Flaawsome Talk with Kjersti Flaa - Hollywood's had enough of Ryan Reynolds

00:00:00.000 It's interesting how Ryan Reynolds has become even more unpopular than his wife Blake Lively right now.

00:00:11.780 Hi and welcome to Flossom Talk. I'm Tashli Flohr, journalist, Hollywood truth teller,

00:00:16.120 and your voice of reason in a town built on delusion.

00:00:20.100 Okay, is Ryan Reynolds becoming more unpopular than his wife Blake Lively?

00:00:25.680 It kind of looks like it right now.

00:00:27.720 and let's look at this project that Ryan was attached to for years and then in the middle

00:00:34.440 of the It Ends With Us drama that project was acquired by Sony. Let's look at what really

00:00:41.220 happened there. Also I watched Mayday so you don't have to trust me. Let's look at some of the reviews

00:00:48.520 for the movie and especially how the critics and the media is feeling about Ryan right now. Also

00:00:53.640 if you're wondering why mainstream media is dying, let's look at this article in Homes and Gardens

00:00:59.880 about Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' bathroom. Talking about narcissism. Why would anyone do

00:01:07.840 this to a child? We have to talk about Northwest. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's daughter who is

00:01:15.700 now 13 years old and who had her first concert. This is just truly disturbing. Okay, so let's get

00:01:24.460 into it. So as I said, it's interesting how Ryan Reynolds has become even more unpopular than his

00:01:31.420 wife Blake Lively right now. And of course, that is also due to the fact that he's out there

00:01:35.980 promoting a new movie. So he puts himself in a position where he easily is a target. And some

00:01:42.420 people I'm thinking about the smarter journalists here are trying to lay traps for him so that they

00:01:47.980 can create rage bait content to get engagement for their sites then you have all their tiny

00:01:54.360 small little outlets that are allowed to sit and interview Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh

00:01:59.680 because the studio trusts them and because they know they're only going to say glowing things

00:02:06.860 about them so of course they're not going to invite people who are actually critical of Ryan

00:02:11.220 Reynolds to do an interview with him but even putting all of that into consideration people

00:02:16.780 have still managed to find things that he said in interviews and use it against him like this

00:02:22.940 enormous backlash that he received for saying that the 80s were brutal basically saying that

00:02:29.380 he declared war on nostalgia I mean I do think that is a bit ridiculous why people would get

00:02:36.500 so upset about that and why the media will blow it up. They would never do that if Kenneth Branagh

00:02:43.960 said that. And that's the important thing to remember. Everyone is just watching every move

00:02:49.480 that Ryan Reynolds makes and everything that he says, and they're ready to jump on him. And it

00:02:55.980 doesn't help that his movie was not great. As I said, I watched it. I found it very unamusing. I

00:03:02.940 didn't laugh once Kenneth Branagh did a great job and Ryan Reynolds played Ryan Reynolds as he always

00:03:09.620 does and I do have to admit that I find it hard to watch him to begin with but the fact that he's

00:03:15.000 also so predictable makes it just like a complete waste of time which is something that this review

00:03:20.480 in the Daily Beast pointed out thanks Peter for sending me this by the way so listen to this

00:03:25.600 headline Oscar winning legend humiliates himself with Ryan Reynolds what is Kenneth Branagh doing

00:03:32.500 in this painfully unfunny comedy.

00:03:36.000 Very well said.

00:03:37.420 That's exactly what I was wondering too.

00:03:40.260 And then the critic here is asking himself

00:03:42.180 why he thinks this movie is so bad.

00:03:44.840 And he's asking this,

00:03:46.820 is it, it's absurd and off-putting Cold War politics

00:03:51.780 which posit the US as not as great as I think it is 0.59

00:03:57.100 and the Soviet Union as better

00:03:59.340 than it was portrayed stateside?

00:04:01.140 or is it the fact that one of our greatest Shakespearean actors

00:04:05.860 has stooped to the Ryan Reynolds unfortunate level?

00:04:11.060 I think it's the latter.

00:04:13.200 And then the critics continues to say,

00:04:15.360 without a single witty moment to alleviate its perfectory,

00:04:19.400 all by well-staged centerpieces and boasting a story rife 0.73

00:04:24.140 with laughable USA, USSR equivocations,

00:04:27.860 It's a mirthless mess whose ideas about the 1980s international relations are almost as

00:04:34.640 lousy as the incessant one-liners spouted by Reynolds, who reconfirms that outside of

00:04:42.080 the Deadpool franchise, this sarcastic shtick only works in small doses.

00:04:48.920 Yes, it's gotten 81% approval on the Tomatometer.

00:04:54.200 Who knows who these critics are, by the way?

00:04:56.020 Are they the ones that were invited to do interviews with Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Brana?

00:05:02.320 The ones that never ask any critical questions?

