00:00:00.000 Modern life is a f***ing disease. If you woke up tomorrow and you had a hundred supercars sitting 0.98
00:00:05.540 there but every person you love was gone, you would trade it in a heartbeat to have them back. 0.76
00:00:10.700 The gurus out there will tell you how to f***ing grind. Technically that's not bad advice. There
00:00:15.660 are seasons in your life where you have to show up and you have to attack. The disease is when
00:00:20.560 that season turns into a year that turns into two and then this becomes the norm. You're gonna wake
00:00:25.920 up in 10 years and realize nothing's changed i know this because i got there built the business
00:00:30.960 hit the number and looked around at life and realized in every direction it wasn't working
00:00:36.320 and then i looked at people at the highest level the richest people people like gary v who absolutely
00:00:42.280 puts in the time but shows up for his family and cares about the people in his life people like
00:00:47.120 jesse itzler who is literally a grown camp counselor everything he does he makes it fun
00:00:53.880 mark cuban billionaire courtside at every one of his mavericks games living the best life they're
00:01:00.120 richer than every guru that tells you to grind and grind and grind and they're having way more fun
00:01:05.720 than all of them because the people that are winning the biggest are the ones growing in
00:01:10.120 every part of their life not just their bank account and i felt this myself the faster i grew
00:01:15.480 every other pillar of my life the faster my business and the bank account grew too that's
00:01:19.960 That's why today I'm going to show you exactly how to make sure every part of your life keeps 0.94
00:01:23.640 growing so you never end up rich but f***ing miserable.
00:01:26.940 To me, there's seven pillars and the first one isn't about the business or the money. 0.90
00:01:31.680 I know that because it's the first place that everybody starts and it's the first symptom
00:01:36.400 of modern day life disease because when the money is the reason, you quit the second it
00:01:42.020 doesn't show up or it gets hard.
00:01:43.860 So we need to start with the one that helps us decide if we want to get out of bed or
00:01:48.160 not.
00:01:48.900 After exiting, not one, not two, but three companies.
00:01:53.380 And anybody in my life would have said, Dan, you've won.
00:01:55.760 And yet, I felt like there was a massive hole.
00:01:58.480 There was something missing.
00:01:59.700 So I reached out to a friend who I knew could help, and I went to Peru.
00:02:03.520 And here I was, traveling around visiting orphanages,
00:02:07.380 hiking through the mountains, contemplating on big life questions,
00:02:11.380 and then spending three days reflecting in silence
00:02:14.680 around what this whole thing meant.
00:02:16.480 It would have been easy for me to think about the next business to start, the investments I want to make, how I was going to create more.
00:02:23.800 And the question that cracked me wide open was the one asking me, who do you want to help avoid or get through the pain faster?
00:02:33.620 Because it's not about the things.
00:02:35.940 If it was about the stuff, then I wouldn't have this like feeling inside, this emptiness.
00:02:40.940 and that's when I realized and I gave myself permission because it wasn't easy
00:02:44.740 to make the decision to help at-risk youth that was my story that was my journey that was my pain
00:02:51.880 the moment I made the decision and I wrote it down on paper my whole being shifted only 10 years ago
00:02:58.700 nobody knew the story of my addiction my teenage years the challenges that I went through as a kid
00:03:04.260 and now if you meet me and talk to me for five or six or ten minutes I'm gonna share that with you
00:03:09.840 because it's what's made me.
00:03:12.680 I'm here to help every young person not feel broken.
00:03:16.120 You might know me as a guy that's gonna teach you
00:03:17.640 how to make money or have a lot of followers
00:03:19.420 on social media, but I'm telling you,
00:03:21.120 that's just the by-product of what I just said. 0.98
00:03:24.040 And when shit gets hard and I don't wanna get up 0.95
00:03:26.660 and I'm like, why am I dealing with this problem yet again? 0.98
00:03:29.920 It's not about me.
00:03:31.460 It's about the example that I get to be
00:03:33.760 for the kids that are paying attention.
00:03:35.820 The moment I stopped making it about myself
00:03:37.840 and started making it about other people,
00:03:39.360 the bank account, the life, the resources, they all showed up. A lot of people have goals and
00:03:45.320 they have targets, but what they don't have is they don't have a mission behind those goals and
00:03:49.680 targets. So every time I give a talk, book, meet up, hang out in public, somebody puts their hand
00:03:55.440 up and they ask the question, Dan, how do I find out my mission? How do I figure out my purpose?
