00:00:17.920 You know, I really thought I could make it my whole life without having a restraining order filed against me.
00:00:23.400 But here we are.
00:00:25.060 Welcome back to the Gains for Girls podcast.
00:00:27.140 I hope you guys are watching at youtube.com slash outkick.
00:00:30.480 Now, look, if you've been following me on social media,
00:00:32.560 maybe you saw where I was recently appointed to the Sumner County Library Board.
00:00:37.760 That's what this podcast episode is about.
00:00:40.120 How this appointment came about, why I'm excited about this,
00:00:43.480 and of course, the drama that has ensued since.
00:00:46.880 I filmed this episode about two weeks ago prior to the first meeting.
00:00:50.740 But naturally, there are some updates following that first meeting.
00:00:54.200 So I figured I would come into the intro, explain a little bit about what I've been facing on the back end,
00:00:59.060 then give you guys some of the context.
00:01:00.980 A woman that I have never met, never seen, never even heard of,
00:01:03.720 filed a temporary restraining order in a lawsuit against the county commission
00:01:06.580 that appointed me and the other new library board member a few weeks ago,
00:01:09.820 arguing that our appointment violated the Tennessee Open Meetings Act.
00:01:13.220 But you and I both know that's not really why she sued.
00:01:16.180 Similarly to my appointment,
00:01:17.680 items have been brought from the floor to be discussed or voted on or amended
00:01:20.940 more times than I can even count.
00:01:24.200 is picking and choosing which things deserve procedural scrutiny
00:01:27.840 based on her own personal tastes.
00:01:29.760 And what's the draw-in of having myself on the library board?
00:01:32.600 It's highlighting the pornographic books that are in our county library
00:01:36.740 and getting them out of there.
00:01:38.360 It appears to me that this woman,
00:01:39.880 and a lot of liberals in Sumner County and across the nation,
00:01:42.880 are desperate.
00:01:43.840 We'll go as far as to sue the county commission
00:01:46.860 to put suggestive, sexually explicit material in front of children.
00:01:51.980 I respect, and truthfully, I admire every civilian
00:01:55.520 who is willing to get involved in local politics,
00:01:57.860 including the woman who sued the county.
00:01:59.340 But I just wish she would come out and be upfront
00:02:02.100 about why she is choosing to scrutinize the county now.
00:02:05.880 We'll get into all of that and more in today's episode of Gains for Girls.
00:02:08.560 Hello, everybody.
00:02:15.680 Welcome back to the Gains for Girls podcast.
00:02:17.540 You are looking at the newest appointed
00:02:19.920 Sumner County Library Board member.
00:02:22.960 That's right, me, Riley Gains,
00:02:24.920 freshly appointed to the Sumner County
00:02:27.100 here in Tennessee Library Board.
00:02:29.260 Look, I've worn a lot of different hats.
00:02:31.260 I've had a lot of different titles
00:02:32.460 over the past three, three and a half-ish years.
00:02:35.320 I've worked for lots of nonprofits and organizations.
00:02:38.700 I'm the host of this podcast.
00:02:40.460 I wrote and published a national best-selling book.
00:02:44.100 I did not think, it was not on my 2025 bingo card,
00:02:47.520 that I, at 25 years old, I had a baby four weeks ago,
00:02:50.780 that I, right now at this current stage of life,
00:02:54.240 would be owning and really so proud of the title
00:02:57.700 Library Board member, especially here in my community.
00:03:02.220 Look, where I live now is where I grew up.
00:03:04.380 The school system that I was a part of
00:03:07.060 is the school system that I want our daughter, Margo,
00:03:09.920 to be able to enjoy and thrive in.
00:03:12.560 So very, very excited for this opportunity,
00:03:14.980 for this appointment.
00:03:15.920 There's really nothing more fruitful
00:03:17.300 than giving back to your community in this way,
00:03:20.440 especially when the stakes are so high.