00:05:05.440 Although I have to say that 81% doesn't mean that 81% of critics liked it.

00:05:10.340 It just means that 81% of them would classify it as a fresh or had like some positive opinion about it.

00:05:18.900 It has a 67% on the popcorn meter,

00:05:22.400 meaning that the general public doesn't really like this movie.

00:05:27.120 But when you look at the reviews,

00:05:29.360 most of them were saying that Kenneth Branagh's performance stole the movie

00:05:33.140 and that Ryan was just delivering his familiar sarcastic persona.

00:05:38.280 Anyways, it doesn't matter if the critics likes the movie

00:05:40.700 or if the general public likes it, as long as they watch it.

00:05:44.960 That's what counts.

00:05:46.260 And of course, every time Apple releases a new movie and pushes it like this with a premiere and with press junkets,

00:05:54.740 of course, people are going to be curious to watch it.

00:05:57.720 So, of course, it's going to be on the best, on the most watched list on Apple TV.

00:06:02.820 Even if a movie makes money with Ryan Reynolds, do people still want to work with him?

00:06:08.100 So let's look at what happened here.

00:06:09.980 Thank you, Shauna, for sending me this.

00:06:11.960 I did not know about this.

00:06:13.600 This is interesting.

00:06:14.420 So she told me that she noticed the movie Clue had disappeared from Ryan Reynolds' IMDb.

00:06:22.060 He was attached to this project with Jason Bateman.

00:06:26.200 So I looked into what actually happened with this movie, and this is quite fascinating stuff.

00:06:33.200 So as you might know, Ryan Reynolds and his production and marketing company, Maximum Effort,

00:06:37.940 signed a three-year first look deal with 20th Century Fox in January of 2018.

00:06:47.080 And Clue was one of the projects under that deal.

00:06:51.240 Ryan was expected to star in it and to produce it.

00:06:54.780 And he brought two of his Deadpool collaborators on,

00:06:58.980 Rhett Reese and Paul Warnick, who wrote the screenplay for this movie.

00:07:03.560 Then in 2019, it was reported that Jason Bateman was attached to the project.

00:07:10.340 He was going to direct and possibly co-star in it with Ryan Reynolds.

00:07:15.580 Then later that year, he said that there was a scheduling conflict

00:07:18.720 with this movie and another season of Ozark.

00:07:22.880 Ozark, this TV show, great show, by the way, was airing from 2017 to 2021.

00:07:29.260 It was interesting that Jason Bateman didn't know at that time

00:07:33.180 when he signed up for this movie that there would be some scheduling conflicts there but

00:07:38.480 anyway so then Jason Bateman said I'm out then in 2020 they found another director James Bobin

00:07:46.580 who was then attached to the projects then according to sources things got complicated

00:07:53.240 when Disney took over Fox in 2021 Ryan Reynolds said that he wasn't sure if it was happening

00:08:01.600 anymore. But in August of 2022, this project was technically still alive. Then Aura Nozeal was

00:08:09.800 hired to do a rewrite. So remember Ryan brought on his two Deadpool writers for this, but I guess

00:08:16.620 that was just scrapped. Then Deadline did a story about it back then, saying Aura Nozeal stepping

00:08:22.940 into write Ryan Reynolds' Clue movie at 20th Century Studios. Then nothing happened for two

00:08:30.380 years then by early 2024 Hasbro who owned the IP for Clue for the board game Clue regained control

00:08:42.100 of the screen rights and then they started shopping it around to other studios and then

00:08:48.300 in April of 2024 Sony TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television acquired new film and

00:08:56.520 television rights to the film. They did not invite Ryan Reynolds and Maximum Effort to come along on

00:09:06.300 the ride. So what happened around April of 2024? I mean, if you follow the It Ends With Us drama,

00:09:15.680 you know it was boiling at that point. At that point, we've seen text messages between Sony

00:09:24.180 executives calling Blake Lively a terrorist. Already in late 2023, when Blake Lively sent

00:09:31.740 this 17-point list, as you might remember, to get Justin Baldoni to sign and Jamie Heath to sign,

00:09:38.080 she called Blake an effing terrorist back then. And then it was repeated in March of 2024

00:09:46.820 by Sony motion picture group president Sanford Panitch.

00:09:52.560 He also called her a terrorist 0.87

00:09:55.880 because she demanded to get her own cut of the movie.

00:10:01.200 And as we've learned later on,

00:10:03.520 these people knew how involved Ryan Reynolds was

00:10:07.140 in rewriting the movie.

