00:00:00.000 What's up everybody, it's Dan here and today I want to talk about how to get
00:00:04.500 anything you want in life. Sounds crazy, trust me this is not a get rich quick
00:00:09.960 scheme but it's this really simple technique that I've been using to be
00:00:14.640 able to approach anybody, get investors, business partnerships, hire amazing
00:00:20.100 world-class employees and I was recently talking to my friend about he was trying
00:00:24.120 to hire CEO for his business and he asked me my thoughts on how I should
00:00:27.840 approach it? Should I hire a recruiter, an executive recruiter? And I walked him through
00:00:31.920 this process and he was like, wow, I've never heard anybody explain it like this. You got
00:00:37.260 to tell people. So this is what I'm doing today and it's called Ask for Advice, Get
00:00:41.980 Anything. You may have heard the quote that says, ask for money, get advice. Ask for advice,
00:00:48.160 get money. This applies to everything from recruiting to partnerships to key employees.
00:00:54.340 So the way I look at it is no matter who I'm trying to engage with, the best approach, the best circumstance or situation that I could kind of kick off a new relationship with that person is to get their thoughts on something.
00:01:08.500 And it doesn't matter if I'm trying to hire them or raise money or whatever.
00:01:13.220 You want to get the scenario that somebody introduced us, I'm reaching out to get advice on this really interesting challenge that I'm working on and I'd love to get your thoughts.
00:01:21.600 everybody loves to give their advice. I mean, look at me here doing this. It's the thing that people
00:01:27.980 love. So, you know, if I'm trying to recruit somebody that's amazing, I'll say, hey, I'm
00:01:32.940 working on this really interesting role or this challenge in our business. I heard you're one of
00:01:37.380 the best people in the world. A friend of mine recommended you. Do you mind spending 15 minutes
00:01:41.420 on a phone call to kind of talk through my thoughts on how I would approach this problem?
00:01:45.960 Now, when you're on that phone call, you're trying to get them engaged with the problem.
00:01:50.960 So, explain to them where you're going.
00:01:53.200 Explain to them the business.
00:01:55.020 It's your chance to tell them what you're working on and try to get them committed, involved, excited.
00:02:00.220 And if you do things right, a magical thing will happen.
00:02:03.400 You can kind of feel where they start giving their two cents, their thoughts, and they kind of, they start to get committed to the idea.
00:02:10.920 And once they get committed to it, then that's when you've got them.
00:02:14.500 Now, it's not a deceitful approach.
00:02:17.040 It's really just the best way to build a relationship.
00:02:19.120 I've had people do it to me.
00:02:20.380 I've known when they're doing it to me.
00:02:22.900 And I'm okay with it because I like the way that that kicks things off in a relationship.
00:02:27.380 So once you've got their advice, then they're committed to seeing that through.
00:02:31.460 You go off.
00:02:32.260 You take that advice.
00:02:33.260 You execute on it.
00:02:34.720 Circle back.
00:02:35.980 Talk to them about the new challenges.
00:02:37.580 What did you learn?
00:02:38.640 And then just maybe over time you might say like, hey, this is something that interests you.
00:02:42.960 Maybe you can help me with it.
00:02:44.500 and get them going a little bit.
00:02:46.540 I feel like too many people,
00:02:47.700 especially when it comes to recruiting,
00:02:49.560 they're always trying to go from dating to married.
00:02:52.660 And my approach, it takes a lot longer,
00:02:54.560 but I feel like the quality of candidates
00:02:57.240 that end up inside of our company are super high.
00:03:00.540 It reduces the amount of challenges
00:03:02.260 I have to deal with if I make a bad hire.
00:03:04.500 And it just creates the right foundation
00:03:07.280 for that relationship so that there's no surprises
00:03:10.200 when you start working with that person.
00:03:11.600 So my thoughts are ask for money, get advice.
00:03:14.340 ask for advice, get money.
00:03:15.480 This applies to everything.
00:03:16.960 You wanna hire somebody, ask for advice.
00:03:19.040 You wanna partnership with somebody, ask for advice.
00:03:22.160 You want anything, ask for advice.
00:03:27.360 Anyways, that's my two cents on that strategy.
00:03:30.380 Every week I shoot these videos,
00:03:31.980 so I'll see you next Monday,
00:03:33.740 but before you go, please leave me a comment below.
00:03:36.780 Let me know what the biggest takeaway was from this.
00:03:38.860 Let me know what you wanna hear from me.