00:04:01.380 And my answer is the same one every time. And it's the who test. What is the wound
00:04:07.360 that you're willing to share because I believe your purpose sits right next to the worst thing
00:04:15.980 that's ever happened to you in your life if you have the courage to evaluate this it will change
00:04:21.880 your life the H is the human who do you want to help and give yourself permission to be specific 0.59
00:04:29.040 for a large part of my life I just had people incarcerated and I went to Pelican Bay and I went
00:04:34.680 to San Quentin. And unfortunately, I just don't resonate with the adults. The kids, on the other
00:04:40.000 hand, when I went and spoke to the detention centers and the crisis centers, and I'm talking
00:04:43.820 to these kids that are looking with pain in their eye. And I know they didn't have somebody like me
00:04:53.420 in their life. And that the whole reason I'm there is that maybe I could get through to them in this
00:04:59.120 moment. That to me is why I do what I do, is I know because of what I went through, that wound,
00:05:04.680 It gives me the ability to reach them.
00:05:08.660 And for you, it might be people that are struggling with their weight
00:05:12.100 or women that have been in abusive relationships.
00:05:14.600 I don't know what it is.
00:05:16.860 My gut tells me, you know.
00:05:18.860 And if you can give yourself permission to share your story around that,
00:05:24.260 to lean into that, to name that, that is a powerful step.
00:05:32.200 And the third, the O is the outcome.
00:05:34.120 what's the outcome you want to help them get what is that transformation did you know that your mess
00:05:40.360 is your message and the outcome of helping somebody feel seen and confident and that you
00:05:46.160 believe in them that could be the thing that changes their life forever but you have to be
00:05:51.520 specific like what is that outcome you want to help them get and look if you read that out loud
00:05:57.500 you should have a sentence that connects all three that feels deeply connected to your mission
00:06:03.560 For me, it's helping young people not feel broken.
00:06:07.080 Our whole purpose, being here on Earth, enjoying this human experience,
00:06:11.520 is to become the person we needed most in our darkest days.
00:06:15.000 Pillar two is the one that everybody says they'll get to next week, next month, next year.
00:06:21.100 I do it the other way around.
00:06:22.780 It's the one thing I take care of first thing every single day.
00:06:26.300 And it's the one thing everyone winning at the highest level protects the most.
00:06:31.340 This one I struggled with for a big part of my life.
00:06:34.680 I was a millionaire on stages,
00:06:36.740 speaking, telling everybody how to be successful.
00:06:38.900 And yet every once in a while,
00:06:40.380 I would see a clip of a video or a photo posted on Twitter
00:06:43.640 and go, oh, who is that?
00:06:47.480 I was fat.
00:06:48.920 I lied to myself.
00:06:50.580 I would be tired all the time.
00:06:52.680 I didn't have the energy to go long.
00:06:54.620 I would sleep in.
00:06:55.980 And yet I thought it was okay.
00:06:57.540 And then I had kids.
00:06:58.740 And that just made it even harder.
00:07:00.840 And luckily I had friends in my life that looked at me and said, Hey bro, not a good look. Now you
00:07:06.900 might hear that and go, what the kind of friend would say that to you? I'm telling you, I needed
00:07:10.860 that. That person in that moment was the best friend I needed. Not somebody that was just going
00:07:16.220 to agree with everything. And then I went on a journey. I started writing down that I'm going
00:07:20.880 to be an Ironman. I started moving my body a little bit, not like a half marathon. I'm talking
00:07:26.860 a 5K was a big deal, but I just kept at it. Not only did I know it was important for my mental
00:07:32.360 health because I felt like a fraud, but it actually allowed me to show up more powerfully.
00:07:37.580 It gave me the confidence to speak up in a meeting, to ask for what I'm worth. The person
00:07:42.480 that's sitting here talking to you right now, I want you to hear this. I built this person and
00:07:47.280 the way I did it was by prioritizing my health. Today, I've done seven or eight Ironmans,
00:07:53.700 ultra marathons, competitions all the time.
00:07:57.200 I stay at about nine to 10% body fat.
00:07:59.280 And then in regards to the bank account,
00:08:01.500 it's grown in proportion to my energy levels,
00:08:04.400 to prioritizing my fitness.
00:08:06.200 Now I'm better for my team, for my kids, for my wife.
00:08:10.580 At the highest level,
00:08:11.820 you will see somebody that takes their health seriously.
00:08:14.840 The way I think about it, it's SMS.
00:08:18.420 First, sweat every day.
00:08:19.980 Every day, 45 minutes minimum, must break a sweat.
