Hi and welcome to Flossom Talk. I'm Tash de Flå and this is Magnus Sundholm. I invited him back
00:00:19.240
here because I wanted Magnus to share some of his experiences working in Hollywood.
00:00:23.760
Mainly some of the bad ones, I think. Because how long have you been here, Magnus?
00:00:28.380
Way too long. Way too long. You've interviewed like everyone. I think we could say like,
00:00:35.860
is there anyone left that are still alive that you would like to interview in Hollywood?
00:00:40.900
Oh, good question. I can't. No, I don't know. I don't know. I can't think of anyone right now.
00:00:47.100
Okay, so the other day. Maybe because I want to leave.
00:00:51.460
So the other day we were over at Farmer's Market and having lunch and then Harrison Ford was just
00:00:57.600
passing us and he went into this French delicatessen store or whatever looking at cheese and we
00:01:04.700
started talking about him. And I've never met Harrison Ford, but you have, Magnus.
00:01:09.720
Yes, a few times. I have to say though, he looked really good. He's past 80 now and he's been in a
00:01:14.580
plane crash and he was walking around like Christmas shopping, I think.
00:01:20.180
Yeah, he didn't buy anything in that store. He went in for a long time.
00:01:29.460
Well, so tell me about your experience with Harrison Ford, Magnus.
00:01:32.700
The one that stands out is, of course, I went to the set of the Air Force One. Remember that?
00:01:44.020
Have I seen it? No, I don't think I've seen it. Maybe I don't remember.
00:01:55.020
And yeah, we were invited down to Sony Studios, Culver City.
00:02:01.020
When you do those set visits, you sit around forever and you wait for the actors to come
00:02:04.920
and talk about the movie and the shoot and you get to see a few scenes.
00:02:07.940
And then you realize how boring filmmaking is because you hear someone say the same thing for 20 times or something.
00:02:15.940
I was shocked the first time I did a set visit because I was like, oh, this is going to be so exciting.
00:02:20.460
And as you said, it is just waiting and waiting and waiting around.
00:02:27.340
Yeah, we were in a big hangar down there and they had an airplane body on a, I don't know what it's called.
00:02:40.860
It was a platform that moves, basically, so they could simulate turbulence and stuff.
00:02:49.960
But anyway, yeah, so, you know, it was exciting for 15 minutes or so to see that.
00:02:54.420
And, you know, to walk, we actually walked, I think we walked inside the plane.
00:02:58.940
And then, of course, you're told you're going to meet the actors and you get to talk to them, as I said before.
00:03:02.900
Anyway, yeah, and we did talk to Gary Oldman and he was nice back then, even though that was during his drinking days.
00:03:11.100
But I guess, you know, he was having a good day.
00:03:14.880
And then, you know, then you're told, but Harrison Ford back then was, of course, the big star.
00:03:36.180
So, yeah, he was, you know, he was a superstar back then.
00:03:38.300
He was Indiana Jones and everybody wanted to meet him.
00:03:43.800
So, you sit around and you wait and you wait and there's a publicist with you on set.
00:03:47.920
And they say there were probably five or six of us who were invited to this thing, right?
00:03:52.220
And then there's a publicist with you that babysits you and makes sure that, you know, you don't interrupt shooting or sneeze when they're, you know, the whole thing.
00:04:03.140
And then you don't walk where you're not supposed to walk and all that.
00:04:11.020
So, we sit around and the publicist is getting stressed, but they have no saying, too.
00:04:14.540
And they say, oh, you know, he's going to come.
00:04:19.480
I think we were there at nine in the morning and we have lunch.
00:04:22.220
And then there's the afternoon happens and nothing happens.
00:04:26.900
And then five o'clock comes around and regular people would go home and they say, oh, he's going to come.
00:04:33.400
And then you get served a little bit of dinner.
00:04:47.320
Anyway, I think at eight o'clock I said, now I'm going to leave.
00:04:53.340
I think we were there for 11 or 12 hours altogether.
00:04:57.940
And the official explanation was that, oh, we're so sorry.
00:05:03.460
His family is here today and he needed to spend some time with them.
00:05:11.260
So, I actually didn't meet him for Air Force One.
00:05:13.920
I saw him, you know, 20 yards away or something.
00:05:18.420
And then did they invite you back or what happened?
00:05:23.020
But, of course, that didn't ever happen either.
00:05:25.460
So, you just sat there for 12 or 11 hours and no interview.
00:05:36.000
But then again, if, you know, if you look at it, we've been to so many sets that, you know, where movies bombed and you can't really do it.