00:10:08.920 We've seen text messages between them

00:10:11.720 that was released later in January of this year

00:10:14.960 where they're saying that Blake wants I mean Ryan wants a phone call about the latest cut or the

00:10:22.940 latest rewrite of the movie so we know that Sony knew how involved Ryan was in rewriting and editing

00:10:31.240 it ends with us so that was the question because later in 2024 as you know Ryan Reynolds had a huge

00:10:39.460 success at the box-off with Deadpool vs. Wolverine. So why wouldn't Sony work with him

00:10:44.880 on this project that he had been developing for years? I don't know. And when you look at other

00:10:53.000 projects that Ryan Reynolds has in the pipeline, I think we can see a pattern here. Remember Animal

00:10:58.780 Friends? That movie was supposed to be released on August 15th in 2025. And that movie was a Sony

00:11:06.980 movie to begin with then the premiere date moved from august 15 to october 10th of 2025

00:11:13.900 when the distribution shifted from sony to warner and then it was pushed back for some reason to

00:11:22.280 may 1st of 2026 because as you know this was in the middle of the legal feud so warner was probably

00:11:30.100 thinking not a good idea to release this movie while there is a legal dispute here. So the next

00:11:37.080 day was May 1st, which made sense at the time a little bit because the original date for Blake

00:11:43.440 Livey's lawsuit was set to March 18th. But then it was pushed for a few months because Judge

00:11:48.840 Lyman had so much to do. So then Warner was probably thinking May 1st is not a great date

00:11:55.220 because that's just going to be right before this trial

00:11:59.280 and it's going to be too much focus on this trial.

00:12:01.940 So then they decided to push the premiere of this movie until June 5th.

00:12:06.520 Then who knows what happened?

00:12:09.340 Because on June 5th, the movie was not released.

00:12:13.300 Then Warner said,

00:12:14.740 okay, we are going to move this to January 2027,

00:12:18.860 hoping that maybe people had forgotten about all of this controversy by then.

00:12:25.660 So apparently Warner said that more of the cast would be available to promote the movie in January of 2027.

00:12:33.780 So that's why they changed the release date.

00:12:37.280 So Animal Friends has had five different release dates.

00:12:40.400 It's been pushed for roughly 17 months.

00:12:43.820 That doesn't happen very often.

00:12:45.700 This is a movie they put a lot of money into.

00:12:47.740 and of course they want to make that money back and keep in mind maximum effort is the producer

00:12:54.300 of this movie as well so yeah let's see when or if that movie will ever be released i feel so bad

00:13:02.380 for all his co-stars who has to sit next to him and promote this movie by the way anyways let's

00:13:07.580 look into this lovely article in homes and garden if you're ever wondering why mainstream media is

00:13:13.880 dying here's your answer and we have to talk about northwest how can anyone do this to a child

00:15:23.440 people sent me this article actually and i didn't stumble across it it came up i mean in my google

00:15:29.560 feed for some reason and i was like what is this so this was in homes and gardens and they did a

00:15:38.540 story here on blake lively and ryan reynolds bathroom it says blake lively and ryan reynolds

00:15:45.620 bathroom serves as a manifesto for anti-minimalist tiles and old money warmth what is old money

00:15:54.620 warmth by the way there's nothing warm about old money anyways it says here in the subtitle

00:16:00.400 in the move against sterile bathrooms the couple pairs wooden beams with custom tiles

00:16:06.060 and framed art to define heritage style comfort anyways i'm not going to read more from this 0.94

00:16:13.860 article it is so dumb and here is what they're basing this article hold your horses look at this 0.64

00:16:21.600 it's an instagram reel that blake lively mage uh it's a tutorial for her blake brown products 0.98

00:16:29.520 and in the background you can see a couple of photos and some beams in the ceiling and some

00:16:35.540 wooden structure there and that is what they're basing this article on can you believe it and

00:16:42.820 they're saying here, if you're wondering if you should use wood in a bathroom, Blake and Ryan

00:16:47.720 Space has the answer. So now you know. If you're ever wondering if you're putting wood in the

00:16:53.600 bathroom, here's your answer. I mean, if you ever wonder why people don't trust mainstream media

00:16:58.580 anymore, here is your answer. Yes. Anyways, let's get into this story about Northwest. I've been

00:17:05.920 seeing this in my feed for about a week now. And the first time I saw these photos of Northwest

00:17:12.000 on the cover of Days, I was shocked.

00:17:16.020 So this is the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

00:17:20.100 and she just turned 13 years old.

00:17:23.680 She was interviewed by this magazine

00:17:25.960 where she said,

00:17:27.460 Northwest, music is what I want to do with my life.

00:17:31.620 First of all, how do you know what you want to do

00:17:34.160 with your life when you're 13?

00:17:35.760 You are a child and you should still be a child.

00:17:38.600 I don't know if she's even reached puberty yet,

00:17:41.440 But the fact that her parents are putting her out there like this is just horrific to me.

00:17:47.160 They're saying here, born in the world's most visible family,

00:17:50.100 Northwest has spent 13 years being watched.