00:08:23.220 If that's a walk, put a weight vest on.
00:08:25.400 If that's a CrossFit workout, treadmill, incline.
00:08:28.640 If you can win the morning, you will win the day.
00:08:31.560 And look, I know life gets busy, but guess what?
00:08:34.420 Just make a rule, never miss two days in a row.
00:08:36.760 It's okay if you gotta get up early and catch a flight
00:08:38.600 and you skip it and you didn't get a chance to do it,
00:08:40.440 just never two days in a row because now you have a trend.
00:08:43.540 The second M is the meals.
00:08:44.920 The idea is we wanna remove the friction.
00:08:47.800 The amount of brain power used to decide
00:08:51.540 what you're gonna eat for breakfast.
00:08:53.220 What are you going to eat for lunch?
00:08:54.140 What are you going to eat for dinner?
00:08:54.900 Because you go out with your friends.
00:08:56.080 How about we just take all those hard decisions and we take them off the plate?
00:08:59.260 Pun intended.
00:09:00.280 If you want to make a lot of money, then learn how to make the hard decisions easy and the
00:09:05.200 easy decisions hard.
00:09:06.800 For example, I have an addiction to peanut butter.
00:09:09.540 I love it.
00:09:10.140 I would eat, you know, what would you eat for the rest of your life on a private island?
00:09:13.320 Peanut butter.
00:09:14.140 So guess what's not in my house?
00:09:15.540 Peanut butter.
00:09:16.000 If I want peanut butter, I got to get in my car, drive to the corner store and buy myself
00:09:21.380 an O. Henry peanut butter.
00:09:22.420 Now I do have them when I train.
00:09:24.300 This is my favorite part about doing long bike rides
00:09:26.300 is I need some calories
00:09:27.460 and those are the calories that go in my mouth.
00:09:29.520 And on the other side of the coin,
00:09:30.900 just like most people, I don't love chicken and rice,
00:09:34.060 but that's why I have my meal prep set up
00:09:36.340 so that I have exactly what I want,
00:09:37.940 some lean ground beef, some sweet potatoes,
00:09:40.680 some greens, some low calorie hot sauce.
00:09:42.720 And I eat this every day.
00:09:44.800 I have it for lunch and dinner.
00:09:46.440 I don't think about it.
00:09:47.520 I don't confuse myself about it.
00:09:49.180 And if I'm going to a restaurant,
00:09:50.640 I have my assistant pre-order what's on the menu,
00:09:53.940 put it in the calendar invite.
00:09:55.000 So when they say, what are you having?
00:09:56.060 I open it up, I read, I don't make a decision.
00:09:58.860 I wanna make things easy to do.
00:10:00.840 I don't wanna make them hard.
00:10:02.200 For you, it might just be automating your food.
00:10:04.440 Stop buying snacks.
00:10:05.640 Don't go to the grocery store when you're hungry.
00:10:07.860 Find a local meal prep company.
00:10:09.480 If you look at the amount of time
00:10:10.560 it takes you to make the food,
00:10:12.120 it actually almost works out to the same price.
00:10:14.480 It's better, it's packaged, and it saves you a ton of time.
00:10:17.700 And the third is sleep.
00:10:19.160 see, most people go, Dan, what time do you wake up? I say 4 a.m. They go, oh my God, that's so early.
00:10:24.600 Not impressive if you know what time I go to bed. What time do you go to bed? 9 p.m. Really? Yep.
00:10:30.960 Guess what? I set an alarm for going to bed. I don't set an alarm for waking up. I naturally
00:10:35.860 wake up at 4 a.m. because I've been doing it for like a decade. The alarm to go to bed that goes
00:10:41.000 off at 8.30 every night, that's the reminder to start shutting things down, to wind down, to get
00:10:46.360 ready. And I have kids that go to bed later than me. That's okay. The whole point is that sleep
00:10:52.040 is probably one of the most important things to have the energy to allow your body to recover,
00:10:57.420 to make sure the food gets processed properly. And if you can't creatively think, it's probably
00:11:02.640 because you're not getting enough sleep. Pillar three, this is the one that everybody takes for
00:11:08.400 granted. It ends up being the thing people regret not prioritizing more than anything else.
