00:00:00.000 well i think today by god's grace we are going to finish this series we've been working through it
00:00:10.440 for a few months now and uh what a blessing it has been to me and i hope it has been to you as
00:00:18.540 well it's been a difficult text or difficult section of scripture now we started genesis
00:00:23.160 i believe in november of last year and we've worked our way through slowly
00:00:27.260 and we're finally here at Genesis chapter 11. 9, 10, and 11 are key texts to understanding
00:00:34.920 the ordering of humanity, which obviously is a very important topic for today's generation.
00:00:43.560 Now, so far we've covered the curse of Ham, which we saw in Genesis chapter 9, which I spent a few
00:00:49.660 sermons going through. We've covered also how God preserves, yet redeems, our distinctions. So
00:00:57.540 we know the gospel doesn't erase distinctions, but it actually sanctifies and preserves those
00:01:03.360 distinctions. We saw that in the Table of Nations, in which God gave us the organization of the
00:01:10.260 Table of Nations in chapter 10. And today we turn to the Tower of Babel and the evil behind the 0.88
00:01:17.420 efforts of globalism. And so we're going to see the contrast between globalism and nationalism.
00:01:24.580 Now, because this entire series has been quite delicate for not only you, but for the people
00:01:29.900 that are listening online, it's been a delicate series. I wanted to help clarify some labels.
00:01:37.760 I think they're helpful. Labels help give some boundaries and distinctions about what I am saying
00:01:42.640 and what I'm not saying as we have gone through this series. And so the positions of the last
00:01:48.680 several sermons, what we've been talking about as it pertains to race, is a position called race
00:01:54.680 realism. So if you looked up the term, there are some, there are a few definitions, and it's a bit
00:02:00.580 of a fluid term, but that is the position that I believe scripture supports. And by that, it means
00:02:07.340 that race is not a social construct or some modern invention, that it's actually a feature
00:02:14.540 of God's providential ordering of the world, that God actually, through his providence, created
00:02:20.580 races from the sons of Noah. So the three races of the sons of Noah. It's part of the taxonomy
00:02:27.620 of humanity. In other words, I don't believe that God created humanity as a mass of interchangeable
00:02:35.380 individuals, that we're all the same, and it's just different melanin levels in our skin. Okay, that is
00:02:42.000 the argument that the world often uses, and even in the church. You know, there is a taxonomy that
00:02:47.840 God has put together, an order among civilizational stations that we see, all for his purposes and all
00:02:55.600 for his glory, and I think it's very easy to defend that from scripture and from history. I'm also
00:03:02.500 want to have another term to say that I'm clear, to be clear on, is that I'm not what is called a
00:03:07.760 race determinist. Now, a race determinist argues that racial groups are permanently locked
00:03:13.640 in fixed capacities, right? There are fixed outcomes. There are fixed civilizational
00:03:19.860 possibilities. There's no meaningful capacity for transformation at all. That's a position
00:03:27.200 called race determinism. And I reject that because I believe that all people can be transformed
00:03:34.080 through conversion to Christianity and through the generational outworking in that particular
00:03:40.140 civilization by the work of the gospel. Now, the gospel does not erase distinctions. We know that,
00:03:46.660 right? Just because, you know, though it says, though you are male, nor male, nor female,
00:03:51.220 it's not talking about, oh, now we just don't have sex anymore. No, it's talking about that
00:03:56.180 there is no distinction that'll keep you from coming into the kingdom of God. No distinction
00:04:02.240 that'll allow that. But these stations that the Lord has given us, God sanctifies us within those
00:04:11.040 particular stations. And so I believe, as we talked about the curse of Ham or the Hamitic people or 0.98
00:04:16.500 the African people or whatever it may be, however you want to use that term, I do believe that that 0.96
00:04:22.080 group of people will generally have a subordinate civilizational station that's ongoing. And what I
00:04:31.060 mean by that is that it's been like that for 4,500 years. So it shouldn't be shocking to say,
00:04:35.980 well, maybe that'll continue. It's been that way for 4,500 years. I believe it will continue.
00:04:42.100 That doesn't mean that I don't believe that there could be progress through the evangelization and
00:04:48.220 the Christianization of Africa, of the Hamitic peoples, and I believe that we'll see that. 0.99
00:04:54.180 I don't think there's a ceiling for any group of people, and that's to be clear. The Japhethites, 1.00
00:05:00.220 the Hamites, the Shemites, I don't believe there's a ceiling. In fact, when Christ comes in 0.91
00:05:05.300 and sanctifies those people, I believe they can grow in sanctification, but I do believe stations
00:05:11.140 will still exist as that growth occurs. And ultimately, I don't believe that the gospel
00:05:17.420 eliminates temporal or civilizational blessings or curses. And I think this is important because
00:05:23.580 there's some arguments out there that you go, well, hey, the curse of Ham and the civilizational
00:05:28.080 distinctions, those are all gone in the gospel, right? Those have been just disappearing since
00:05:33.280 Christ came. Well, no, I think just to give you one example without offering a massive argument here
00:05:38.680 is that christian women still experience the pain of childbirth that's part of the curse the fall of
00:05:46.440 the curse of the fall and we know that the gospel comes in and it saves us from the curse of sin
00:05:52.340 but still we have women that are struggling as christian women with the pain of childbirth
00:05:58.460 and so i don't believe that the gospel eradicates physical civilizational temporal curses and
00:06:07.140 blessings. I believe that it came to eradicate the curse of sin. Now, second, I want to clarify that
00:06:15.120 I'm not a race essentialist. So if you have race realism, you have race determinism, and you have
00:06:19.820 race essentialism. Now, race essentialism is the idea that it would elevate biology above
00:06:25.300 spirituality, that essentially who you are biologically matters more than anything. Even if
00:06:32.160 you're saved, it doesn't really determine much who you are as an individual, your biology. You are
00:06:37.360 fixed in that position. Now, scripture is not Gnostic. We know the term Gnostic is that it
00:06:43.060 tries to divorce the physical from the spiritual, right? But scripture is also not materialist,
00:06:47.940 where we're completely material and we don't care about what happens spiritually. Now,
00:06:53.800 spirituality and biology are both important. They're both important, and they both affect
00:07:00.420 who you are. It's not an accident that you've been made a girl. It's not an accident that you've been 0.87
00:07:04.740 made a boy. It's not an accident that you have been made from a particular nation, or that you 0.51
00:07:08.820 came from a particular place, or that you have a particular race. It's not an accident. We are not
00:07:13.960 interchangeable. God has plans and purposes for distinct peoples, but I'm not going to say that
00:07:19.320 your biology is some sort of dungeon to lock you in. No. Christ comes in, and your spirituality and
00:07:25.680 your biology both matter, and we need to figure out how to deal with them equally. And so if you
00:07:32.420 remember last week's sermon, we talked about Genesis 10 and the table of nations, and we learned that
00:07:40.420 nations are just extended genetic families, and they share the same language, the same land, and
00:07:47.760 the same laws. Now we could go on and say the same liturgy and do more L's, but the reality is that
00:07:54.140 Bible talked about that shared basic foundation is that they were the same families, they spoke
00:08:00.860 the same languages, they had the same land, and they had the same laws, which is under the word
00:08:06.820 nation. It's kind of a legalistic forensic term there. And this is why ethnostates, where you have
00:08:14.960 essentially nations that are of the same ethnic family, and they speak the same language, and they
00:08:22.060 share the same place, and they have the same culture and laws, and generally the same religion. 0.86
00:08:28.040 Nations with a clear or racial ethnic majority, they're biblical, and they are to be desired. 0.91
00:08:36.140 Because they are biblical, they are to be desired. By the way, they are historical,
00:08:40.060 and about 90% of all nations today are still that. It is only where we live here in the West
00:08:47.040 that we are to be told that we cannot have some degree of an ethno-state where you have an ethnic
00:08:54.920 majority. We need to be diverse according to the globalist elites, which we will talk about today.