00:05:43.200
But, you know, when time comes around to publish these things right before they're released, the editor goes, oh, that one.
00:05:51.620
But this one, of course, became a mega blockbuster, even though you haven't seen it.
00:06:00.920
Don't you remember that line like, get off my plane.
00:06:09.180
Now we've gone through so many movies during Christmas and we realize that most movies that were good were made in the 90s.
00:06:31.200
Let us know in the comment section if you know any instant classics that were made the last 10 years.
00:06:43.460
I actually met him when the movie came out later.
00:06:55.300
I think he left an award show recently because he got so pissed off because he didn't win.
00:07:04.560
But he looked very peaceful when he was walking around at the farmer's market.
00:07:19.760
I mean, with Michael Fassbender, though, I have to say, you get either or.
00:07:26.480
And you never know which one you're going to get.
00:07:46.120
You know, one of my first things in Hollywood, it was going to the set of The Usual Suspects.
00:07:54.080
And I was in Long Beach for the explosion of that boat.
00:08:04.840
But maybe not my favorite person, I should say.
00:08:08.940
You described him when we were talking about this morning.
00:08:10.780
You described him as the character he's playing in House of Cards.
00:08:20.020
I don't usually make it my business to correct the media.
00:08:26.140
And I think when we watch him on social media now, and he's come out and defended himself
00:08:32.340
against all these accusers, especially one of them, you can just see that he's just like,
00:08:42.760
All these people in Hollywood that makes big mistakes, and then they come out and like,
00:08:52.420
And I think Kenny Spacey is one of those people.
00:08:55.920
It's funny because people think that someone is a great actor when they play a certain type.
00:09:01.980
But I would say most of the time, they're not really, it's not a stretch.
00:09:05.960
They are basically playing themselves, a lot of them.
00:09:11.660
Yeah, if you're really good at playing an asshole, and that's what you get cast as a lot.
00:09:21.740
I mean, the criticism here comes from being an arrogant prick, of course, but also not wanting
00:09:26.480
to share anything and being cocky and unpleasant.
00:09:30.280
But, you know, after the scandal broke, now we kind of know why, because he was living a
00:09:36.000
He didn't, you know, he hadn't come out, and he didn't want anyone to know, I guess,
00:09:40.060
I mean, at one point, didn't they try to set him up with, what's her name?
00:09:43.380
Helen Hunt or something, and pretend they were a couple, and...
00:09:54.820
So, we've spoken about Blake Wively and our experience with Blake, but you haven't spoken
00:10:03.200
And then this morning, I was asking you about Ryan, and you mentioned that movie he did with
00:10:08.500
Denzel Washington, which had a Swedish director.
00:10:14.700
And that was, you know, he wasn't that famous then.
00:10:18.000
There was his basically kind of breakout role as an action star.
00:10:21.940
You know, that shoot was extremely troubled, I've been told.
00:10:28.780
There were even fights about who was going to win fights and stuff.
00:10:33.420
And then, apparently, they didn't want to talk between takes.
00:10:41.360
Did they do press together, or did they have like...
00:10:47.320
Because now, recently, that's one of those stories came back to haunt Ryan Reynolds, because
00:10:55.520
And I'm positive that Denzel Washington didn't find this funny.
00:10:58.520
So, Ryan told this story in like a talk show or something, where he said that his phone
00:11:03.260
went off in the middle of this very emotional scene.
00:11:09.240
And Denzel got furious and asked, whose phone was that?
00:11:27.280
Oh, basically saying, oh, that was his phone, not mine.
00:11:42.340
Magnus went to a party with Denzel and he was not behaving himself.
00:11:49.520
We'll save that for later because I think also, well, that was, he was fun at the party,
00:11:55.080
Well, so Denzel, I've, I've met him a few times and he's been like, I can see what you mean
00:12:06.800
And in my interview that I did with Mark Wahlberg, with Mark Wahlberg was just having fun and flirting
00:12:11.920
and like made this like big scene about it, Denzel was kind of pissed off.
00:12:16.940
And I think he played pissed off, but then I think he actually was because he was like,
00:12:29.420
No, I mostly have, have had good experiences with women, I have to say, but there is one
00:12:40.320
And you've seen it, so you know what I'm talking about.
00:12:42.260
And you find this more funny than I do because I was on the other end of that funny story.
00:12:50.420
I think you waited for her too, for a while, right?
00:12:54.580
I think it was a Friday night or maybe it was a Saturday.