00:11:12.800 as a parent with money you think that the best thing I do for my kids is show them cool things
00:11:19.120 and fly around and have experiences yet I remember this one time when the kids were young we're
00:11:23.780 flying on a private plane we're going to do something fun and the whole time I'm on my phone
00:11:28.040 and I remember looking over and watching my son and he had asked me three times to play with them
00:11:32.340 and yet I didn't even hear him now I could have blamed the sound of the plane but it wasn't that
00:11:36.940 I literally was involved in my work and here I am thinking I'm winning at life when my kids 0.97
00:11:42.100 looking at me and he doesn't give a fuck about the plane. He doesn't care where we're going. 0.94
00:11:47.020 He doesn't care about Disneyland. All he cared about is that his dad played with him. That's
00:11:52.720 when I realized all the stuff that we think that our kids want and our way of showing them affection
00:11:58.240 to get that love, what they really want is time. I heard this once and I love it. That love is
00:12:04.120 spelled T-I-M-E. So if you tell me you love me, where you at bro? Time's the most valuable thing
00:12:10.400 we have than when I show up for my family, for my friends. That is proof that I care about them.
00:12:16.940 We all say that we're working our ass off for our family. We're doing it for them. We're showing up
00:12:22.540 to create a future that we never experienced, that we want to provide for them. Here's a question.
00:12:29.340 Have they asked you for that? In my book, I close with this story because it was so jarring.
00:12:34.860 This guy tells me, he goes, hey, Dan, I heard you speak and I got to tell you, man, I feel horrible.
00:12:39.640 And I said, why?
00:12:40.420 He goes, I haven't seen my kids in three years.
00:12:42.320 He goes, look, I see them obviously on weekends,
00:12:44.540 but for the last three years, I get up before they wake up.
00:12:48.200 I come home after they go to bed.
00:12:50.000 And for the last three years,
00:12:51.500 because of decisions I made in my business,
00:12:53.220 I haven't seen my kids.
00:12:55.160 And you made me realize for what?
00:12:57.460 So that I can feel good about myself
00:12:59.260 to people that I don't even like? 0.95
00:13:01.380 So that I can tell myself that I'm killing it
00:13:04.300 and yet I don't get those years back?
00:13:06.640 Sometimes the people closest to you
00:13:08.360 get the worst version of you.
00:13:10.340 You're nicer to the stranger you just met in a boardroom 0.51
00:13:13.380 than you are to your family on the weekends.
00:13:16.280 So the system that I use to make sure
00:13:17.900 that I don't drop the ball
00:13:19.240 and that all the important stuff is there
00:13:21.280 is called the preloaded year.
00:13:22.880 I got it from my buddy Taki.
00:13:24.160 It is so powerful to ensure you plan the right things
00:13:28.240 in the right order and you see it all in one spot.
00:13:31.120 And it's something that I do with my wife
00:13:32.680 at the end of the year for the following year.
00:13:34.940 And we review it all the time
00:13:36.580 to make sure the big stuff's in there.
00:13:38.000 And what's unique about it is I do it backwards
00:13:40.080 than what most people do.
00:13:41.260 Most people put the work stuff in their calendar.
00:13:43.500 I load the people first, the anniversaries,
00:13:46.680 the birthdays, the quarterly trips with my wife,
00:13:49.760 the things that I know if I literally had a month to live,
00:13:53.560 these are the things I would wanna do.
00:13:55.300 You don't know when your last day
00:13:56.300 is gonna be your last day, so put those in first.
00:13:59.700 Those are priority.
00:14:01.080 And then the work stuff takes care of itself.
00:14:03.080 And look, if you want help, I've got a PDF template
00:14:05.240 that you can load up on an iPad or you can print it off.
00:14:07.700 You can highlight the dates, you can put it in,
00:14:09.560 you can see it on one page
00:14:10.780 and I have it for the next three years, so you're sorted.
00:14:14.080 So if you want it, just find me on Instagram,
00:14:16.060 follow me and DM me the word YouTube year
00:14:18.440 and I'll send it over for free.
00:14:19.840 It'll change the way you use time to show your love
00:14:22.320 for the people you care about the most.
00:14:24.280 Pillar four is the easiest place
00:14:26.680 to catch the modern life disease
00:14:28.840 because it's the endless grind, the money chase, 1.00
00:14:31.900 the burnout, that shit's contagious 0.99
00:14:34.080 and the people in your life might be the reason. 0.99
00:14:37.080 When I was 17 in rehab, one of the most powerful things they asked us to do is called a transition plan.
00:14:42.960 Essentially, sit down and decide who are we going to spend time with when we get out and we want to make sure we're making better decisions.
00:14:49.760 Who are the people that are going to influence us?
00:14:51.780 Because if we go back and do the same thing with the same people we're doing with it, zero chance we're going to stay sober.
00:14:57.240 And that plan is the reason why I'm here today.