00:09:02.080 Now, we saw that God's design for nations is good because it's orderly, and order brings peace.
00:09:09.700 okay we know that multiculturalism multi-ethnicism multi-religious pluralism all of these things
00:09:18.640 end in chaos civilizational chaos and we know that because um you have groups of people that
00:09:26.720 are fighting for government control that are trying to outlaw or prevent other groups from
00:09:34.220 having that control. And we're seeing that now with Islam in the West. We're seeing them get 0.98
00:09:40.180 into positions of power, rename streets, change your territory, demographic replacement, national 0.88
00:09:45.720 theft, change of reinterpretation of religious laws. It's happening everywhere. And this is
00:09:52.760 important because it is actually sinful. It's a form of envy. It's a violation of the 10th
00:09:56.720 commandment. It's a violation of the 8th commandment because it's national theft. And it's 0.58
00:10:01.080 also not God's design for nations. We know that multiculturalism and pluralism always leads to
00:10:07.080 civilizational conflict. It creates misery among people. It creates individualism. Think about this 0.99
00:10:13.180 for example. Imagine you grew up in a nation that was all the same, all the same people, okay? You
00:10:19.740 had the same ethnic family, and everybody looked like you, acted like you, had the same culture. I
00:10:24.980 know it's hard to imagine in America, but let's just say that you were from Germany, or you were
00:10:29.100 from France or you're from Italy in the 1800s, okay, and you had everything was like you, everything
00:10:35.880 was similar to you. When you start importing and immigrating people who don't share the same 0.64
00:10:41.100 language, don't share the same ethnicity, don't share the same culture, the same religion, the 0.98
00:10:46.680 same values, what it starts to do when you get at critical mass is it produces cultural fragmentation
00:10:53.820 and what cultural fragmentation does is it leads to individualism so it takes what was corporate
00:10:59.580 and covenantal and now you start adding multiple people in and you start to kind of pull back you
00:11:06.680 start to isolate a bit and you start to create individualism and you start to become what's
00:11:10.860 tribal and you start isolating into smaller groups and that starts to break a nation into pieces
00:11:17.100 and it's preparing the way for globalism that's the structure that we see and we're going to see
00:11:22.480 here in Genesis chapter 11 today. And so this framework helped us understand that today's
00:11:29.340 mass immigration in the West, it's not only a political problem. It's actually a sinful problem. 0.98
00:11:37.220 It's actually sinful. So I know we want to look at the political landscape around immigration and 0.97
00:11:42.360 all these things, foreign policy, and we want to just say, oh, that's in the political sphere. That's
00:11:46.300 not anything to do with Christianity. No, wrong, wrong. God has very much to say about Christianity.
00:11:53.440 In fact, if you look throughout the Bible, it's not a book filled with globalism. It is a book
00:11:58.360 filled with nationalism. The Jebusites, the Girgashites, the Philistines, the Israelites,
00:12:03.400 and what does God choose to make his structure known to the world? He takes what? Not a bunch
00:12:10.660 of individuals, not a globalistic empire. No, he takes a nation. He takes a nation, and that nation
00:12:17.760 is the one that brings the gospel to the other nations. So we're going to see how God's design
00:12:24.980 for nationalism is actually very clear. And the issues that we're facing today in the political
00:12:29.860 sphere are very much biblical matters. They're very much Christian matters. In fact, if you keep
00:12:35.640 divorcing this topic from the church because it's not something that we should be talking about,
00:12:45.920 we will continue to see our land taken from us. There's nobody's going to fix this, by the way.
00:12:50.320 There is nobody to fix this except the Christians. We are the only ones that will look at the 1.00
00:12:54.680 scripture and say, you know what? What's happening here is wrong. Okay, the liberals don't know what
00:12:59.340 they're doing. The Muslims are going to take our land if we don't give it to them. It's not whether 1.00
00:13:03.240 or which. It's not whether we have nationalism. It's which kind of nationalism do we have.
