Not that long ago, it was embarrassing to live on government assistance. It demonstrated that you were a net drain on your own people. Now people are posting and bragging about it online, treating government checks like it's a success when it's really a failure. And so the state has essentially stepped in and taken over the god-given roles of family and church, removing shame from dependency and and essentially giving men, especially Black men, a perverse incentive to abandon their children knowing that the government will play daddy in their absence.