00:12:59.200
Yeah, and I was the last guy to interview her and it was basically set up by the, it
00:13:04.860
wasn't basically, it was set up by the record company because she was going to, she was
00:13:08.400
going to, she was touring in Europe and she was going to have a big show in Stockholm.
00:13:11.940
And so it was, it was supposed to be a special.
00:13:17.000
So yeah, it was kind of a big deal, but I was the last guy out in the, in supposed to
00:13:24.980
And I got called, I went, well, it was a sort of Harrison Ford thing almost, but I waited
00:13:31.800
I think I was inside the room where we, where we were supposed to interview her at quarter
00:13:42.580
Well, that was where everyone was like, yeah, yeah.
00:13:50.120
And, um, yeah, and then this, this whole, this 30 minute slot started.
00:13:56.880
And I think after, you know, she wasn't, she didn't want to play ball at all.
00:14:00.900
She was just like super negative and didn't want to talk.
00:14:04.080
And I think after three, four questions, I sort of, cause I was, I was basically praising
00:14:09.760
her trying to, you know, ask her, what is your, what do you dream of right now?
00:14:13.680
Yeah, because she had, I was talking about all her, what she had accomplished in life
00:14:18.460
What did she say when you asked her, what do you dream of right now?
00:14:24.480
So much left to accomplish and, um, I can't wait to get started.
00:14:46.620
And they said, let's, you know, let's not do anything.
00:14:50.500
So that was a four and a half, basically four and a half hour wait.
00:14:55.500
So she wasted my time and I probably wasted hers a little bit, but you know, to this day,
00:14:59.220
I cannot listen to that stupid Christmas song of hers.
00:15:06.480
Well, I think a lot of other, that's the thing.
00:15:09.380
When we exchange experiences with people, they usually are the same.
00:15:21.960
But, uh, but that was when I was a part of the Golden Globes and, uh.
00:15:29.140
Let's say she tried more and she came with her own lights and stuff.
00:15:31.720
She was very, you know, very cautious about the way she looked and because there were photos.
00:15:38.160
Because, you know, we used to take pictures back then.
00:15:43.100
And you used to have these big press conferences and then all the Golden Globe voters were sitting
00:15:51.620
And 50 and everyone took a picture with the star after the interview.
00:16:12.500
No, but she was nice, but it was such a, you know, it was such a big deal around her.
00:16:20.080
Um, and we were setting up the room at a hotel and then her people came in with ropes, you
00:16:25.780
know, red ropes, like you have outside nightclubs and stuff and sealed sort of sealed off the
00:16:30.440
sides of this room where, where the press conference was.
00:16:35.320
Well, you know, we, we, we don't want people to get too close to her.
00:16:38.500
And, and then we, our, our president, uh, said, but you know, these are people that meet
00:16:47.560
And they go, Beyonce is just not a regular celebrity.
00:16:52.580
And she wasn't, she flew in on a helicopter and landed on the, on the roof of the hotel.
00:17:10.740
It must be like 18 years ago or something like that.
00:17:13.240
But she was huge and people are outside being really stressed.
00:17:17.700
And I walked in and she was just like doing like these arts and crafts stuff and buying
00:17:27.300
Anyways, and then we have, um, your favorite, my favorite.
00:17:35.580
And also, you know, I didn't have a great experience with Anne Hathaway.
00:17:38.820
Did you have a great experience with Anne Hathaway?
00:17:41.200
She has not been the easiest person to deal with.
00:17:44.660
She's been kind of successful at rebranding herself from all the negative press that she
00:17:51.040
received and backlash from fans too, that she received back in like 15, 20 years ago.
00:17:56.920
I think she, I think she has lived a lot, um, on the fact that she played the bullied person
00:18:07.780
When she's in fact, you know, she's been behaving like the, the boss herself.
00:18:13.920
And she's been, you know, she, that's how it feels.
00:18:18.980
Well, I'm going, maybe I'm going a little too far, but you know, she's not, she's not
00:18:23.460
She, she, I, so I met her the first time I met her, she was awful to me.
00:18:29.820
And then, as you know, she apologized, she apologized to me after I published that interview
00:18:39.840
No, she said that she was going to invite me to interview her for her next project.
00:18:48.120
Did you, did you really think that that would happen?
00:18:52.620
But you have to, you have to give her the benefit of the doubt.
00:18:57.880
But as I said, I don't think people really change.
00:19:08.040
Do you feel that love was more passionate back then?
00:19:10.920
Or people would sacrifice more for love than we do today?
00:19:31.380
And I think it's harder for people that are famous to change.
00:19:36.020
That it's really hard for them to kind of fathom this idea that there's something about them that's unlikable.