00:13:09.260 Is it going to be Christian nationalism or is it going to be Islamic nationalism? Is it going to
00:13:13.420 be Hindu nationalism? And so chapter 11, before we look at it, I think it's important to understand
00:13:20.900 a few things. Genesis chapter 10 and 11, they fit together in an interesting way. Okay, remember
00:13:27.460 that chapter 10 is not moving to chapter 11 chronologically. It's not a chronological
00:13:35.040 structure. We already talked about, we read chapter 10, and it was talking about a post-Babel
00:13:39.280 world, even though it was chronologically before chapter 11. And what's happening here is Genesis
00:13:46.780 10 gives us the completed map of the nations after Babel, and then Genesis 11 backs up to show us the
00:13:55.580 cause. Okay. And this is actually what's called a result then cause, just a construction, a result
00:14:02.440 then cause construction of the text. It's actually quite common in scripture, but we looked at the
00:14:08.360 result and then we're going now to figure out what caused that. It's a, it's kind of backwards,
00:14:14.600 you know, but again, then again, the Hebrew Bible, you reads backwards. We do everything backwards
00:14:17.920 compared to the Hebrew structure, but, but that's what, what's happening right now. We're going back 0.76
00:14:22.060 now to look at the cause of Genesis chapter 10. So in a Western eyes, it would have been nice to
00:14:28.460 read chapter 11 first and then move to chapter 10, but we're not going to do that because the
00:14:32.640 Bible doesn't do that, so we're going to stay within this chronology. Now, the Tower of Babel
00:14:37.900 is often overlooked. When it's taught, the focus is usually on the confusion of languages.
00:14:45.440 It's just, oh look, they just changed languages. Imagine how weird that would be if you went back
00:14:50.420 and your friend couldn't speak English anymore, and he was speaking Spanish, and how strange that
00:14:54.260 would be. Sometimes it talks about the scattering of nations, but that's generally the focus when
00:15:00.980 you go through American Christianity. But the deeper issue is often missed. So Babel reveals
00:15:06.480 man's fallen instinct to do a few things. One, to disobey God. We're going to see that. 0.85
00:15:13.220 to erase distinctions, to not embrace distinctions at the very least, to centralize power,
00:15:21.640 to centralize power, and to reorder the world according to human ambition rather than the
00:15:29.000 divine command to scatter and fill the earth. And so Babel was not just a construction project
00:15:35.960 of the Old Testament. It was a civilizational rebellion against God's design for the world. 0.69
00:15:42.580 That's what it really is at the core.
00:15:44.700 It's a civilizational rebellion for God's design for the world.
00:15:49.580 Now, if you remember, in Genesis 128, God commanded mankind to be fruitful, to multiply, and to fill the earth.
00:15:58.600 And the whole point of that was to exercise dominion, to name things, and to bring the chaos of the world into order under subjection of the lordship of Christ.
00:16:08.600 That was our purpose in the world.
00:16:11.660 But at Babel, we see that man said, no, we will not scatter, we will centralize.
00:16:18.780 We will be, we will not be distinct, we will be the same.
00:16:23.680 This is the message, we're not going to build for outward glory, we're going to build for
00:16:28.960 our inward glory. 0.85
00:16:30.960 That's what's happening here in Babel. 0.97
00:16:33.600 And it's ambition apart from God's will. 0.98
00:16:38.640 It's assent apart from God. 0.95
00:16:42.600 Now, I believe there have been moments in history where Babel becomes very helpful, right? 0.96
00:16:47.820 But the vast majority of history, I think you read over Babel and you go, wow, I'm glad we don't do that anymore. 0.84
00:16:56.280 Nationalism has been the prominent structure for people for many, many centuries.
00:17:03.700 And so, for most of church history, this can easy be a flyover text.
00:17:09.760 Now, today, I don't think that it is.
00:17:12.060 Today, I think that this is a very important text because we are very much in a time of globalism.
00:17:19.560 And globalism is at the forefront of many discussions politically and geopolitically.
00:17:24.420 And I think we need to have an understanding as Christians, what is God's will for organizing people.
00:17:29.560 And so today, the impulse for Babel is all around you, right?
00:17:35.280 Globalism and egalitarianism, right?
00:17:37.600 We erase distinctions.
00:17:38.740 We flatten the hierarchies.
00:17:39.920 We dissolve borders.
00:17:41.360 We centralize power.
00:17:42.860 We order the world for our own purposes, not for the distinct purposes of God's glory.
00:17:50.200 So Babel is not just an ancient story. 0.85
00:17:52.980 It's the recurring blueprint of civilizational sin.
00:17:57.880 it's what happens as the default when you don't have a model this is this is an interesting point
00:18:05.380 when you don't know god's design for nations it's it's going to easily float into globalism
00:18:12.740 and i think historically we understood nationalism america understood it europe understood it
00:18:19.620 australia understood it canada understood it i do not think that we understand it now
00:18:23.940 I think that we have been deconstructed and we are trying to figure out what is right and what
00:18:30.320 is wrong. So let's read verses 1 and 2. It says, now the whole earth had one language and the same
00:18:36.780 words. And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled
00:18:44.580 there. All right, so Babel is the story of the founding city Babylonia or Babylon, okay? It's
00:18:52.840 the same place and from Genesis 10 we know this project was associated with Nimrod what a great 0.94
00:19:00.820 name right Nimrod okay and Nimrod was a descent a descendant of Ham through Cush so again right 0.51
00:19:09.620 away we start to see that Hamitic relationship with the curse and it's not through Canaan it's
00:19:16.760 actually through ham's other son cush which again supports this idea that it was not just a curse
00:19:23.580 limited to canaan but also a curse to all of ham's posterity and so nimrod is described as a mighty
00:19:30.380 man he's described as a kingdom builder and some scholars believe that humanity may have actually
00:19:36.980 began to scatter at this time after the flood but nimrod saw that dispersion as a threat for his
00:19:44.400 desire for centralized power. So that could be possible. That's one interpretation. And so rather
00:19:51.200 than allowing the families of the earth to spread out under God's design, he gathered them, he
00:19:56.000 organized them, he centralized them into a globalistic structure. So that's, I think it's a
00:20:00.180 very possible thesis or hypothesis. And so the Bible does not give us an exact date of Babel.
00:20:07.880 A lot of scholars believe that it's somewhere between 100 and 300 years after the flood.
00:20:15.000 There's somewhere between a few thousand to tens of thousands of people, but not millions of people.
00:20:20.580 And so we're seeing thousands of people a few hundred years after the flood.
00:20:24.740 We still have fairly long lifespans at this point, probably greater reproduction than we have, obviously, in this generation.