00:03:22.940 I think that has been made very evident
00:03:24.880 over the past few years,
00:03:26.140 especially in library settings, educational settings.
00:03:30.220 These books, these materials
00:03:31.580 that are being placed in front of the most vulnerable,
00:03:35.860 the most impressionable young children, right?
00:03:39.780 So lots at stake here.
00:03:41.100 And again, having a daughter
00:03:42.100 just makes those stakes all the more high.
00:03:45.040 I will say, I had no idea
00:03:46.820 that the library board was as contentious
00:03:50.640 as it has proven itself to be.
00:03:52.920 And it's really not just the library board, right?
00:03:55.060 If you guys, if you listening to this,
00:03:56.720 are involved in any sort of capacity,
00:03:58.640 especially in local politics,
00:04:00.600 forget national or what's happening at the federal level,
00:04:03.460 if you are involved in local politics,
00:04:05.580 I'm sure you know how contentious these positions
00:04:08.800 and these appointments can be, right?
00:04:11.120 It's not just the library board.
00:04:12.980 It's school board.
00:04:13.960 It's commissioners, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
00:04:16.220 I don't have to tell you guys this,
00:04:17.580 but I had no idea
00:04:18.500 that my small conservative county
00:04:21.880 here in Tennessee,
00:04:23.500 the red state,
00:04:25.220 the conservative state of Tennessee,
00:04:26.940 where we have a Republican supermajority
00:04:29.500 in both the House and the Senate.
00:04:31.080 We have a Republican governor.
00:04:32.420 We're a pretty well-governed state, right?
00:04:34.280 At least that's what people
00:04:35.200 who are flocking here from California
00:04:37.100 would like to think.
00:04:38.200 People who call themselves political refugees,
00:04:40.620 I had no idea
00:04:41.560 that we were dealing with here in my county,
00:04:44.880 just a little north of Nashville,
00:04:46.560 what some of those people
00:04:47.800 who fled from California
00:04:49.660 were dealing with
00:04:50.600 back in the very, very blue state.
00:04:53.040 Governed by Gavin Newsom.
00:04:55.520 We're dealing with that here in my county,
00:04:57.220 Sumner County in Tennessee.
00:04:59.480 But it's not because we're run
00:05:00.660 or have been infiltrated by Democrats,
00:05:03.660 or at least people who have a D
00:05:05.720 by their name at the ballot box.
00:05:07.560 No, that's not the case.
00:05:08.860 These are people who have an R by their name,
00:05:11.740 of course, indicating Republican.
00:05:13.620 But what I have learned to be true
00:05:16.420 is that that R by their name
00:05:19.040 at the ballot box
00:05:20.120 certainly does not represent Republican values.
00:05:23.920 We have so many RINOs in these positions.
00:05:27.340 RINOs, of course,
00:05:28.260 stands for Republican in name only.
00:05:30.480 It's very strategic.
00:05:31.440 They know what they have to do to get elected.
00:05:32.840 Again, here in a conservative part of Tennessee,
00:05:35.640 they know what they have to campaign on.
00:05:37.400 They know the values
00:05:38.200 by which they have to stand by faith,
00:05:40.420 family, and freedom.
00:05:41.280 Yet when they fill those positions,
00:05:43.480 it's antithetical to those values,
00:05:45.300 the policies that they're voting on
00:05:47.000 and that they support.
00:05:47.800 It's in total alignment
00:05:48.640 with the Democratic Party.
00:05:49.880 And this isn't just the case
00:05:51.000 in my red state of Tennessee.
00:05:52.780 Look at states like Oklahoma,
00:05:54.800 Texas, Florida.
00:05:56.000 This is happening all over.
00:05:57.320 And I think largely
00:05:57.960 because people like myself,
00:05:59.840 and look, I say this honestly
00:06:00.960 and with full transparency,
00:06:02.840 we become complacent in a way.
00:06:05.520 We think that we're immune
00:06:06.900 to the woke craziness.
00:06:08.760 That's not happening here,
00:06:10.160 not in my county.
