
00:26:28.300 and a glorification of you.
00:26:32.660 What in this life do you have to fear?
00:26:39.520 The one who once wore the crown of thorns
00:26:42.060 now wears the crown of heaven.
00:26:47.500 His sovereign hands have carried every prophecy
00:26:50.560 to their completion.
00:26:52.800 You don't think he'll carry you to your completion?
00:26:58.980 This is not cold doctrine.
00:27:02.060 This has a heartbeat.
00:27:05.980 This is fuel for your endurance.
00:27:09.540 It means that your life will not be ruled by chaos.
00:27:12.900 It will be ruled by the Lord Jesus Christ.
00:27:16.200 It means that no sorrow can overturn your peace.
00:27:20.920 If every shadow of the promises were traced through the Old Testament,
00:27:25.380 Now stand in full light in him.
00:27:28.060 You have no reason to doubt.
00:27:33.980 The king who fulfilled every word concerning his own sufferings
00:27:38.400 will fulfill every word concerning your salvation.
00:27:50.040 Lastly, verse 12.
00:27:55.380 it was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you and the things that have
00:28:04.640 now been announced to you through those who preach the good news to you by the holy spirit
00:28:09.500 sent from heaven things into which angels long to look i feel like there could have been a couple
00:28:17.360 more yous in there when i was breaking up this passage and highlighting the things i wanted to
00:28:24.420 touch on. You know how many times I underlined and circled you? When you go through a passage
00:28:30.560 of scripture, you should do the same. It tells you where this is directed. This passage of
00:28:38.240 scripture is directed precisely at the church. Peter is revealing a breathtaking truth in
00:28:46.320 this passage. He's saying that it was shown to the prophets from the past that what they
00:28:53.520 were searching and writing and looking into wasn't for them. It was for you.
00:29:02.560 The prophets knew that this was not something they would benefit from in their time.
00:29:09.380 It was something that they were looking ahead to, not just to the fulfillment of the promises,
00:29:14.820 but to the people who would receive the fulfillment of those promises.
00:29:18.020 They lived and wrote with a forward-facing faith,
00:29:24.280 laboring for a generation that they would never meet.
00:29:30.060 As Calvin so wisely put it,
00:29:33.280 quote,
00:29:34.480 the spiritual kingdom is a higher subject than the human mind can succeed in investigating,
00:29:40.980 except the spirit be the guide, end quote.
00:29:44.240 And guided by that very Spirit, the prophets gladly took up their work.
00:29:52.240 They took up a harvest that they would never taste.
00:29:56.800 They knew that the Spirit was revealing events, preparing for a people yet unborn.
00:30:03.960 Peter tells us that angels who enjoy heaven itself
00:30:12.840 still burn with holy desire to gaze into God's unfolding plan of redemption.
00:30:20.040 Can you imagine that?
00:30:22.300 An angel in heaven beholding the glory of the Lord,
00:30:25.740 looking over the stoop of heaven to see what God is doing down here.
00:30:31.840 Amazing.
00:30:33.960 If angels long to see this, how much more should the church rejoice
00:30:41.040 in what has now been announced to us by the Holy Spirit through the preaching of the gospel?
00:30:48.420 The prophets wrote for the future.
00:30:51.380 The angels marvel at the present, and we, standing in the full light of Christ,
00:30:56.260 are called to carry this kingdom forward to those yet unborn and bless them with it.
00:31:03.960 This is deeply post-millennial.
00:31:08.020 There's a post-millennial flavor to all of this.
00:31:11.660 A desire to see the generations beyond us blessed with this knowledge, with this truth.
00:31:20.020 I wish so deeply that I didn't have to help plant this church.
00:31:26.860 That we could have all been a part of a church that had been long-standing, faithful, bold, and zealous for Christ in our time.
00:31:36.560 There were none, so we planted.
00:31:40.720 I wish we didn't have to start a school.
00:31:44.300 I wish that there was already a long-standing institution with years and years and years under their belt of faithful preaching of the word.
00:31:53.720 of raising up generations to come.
00:31:57.020 I wish that we did not have to do these things.
00:32:00.500 But we do.
00:32:02.620 And the reason we do is because those that came before us
00:32:06.060 did not think this way.
00:32:09.740 They did not think with forward-facing faith.
00:32:14.600 They did not think about those who would come after them,
00:32:18.520 about those who would inherit the things
00:32:20.780 that they labored for in their time.
00:32:24.440 We, as God's church today, cannot make the same mistakes.
00:32:30.280 We must think of those who will come after,
00:32:34.940 of the health of our institutions, of our families, of our communities, of our nation,
00:32:40.460 because it's not just affecting us.
00:32:43.960 It affects all those who come after us.
00:32:49.460 It would be hatred of our generations.