00:20:32.520 and many people read the Tower of Babel and say, see, unity, unity was ideal, right? Unity was
00:20:41.240 ideal, one language, one people, one humanity. And what they're doing there is they're turning
00:20:45.820 it upside down. And I'll explain how they do that. They take the opening condition of one
00:20:51.860 language and one culture, and as though, like, essentially, they say, see, God is, the punishment
00:20:59.700 is nationalism that implies that that what they had was actually good they they might have done
00:21:05.340 it wrong but nationalism is the consequence see they reverse it they flip it out on its side
00:21:11.760 and they reinterpret this passage of scripture they'll even say things like um you know
00:21:18.420 hey but you see even in pentecost pentecost is a reversal of of babel's consequence of
00:21:25.520 nationalism. And now, see, you know, we want to have one humanity, one mankind that are all back
00:21:32.900 in Christ. As long as we're all Christians, the design for nations doesn't matter anymore.
00:21:40.240 Okay, that's a very common interpretation. But Pentecost does not erase the nations.
00:21:46.840 Pentecost does not abolish languages. Okay, at Pentecost, pay attention to this,
00:21:51.640 the Spirit does not make everyone speak a universal language. That's not what happens.
00:21:56.680 He causes the mighty works of God to be heard in distinct languages. Okay, it's reaffirming
00:22:03.320 the national distinctions of language. Language is so important, right? You cannot separate language
00:22:09.180 from ancestry. You cannot separate language from place. You cannot separate language even from
00:22:13.520 geography. It is so embedded when you start to study these distinctions. So Babel is man-made
00:22:21.060 unity under globalism and rebellion against God. Okay. Pentecost is spirit-given unity to the 0.94
00:22:30.180 nations to submit to Christ. So Babel is globalism, rebellion. Pentecost is saying, no, we, Christ is
00:22:37.620 coming to save the nations. And we know this, right? Go therefore, make disciples of the nations,
00:22:45.060 baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them, who is
00:22:50.680 them they bring it back the nations to obey all that i have commanded and so we know that god is
00:22:59.300 a pro he's a nationalist he designed the world for nations
00:23:04.480 and so common speech to be clear it didn't erase god's command to spread multiply fill the earth
00:23:13.600 form distinct peoples distinct places the problem at babel was not that mankind could understand
00:23:19.140 one another, okay? That's fine. Europeans speak English, a lot of them, and they're all distinct
00:23:27.280 nations. There's nothing wrong with the ability to have one particular shared language. The problem
00:23:33.000 was that mankind used that shared language to organize in rebellion. That was the point. So,
00:23:39.680 after the flood, people moved from, they moved southwest, okay? At least the Hamites did. Southwest, 1.00
00:23:49.140 So the Japhethites, we know, moved northwest. They moved from Mount Ararat, and they moved up 1.00
00:23:55.000 northwest to the Caucasus Mountains is where we have the white people called Caucasian, right?
00:24:00.440 But Cush's people, and again, we have, this is what happens in Genesis chapter 10. So this is 0.91
00:24:08.680 happening after Babel. But you have this group of people that's down here southwest at this point,
00:24:15.820 slightly southwest of Mount Ararat and they are in the plains of Mesopotamia and which is modern
00:24:25.140 day Iraq okay so you have the people here the languages gets dispersed and then they move
00:24:30.660 northwest and then the Hamites move down southeast and so you have different structures there I wish
00:24:35.500 I had a map to show you all but it's modern day Iraq and it actually looks I looked online it
00:24:41.740 looks like rolling hills. Right now it looks pretty desert-y, but if you kind of look at the
00:24:47.140 rolling hills of Prescott Valley, it looks similar to that. There's mountains way in the background,
00:24:51.860 but it says here that they went to the plains of Shinar to build this project, to build this
00:24:57.380 and establish this city. So in verse 3 it says, and they said to one another, come let us make bricks
00:25:03.900 and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone and bitumen for mortar. Now
00:25:12.020 notice the phrase they said to one another. Okay. It's going to be repeated in verse three. It's
00:25:19.440 going to be repeated in verse four. Moses is emphasizing again, this one language idea.
00:25:23.840 They're communicating to one another. They have common speech. Now notice next that they decide
00:25:31.960 to build with bricks. Now this is a, I passed over this pretty quick and I had to do a little bit of
00:25:37.900 study. But prior to brick, think about it, prior to brick, civilization was limited to where you
00:25:44.040 could find stone. If you wanted to build something out of stone, you need to be near mountains where
00:25:49.500 you can break off rock so that you could build something out of stone. And so you needed access
00:25:55.400 to that. But Babel is built on a plain. Okay, so it's, there's no mountains around this particular
00:26:01.120 area and there's uh so so they're starting to manufacture their own building materials from
00:26:07.820 the ground from the dirt and so brick gave them a scalable substitute for stone and this is a very
00:26:16.840 massive technological advancement at this particular time it allows them to build anywhere
00:26:22.560 now compared to building in geographic locations that were next to mountains and it was uniform
00:26:28.840 it was easy to shape, it was easy to multiply, it could be produced in mass quantities, they could
00:26:34.720 dig it up everywhere they were at. And it shows, I think as a principle, that technology can
00:26:41.480 accelerate rebellion. And I think all of us can see how technology could be used for good, it could
00:26:47.800 be also used for bad. I think we could see that with the internet and with AI. Technology can
00:26:52.400 accelerate rebellion, it can also accelerate righteousness. But I think we're going to see
00:26:56.840 here is that this particular instance, it's accelerated for the use of evil. And it says
00:27:04.640 here in verse four, then they said, come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top
00:27:11.340 in the heavens and let us make a name for ourselves, pay attention here, lest we be dispersed
00:27:18.320 over the face of the whole earth. So verse four is what I would say is I think it's the central
00:27:24.560 text for today. Okay, we're going to spend the most time on this particular verse. And so I know
00:27:29.240 you're thinking, oh my gosh, Dale, you have nine verses and you're in verse four. We'll get through
00:27:32.300 it, okay? But the rest of the verses are going to be very quick. So verse four is a very important
00:27:38.700 text. So there's two great sins at Babel. Number one is pagan worship. Number two is globalism 0.83
00:27:48.740 or centralized power. Pagan worship and globalism. Kind of sounds like our world today, right? 0.98
00:27:54.560 pagan worship and globalism and both are forms of rebellion against god so to understand what's
00:28:00.400 happening here we need to remember that nobody in the ancient world is an atheist okay atheism is 0.90
00:28:06.660 retarded okay we need to know that that everybody everybody believed that there was gods or a 0.87
00:28:15.360 spiritual world or there was something beyond the physical men did not build great towers as this 0.92
00:28:24.180 like uh civic achievement oh look at the civic monument look how great i am at architecture
00:28:30.180 look at my engineering skills look at this great beautiful structure that i built that that's not
00:28:36.020 what's happening it's not architectural achievement that they're trying to accomplish here
00:28:39.640 okay they built them because they believed the gods dwelt in the heavens they believed the gods
00:28:46.400 dwelt in the heavens and these were were essentially buildings to create a meeting point
00:28:54.480 between man and god that's essentially what's being uh portrayed here and so this is why the
00:29:01.980 ancient world is filled with pyramids okay pyramid structures um they're called ziggurats or temples
00:29:11.320 or do you guys know the Old Testament? What are they called? The high places. Okay, so the high
00:29:18.040 places and this idea is that the Tower of Babel was probably something like a massive ziggurat
00:29:24.620 and a ziggurat is like this stair-stepped tower that reaches up to the heavens and
00:29:30.920 in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Mesoamerica, places like the Mayan civilizations,
00:29:37.860 Priests would come up, they would ascend up these towers, and they would make blood sacrifices to
00:29:44.140 their pagan gods. And if anybody has seen the movie Apocalypto, you know exactly what I'm 0.91
00:29:50.260 talking about, right? You have these people climbing up the mountains, and they're making
00:29:54.700 human sacrifices, cutting off their heads, throwing it down the steps, catching them at the bottom.
