00:00:00.000 Well, praise God, because today is going to feel a little bit less like a sermon and more
00:00:09.400 like a Bible study. So I want you guys to have your Bibles open. I don't care if it's
00:00:13.300 on your phone or if you have your paper Bible, but today we'll be flipping around the Bible
00:00:19.960 quite a bit. For the past five weeks, we've been studying eschatology. If I could offer
00:00:27.600 just a simple definition of eschatology. It would be the study of what God says
00:00:37.020 about how history will end. That's what we're talking about. What does God say
00:00:45.180 about how history will end? Today, I'm going to be delivering sermons six of seven,
00:00:52.340 and it's titled Post-Millennialism in the Old Testament.
00:00:58.820 Now, if you remember part one introduced in eschatology, it was an introduction.
00:01:02.800 We talked about historic premillennialism, amillennialism, and postmillennialism.
00:01:08.360 Those are the three primary views.
00:01:10.180 Now, if you remember part two, I did kind of a polemic or a defense against historic premillennialism
00:01:21.060 and dispensational premillennialism, showing that there is a current reigning king and a current
00:01:27.420 kingdom. Part three through five, we did a introduction to the doctrine of partial
00:01:36.160 preterism. And that was really understanding how Matthew chapter 24 verses one through 35
00:01:41.280 were speaking to events regarding the temple's destruction in 70 AD and not events that were
00:01:49.480 become in our future regarding the end of the world. Now, as I have stated several times in this
00:01:57.360 series, our beliefs on eschatology have severe consequences on how we live. 0.68
00:02:08.220 If Christians believe that God intends for the church to progressively suffer and shrink,
00:02:16.700 where only a small remnant of society will be, you know, raptured and rescued at the return of
00:02:25.360 Christ, then the church is going to offer, or it's going to adopt a posture of defeatism
00:02:32.960 and survival rather than a posture of conquering and advancing Christ's kingdom.
00:02:42.180 Now, if there was ever a justified time for God's people to have a posture of pessimism,
00:02:50.060 I believe that it was in the Old Testament.
00:02:53.900 Now, in that period, what I mean by that is that it was fair for someone to think, 0.81
00:03:00.080 well, until the coming of the Messiah, the fall of man will dominate the world. 0.99
00:03:07.520 I believe that's a true statement. 1.00
00:03:09.200 Isaiah 24, 5-6
00:03:14.100 You don't need to turn here, but it says 0.98
00:03:16.200 The earth lies defiled under its inhabitants 1.00
00:03:19.480 For they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant 1.00
00:03:24.880 Therefore a curse devours the earth
00:03:27.480 And its inhabitants suffer for their guilt
00:03:30.880 Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched
00:03:33.840 And few men are left
00:03:35.700 micah 7 2 through 4 says this is hyperbolic language that he's using here the godly has 0.51
00:03:43.340 perished from the earth and there is no one upright among mankind they all lie and wait
00:03:50.720 for blood and each hunts the other with a net their hands are on what is evil to do it well
00:03:57.420 the prince and the judge ask for a bribe and the great man utters the evil desires of his soul
00:04:03.300 So in the Old Testament, there was a valid pessimism.
00:04:14.060 Without Christ reversing the curse of the fall, these types of descriptions from Isaiah and Micah would be the inevitable trajectory of humanity.
00:04:26.340 Sin would continue to reign.
00:04:29.120 Corruption would spread among the nations further and deeper and wider.
00:04:33.960 And the longing for a savior would go stronger and stronger.
00:04:41.520 But, this is the key point here, but to apply that old covenant pessimism after new covenant victory
00:04:53.980 is to not grasp the trajectory-transforming power of the gospel.
00:05:02.160 The gospel split time.
00:05:05.600 It's literally the year 2025 based off of the coming of Christ.
00:05:12.440 There was a cosmic trajectory shift that occurred
00:05:17.840 as the fall was dominating until the Messiah came.
00:05:25.300 And then there was a shift, and we're going to be talking about that today.
00:05:31.340 If I could clarify just a bit, to maintain an Old Covenant pre-Savior posture.
00:05:41.480 We're waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue this world.
00:05:45.860 If you have that posture, that's an old covenant posture.
00:05:50.320 But if you have that in a new covenant post-savior era,
00:05:57.520 it's kind of like continuing to live in darkness after the sun has risen.
00:06:02.880 It's basically what a lot of people in the church do.
00:06:06.980 You're waiting in darkness even though it's sunny outside.
00:06:13.200 And we have this pessimistic church that it's only going to get worse.
00:06:17.220 And it's just going to get harder and harder for the church.
00:06:20.620 And you shouldn't maybe have kids or grandkids because it's just going to get more difficult for them.
00:06:30.780 Today, under the new covenant, we have the substance.
00:06:33.880 We have the substance of what the old covenant promised.
00:06:39.220 We have the reality of what the Old Covenant foreshadowed.
00:06:44.320 We have the Messiah, his power, his authority over heaven and earth.
00:06:48.320 And it has shifted and overturned the trajectory of the fall.
00:07:00.500 And I don't know if you remember me preaching through Romans chapter 5 and 6.
00:07:08.580 But it really teaches that Christ is reversing the effects of the fallen Adam.
00:07:16.780 And now, again, while I believe that the Old Covenant or the Old Testament believers had this reason for pessimism,
00:07:25.200 I want to clarify that it wasn't an untethered pessimism.
00:07:29.080 It wasn't just like this ongoing forever pessimism.
00:07:32.100 No, it was a limited pessimism.