00:14:59.640 I realized that I became the byproduct of the people I spend the most time with.
00:15:03.560 And I went away from spending time with people that were addicted and negative and critical
00:15:08.740 and always getting in fights.
00:15:10.160 And it was almost like drama followed them everywhere as they went to people that were
00:15:13.680 into sports, that were eating healthy, enjoying life more than the other ones, but just not
00:15:20.320 doing things that were illegal.
00:15:22.180 Crazy.
00:15:22.800 I know.
00:15:23.600 Be careful who you call a friend.
00:15:25.260 Just because you sat next to somebody in 11th grade English class does not mean they're
00:15:29.440 a friend.
00:15:29.900 You know them, but ask yourself what a great friend does.
00:15:32.980 Look at the people you actually call friends
00:15:34.620 and say, are they doing those things?
00:15:36.380 You wanna hang out with people
00:15:37.580 that want more for you than from you.
00:15:40.340 I talk about this all the time.
00:15:41.760 I used it yesterday.
00:15:43.220 I call this a friendventory.
00:15:45.380 So do this tonight.
00:15:47.080 Take the time to write it down.
00:15:48.560 First thing, you have to list everyone
00:15:50.060 you've given real time to in the last 90 days.
00:15:53.120 Then ask yourself a simple question.
00:15:54.960 Is that person pushing me to grow
00:15:57.780 in every part of my life?
00:15:59.300 Or are they keeping me stuck?
00:16:01.200 are they making me feel bad about myself are they encouraging me to do things that i know aren't good
00:16:06.420 for me be honest with yourself these are the people you might say that like look they're fine
00:16:10.980 they're my family they're always like that it's not a big deal the person might be fine they may
00:16:16.120 not mean to hurt you but seeding that idea pushing you to be rude to somebody hey you shouldn't call
00:16:22.040 them back they don't deserve you or always complaining right these are the people that it's
00:16:26.500 like as soon as you say hi to them they're like hey did you see what's on the news no don't watch
00:16:30.420 it don't wanna why is that the first thing you always have to tell me once you have that list
00:16:35.980 and you identify the people that are pushing you in areas of your life and they're always trying
00:16:40.440 to expand and grow then you have to spend less time with the people that are pulling you down
00:16:45.660 I call that creating space and it's as easy as not being so quick to reply to them and then try to
00:16:51.740 spend more time with the people that are doing it right and look tomorrow I'm jumping on a plane
00:16:56.020 flying an hour driving for two hours to go celebrate a friend that's doing something crazy
00:17:00.040 with his time right now a big challenge and i want him to see me there to cheer him on even if it's
00:17:05.560 for two hours so that he knows that i value our friendship our relationship because he's also
00:17:11.000 somebody that i admire that pushes himself and is an example for me as a father as a business person
00:17:17.160 that's because i made this list and i prioritize it at the beginning of the year i always ask
00:17:20.920 myself who are two or three people that i should be spending more time with and then i just
00:17:24.360 prioritize it i put them in the preloaded year and look the people you're going to spend less time
00:17:28.520 they don't need like a whole speech.
00:17:30.300 You don't have to like break up with them.
00:17:32.180 You can just say to yourself,
00:17:34.580 I gotta spend less time with them.
00:17:36.080 And if you don't have anybody else to hang with,
00:17:38.900 go out, go to the run clubs, go to the events,
00:17:42.080 go to the local seminars, go to the meetups.
00:17:44.880 They're happening in your city.
00:17:46.180 For the fifth pillar, I wanna ask you a question.
00:17:50.620 When's the last time you did something purely for fun?
00:17:55.280 I'm talking no agenda.
00:17:57.280 I'm talking because it made you smile.
00:18:00.700 Not for networking, not for business, just for fun.
00:18:04.900 You're like, I think it would be fun
00:18:06.420 to rent a bunch of cars and go on a road trip
00:18:09.180 or get some camping gear and go up into the mountains.
00:18:12.140 Maybe my definition of fun is different than yours,
00:18:14.300 but I think life is about being enjoyed.
00:18:17.940 And I think that people that are very successful
00:18:20.420 like to be around people that have fun.