00:29:59.900 evil. I mean, evil stuff. And this is what's happening here. This is the tower, the kind of 1.00
00:30:08.360 thing that is being built here in the Tower of Babel. And so Babel's not merely a construction
00:30:15.120 project. It's a religious project. It is a religious project. They were not just building
00:30:20.960 upward. They were trying to reach heaven on their own terms. They're trying to make a name for
00:30:26.760 themselves, to be equal with God, to show that they are one to be reckoned with.
00:30:35.540 It's the same motive of Satan, okay? This is actually a very satanic motive, and we know this
00:30:41.500 because of Isaiah chapter 14, verses 13 through 14, and it says, this is talking of Satan,
00:30:47.760 it's talking about Satan's fall from heaven, but it says, for you have said in your heart,
00:30:52.640 that you is Satan. For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt
00:30:58.300 my throne above the stars of God. I will sit also on the mount of the congregation of the farthest
00:31:04.340 sides of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. I will be like the most high, end
00:31:10.900 quote. That is a satanic desire. And that is what we see here in Babel. It's what we see even
00:31:20.940 in some of the hearts of the men that build skyscrapers. I'm going to build the tallest
00:31:26.340 tower. There's a little bit of that in there. Let me make a name for myself. Look at the thing that
00:31:33.180 I built, right? It's all kind of that spirit is twisted up in there. So Babel was very much
00:31:39.820 satanic. It was a satanic place. But Babel is not only about ascent, it's also about 1.00
00:31:47.940 centralization. So it's not just about ascent, it's also about centralization or globalism.
00:31:55.320 So Genesis 9-1, we know that God blesses Noah and Shem and Ham and Japheth, and he reiterates
00:32:03.960 Genesis 1-28, be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. Okay, so we get the dominion mandate
00:32:09.160 again given to these three covenant heads of humanity. And so God's design for both the
00:32:17.300 pre-flood world and the post-flood world is to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth, okay? So
00:32:23.080 it's not a result or reaction to sin to fill the earth. It's actually, before sin enters the world,
00:32:29.760 it's actually good that God said, hey, no, you're going to be fruitful, you're going to be
00:32:33.400 multiply, and you're going to scatter across the earth. And God says the same thing again
00:32:37.920 to even a fallen world. You're going to do that. You're not going to stay in one place.
00:32:42.980 you're going to move, and you're going to scatter across the whole world. So God's design
00:32:49.340 was dispersion, not concentration. God's design is for dispersion, not concentration. Okay,
00:32:58.420 he intended for households to become peoples, families to become peoples, and peoples to become
00:33:03.880 nations, or inherit lands, and create nations. We see this even with the story of the nation of
00:33:10.460 israel we saw probably the expectation of languages forming at least dialects forming and again of 0.66
00:33:18.660 course nations to form and so the people at babel were explicitly rejecting god's command they even
00:33:27.260 tell us the purpose why are they building this city it says it right in the text lest we be dispersed
00:33:34.700 over the face of the whole earth.
00:33:38.580 They were trying to stay together.
00:33:43.760 J.D. Hall, a friend of mine, said
00:33:46.520 in an article on this passage,
00:33:51.060 quote,
00:33:51.380 They knew exactly what God had told them to do,
00:33:55.700 and they were engineering around it.
00:33:58.460 The city was designed from the ground up
00:34:00.940 to circumvent it,
00:34:02.940 staying in one place,
00:34:04.200 pooling under one language, constructing one centralized urban hub. That was the explicit
00:34:11.660 goal, and the explicit goal was disobedience cast in brick and mortar, end quote. So ultimately,
00:34:19.780 this is very important. If you don't get anything, get this, okay? Genesis presents us with two
00:34:26.840 clear extremes of human rebellion. Two clear extremes of human rebellion. So after the fall
00:34:34.920 of Adam, we see humanity plunge into anarchy. It's just anarchy and individualism. It's tyranny.
00:34:43.800 That's what you see prior to the flood. There's really not, there's groups of people. There's not
00:34:49.300 really nations. It's individualism. There's a lots of rise and fall and tyrannical realities that are
00:34:55.380 going there, but there's not a lot of order. And so there's anarchy is one form of rebellion.
00:35:02.280 And then after the flood, we see humanity plunge into globalism and the erasure of nationalism.