00:07:33.700 It was limited because it was waiting for the birth of the Messiah. 1.00
00:07:40.760 The problem is that Christians today, catch me here please, 0.96
00:07:45.340 that Christians today have expectations for the second coming that were already fulfilled in the first coming. 0.95
00:07:53.120 We're sitting here like as if we're old covenant Jews waiting for Jesus to come save us,
00:07:59.640 as if he had not already come and done this massive work. 0.75
00:08:03.700 However, this is because Christians don't grasp how Christ fulfilled the Old Covenant promises.
00:08:18.900 How His life and death and resurrection and ascension produced this cosmic shift from progressive societal fall to progressive societal flourishing. 0.61
00:08:33.700 That is so vital.
00:08:37.720 Now, it doesn't happen overnight.
00:08:40.720 It happens over the centuries.
00:08:44.200 And we're going to see that.
00:08:46.620 So today, my aim is to demonstrate how the Old Testament foretold victory for the New Testament era.
00:08:58.280 How Christ's first coming fulfilled those prophecies.
00:09:01.720 and how it should and ought to change the way you think and live.
00:09:09.180 Now, this is a massive topic, and I could reflect on the law,
00:09:12.080 I could reflect on the minor prophets, the major prophets, the Proverbs, the Psalms.
00:09:16.400 I mean, it was so difficult to just stick with something.
00:09:19.680 So I'm primarily going to focus on the words of Genesis.
00:09:25.460 And I'll pop around a little bit.
00:09:27.060 But I want to show how Christ is three things, three things, the promised serpent crusher, the promised nation saver, and the promised dominion taker.
00:09:47.420 Those three things we will see from the Old Testament to the New Testament. 0.55
00:09:51.980 and i'll tell you what christianity biblical christianity is a masculine religion okay
00:10:00.000 we have turned it into a very effeminate emotional religion in america that's why we've ejected the
00:10:07.440 vast majority of men but when you start to see who jesus is according to the scriptures man
00:10:13.320 warrior incredible powerful it pulls the men in and when the men come the women come and the
00:10:20.940 children to come. It is a wonderful thing to see the potency of who Jesus is. Now, I do want to
00:10:29.420 mention that I spent a lot of time studying a book called The Eschatology of Victory by Marcellus
00:10:35.180 Kick. Great book. Great book. Helped me a lot to think through some of this. And you can get a
00:10:42.880 copy of that if you'd like to get a copy, but it was a great resource for me in this sermon
00:10:46.320 in preparation. Number one, serpent crusher. Turn to Genesis chapter 3, 14 through 15.
00:11:04.200 So the Lord God said to the serpent, because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle
00:11:12.060 and more than every beast of the field on your belly you shall go and you shall eat dust
00:11:20.400 all the rest of your life and i will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed 0.91
00:11:29.540 and her seed he shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel okay this is the bible's 0.83
00:11:40.600 first promise of triumph. 0.71
00:11:45.240 The entire meta-narrative of the entire Bible
00:11:49.700 wraps around this promise.
00:11:55.620 Now this passage serves both as a curse
00:11:58.760 upon the devil and his seed, or his descendants, 0.98
00:12:04.380 and a declaration of victory to the woman
00:12:08.540 and her descendants, who, without getting into all the exegetical realities, is the people of God.
00:12:18.040 And so, this passage is often referred to as the Protoevangelium. It's the first gospel that we see
00:12:25.000 in the Bible. And it foreshadows the ultimate defeat of Satan, which comes through the seed
00:12:32.720 the woman which is specifically speaking of christ but also the people of god now contextually
00:12:41.800 this verse establishes this ongoing war this ongoing enmity between the forces of evil
00:12:51.700 and the people of god which culminates again in christ's victory over satan through his death and
00:12:58.340 resurrection. So this is kind of, again, first gospel foreshadowed in the Old Testament. It's
00:13:03.260 why Matthew took so much effort to highlight that genealogy that we always just kind of skip in
00:13:09.140 chapter one. He's retracing all of the genealogy back to Adam to prove that he's that guy.
00:13:20.060 Now, first, I want to point out that God says,
00:13:28.480 And you shall eat the dust all the days of your life.
00:13:36.380 He says this to Satan.
00:13:40.820 Now, again, this is a promise to defeat the serpent and his seed, his descendants, those people.
00:13:48.800 Remember when Jesus says, your father is the devil, speaking to the Pharisees. 0.97
00:13:53.900 Okay, there is a descendants of the devil.
00:13:58.120 In fact, through the Old Testament and even in the New Testament, we see this phrase used so many times of God conquering his people.
00:14:06.540 And he's talking about licking the dust.
00:14:09.520 We're going to see that. 0.73
00:14:11.280 Psalm 72 speaks of the Messiah's reign.
00:14:14.380 And it says, he shall have dominion also from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth.
00:14:24.080 Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before him and his enemies will lick the dust.
00:14:31.640 Micah 717. 0.94
00:14:34.140 And if you want to turn that you can for all you physical Bible people.
00:14:37.420 I know it's kind of hard to find the minor prophets.
00:14:39.800 But hey, Micah 717.
00:14:44.380 The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might.
00:14:49.660 They shall put their hand over their mouth.
00:14:53.260 Their ears shall be deaf. 0.99
00:14:55.240 They shall lick the dust like a serpent. 0.99
00:14:59.460 They shall crawl from their holes like snakes on the earth.
00:15:04.060 They shall be afraid of the Lord our God and shall fear because of you.
00:15:08.820 End quote.
00:15:09.120 Isaiah 49, 22-23
00:15:16.560 It's prophetically speaking to the people of God 1.00
00:15:23.000 This is not speaking to Israel, the ethnic group
00:15:28.440 This is speaking to Israel, the church, the true people of God
00:15:31.580 Those who are the children of Abraham, by faith
00:15:35.260 Isaiah 49
00:15:38.680 22-23. It says,
00:15:40.900 Behold, I will lift
00:15:42.920 my hand
00:15:43.840 in an oath to the nations.