00:17:52.680 Now with a riotous debut, EP, mixing, rage, rap, rock, emo, and hyperpop,

00:17:59.540 she's ready to be seen on her own terms.

00:18:02.760 You can't say that about a 13-year-old, that she's ready to be seen on her own terms.

00:18:08.700 When you look at her Instagram, it is managed by her parents, it says here, because it's

00:18:15.140 illegal for 13-year-olds to be on Instagram.

00:18:18.100 And there is a reason for that because they're supposed to be protected against that.

00:18:22.920 So she can't post her own things on Instagram.

00:18:26.620 Her parents can do it, but then she's allowed to read the comments.

00:18:31.440 And what does that do to a 13-year-old?

00:18:34.660 You are putting this little girl out there to be criticized by grown-ups.

00:18:39.520 Not only for her appearance, but also for her music.

00:18:44.300 When you're 13 years old, you should be at a school play and you should mess up things

00:18:49.740 and your parents should be there to applaud you and you should know that the pressure is off.

00:18:54.860 You don't have to be amazing because your parents are there to love and support you.

00:18:59.520 What Kanye and Kim did to her daughter here, putting her on a stage because she did have a

00:19:06.240 concert on Friday in front of a big audience. Can you imagine what that does to her? Both her 0.87

00:19:14.080 parents were there though, although they were on the opposite side of the concert arena.

00:19:19.920 They were watching her and applauding and Kim was singing along with the lyrics. But just the fact

00:19:25.780 that they're allowing this to happen to her it's just so disturbing to me of course north doesn't

00:19:32.600 know what's best for herself because she is a child there is a reason why you still live with

00:19:38.120 your parents when you're 13 years old because you can't manage to live by yourself so how are you

00:19:43.360 going to deal with all the backlash because it is going to come how are you going to deal with that

00:19:50.120 when you're just a kid and of course people are already jumping on her and saying that she was

00:19:55.480 lip syncing during a concert and they were criticizing her appearance and her stage show

00:20:02.800 and i don't think that any grown-up should really review her performance at all and of course being 0.99

00:20:09.020 a nepo baby puts a lot of extra pressure on someone because she knows both her parents were

00:20:14.820 very very successful with what they did kim kardashian just by being kim kardashian and a

00:20:21.060 reality star and of course kanya having a huge success in the music industry but we also know

00:20:26.420 that kanya has suffered from mental illness serious mental illness so that is in the family

00:20:32.640 and then they're putting their daughter out like this i mean the only reason i could find that you

00:20:37.340 would ever put your child in a position like this is that you're so narcissistic that you just see

00:20:42.980 your child as an extension of yourself because if you really care about your child's well-being

00:20:47.780 you would never do this it kind of reminds me of Jaden Smith I met him and Will Smith I did

00:20:55.000 interviews with both of them when they were doing a movie together that really bombed I can't remember

00:21:01.020 the name of that movie right now but anyways they were in Cancun we were at a hotel and we did

00:21:07.260 interviews with both of them and I remember Will Smith was saying you know it's his choice to go

00:21:13.420 out there is his choice, you know, to choose this route for himself. And he said, I would never put

00:21:20.080 my child in this meat grinder of an industry if he didn't want to himself. But when your child is

00:21:26.760 13, I don't think they're ever going to look back at that time later in life and say, thank you to

00:21:32.500 my parents who allowed me to put myself out there so people could jump on me and criticize me when

00:21:40.560 I was a child and especially considering all these child stars who've come out openly and talked about

00:21:47.000 how damaging it was for them to become famous at such a young age. I mean if you ask any child do

00:21:53.860 you want to be famous? Do you want to be on a stage and people applaud you? A lot of children would say

00:21:59.320 yes but they don't understand what that actually means. I have a feeling now as well that because

00:22:05.480 the Kardashian family has kind of faded away from our attention we're not really interested in them

00:22:11.460 anymore this is like an attempt for Kim Kardashian to become relevant again and Kanye West I don't

00:22:18.180 even want to comment on him he is like yeah but the fact is the risk of Northwest failing is pretty 0.97

00:22:26.480 big and I think for Nepo babies like Northwest it's even harder because you have all these 0.55

00:22:33.920 expectations to be as great as your parents and that probably will never happen unless she is 0.97

00:22:40.660 extremely talented and creates a career on her own which is not what she's doing here so yeah i really

00:22:48.220 hope that maybe she decides to step away from this and wait until she gets older and see if this is

00:22:56.500 really the route she wants to go because this to me is just heartbreaking you know i'd be like

00:23:03.660 painted for fun sometimes but like the paint I use always gets like on my hands it's so boring

00:23:12.200 it's literally just black it's like even like the numbers are black I don't like to rest a lot I

00:23:19.260 like when I get stuff done going to rehearsal then going to the studio it's a perfect day or