00:18:22.800 That's why like a lot of people that I know
00:18:25.040 that are incredibly wealthy,
00:18:26.080 you see them at festivals. You see them enjoying themselves. You see them dancing on the dance
00:18:30.320 floor. They don't take themselves too seriously. And look, this is crazy. But when I was 31,
00:18:36.360 I go see my doctor friend. He's like, what's going on? I said, I've got this like pain on
00:18:40.660 my back. It was like a bruised area, but it's a little like there's a skin thing. And I don't
00:18:44.600 know what it is, like a rash. He leaves the room. He comes back and he goes, here's some pills. I
00:18:49.840 said, what's that for? He goes, shingles. I said, what shingles? He said, Dan, it's a really good
00:18:55.560 thing, you came in to see me. And then he pulls up a picture of what it could have looked like.
00:19:00.260 My whole back following my nerve system would have broken out into this scaly, shingly, I guess
00:19:06.000 probably why they call them shingles, response. And it was my body stressed out. And the reason
00:19:13.160 why is I was so stuck up. I was so driven. I didn't have fun. I didn't let myself let loose.
00:19:19.140 my body was telling me. Since that moment, okay, I'm 46 now, I will tell you, kind of been cured
00:19:26.000 of that problem. I prioritize my hobbies. I prioritize the fun. I organize the fun. I
00:19:32.160 schedule the fun. I show up and make it fun. It has been the biggest game changer. And again,
00:19:37.940 the business followed. The money showed up. The relationships, the quality of people I get to
00:19:44.140 spend time with. I mean, it's wild. People are like, hey, man, I saw you speak at Tony Robbins.
00:19:48.640 hey man, I saw that The Rock follows you on Instagram.
00:19:51.240 How did you get John Maxwell
00:19:52.300 to write the forward of your next book?
00:19:54.200 It's because people see that I'm a well-rounded person,
00:19:58.520 because I have fun, because I'm not single purpose.
00:20:01.940 It's not transactional.
00:20:03.800 So to me, hobbies are an investment in your business
00:20:06.100 and these are the three Fs that I follow
00:20:07.720 to make sure they're happening.
00:20:09.040 The first F, is it fun?
00:20:11.000 If you don't wanna do it, if you're not excited to do it,
00:20:13.820 if you don't smile when you think about doing it,
00:20:15.960 probably not fun, you're allowed to say no.
00:20:18.740 The second F is frequent.
00:20:20.860 If it's fun, how about you do it more often?
00:20:24.220 Do it more frequently.
00:20:25.600 Doing it once a year is cool,
00:20:27.320 but it's not as fun as doing it once a month.
00:20:29.640 The hike I do every Tuesday,
00:20:31.400 everybody in the world is invited.
00:20:32.960 You're invited.
00:20:33.800 I've been doing it for five years.
00:20:35.640 It's super fun.
00:20:36.740 Great way for me to get a workout,
00:20:38.240 meet some new people.
00:20:39.200 It's every week, every Tuesday, same time.
00:20:42.880 Schedule it.
00:20:43.700 And the third is friends.
00:20:45.920 See, if you woke up tomorrow,
00:20:47.940 and you had a hundred supercars sitting there,
00:20:50.220 but every person you love was gone,
00:20:52.320 you would trade it in a heartbeat to have them back.
00:20:55.000 You'd probably want a room full of people,
00:20:58.300 people that you've impacted, people that you've supported,
00:21:01.400 people that you care about.
00:21:02.860 To me, that is what we're trying to do.
00:21:05.100 We're trying to invest in people
00:21:06.660 and collect great friends and create moments.
00:21:10.240 You know, my buddy Brad has this great saying,
00:21:11.720 he says, we're here to do the three M's,
00:21:13.920 make magical memories
00:21:15.320 and increase them in intensity and frequency.
00:21:18.380 That's the kind of friend you want.
00:21:20.160 That's who I spend time with.
00:21:21.580 You can see how like these pillars,
00:21:23.400 they just start pouring into each other.
00:21:25.260 They start compounding upon each other.
00:21:27.280 They start flowing.
00:21:28.860 So yes, you're making money,
00:21:30.120 but you're also not dealing with a crisis at home.
00:21:32.720 You're not worried about the fact you're going on vacation
00:21:34.980 and you won't take your shirt off.
00:21:36.200 You're not worried about the fact
00:21:37.700 that you just bought a new supercar
00:21:39.040 and you have nobody to call to celebrate with.
00:21:41.140 You're not worried that you might get shingles on your back.