00:15:48.000 By the way, this is
00:15:49.000 a beautiful verse. You almost
00:15:51.100 want to just go there and underline it because
00:15:52.980 it is a promise to you and your children.
00:15:56.320 Isaiah
00:15:56.800 49, 22-23.
00:15:59.200 Behold, I will lift my hand
00:16:00.820 in an oath to the nations and set
00:16:02.920 up my standard for the peoples. They
00:16:04.720 shall bring your sons in their 0.88
00:16:06.700 arms and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders. Kings shall be your nurturing fathers
00:16:14.100 and their queens, your nursing mothers. They shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth and 0.99
00:16:22.780 lick the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord for they shall not be ashamed
00:16:30.720 who wait for me.
00:16:34.260 Well, then we have also all the New Testament passages
00:16:36.620 of Jesus telling the disciples,
00:16:38.800 hey, if they don't accept the message of the cross
00:16:42.400 or the message of the gospel, the kingdom of God,
00:16:45.520 shake the dust of your feet off behind you.
00:16:52.920 Again, God promises the devil and his descendants
00:16:55.540 that they're going to eat dust.
00:16:56.960 This is a promise that is ultimately triumphed and fulfilled in Christ, but also in the church.
00:17:05.500 I want to explain this.
00:17:08.120 It's not just Christ defeating Satan.
00:17:11.960 It's also Seth over Cain. 0.66
00:17:17.760 It's Noah over his generation.
00:17:23.920 It's Isaac over Ishmael. 0.76
00:17:27.500 It's Jacob over Esau. 0.93
00:17:30.360 It's Joseph over Egypt. 0.72
00:17:33.100 It's Moses over Pharaoh. 0.51
00:17:36.180 It's David over Goliath or Saul.
00:17:39.200 It's this constant, ongoing, intense victory of the seed of God over the seed of serpents.
00:17:47.820 That's what you're seeing over and over and over.
00:17:53.180 And second, I want to look at God's statement,
00:18:01.020 He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise His heel.
00:18:07.880 Marcellus Kik said,
00:18:10.260 All the cunning and poison of the serpent, or of a snake, is in its head.
00:18:18.120 The crushing of it means the defeat of that cunning and that poison.
00:18:23.180 of the serpent. I love that catch there. This is another theme that's established in Genesis
00:18:34.040 and fulfilled not only in Christ, but also in the church. Let me give you a few examples.
00:18:40.300 I want you to turn to Luke chapter 10, 17 through 18. Luke chapter 10, 17 through 18.
00:18:54.040 Luke chapter 10, 17 through 18.
00:18:58.360 It says,
00:19:00.120 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying,
00:19:04.060 Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name.
00:19:11.080 And he said to them, pay attention here.
00:19:14.700 He said to them,
00:19:15.940 I saw Satan fall, past tense, like lightning from heaven.
00:19:20.440 Then, behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and over all the power of the enemy,
00:19:30.680 and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
00:19:35.480 Okay, so through the church's proclamation of the gospel, Satan falls from heaven to the dust of the earth.
00:19:46.560 Okay, that's the kind of imagery that you're trying to see here.
00:19:49.940 He's falling from heaven, from a high place to the dust of the earth, where God's people trample upon Satan and serpents.
00:19:58.920 Pay attention because this already happened. 0.74
00:20:01.580 Jesus is saying, I saw it happen.
00:20:04.780 Okay?
00:20:05.460 This is very important as it connects to Revelation later.
00:20:09.240 Romans 16, 18 through 20.
00:20:12.500 Flip to your New Testament.
00:20:13.700 Romans 16, 18 through 20.
00:20:19.940 Paul alludes to this kind of war between serpents and God's people.
00:20:28.880 He says,
00:20:29.500 Pay attention to the language here.
00:20:33.720 It almost sounds like he's talking about a snake.
00:20:36.020 But their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech,
00:20:40.300 they deceive the hearts of the simple.
00:20:43.360 This is kind of a characteristic of the deception of the serpent, right?
00:20:49.040 Verse 19,
00:20:49.940 For your obedience has become known to all.
00:20:53.160 Therefore, I am glad on your behalf, but I want you to be wise in what is good and simple concerning evil.
00:21:01.000 That's kind of an echo to be wise as serpents and soft as doves.
00:21:05.140 Okay, there's an element there.
00:21:06.880 And verse 20.
00:21:07.860 And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.
00:21:17.420 Shortly.
00:21:17.940 Not 2,000 years from now, not 4,000 years from now, shortly.
00:21:26.860 Whose feet is it getting crushed under?
00:21:29.780 The church's feet. 0.88
00:21:32.500 The bride of Christ.
00:21:37.640 Revelation 12, 9 through 12.
00:21:43.340 This is Revelation 12, 9 through 12.
00:21:47.940 This is speaking to the work of the cross.
00:21:53.520 It says,
00:21:55.120 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the devil and Satan,
00:22:01.920 who deceives the whole world.
00:22:04.820 He was cast to the earth.
00:22:06.520 Don't we remember that Jesus saw him being cast to the earth like lightning?
00:22:12.160 He was cast to the earth and his angels were cast out with him.
00:22:15.460 thrown to the dust just like jesus said in luke right verse 10 then i heard a loud voice in heaven
00:22:23.760 saying now salvation and strength and the kingdom of our god and the power of his christ have come
00:22:32.280 past tense for the accuser of our brethren who has accused them before our god day and night
00:22:40.360 has been cast down, again, to the dust in past tense.
00:22:46.200 Verse 11.