00:35:09.820 So you have anarchy and individualism, and then you have globalism. You have these two errors
00:35:14.980 that you see highlighted here in the first chapters of Genesis. And this is crucial to
00:35:21.460 understand because nationalism is god's ordained solution for human order okay nationalism is the
00:35:30.160 answer it's god's design for human order it's the only structure that allows distinct peoples
00:35:39.040 to fulfill the commandment that god gave them to to be dispersed to scatter to fill the earth
00:35:46.380 and it is the only way you can do that with ordered harmony. It is the only way. So we will
00:35:53.120 try individualism and tribalism and anarchy. We will try that. And we will also try globalism
00:36:00.080 and empires and all those things. Both of them are ditches on the side of the road. And the road
00:36:06.800 that God has designed for our nature and for his design is nationalism. It is the way for harmony.
00:36:14.820 So God has ordered creation in a particular way
00:36:17.280 and the civilizational model that aligns with both our nature,
00:36:21.780 our human nature too, birds of a feather flock together, right?
00:36:25.300 Our human nature that we have familiarity, we like likeness.
00:36:29.920 We want to be around people who are familiar to us and like us.
00:36:33.140 There's actually a biological, scientifically proven, historically shown reality with that.
00:36:39.600 We like to be around people who like us.
00:36:41.800 Again, go to a prison for a day, and you're going to see everybody breaking up into these particular groups.
00:36:46.900 Look throughout all of church history. 0.97
00:36:49.420 Do you want to be a foreigner who is foreign? 0.96
00:36:52.040 Do you want to be a stranger who is strange in the land? 0.97
00:36:55.540 No.
00:36:56.680 No, people like nationalism.
00:36:58.280 They like to be among their own people.
00:37:00.840 This is normal. 0.83
00:37:01.780 This is biblical.
00:37:02.360 biblical. And so ethno-nationalism, the idea of an ancestral people, is God's design for harmony
00:37:13.580 among peoples. Now the greatest way to have that is to have all the nations Christian.
00:37:19.620 Christian nationalism. The whole world in ordered nations, yet they are Christian, 0.95
00:37:24.680 and relate to one another, though they are different, the way that you might relate 0.98
00:37:29.540 to someone of a different race. Hey, I love you. We have great times together, great conversations,
00:37:34.820 discussions, friendships, all of those. You can have that at a national level when they are
00:37:40.100 Christian, when they are Christian. And so nationalism allows for limited, compatible
00:37:48.460 immigration. It does. So the good thing about this is that it doesn't mean that every nation
00:37:53.200 has to be a 100% white or 100% black or 100% Arab or whatever, right? No. The Bible offers,
00:38:01.200 because Israel's example, is that there are immigrants. There's foreigners. There's sojourners 0.96
00:38:06.820 in the land. But it is never at a degree in which would produce demographic replacement,
00:38:14.100 national theft, or change the language of the nation, change the religion of the nation.
00:38:20.940 everything there which is happening now in the west is sinful and violates god's design here
00:38:27.860 for nations so nationalism is not merely a political preference it's not this is not
00:38:34.420 something that is political this is something that is biblical it is christian it is something
00:38:40.300 historical you should embrace it i believe you can say without a doubt that jesus christ is a
00:38:46.820 nationalist. It is his design for the world. Now, one final note that I want to say on this
00:38:54.900 particular verse is that I also believe empires are out of step with God's design for nations.
00:39:01.960 An empire is kind of a halfway house to globalism. It's just like a, it's essentially
00:39:09.240 one massive conglomerate of nations with one power over it. And I think, honestly,
00:39:15.000 that's what's going on in america america right now is not a nation it is the states are closer
00:39:23.000 to nations but it were really much like an empire right now and i think we feel it it's not harmonious
00:39:29.720 not many people like it we become less engaged in society uh depression has gone up um you know
00:39:39.340 national pride has gone down. There is confusion, chaos, conflict between races, between generations,
00:39:46.860 between conservative and political positions. There are wars politically and ideologically
00:39:53.920 going around us at every possible level right now because we don't understand this. Now,
00:39:59.240 confederations, unions, cooperative alliances between nations, I think those are legitimate,
00:40:04.140 it, I think, but empires are something different. I think an empire gathers many distinct peoples
00:40:09.820 and puts them under one central throne, and I don't think that's great. I think that's
00:40:15.800 sometimes necessary, but I don't think that is the ultimate goal. I don't think it is the ideal,
00:40:21.260 and I don't think it is something that we should say, that's the end game. Let's make
00:40:24.620 massive empires and that's that's it so um moving on to verse five through eight
00:40:34.820 and the lord came down to see the city and the tower which the children of man had built and
00:40:42.620 the lord said behold they are one people and they have all one language and this is only the
00:40:49.320 beginning of what they will do, and nothing they propose to do now will be impossible for them.
00:40:56.100 Come, let us go down, and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one
00:41:03.120 another's speech. So the Lord dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, 0.96
00:41:09.720 and they left off building the city all right now if their goal was to build a tower where god
00:41:19.560 where they could climb up and god could come down to some degree they succeeded right okay um god
00:41:25.680 did come down um now is it did he come down physically did he come down spiritually we don't
00:41:29.520 know that the the the actual realities of this text but god did come down to some degree and
00:41:36.720 he did not come down to acknowledge their greatness. He came down to acknowledge their
00:41:40.560 wickedness and obviously to correct and rebuke and give consequences to them. And what they would,
00:41:50.240 what they thought would make a name for themselves turned out to making confusion for themselves.
00:41:54.880 So they wanted everybody to know them in clarity and ultimately they get confusion. Now the word
00:42:01.820 babble is not the exact word for confusion in the hebrew but it's very close like one letter
00:42:08.440 difference and it's to sound like confusion and so it's a it's a literary tool to imply that this
00:42:16.100 is a place of confusion now the phrase uh the phrase and nothing they purpose or propose to do
00:42:26.280 will be impossible for them that's a figure of speech it's not saying i've heard a lot of
00:42:30.600 interpretations, oh man, they could have just come up with everything. If we just had one language,
00:42:35.740 man, they would have came up with AI back then. No, I don't think that's what it's talking about.
00:42:39.700 I think what it's talking about is it's a figure of speech that refers to their potential for evil.
00:42:46.160 They would have just continued to reproduce evil and evil and evil to a kind of an endless degree.
00:42:51.860 now we do know that overcoming language barriers certainly does allow for acceleration in invention
00:43:00.640 and so there is some truth there but i don't want to get too much into that now here's the point
00:43:05.620 that i was making earlier nationalism is not the punishment nationalism is not the punishment
00:43:10.300 it is the redirection of what they refuse to do voluntarily okay nationalism is not the punishment
00:43:18.200 it is the redirection of what they refused to do voluntarily on their own. God said, you know what?
