00:03:53.140 people that want his attention yep he tries to squeeze as much life out of life see most people
00:03:59.780 freestyle their day and they wonder why they don't get anything done they literally don't put
00:04:03.940 anything in the calendar because that way it feels more freeing but the truth is is sometimes
00:04:07.540 constraint creates freedom. Knowing what I got to get done and doing those as early as possible in
00:04:13.040 the morning means that I feel free for the rest of the day. A goal without a plan is just a wish.
00:04:18.660 So many people say, I have this goal this year to make a million dollars. I'm like, what's the plan?
00:04:22.000 If you can't back out your goal into weekly and daily actions and activities that make that goal
00:04:29.180 inevitable, then it's just a wish. Everybody wants to be successful, but success is where preparation

00:05:14.860 cadence. I used to travel 200 days a year. My schedule was packed, but the truth is it wasn't
00:05:21.740 efficient. I used to think that because I was busy, I was being productive. Couldn't have been further
00:05:26.480 from the truth what i realize now is my life is a marathon not a sprint because if you sprint and
00:05:31.840 then fall and sprint and then fall you're actually not making as much progress if you just set up
00:05:36.640 your life to be this ongoing never stopping marathon success is not achieved in bursts
00:05:43.520 people that do that to themselves in many ways it's self-sabotaging behavior they burst into
00:05:48.080 new opportunities instead of saying okay what could i commit to every day that sustained effort over
00:05:54.080 time that on that back end of that would make my goals and my dreams inevitable. Like they would
00:05:58.860 just have to happen. So what did I change in regards to my travel? First off, one trip per
00:06:03.440 month, maximum seven days away from my family. Because I have that constraint and I have that
00:06:09.040 rhythm, I'm very diligent about what goes into those seven days. I'm talking to people, I'm
00:06:14.020 coordinating, I'm reprioritizing because that is the one shot I have on goal for FaceTime with
00:06:19.540 people i batch all my speaking my podcast my founder's dinners my events my book meetups
00:06:25.300 all of it into as little time as possible and when i land in a city i make sure i take it over
00:06:31.460 i see all the people i want to see i do all the things i need to see including the fun stuff like
00:06:35.620 going to a comedy show but i make it part of the rhythm so it's sustainable over the long run

00:07:36.300 number four, which is curate connections. I first learned this strategy reading a book called Never
00:07:41.100 Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi. He talked about the idea of getting people together to break bread.
00:07:46.680 And I'll tell you, as an introverted programmer, when I started, there was no way I was going to
00:07:51.020 do this. What value could I give them? I had so little self-confidence that I convinced myself
00:07:56.180 out of it for so long until I finally did it. And I remember my first is with a guy named Larry in
00:08:01.520 that meal it was just him and i i felt all this pressure but at the end of it i thought to myself
00:08:06.620 that was the most valuable two hours in a long time i learned a lot about the industry i learned
00:08:12.280 a lot about myself i realized i didn't have to talk that much i just had to ask really good
00:08:15.880 questions so now i always host either founder lunches founder dinners founders hikes but
00:08:21.300 connection for me is so valuable because you can't get away from in person and goes guess what i