00:22:47.780 And they, people of God, overcame him by the blood of the Lamb
00:22:53.380 and the word of their testimony.
00:22:58.240 And they did not love their lives to the death.
00:23:05.800 Regarding the devil being cast down to earth,
00:23:08.440 marcellus kick says quote the earth is where the devil gained his initial victory over man
00:23:16.460 and it shall also be the scene of his defeat love that okay the people overcome the devil
00:23:24.960 by the blood of the lamb and the power of their testimony of the gospel that's a great weapon
00:23:34.340 that we have for overcoming the works
00:23:38.040 and I will say the remaining work
00:23:40.540 of the devil in this world.
00:23:44.900 Colossians 2.15
00:23:46.640 It says,
00:23:51.020 Having disarmed the principalities and powers,
00:23:54.900 past tense, 0.52
00:23:56.440 he made a public spectacle of them,
00:23:59.780 having triumphed, past tense,
00:24:01.620 over them through him.
00:24:04.340 John 12, 31, you guys don't need to follow along here.
00:24:06.840 It says, now the ruler of this world will be cast out, Jesus is saying in his ministry.
00:24:12.860 Hebrews 2, 14 through 15, that through death he might render powerless him who had, past tense, had the power of death, that is the devil,
00:24:24.440 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
00:24:30.360 1 John 3.8, the Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
00:24:36.560 Ephesians 1.23, and he put all things under his feet, past tense, as they are made his footstool.
00:24:46.180 Fulfilling the prophecy of this, what I'm saying here is this is fulfilling the prophecy of crushing the serpent's head
00:24:55.740 and establishing him as supreme authority overall.
00:24:59.960 I want you to look at this one more time.
00:25:01.620 Ephesians 1.23.
00:25:02.560 And he put all things under his feet.
00:25:05.400 So you're getting one side is that, yeah, everything's going to be under his feet
00:25:09.400 because he's ruler and authority of all.
00:25:12.040 But it's also a kind of a quick image call to the serpent under his foot as well.
00:25:18.100 All things under his feet.
00:25:22.180 Okay, when you hear all of these scriptures, when you hear all this victory,
00:25:25.340 all this past tense reality,
00:25:26.700 how can a person read those truths and i just gave you a small sample
00:25:34.820 and lead them to expect that satan's kingdom is now expanding and christ's kingdom is getting
00:25:42.020 smaller and smaller when a leader wins those who follow him do not prepare for failure they
00:25:52.000 prepare for victory. Like, why would we as Christians assume anything less than triumph
00:25:58.520 when Christ has already conquered? It's a very strange thing to be a defeatist in the church.
00:26:09.580 You see, the shift that must take place is this. The gospel is not a proclamation
00:26:16.900 of something to come.
00:26:20.700 It is a proclamation of something that came.
00:26:24.220 It is past tense.
00:26:27.180 Imagine you had two kingdoms
00:26:29.000 and one kingdom overtook the other kingdom.
00:26:33.860 But that kingdom might be large
00:26:36.320 and the war may have not been fought
00:26:38.400 in their particular area.
00:26:40.560 People from the winning kingdom
00:26:42.020 would need to go into that kingdom
00:26:44.100 and let people know for a thousand miles that they have been conquered and there is a new king.
00:26:50.460 That is basically what we're doing with the gospel.
00:26:56.240 Our job is to tell the world, the devil lost.
00:27:01.400 He lost.
00:27:03.980 There is a new king.
00:27:05.900 It is Jesus Christ.
00:27:07.120 And you can either bow or be cast out.
00:27:11.700 Those are your options.
00:27:14.300 That's a much more potent and powerful gospel message
00:27:17.780 than Jesus loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.
00:27:22.560 Yes, Jesus does love his people
00:27:25.340 and does have a wonderful plan for them.
00:27:29.100 But the truth is, you walk up and you go,
00:27:33.280 your ruler lost.
00:27:37.180 Let me tell you how he lost and when he lost.
00:27:40.440 And let me tell you who the new king is, King Jesus.
00:27:44.100 next i want to speak to jesus as the nation saver he is the great nation saver
00:27:53.960 by god's grace you'll become a christian nationalist after this section okay
00:27:59.920 genesis chapter 12 verse 3 it says i will bless those who bless you
00:28:05.140 and I will curse him who curses you
00:28:08.500 and in you all the families of the earth 0.94
00:28:14.400 will be blessed.
00:28:16.440 I love that he doesn't say all the individuals of the earth.
00:28:19.420 I love that God thinks in covenantal framework.
00:28:23.200 Genesis 12, 3.
00:28:25.180 And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.
00:28:29.780 Now outside of God's preservation of Noah,
00:28:32.060 Noah, this covenant with Abraham represents God's first major act of fulfilling that promise that he made to Eve of victory over the serpent.
00:28:47.860 This is kind of the first major act outside of, again, Noah being preserved.
00:28:54.900 God essentially says to Abraham,
00:28:57.700 through your seed, Abraham,
00:29:01.500 which includes both Jesus and all those who have faith,
00:29:05.660 who are the true sons of Abraham,
00:29:08.520 I will reverse the curse by trampling the serpent.
00:29:15.180 Through Christ and his people, all the earth shall be blessed.
00:29:20.400 That's basically the promise.
00:29:22.240 You want to know?
00:29:24.060 That we, as a congregation, are a blessing to this town.
00:29:28.040 You know why?
00:29:28.800 Because we uphold righteousness according to Jesus' righteousness and standards of morality.
00:29:34.940 This congregation and all the churches here in Prescott,
00:29:37.940 you want to know why this place isn't evil and wicked?
00:29:40.940 It's because God put his people here.
00:29:43.560 We are a blessing to this town.
00:29:46.560 You want to know how this town gets more blessed?