00:43:24.660 I'm going to make you do what I command you to do because you should have done it on your own,
00:43:28.920 but I'm going to do it for you. And so he created circumstances that would scatter the people
00:43:34.000 by force, creating the nationalistic structure. And so he was restoring his original mandate.
00:43:43.180 That's essentially what we see here.
00:43:44.660 Verse 9.
00:43:45.860 Therefore, its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth, 0.53
00:43:52.760 and from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of the earth.
00:43:56.880 Okay.
00:43:59.320 This is going to start my conclusion here.
00:44:01.820 Now, there's a reason why the story of Babel comes so early in Scripture.
00:44:06.600 The drive to globalize, the drive to internationalize, to erase borders, to dissolve distinctions,
00:44:14.860 this isn't some sort of modern tendency. This is actually a very early tendency of sinful and
00:44:21.360 fallen humanity. Now, since the scattering and confusion of languages here in Babel, 1.00
00:44:27.020 globalism has been functionally difficult to achieve. It's just been hard to achieve.
00:44:32.760 We're going to become a global nation.
00:44:34.280 I'm going to hop on my horse, and we're going to do that in this ship.
00:44:37.380 We're going to cross the ocean.
00:44:38.120 It was difficult, right?
00:44:40.000 It was slow to try to create empires.
00:44:42.840 It took a lot of time to do that.
00:44:45.200 Today, with airplanes shrinking the world, translation apps, erasing language distinctions,
00:44:52.620 with the internet connecting people at a great degree, social media flooding our eyes with
00:44:57.260 images of everywhere else but our own home. 0.86
00:44:59.480 the spirit of babel is kind of it's returning but it's not returning to the middle east
00:45:06.560 it's returning to the new plains of shinar and the new plains of shinar are the west
00:45:15.980 okay the spirit of babel is returning to the west and when i say the west i mean the united states
00:45:22.500 Canada, Australia, Europe. We are seeing Western civilization become the new planes of Shinar. 0.88
00:45:32.020 And the Zionists, the technocrats, the liberal institutions, they're making bricks. And they're 0.97
00:45:37.200 making bricks again. And they're making them in a very different way. And they're shaping the people
00:45:43.060 into these bricks. They're turning us into globalists. They're turning us into these
00:45:49.540 these centralized people and they're getting us the way they're doing that is they're getting us
00:45:55.480 to hate our nationalistic distinctions they're getting us to hate ourselves okay think about 0.99
00:46:01.520 how they're doing this white guilt reparations abortions kill your kids kill your kids demonizing 0.98
00:46:09.060 all of our history tearing down our monuments privatizing christianity can't have that out here 0.96
00:46:15.700 in the public, of feminizing our men, masculinizing the women, making everybody single, nobody's 0.99
00:46:23.080 getting married, pornography is everywhere, turning kids into barren homosexuals and trannies, 0.98
00:46:31.680 sex changes, weird stuff, marrying our daughters off to foreigners that are incompatible. 1.00
00:46:37.880 That's what's happening. What they're doing is they're actually tearing apart, they're 1.00
00:46:43.940 deconstructing all of our nationalistic tendencies so that we lose all of our identity
00:46:49.780 and we can be fitting into a globalistic structure.
00:46:55.540 All of it is erasing that Western identity.
00:46:59.880 Just this week, I was actually reading, doing a lot of study on this concept of nationalism.
00:47:05.920 I think it's one of the forefront issues, possibly the forefront issue for the West. 0.98
00:47:09.780 and i was fascinating i heard a guy do a piece little essay on this but i learned how the dumb 0.95
00:47:18.540 blonde moniker came to be the dumb blonde moniker came to be it was created by hollywood jews who 0.98
00:47:27.080 began casting blondes into these airhead roles yes if you're old enough you remember this 0.98
00:47:33.040 certainly it started in the 60s and the 70s but it actually went into the 80s 90s i remember 0.98
00:47:38.980 growing up and it was, yeah, if you were a blonde woman, man, you were an airhead, you know, you're
00:47:44.140 a valley girl, like there was just all of these phrases that we'd use, especially in Southern 1.00
00:47:47.720 California where I lived, dumb blonde was a very real thing. In fact, it was to a point where women 1.00
00:47:53.760 really were dyeing their hairs because they didn't want to actually appear to be a dumb blonde. 1.00
00:48:00.100 Now, in 2015, a study revealed that blonde women actually have the highest average IQ over any 1.00
00:48:06.760 other hair color. Isn't that fascinating? So they take this group of people who are actually the
00:48:14.460 brightest women on earth and they make them to be the least desirable. And they do that only in the 1.00
00:48:24.860 West. It's just a very strange thing. It's one of like a hundred things that you can notice. But
00:48:29.960 that shouldn't shock us, right? Because they did this with dumb dads also. If anybody saw Home 1.00
00:48:34.660 Improvement, or Everybody Loves Raymond, or all the shows back in the 90s and in the early 2000s, 0.99
00:48:41.400 it was the dumb white dad. What an idiot that guy is. And the mother, oh, she's so smart. 1.00
00:48:48.720 So we effeminize, and we make the dads fools, and then we masculinize the women, and we turn this 0.97
00:48:53.740 feminist culture, and it was, again, very heavily the Zionist influence in Hollywood that is 0.97
00:48:59.780 influencing this culture to deconstruct us into this crazy hate self-hating structure everything
00:49:08.180 is sexualized you know how many movies ever you can't watch a movie i have to like the invention
00:49:15.300 of apps that tell us can i watch this show or movie with my kids we had to actually invent
00:49:20.940 that service because they sexualized with pornograph or pornifying everything that was media
00:49:27.860 and so you can't watch a movie without first checking oh my gosh is there going to be some
00:49:33.200 terrible pornographic scene in this pg-13 movie that i can't watch with my own family
00:49:39.720 um our past is in our national heroes they've been demonized um racially there's if you look
00:49:47.600 at like anti-white racism that's happening throughout the media it's unbelievable what
00:49:52.200 do you see in media today oh we got to have a white guy and an asian woman and a black woman
00:49:57.080 and a Hindu guy and a Muslim there and every possible thing. And this is so new. You got to
00:50:04.380 remember, Friends that ended its last episode, I think in like 2003, was basically seven white
00:50:10.600 people in New York, okay? Imagine a show that did that today. It would be mocked. Everybody's white, 0.50
00:50:18.340 oh my goodness. That is, this has only been like 20 years that it's really dove so heavily into 0.98
00:50:26.300 this racial conglomeration of, you're not a white nation, even though that's how we were since 1620.