00:21:43.160 pillar six is the one that most business people skip completely i'd argue it's the most important
00:21:50.920 one on the list because it's the reason you can have everything i just talked about and all the
00:21:55.860 money in the world and still feel empty i wrote a book called buy back your time my happy place is
00:22:01.620 being wildly productive scheduling every five every 15 minutes producing creating the checklist
00:22:08.840 the sops it's what drove every part of my life i was really efficient at getting things done
00:22:15.720 i didn't know how to be in the moment i didn't understand the power of here i had to read the
00:22:23.000 text the the books the philosophies because it didn't matter how much doing i was doing
00:22:30.600 if i wasn't being then i couldn't feel it what's crazy today is a couple dozen times a day
00:22:38.840 even while I've been sitting here talking with you,
00:22:41.700 I've actually taken a moment to just,
00:22:44.400 just like drop in.
00:22:49.300 And it's allowed me to be present.
00:22:52.520 You know, when people see me coach,
00:22:54.320 they go, where did that come from, Dan?
00:22:55.900 I say, I know where it came from.
00:22:58.940 It's connected.
00:23:00.120 It's why I wake up in the morning
00:23:01.740 and I create early in the morning
00:23:03.160 because I'm connected to my creator.
00:23:05.080 Having faith, my spiritual beliefs,
00:23:08.840 has been the most powerful thing that I've brought,
00:23:12.580 if you want to call it to business,
00:23:14.680 I call it to creation,
00:23:16.520 then everything I've talked about.
00:23:18.940 And I actually find it fascinating when I ask people
00:23:21.580 if they have faith and they go,
00:23:23.140 sure, I'm a Christian, sure, I'm a Buddhist,
00:23:25.400 sure, I'm a Muslim, sure, I'm whatever religion.
00:23:28.200 And I go, why don't you bring it to your work?
00:23:31.580 In the heat of the craziest going on in your life,
00:23:34.960 I'm telling you, if you have faith,
00:23:36.840 you can find the calmness.
00:23:39.800 Most pain is self-inflicted, but when you have God, faith, spirituality on your side, it's an option.
00:23:50.400 Here are three things that I like to do that really helps me connect to my faith.
00:23:54.940 First thing, write down three things you're grateful for every morning.
00:23:59.320 There's an incredible journal called the 5-Minute Journal.
00:24:01.640 It's got a bunch of other practices.
00:24:03.180 I give those away like candy.
00:24:05.300 Go buy one.
00:24:06.020 It'll be a great guide to help you with this.
00:24:08.840 My rule is, is one of those things
00:24:10.760 have to be something completely ordinary.
00:24:12.820 Like the fact that there's dirt
00:24:14.200 holding this mountain in place
00:24:15.740 or that when you breathe, you can breathe the air
00:24:17.980 and there's enough oxygen to actually feed your body.
00:24:21.260 It has to be so mundane.
00:24:22.500 I do this with my kids.
00:24:23.520 It's one of my favorite things that I do with them.
00:24:25.060 It's like, hey, let's do some gratitude.
00:24:26.500 I want to hear something that is just wildly simplistic,
00:24:29.260 but yet is so powerful if you actually think about it.
00:24:32.520 Then take that list and sit with it for 60 seconds.
00:24:37.280 you might feel like you gotta get work done
00:24:40.200 and that to-do list is just gonna sit there
00:24:41.960 and stare at you
00:24:42.820 let it be
00:24:44.920 I think gratitude is the best cure for anxiety
00:24:48.020 that I've ever found
00:24:49.300 you can't be grateful and upset at the same time
00:24:52.200 impossible
00:24:52.900 and look, pillar 7
00:24:54.660 this is the one that everybody else out there
00:24:57.160 is starting with
00:24:57.960 but I put it last on purpose
00:25:00.120 and it's not because it's the least important
00:25:02.040 but every story I've shared with you
00:25:04.120 pours into this one
00:25:05.600 I have a completely different perspective. I don't believe you make money. I think you attract money.
00:25:12.880 You bring opportunities, resources into your life. How? By doing what we just talked about,
00:25:19.720 by becoming somebody who can attract those opportunities. The reason why wealthy people
00:25:25.020 are wealthy is because they develop themselves. They develop their habits. They develop their
00:25:29.960 character traits. They develop their skills. They develop their productivity. They do more work
00:25:35.420 on themselves than they do in the work.
00:25:39.040 Figuring out your next funnel, yes, will have to happen. 0.99
00:25:42.860 Realizing that not being an asshole to your team 0.99
00:25:45.300 has to be there or nobody's gonna work with you. 0.98
00:25:48.460 Nobody's gonna refer people to you.
00:25:49.940 Nobody's gonna suggest work with this agency
00:25:51.640 if they crush it for us because they're like,
00:25:53.060 I don't even like this guy.
00:25:54.380 You don't create money.
00:25:56.060 You attract money by being somebody who is attractive
00:25:59.020 to other people in the world.