00:29:49.060 is more churches, more Christians, more people who love the Lord.
00:29:55.180 A great way to love your city is to make sure it's Christian.
00:30:01.060 To make sure it's Christian. 0.96
00:30:04.160 Remember that prior to Christ, so pre-New Testament, 0.97
00:30:11.080 outside of ethnic Israel, the nations of the earth 0.72
00:30:15.680 were under the worldly rule of the devil. 0.75
00:30:19.060 All the nations were deceived.
00:30:23.900 The Jebusites, you think they were following Jesus?
00:30:27.160 No, they were not. 0.98
00:30:32.300 They were all following their father, the devil.
00:30:37.960 It's why, turn to Matthew chapter 4, 8 and 9.
00:30:43.200 Matthew chapter 4, 8 through 9.
00:30:49.060 Matthew says,
00:31:01.040 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain
00:31:05.760 and showed him all the kingdoms of the world
00:31:09.560 and their glory.
00:31:14.760 And the devil said to him,
00:31:17.780 All these I will give to you, talking to Jesus, if you fall down and worship me.
00:31:26.760 So what we're seeing here is the devil is assuming power and authority over the nations.
00:31:35.840 Now, God prophetically tells us that those nations which were ruled by Satan will be given to King Jesus.
00:31:44.420 I want you to turn to Psalm 2.
00:31:47.780 Psalm 2.
00:31:53.200 I'll wait for you to get there.
00:32:02.800 It says,
00:32:03.620 Why do the nations rage?
00:32:09.400 And the people's plot in vain,
00:32:13.000 or the people's plot without usefulness.
00:32:17.780 The kings of the earth, they set themselves and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against his anointed,
00:32:26.140 saying, let us burst their bonds apart from us and cast away their cords from us.
00:32:35.500 He who sits in the heavens laughs.
00:32:39.480 The Lord holds them in derision.
00:32:43.480 Then he will speak to them in his wrath and terrify them in his fury, saying,
00:32:47.780 As for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy hill.
00:32:53.860 I will tell of the decree.
00:32:55.280 The Lord said to me, you are my son.
00:32:57.760 Today I have begotten you.
00:32:59.140 This is talking about his resurrection.
00:33:04.520 Ask of me and I will make the nations your inheritance.
00:33:10.680 God is saying to his son, ask of me and I will make the nations your inheritance.
00:33:17.780 and the ends of the earth your possession. 0.95
00:33:24.240 You shall break them with a rod of iron 0.96
00:33:26.640 and dash them into pieces like a potter's vessel. 0.98
00:33:30.720 Now therefore, O kings, be wise.
00:33:33.680 Be warned, O rulers of the earth.
00:33:37.840 Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling.
00:33:41.660 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in the way.
00:33:47.120 For his wrath is quickly kindled.
00:33:49.340 Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.
00:33:59.600 This is also what makes Christ, who bound the strong men.
00:34:09.080 Do you guys remember in the Gospels?
00:34:10.280 He said that he's binding, he's the strong man binding Satan.
00:34:15.800 I want you to turn with me if you can.
00:34:18.100 Matthew chapter 12.
00:34:19.780 Matthew chapter 12, verses 28 through 29.
00:34:23.040 Matthew chapter 12, 28 through 29.
00:34:31.680 Jesus says, but if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons,
00:34:35.220 then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
00:34:38.940 There's that presence of the kingdom.
00:34:42.100 But then he asks a question.
00:34:45.800 How can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods unless he first binds the strong man?
00:34:55.320 Then indeed, he may plunder his house.
00:34:59.780 Jesus, through the cross, plunders Satan's house.
00:35:05.120 What is Satan's house? What's his domain? It's the nations.
00:35:08.640 He takes what was his. I'm going to plunder your house. I'm going to take those nations from you. 0.98
00:35:14.140 He's the great nation saver.
00:35:17.260 Luke chapter 11, 21 through 22.
00:35:20.340 It's the same story, but from Luke's perspective.
00:35:23.200 It says, when a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe.
00:35:28.200 But when one stronger than he attacks him and overcomes him,
00:35:33.080 he takes away his armor in which he trusted and then divides his spoil.
00:35:39.120 Jesus is dividing
00:35:43.720 the spoil of Satan
00:35:44.680 he's taken the nations
00:35:47.060 I'm taking that one and that one 1.00
00:35:49.400 and that one's mine
00:35:50.580 John chapter 12 verses 31 to 32
00:35:55.580 now is the judgment of this world
00:35:57.480 now the ruler of this world
00:35:59.660 will be cast out and when I
00:36:01.680 am lifted up from the earth speaking of
00:36:03.660 his ascension I will draw
00:36:05.440 all people
00:36:06.420 not just Israel, ethnic Israel
00:36:10.380 I will draw all people to myself
00:36:14.000 that is a declaration that Jesus is saying
00:36:17.100 all those nations, I'm about to draw them to me
00:36:21.640 which makes the great commission
00:36:25.040 a little bit more interesting
00:36:27.740 turn to Matthew chapter 28
00:36:30.500 18 through 20
00:36:33.060 last chapter of Matthew
00:36:38.420 and Jesus came and spoke to them
00:36:50.580 saying all
00:36:53.180 authority
00:36:54.460 has been given to me
00:36:56.980 in heaven and
00:36:59.240 on earth past tense
00:37:00.460 just sit on that for a second all authority on earth is jesus's he is sovereign over the
00:37:09.540 authority on which happens in the earth verse 19 he says go therefore and make disciples 0.95
00:37:16.900 of all nations you have to understand how insanely shocking this is to a jewish culture 0.73
00:37:24.660 wait what
00:37:26.800 it's not just us anymore
00:37:31.000 you're saying that you're not just
00:37:33.580 the savior of
00:37:35.360 the Jews but you're the savior
00:37:36.840 of the whole world
00:37:38.860 yes go get
00:37:41.480 those nations Jesus says
00:37:43.380 they're mine 0.59
00:37:44.320 he says baptize them
00:37:46.780 in fact if you look at the word
00:37:49.580 them which is the
00:37:51.340 antecedent to them
00:37:52.560 is the nations
00:37:55.140 There is no other object or pronoun to make that work.