00:50:34.420 You're not a white nation. You are a conglomerate of multiple different races. And for any desire
00:50:41.660 to keep sort of national identity, it's evil. It's wrong. You shouldn't do that. Now, Mexico can do it.
00:50:48.120 And Nigeria can do it. And Bangladesh can do it. And Japan can do it. And Korea can do it. 0.63
00:50:54.400 and columbia can do it south america you can't do it we have to embrace this and if you don't 0.96
00:51:04.440 you are wicked and so
00:51:08.080 as they fill firm form these bricks of globalism up they start taking false religions and then we 0.99
00:51:21.080 have Hinduism, and then we have Islam, and we have Judaism, and we have all these religions 0.80
00:51:26.740 flooding in. And I just saw an image, and it shows a picture of a guy. He's wearing a shirt that says
00:51:33.440 atheist, and he's walking happily through the streets. And it shows all the religions, and it
00:51:41.320 shows Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam. But it doesn't show Judaism, right? Atheism never
00:51:52.380 condemns Judaism. And it's a very strange thing. And so you have this privatization of Christianity.
00:51:59.860 You have this flooding in of Islam, flooding in of Hindus. Have you been to Texas recently? 0.91
00:52:05.620 because you should go and when you go to texas you will see the demographics that have changed 1.00
00:52:12.100 rapidly just in the last five to ten years you have hindus everywhere in texas
00:52:18.780 and any remaining nationalists are labeled nazis just because you want to have a nation 0.69
00:52:26.820 now you're a nazi uh any traditionalists are called misogynists uh any bold christians are 0.95
00:52:34.540 called bigots, extreme, right? And I will say, and for a moment, it looks like we're going to lose. 0.95
00:52:43.440 Like, it can feel like we're going to lose. Like, how do you recover this? How do you get out of
00:52:48.760 this? But by God's grace, I believe that we can trust that Babel always falls, always falls. 1.00
00:52:57.760 Multiculturalism never leads to peace. It leads, as I said earlier, to civilizational misery. 1.00
00:53:02.060 even liberalists are going to hate this even liberals are going to hate the world that they're
00:53:07.400 creating because it's painful nobody likes globalism nobody likes universalism it is
00:53:16.180 unnatural to your own human nature we are not made for religious pluralism we're not made for
00:53:24.060 these realities we're made for unity we're made for tribalism we're made for community we're made
00:53:28.800 for likeness. We're not made for diversity. And this is good. God designed us this way.
00:53:42.400 Globalism, the heart of Babel, is not God's design for humanity. And we know that in the end,
00:53:47.740 it's not going to be that. And here's why. Revelation 21 and 22, it's the inauguration
00:53:53.440 of the new heavens and the new earth. And we do not see globalists entering into the kingdom of
00:54:00.780 God that way. We do not see some sort of ethnic slurry where everybody speaks one language and
00:54:05.880 everybody's one color. We don't see that. What we see is distinct tribes, distinct nations,
00:54:11.960 distinct tongues, all bringing their own unique glories into the new heavens and the new earth.
00:54:17.800 and the or the only way that could occur is if god actually by his providence preserves
00:54:24.200 those distinct nations and so everybody that's screaming for diversity what that really means
00:54:31.200 is not diversity if you want to keep the actual mosaic of the world then you actually have to keep
00:54:37.660 nations borders and boundaries and peoples if everybody intermarries then you do not keep
00:54:45.460 distinct nations. You do not keep distinct languages. No, you need to keep the mosaic
00:54:52.900 differences. Now, it doesn't mean we're enemies. It means that in Christ we can be close, we can
00:54:58.960 love one another, and understand our differences, especially in the church. And so I want you,
00:55:06.300 as an application, is to help tear down the high places of the West.
00:55:12.280 Help tear down the things that are the babble impulses that you see in the world.
00:55:19.100 Reject anything that internationalizes a particular set of nations. 0.98
00:55:24.760 Reject anything that perverts Christian nations' historic identity. 0.79
00:55:29.720 Embrace the idea of mass deportations as truly a biblical reality. 1.00
00:55:34.040 It's actually a good thing. 1.00
00:55:37.300 Assimilation is a really good thing. 0.95
00:55:40.660 These are not just political desires, but biblical realities in order to uphold God's design for the world.
00:55:48.600 And by God, we will have our home again.
00:55:51.040 Amen?
00:55:51.620 Amen.
00:55:52.620 Let's pray.
00:55:54.940 Father, we thank you, Lord, that you have given us a template that we might follow.
00:56:00.240 Lord, we ask that you would help us to not abuse it.
00:56:03.860 Lord, that we would never hate people that are made in the image of God.
00:56:06.640 Lord that you would give us wisdom
00:56:09.340 to understand and navigate distinctions
00:56:11.080 without becoming extreme
00:56:12.200 Lord that you would help us
00:56:15.320 to be like Christ
00:56:16.260 Lord that we would love all people
00:56:19.520 but Lord that we would
00:56:21.400 understand the ordering of people
00:56:23.760 Lord not for our own interest
00:56:26.540 but for the interest of peace
00:56:27.760 for the interest of accomplishing
00:56:30.060 the will that you have for the world
00:56:31.580 Lord because it's good
00:56:34.000 and we believe that it's good
00:56:36.140 lord we ask that you would eradicate any emotion for globalism in our own hearts
00:56:44.340 any desire to be quiet about these distinctions in our own hearts
00:56:51.500 lord that we would move the overton window that we would open the conversation that
00:56:56.860 americans and westerners alike would be able to have these conversations but with scripture in
00:57:02.900 hand, or that we might not make the mistakes that other nations have made in the past,
00:57:07.560 and that we would do it all for your glory. We ask in the name of Christ. Amen.