00:26:01.180 Through your character, through your love,
00:26:03.420 through your time, through your prioritization,
00:26:05.420 through doing interesting stuff,
00:26:07.320 like having hobbies makes you interesting.
00:26:10.580 Does that make sense?
00:26:12.040 People think that it's about working hard.
00:26:14.500 I'm saying work hard on you.
00:26:17.120 The money will always follow.
00:26:19.460 And look, this modern life disease is just prioritizing
00:26:22.380 like money, money, money, hustle, create, do more.
00:26:25.900 You'll be valuable when you have a million dollars
00:26:28.100 in your bank account, when you're making 10K a month.
00:26:30.080 Trust me, you need to be valuable
00:26:32.220 before the money ever shows up.
00:26:33.920 which came first me having a million dollar mindset or a million dollar in my bank account
00:26:38.520 so like the way I manage all the finances and the money part of my life is a thing I do every day
00:26:44.240 and I call it the daily cash report every morning I get a report across all my accounts personal and
00:26:50.720 business to tell me financially what is the heartbeat of my life because what you measure
00:26:56.400 multiplies and most people don't want to know what their number is nobody wants to know how
00:27:01.080 their business is doing. And they think that they're doing fine. And they haven't seen that
00:27:04.260 a big wire got sent out and that they're not going to be able to make payroll. So then I get this
00:27:07.960 report. I try to figure out what am I going to do with that money? How do I deploy it? Once I've
00:27:12.280 made those decisions, then I move on with my day. I don't let the money control me. The money is a
00:27:18.340 tool. It's a resource. Knowing what it is, is good. And that's the important part. What is this money
00:27:25.060 buying. Because if it's just more people or more things, that's not freedom. If it's your time
00:27:32.580 back, if it's to support your mission, if it's to invest in the people you love, that's valuable. 0.87
00:27:39.620 If the answer is just to make the number bigger, what the f***? That is the disease we're talking 0.96
00:27:45.600 about. Every Sunday, I sit down and I score myself on these seven pillars. One out of five. Mission,
00:27:52.920 Am I doing work every week
00:27:54.380 to help young people not feel broken?
00:27:56.640 Health, am I prioritizing my health?
00:27:58.520 Am I eating right?
00:27:59.360 Am I training hard?
00:28:00.520 Health has to be there.
00:28:01.560 Love, have I shown the people that I love
00:28:04.380 that I care about them with my time?
00:28:06.920 My friends, same thing.
00:28:08.620 Am I investing in relationships?
00:28:10.360 Am I doing a friendventory?
00:28:11.440 Am I being honest about how people are showing up for me?
00:28:14.420 Hobbies, what am I doing?
00:28:16.140 Am I mountain biking?
00:28:17.160 Did I skip this week?
00:28:18.260 Did I go wake surfing?
00:28:20.500 Spirituality, am I connecting
00:28:22.300 with my creator? Am I slowing down? Am I using gratitude to appreciate everything I have in my
00:28:27.760 life? And then finances. Am I understanding how money flows into my life and what I use it to
00:28:34.020 invest in, not just buy stuff? So then I circle the two lowest scores and I make a commitment to
00:28:40.100 two actions I can take next week to improve them. That is the game. It's in my calendar. I score it
00:28:46.180 on a spreadsheet. I copy paste it every year. I've been doing it for over a decade. If you do that
00:28:52.060 last part you're basically avoiding any opportunity for the rest of your life for things to go wrong
00:28:57.260 because you can't go a long period of time without adjusting if i haven't gone on date night this
00:29:02.060 week my love score might be low i'm gonna schedule that date night if i haven't seen my friends in a
00:29:07.000 while because i've been in a season where i've been like heads down i'm gonna fix that see how
00:29:11.940 this works it's how we make sure nothing goes to zero this disease was never about working hard
00:29:17.920 there are seasons when you have to push and you have to create and you got to set a foundation
00:29:22.600 for the rest of it you just have to make sure that that season doesn't turn into the norm the
00:29:28.040 whole point is that in 10 years you're going to look back at this time and it's going to compound
00:29:32.120 and you're going to have to reflect you're going to ask yourself was it a life well lived and i
00:29:37.560 think the reason why i shared this with you is because a great life is a life well examined
00:29:41.560 and using these tools to examine different areas of your life is going to set you up so just leave
00:29:46.900 me a comment below and let me know which part of your life do you feel you have to put more time
00:29:51.620 into is it love is it hobbies is it finances you tell me below in the comments and remember