00:38:03.000 The them has to be the nations.
00:38:07.000 Baptizing the nations in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
00:38:10.980 Teaching them, those nations, to observe all that I have commanded to you.
00:38:17.360 And lo, I am with you always.
00:38:21.220 Even to the end of the age.
00:38:23.420 Huh.
00:38:25.280 There's an age that we're in right now.
00:38:28.200 I was speaking to that through our partial preterism.
00:38:33.840 The end of that old covenant age.
00:38:38.760 On the cross, Jesus stripped away the authority from Satan to deceive the nations.
00:38:44.340 That's what happened.
00:38:47.820 Satan has been bound.
00:38:49.800 He's done.
00:38:51.460 Is there still an influence?
00:38:52.800 Is there still some degree of power that is left?
00:38:56.580 Certainly.
00:38:57.300 There's the flesh.
00:38:58.040 There's the world.
00:38:58.940 There's some sort of element around the demonic realm.
00:39:03.980 But his ability to have ultimate control and authority over all of the nations is gone.
00:39:11.440 The nations are now Christ.
00:39:13.580 He has all the authority.
00:39:15.140 And he has, through the cross, triumphed over the devil.
00:39:17.560 and now is plundering his house through the proclamation of the gospel by the church. 0.60
00:39:25.500 You know what I know what a missionary is? 0.85
00:39:27.900 He's a plunderer. 0.99
00:39:30.460 He's walking into a nation and he's stealing people through conversion from the devil. 0.79
00:39:38.700 That's how Christ conquers people, through conversion.
00:39:42.480 You were an enemy of the cross.
00:39:44.920 How did he conquer you?
00:39:46.480 Through conversion.
00:39:47.560 the authority that was lost
00:39:55.480 in the garden
00:39:56.580 God gave the authority to Adam
00:39:59.020 the authority 0.93
00:40:01.060 was taken
00:40:02.420 by Satan
00:40:04.560 he ruled
00:40:07.080 and dominated 0.98
00:40:08.140 Jesus comes in as the second Adam 0.98
00:40:11.460 reclaims the authority 0.98
00:40:13.140 that was lost in the first Adam
00:40:14.520 it's why revelation 11 15 says the kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our lord
00:40:23.620 and god and his christ and he shall reign forever and ever that's the state that we're in right now
00:40:30.920 we're not waiting for that to happen that's right now the kingdom of the world has become
00:40:39.080 the kingdom of our Lord and his Christ
00:40:42.840 and he shall reign forever and ever.
00:40:48.200 So Jesus tells his church,
00:40:49.980 go get the nations.
00:40:51.020 They're mine.
00:40:54.000 Let's progressively march through
00:40:56.140 and let people know who took the victory.
00:41:00.900 Teach them to obey all that I've commanded.
00:41:02.860 And you know what?
00:41:03.720 I'll be with you the entire time.
00:41:07.420 That's the great commission.
00:41:09.080 So again, I ask you, how can we see this great transfer of power, grasp the sovereignty of God over history, see the defeat of the devil and the influence that he had over the nations that he no longer has today, and the ultimate victory of the cross?
00:41:28.280 how can we see all of that
00:41:29.700 and go yeah you know what
00:41:32.460 Satan's kingdom is going to get bigger
00:41:34.360 and bigger and bigger
00:41:35.780 and Jesus' kingdom is going to get smaller
00:41:38.080 and smaller and smaller
00:41:39.480 what are you not reading your Bible
00:41:41.980 it makes no sense
00:41:46.040 no you're reading your Bible
00:41:49.540 through a dispensational pessimistic
00:41:51.960 defeatist view that has set the church
00:41:54.520 on its trajectory for the last
00:41:56.360 hundred years and is why we have lost
00:41:58.320 cultural ground in just about every
00:42:00.260 possible category in America.
00:42:03.180 When you think you're going to lose
00:42:04.600 you will.
00:42:09.160 Has not history
00:42:10.300 already proved that claim to be false
00:42:12.260 anyways?
00:42:14.600 Which kingdom is expanding?
00:42:17.340 Seriously, think about it just for a
00:42:18.480 second. The church
00:42:20.020 at the time of the New Testament
00:42:21.700 made up less than 1%
00:42:24.080 of the population of the world which was
00:42:26.280 150 million people today the church and by the way that was limited to just one nation
00:42:34.260 today the church makes up now 37 percent of 8.2 billion people on the earth and has believers
00:42:42.420 in all 195 countries and you're going to sit here and say yeah the kingdom of satan is getting
00:42:49.560 bigger, and Jesus' kingdom
00:42:51.620 is getting smaller. No!
00:42:54.000 It has no logical
00:42:55.860 support.
00:42:58.880 You're just
00:42:59.560 being myopic. You're looking at your situation
00:43:01.540 this big, and you're going, look how bad it is
00:43:03.480 right now. Zoom out!
00:43:06.600 And you quickly
00:43:07.520 start to see, oh yeah,
00:43:09.220 over the centuries, Christ
00:43:11.120 is conquering the world.
00:43:19.560 And lastly, and quickly, I'm going to speak to the last part.
00:43:23.920 The dominion taker.
00:43:25.760 Christ is the dominion taker.
00:43:32.220 Genesis 1.28. Go there now.