00:32:54.100 Not to seek to redeem our time.
00:32:58.040 To put forth seeds in the ground for harvest that we will never taste.
00:33:07.720 We should think this way.
00:33:11.140 We should think about Oxford that was built hundreds and hundreds of years ago
00:33:17.100 with blueprints left in the basement for when the beams rot.
00:33:23.720 That they were told to cut down trees that were planted at the founding of Oxford
00:33:28.300 so that when the beams finally do rot, they can have trees to repair them.
00:33:33.880 They didn't think Oxford would be gone in their lifetime, or even in their children's lifetime.
00:33:40.080 They knew it would withstand the test of time and be there long enough to have trees rot.
00:33:48.720 Church, recover this mindset.
00:33:51.180 Recover the mindset when you build your house
00:33:55.540 This isn't just for you
00:33:58.120 This is for your generations
00:34:01.080 Recover this mindset when you go to church on Sunday
00:34:06.820 I don't want this church just to be successful for me
00:34:10.880 I want it to be successful for my children
00:34:13.800 And their children
00:34:15.680 And their children
00:34:17.240 I want to have a church graveyard where I can be buried in the back
00:34:22.740 and my children can be buried in the back.
00:34:25.620 All of us laboring to see the kingdom of God.
00:34:31.680 Recover this mindset when you pick your careers.
00:34:37.340 When you do your daily work.
00:34:40.440 When you raise your children.
00:34:42.980 When you educate them.
00:34:44.680 When you pick curriculum.
00:34:47.240 Recover this mindset.
00:34:52.180 In conclusion,
00:34:57.960 when we step back and look at the full sweep of this passage of Scripture,
00:35:02.860 the picture is honestly breathtaking.
00:35:07.920 The prophets who searched for this salvation with a holy longing,
00:35:13.420 straining to see a Christ that they would never see in their time,
00:35:18.240 Christ himself then stepped into history, walking the very road that he revealed in times past,
00:35:25.480 suffered and then was glorified, fulfilling every shadow and every promise about him.
00:35:32.020 And now, in these last days, the veil has been lifted,
00:35:37.800 the mystery has been revealed,
00:35:39.780 and the grace that they long to see has been placed into your hands.
00:35:47.240 The salvation they searched for, the Messiah they foretold of, the glories they glimpsed from afar, this is the grace that you now stand in.
00:35:59.340 So let this settle deeply within your bones.
00:36:04.460 You are living in the brightest age of redemptive history.
00:36:10.620 You are.
00:36:11.620 you're living in the age that the prophets pointed to the angels marvel at and christ is
00:36:22.560 accomplishing so do not live as though you are in the dark do not fear as though the story were
00:36:31.740 uncertain do not doubt as though god has left you to fend for yourself the god who wrote the
00:36:39.800 promises, the God who fulfilled the promises, the God who announces the promises, is the God
00:36:45.360 who holds you fast today. Let this truth drive out your fear, shatter your doubt, and flood your soul
00:36:53.680 with unshakable peace. For if the prophets search for this, if Christ suffered to secure it, and if
00:37:01.920 the angels long to look into it, then you may walk forward with confidence, knowing that you were no
00:37:09.360 accident. Your life is no tragedy. Your future is not a question mark. The same Spirit who
00:37:19.480 spoke through the prophets, who raised Christ from the dead, and who awakened you to this
00:37:25.760 grace, will carry you, ultimately, home. Amen? Let's pray.
00:37:33.520 Father in heaven, God of gods, redeemer and lover of our souls.
00:37:44.140 Lord, we know that you're the one that has promised great and marvelous things in your word.
00:37:52.600 You have revealed such great truths to us this morning.
00:37:57.040 That this plan of redemption was revealed in times past.
00:38:01.420 That it was no accident.
00:38:04.500 That you've had a plan and a purpose for us since the beginning.
00:38:10.880 That there is no plan B.
00:38:14.440 But that redeeming us through your Son was always your desire.
00:38:22.660 God, help your church this morning to live out these truths with boldness and confidence.
00:38:29.680 Knowing that their lives are not accidental.
00:38:34.000 That they're not circumstantial.
00:38:37.340 That they have eternal purpose.
00:38:41.280 That we have a sure promise from you.
00:38:45.020 That we will be with you forever. 0.90
00:38:48.320 That our faith is not dumb.
00:38:53.820 That our hope will not be squashed.
00:38:58.680 That one day our faith will be made sight.
00:39:04.520 God, keep your church pure, preserved for that day,
00:39:09.860 looking ahead to Christ, who is the author and finisher of our faith.
00:39:15.680 God, we love you, and we thank you for revealing to us this salvation.
00:39:21.620 In Jesus' name, amen.