00:19:44.580
Especially since people that have been famous from a young age.
00:19:48.420
Like, you know, she was fairly young and she broke through.
00:19:51.000
And then you're surrounded by people that tell you how great you are all the time.
00:20:06.460
You're just like so obsessed with being famous and being treated in a special way.
00:20:12.580
And you can't handle it if people are not like that.
00:20:21.140
Doesn't she have another movie coming out then?
00:20:53.940
But he was, you know, of course, in the 90s, he was super famous.
00:20:56.900
And I was young and green and excited to meet him, of course.
00:21:07.860
And this is a movie that he did with Kim Basinger and Uma Thurman.
00:21:12.020
And I think it was Kim Basinger who played a psychiatrist, which might have been funny in itself.
00:21:22.220
So you can imagine Richard Gere was a superstar.
00:21:32.420
He was great looking and pretty woman, that's for sure.
00:21:47.020
And he finally shows and he stands there like, stands like this.
00:21:54.400
And I, you know, there was always a chair for the, for the talent.
00:21:59.020
So I said, please, you know, have a seat and we can start.
00:22:01.660
And he goes, no, I'm going to stay and I'm going to listen to the first question.
00:22:15.940
But thank God it was, it was, you know, it was nice enough that he stayed.
00:22:20.660
And, but yeah, he wasn't, he also, you know, you have that superstardom and a head that
00:22:29.520
I think that back then, you know, actors could get away with that kind of behavior.
00:22:37.680
Yeah, because we all thought, oh, he's a celebrity.
00:22:42.580
You know, and then people started realizing as the year went by, like, oh, maybe, maybe
00:22:55.000
Now, we spoke to this guy from Reuters, I think the other day, and he said it best.
00:22:59.760
He said that, you know, for years we have, we have sort of propped them up.
00:23:03.320
We have, even though they've been, if they've been assholes in interviews, we never really
00:23:08.540
We always protected them and then did a bland story about the movie and what they said about
00:23:13.000
the movie or, you know, we, we pushed our products.
00:23:18.400
The only reason we did that was, of course, that otherwise we would have been blacklisted.
00:23:24.500
So if you wonder why we're not doing interviews anymore.
00:23:35.620
I was in, he was in this hotel room and I had a one-on-one sit down with him and there
00:23:40.960
was this suite, of course, I don't remember which hotel it was, and it was this long table
00:23:45.600
there and he was sitting at the end and they pointed me to sit at the other end of the table.
00:23:50.980
So it was like a board meeting with no board members, just me and Richard Gere.
00:23:54.300
And I had all these really ridiculous questions.
00:23:59.660
And I only asked him like a Buddhism because he was a Buddhist, which doesn't go with the
00:24:08.500
I don't remember exactly what happened, but I remember I was really scared of him.
00:24:12.460
And then I met him again for this movie called Norman.
00:24:17.380
And then I had a TV interview with him and the director at the Pretty Woman Hotel.
00:24:27.380
And I said, you know, well, how was it like for you to be back here at the hotel?
00:24:34.380
Well, you know, I don't think I've ever stayed here before.
00:24:37.120
And I realized when I was checking in here, too, that I don't think I've ever been here.
00:24:42.500
And I've had people over the years tell me, oh, yeah, we stayed in the Pretty Woman's
00:25:00.120
That we did that was like really hotel stuff was at an abandoned hotel.
00:25:10.420
And he was like, they're selling these hotel rooms as the Pretty Woman's suite.
00:25:19.940
But then he was, you know, you can feel a little bit when a person is about to kind
00:25:26.820
So you just have to sit there and like, oh, you know, try to have a stronger accent so
00:25:42.700
That's it for this time because we have so much to talk about.
00:25:45.720
So if there's any celebrities you want to hear about Magnus or my experiences with, leave
00:25:50.820
We might ruin the image you have of them, though.
00:25:53.820
If there's someone you're a big fan of, maybe don't ask.
00:25:57.480
Well, but I think today things are a bit more transparent and the true selves will come
00:26:03.560
And I think it's because of social media that no one can really hide anymore.
00:26:07.920
Before we only read about the celebrities in the magazines, you know, they were all everything
00:26:14.920
There might be some paparazzi photos of people, but mostly we saw them on red carpets and the
00:26:21.280
Now everyone has a camera and you put it online and it's everywhere.
00:26:25.340
And I think people don't like rude people anymore.
00:26:32.520
Maybe we will treat each other a little bit better.
00:26:41.260
I hope you're having a great day and thanks again for watching and subscribe.
00:26:45.080