00:43:34.940 Genesis 1.28.
00:43:36.020 it said then god blessed them and god said to them be fruitful and multiply
00:43:53.800 fill the earth and subdue it have dominion over the fish of the sea of the birds of the air and
00:44:01.320 everything living that moves on the earth okay this is referred to as the dominion mandate or
00:44:08.420 the cultural mandate uh in theology circles at least and as we know adam fell and failed
00:44:15.860 to accomplish this dominion mandate he failed to accomplish this in fact instead of multiplying
00:44:22.720 fruitfulness he multiplied fallenness that's what he did okay everybody born of adam was born
00:44:30.820 separated from God, had the sin of Adam, needed to be rescued.
00:44:34.680 The only person not born of Adam, after Adam, was Jesus, who was born
00:44:38.940 of the Holy Spirit. He did not have the original sin of Adam, and is the reason that he was
00:44:42.900 born sinless, and makes him a perfect Savior.
00:44:47.700 Now, as we know,
00:44:50.800 Jesus is called the second Adam. He is the second Son of
00:44:54.960 Man. He is the second Man of God.
00:44:57.520 Romans 5
00:45:01.960 chapter 4 or Romans 5 verses 14
00:45:04.000 through 19
00:45:04.560 I did a whole series of sermons
00:45:07.860 through this but Romans 5 says
00:45:09.880 yet death reigned from Adam to Moses
00:45:11.700 and even over those whose sinning was not like 0.78
00:45:13.800 the transgression of the first Adam 0.97
00:45:15.340 who was a type of the one
00:45:17.960 to come speaking of Jesus
00:45:19.720 for if many died through
00:45:21.740 one man's trespass much more
00:45:23.820 have the grace of God of the free gift
00:45:26.020 of that one man, Jesus Christ, abounded
00:45:28.080 for many. For as by the one man's
00:45:30.300 disobedience, Adam, the many 0.84
00:45:32.140 were made sinners. So by
00:45:34.100 the one man's obedience, Jesus,
00:45:36.060 the many will be made righteous, end quote.
00:45:39.740 1 Corinthians 15, 21-22
00:45:41.940 it says, For as by a man came
00:45:44.140 death, by a man also comes
00:45:46.260 the resurrection of the dead. For as
00:45:48.060 in Adam all die, so in Christ 0.64
00:45:50.360 all shall be made alive.
00:45:53.500 1 Corinthians
00:45:54.300 15.45. Thus it is written, the first man, Adam, became a living being. The last Adam
00:45:59.640 became a life-giving spirit. Jesus is the second Adam. It is like a point that we can't 0.58
00:46:05.240 even, we don't have to argue about. Everybody agrees. Jesus is the second Adam. So what
00:46:10.080 am I saying? The second Adam with his wife, the church, is accomplishing what the first 0.96
00:46:19.120 Adam and his wife failed to do. That's what I'm
00:46:23.060 saying. This includes
00:46:26.840 being fruitful and multiplying and filling the earth
00:46:31.200 and taking dominion over the world. It includes
00:46:35.280 that. Through Christ and the church
00:46:39.340 they're not giving physical birth
00:46:41.160 but what are they doing? Giving spiritual birth
00:46:47.220 to billions.
00:46:50.780 Yes, it comes from Christ,
00:46:52.940 but how is the message of the gospel ever preached?
00:46:56.600 Through the church.
00:46:59.320 By the power of Christ,
00:47:01.520 through the body of Christ,
00:47:02.700 through the proclamation of the church,
00:47:05.140 we see Jesus replicating his image in the earth.
00:47:13.480 In fact, my primary reason
00:47:15.600 well I'll say this
00:47:18.900 my primary reason for post-millennialism
00:47:24.140 for holding that position is that I believe
00:47:26.700 that the resurrection of Christ
00:47:30.440 is more powerful than the fall of Adam
00:47:33.360 if I had to sum up my entire
00:47:36.420 theology into a short statement I would say that I believe that the
00:47:40.160 resurrection of Christ is more powerful more effective
00:47:43.500 more effectual, more transformative than the fall of Adam.
00:47:48.540 I believe that Christ will outperform Adam.
00:47:54.780 Don't you?
00:47:57.300 Don't you believe that he will outdo and outpace the work of the fall?
00:48:03.260 That's what's happening in the New Testament.
00:48:06.080 That's the era, the age that we live in right now.
00:48:11.100 That has been the great narrative of Scripture.
00:48:14.780 It's been creation and fall and promise and then redemption and then restoration.
00:48:21.520 We're in the restoration phase.
00:48:29.340 After the cross and the resurrection and the ascension and the end of the old covenant age in 70 AD,
00:48:34.740 God created
00:48:37.540 and this is again using prophetic language
00:48:41.540 God created a new heavens and a new earth
00:48:44.640 a new world, a new world order
00:48:46.560 I'll say that
00:48:47.440 when Jesus says the new heavens and new earth
00:48:49.660 there's an element of an inaugurated kingdom
00:48:53.940 and there is a consummated kingdom
00:48:56.960 the inaugurated kingdom is that it has begun
00:48:59.840 but it's not perfected until it's consummated
00:49:03.600 where Christ returns at his final, his second coming, and consummates it.
00:49:07.860 But there's an inauguration, and then there's a consummation.
00:49:11.420 But there is a new created heaven and earth in the sense that there is a new world order
00:49:16.300 that has occurred after there's been new life that's come from the grave.
00:49:20.820 It is a new world order.
00:49:24.720 And he is a new king with all authority.
00:49:27.560 And yes, again, we wait for that consummation where there's the ultimate purification,
00:49:31.620 where there is no more sin, where there is no more death.
00:49:34.520 We're waiting for that.