00:06:11.460 You would be wrong
00:06:12.400 to assume that you
00:06:14.740 or that anyone is immune
00:06:17.140 to the woke ideology
00:06:19.080 that has plagued this nation.
00:06:21.340 Now, let me tell you,
00:06:21.900 I wasn't just made aware
00:06:23.340 of what's happening
00:06:24.120 in our local libraries
00:06:25.220 this past week.
00:06:26.060 I'm going to take you back
00:06:26.800 to March of 2023.
00:06:28.280 This is when I had the veil lifted
00:06:29.640 for my eyes of what was happening
00:06:31.100 in my community.
00:06:32.460 If you're listening to this podcast,
00:06:33.580 then you probably know
00:06:34.760 who Kirk Cameron is,
00:06:35.900 likely because his values
00:06:38.120 align with my values.
00:06:40.000 Again, if you're listening to this,
00:06:41.120 then our values probably align.
00:06:42.700 If you're anything like my mom,
00:06:45.360 you know who Kirk Cameron is
00:06:46.620 because you had a poster of him
00:06:48.280 in your childhood bedroom.
00:06:50.120 He was like the 80s and 90s heartthrob,
00:06:53.540 probably for his role
00:06:54.520 in Growing Pains,
00:06:55.400 but I digress.
00:06:56.660 Kirk Cameron is affiliated
00:06:58.520 with Brave Books.
00:06:59.700 We've talked about Brave Books
00:07:00.800 on this platform before.
00:07:02.560 It is a fantastic
00:07:03.740 children's book subscription service.
00:07:06.960 So this means that once a month
00:07:09.240 you get a book,
00:07:09.940 a children's book,
00:07:10.620 delivered to your house,
00:07:11.500 written by a different conservative
00:07:13.600 or Christian figure
00:07:15.600 or influencer, if you will.
00:07:17.880 I actually have a book
00:07:18.580 with Brave Books.
00:07:19.360 My book is called
00:07:20.140 Happy No Snakes Day
00:07:21.380 and it teaches the value
00:07:22.620 of standing firm in the truth
00:07:24.380 despite the consequences.
00:07:25.920 And that's what Brave Books does.
00:07:27.600 They tell these wholesome stories
00:07:29.260 that engage kids,
00:07:30.900 but they teach important virtues
00:07:32.420 like patience or humility
00:07:34.240 or the sanctity of life.
00:07:35.700 It's everything that Scholastic
00:07:37.320 claims to be,
00:07:38.680 but as you could probably imagine,
00:07:40.840 Scholastic has totally fallen
00:07:42.540 into all of the wokeness
00:07:44.680 and they're pushing
00:07:45.300 the agendas on your kids.
00:07:47.600 Brave Books is the antithesis to that.
00:07:49.840 Back in 2023,
00:07:50.900 Kirk Cameron was doing
00:07:51.680 this nationwide story hour
00:07:53.580 for children
00:07:54.140 where he would read Brave Books
00:07:55.560 to a group full of kids
00:07:57.540 in public libraries,
00:07:58.460 again, all across the country.
00:08:00.220 Kirk Cameron's nationwide tour
00:08:01.460 was in direct response
00:08:02.620 to the drag queen story hours
00:08:04.620 that we were seeing happen
00:08:05.820 all across the country
00:08:07.140 that we're marketed to
00:08:08.420 and targeting young children.
00:08:10.600 Because he was coming to my town,
00:08:12.360 Hendersonville, Tennessee,
00:08:13.140 he reached out to myself
00:08:14.420 and Missy Robertson
00:08:15.360 of Duck Dynasty
00:08:16.040 to participate in this story hour
00:08:18.200 with him,
00:08:18.840 which, of course,
00:08:20.300 I was so excited,
00:08:21.500 number one,
00:08:21.980 to be standing alongside
00:08:23.000 two of my favorites,
00:08:24.180 but also to be doing so
00:08:25.780 in my own community.