00:49:35.880 But we are in the inaugural period of the kingdom of God.
00:49:42.220 Now, I want to read a passage of scripture.
00:49:44.660 I'm going to close with this.
00:49:46.160 This is my closing passage of scripture.
00:49:48.840 This is the kind of scripture that you should just get printed out
00:49:51.460 and put on your wall and frame it.
00:49:54.400 It's the kind of scripture that should give your entire family
00:49:57.500 and all of your generations hope.
00:49:59.340 it's the kind of scripture that you could memorize
00:50:01.680 and love and think about
00:50:04.000 and ponder for the rest of your life
00:50:06.020 it's Isaiah 65
00:50:10.320 17 through 25
00:50:13.060 Isaiah 65
00:50:15.160 17 through 25
00:50:17.920 and it speaks
00:50:19.640 of this hope
00:50:23.080 and it's speaking of a hope
00:50:26.920 prior to the consummation.
00:50:29.880 You need to catch that.
00:50:32.060 It's speaking to hope prior to the consummation
00:50:34.160 because you're going to see
00:50:35.080 that it's speaking of a generation and a time
00:50:37.980 where people are still dying.
00:50:40.500 This isn't speaking about after Jesus comes back
00:50:43.100 and abolishes death.
00:50:43.980 It's speaking about a time
00:50:45.420 where there is still death on the earth.
00:50:51.100 Isaiah 65, 17-25.
00:50:54.580 It says,
00:50:55.380 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth.
00:51:01.160 And the former thing shall not be remembered or come to mind.
00:51:05.580 Okay, this, I believe, happened in the ascension of Christ.
00:51:09.320 He's created a new heavens and a new world order.
00:51:13.080 Verse 18.
00:51:14.460 But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create.
00:51:19.360 For behold, I create Jerusalem.
00:51:21.780 Prophetic language for the kingdom.
00:51:23.160 to be a joy and her people the church to be a gladness verse 19 i will rejoice in jerusalem
00:51:30.340 and be glad in my people no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress
00:51:37.120 this is something that will come in the future is what he says i will rejoice verse 20 no more
00:51:43.060 shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days or an old man who does not fill out his days
00:51:52.260 For the young man shall die a hundred years old.
00:51:56.740 Think about that. 0.95
00:51:58.140 For a young man shall die at a hundred years old.
00:52:02.500 And the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed. 0.76
00:52:06.460 This is speaking of a time, again, prior to the elimination of death. 0.95
00:52:10.560 Verse 21.
00:52:11.700 They shall build houses and inhabit them.
00:52:14.780 They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 0.71
00:52:17.400 They shall not build and another inhabit.
00:52:21.700 and they shall not plant and another eat.
00:52:25.100 For like the days of a tree,
00:52:27.520 the days of my people will be
00:52:29.580 and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
00:52:33.720 Pine trees, by the way, live for 100 to 1,000 years.
00:52:37.920 Verse 23,
00:52:39.060 they shall not labor in vain
00:52:41.160 or bear children for calamity. 1.00
00:52:43.700 Again, people are still having babies here.
00:52:45.220 For they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the Lord
00:52:48.220 and their descendants with them.
00:52:50.420 Speaking covenantally,
00:52:51.380 Before they call, I will answer.
00:52:54.140 When they are yet speaking, I will hear them.
00:52:57.940 The wolf and the lamb shall graze together.
00:53:01.180 The lion shall eat straw like the ox.
00:53:04.060 And the dust shall be the serpent's food.
00:53:08.520 They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, says the Lord.
00:53:14.020 That is an amazing vision for a future that either Isaiah is lying or we can stand on.
00:53:28.760 There will be a time where a young man is said to have died at a hundred.
00:53:34.100 Huh.
00:53:34.600 we shouldn't be expecting defeat but greater and greater triumph as the generations pass
00:53:46.320 i have hope for my great great grandchildren
00:53:50.760 is it still going to be a fight certainly is it still going to be a war against sin in the flesh
00:53:57.020 certainly i'm not saying that it's going to be without trial and struggle i'm saying that over
00:54:03.340 the centuries, according
00:54:05.640 to the narrative of Scripture,
00:54:07.380 based off the kingdom of Christ, through the
00:54:09.500 proclamation of the gospel, that the
00:54:11.540 world will get
00:54:13.600 better.
00:54:16.640 Amen?
00:54:18.280 Amen.
00:54:19.400 Let's pray.
00:54:24.960 Father,
00:54:25.680 we thank you. We thank you, Lord,
00:54:28.360 that you
00:54:31.760 have continued
00:54:32.520 to build your kingdom.
00:54:35.300 And Lord, if you have placed us
00:54:36.920 at this particular time
00:54:38.300 in this entire inauguration process.
00:54:44.220 Lord, we pray for our children
00:54:45.700 and our grandchildren
00:54:46.540 and our great-grandchildren
00:54:47.560 and all of our descendants past.
00:54:50.640 Lord, that you would use the work
00:54:52.200 that we do here
00:54:53.080 to spur them on to good works.
00:54:58.260 That you would redeem our children
00:54:59.920 and our descendants
00:55:01.220 and that you would continue to build your kingdom
00:55:03.760 and that we will look back on this incredible epic
00:55:07.400 of how your son conquers the world
00:55:11.620 over thousands of years.
00:55:15.560 But we ask that you'd give us a vision,
00:55:18.060 a comprehension,
00:55:19.480 give us the scriptures,
00:55:21.060 give us the conversations.
00:55:22.680 Let our church be united
00:55:23.740 under this great, beautiful mystery
00:55:25.800 of your kingdom.
00:55:27.520 In Jesus' name, amen.
00:55:31.220 Thank you.