00:08:27.100 I was shocked
00:08:27.660 when I saw the pushback
00:08:28.880 that Kirk Cameron
00:08:29.560 and Brave Books were receiving
00:08:30.760 for attempting to host
00:08:31.860 the story hour
00:08:32.620 at the Hendersonville Public Library
00:08:34.800 from the public library staff
00:08:37.260 and their library director.
00:08:39.100 Through email exchange,
00:08:40.160 the library director
00:08:40.860 made it very clear
00:08:41.720 that he wasn't really cool
00:08:43.240 with Kirk Cameron being there,
00:08:44.640 his message being told.
00:08:46.280 You know how it goes.
00:08:47.180 He says,
00:08:47.480 look, we don't want to promote
00:08:48.480 right-leaning
00:08:49.300 or left-leaning values.
00:08:50.980 He said,
00:08:51.240 look, we can't host this event here.
00:08:52.920 There's too many people
00:08:53.700 from the community
00:08:54.320 who want to be there.
00:08:55.180 And I will tell you,
00:08:56.180 he actually was right about that.
00:08:57.800 There were so many people
00:08:59.380 who wanted to attend
00:09:00.500 this story hour.
00:09:01.540 The library director
00:09:02.420 ultimately told Kirk Cameron
00:09:03.820 that he would have to
00:09:05.060 cancel his appearance
00:09:05.840 and host it
00:09:06.620 at a church nearby.
00:09:07.820 But because the community
00:09:08.960 was so engaged
00:09:09.820 and they put so much pressure
00:09:10.900 on the library,
00:09:12.020 they ended up opening their doors
00:09:13.440 and allowing the story hour
00:09:15.060 to be hosted
00:09:15.740 at the public library.
00:09:17.180 So flash forward to the event.
00:09:18.860 It is a Saturday morning.
00:09:20.300 It is pouring down rain outside,
00:09:22.880 but there were so many people
00:09:24.100 from the community,
00:09:25.180 I mean hundreds and hundreds
00:09:26.280 and hundreds,
00:09:27.120 lined up outside the library
00:09:28.400 in an attempt to get inside
00:09:29.920 and get a front row seat
00:09:31.040 to listen to Kirk Cameron
00:09:32.080 read his book.
00:09:32.800 Myself, Kirk, and Missy Robertson
00:09:34.420 were inside the library.
00:09:36.040 We were attempting to film
00:09:37.020 some promotional
00:09:37.700 and marketing content
00:09:38.800 for Brave Books
00:09:39.500 before we opened the doors
00:09:40.580 to allow all of the community members
00:09:42.740 into the library.
00:09:43.980 Brave Books team set up a camera,
00:09:45.480 they had lights,
00:09:46.140 they had a backdrop,
00:09:46.820 and we were just trying to film
00:09:48.080 a few 30-second ads
00:09:49.800 for Brave Books.
00:09:50.980 But wouldn't you know,
00:09:52.480 the library staff
00:09:53.440 that was already inside the building
00:09:54.800 and sat behind the library desk
00:09:56.320 was being overtly loud
00:09:58.600 and obnoxious,
00:09:59.760 ultimately hindering
00:10:00.880 the content
00:10:01.840 that we were trying to film.
00:10:02.980 Their audio was being picked up
00:10:04.140 by our microphones.
00:10:05.780 No big deal, right?
00:10:06.900 We approached the library staff
00:10:08.240 and we say,
00:10:08.760 hey, any chance
00:10:10.320 we could get 60 seconds of quiet?
00:10:12.160 We really need to film
00:10:13.140 this content
00:10:13.940 and then we're out of your hair,
00:10:14.940 we'll go into the room
00:10:15.740 where the story hour is being held.
00:10:17.380 You don't have to hear
00:10:17.940 from us again.
00:10:18.700 They had a speaker back there,
00:10:19.760 like a Bluetooth speaker.
00:10:20.900 They turned it on
00:10:21.700 and they began playing music
00:10:22.860 from their iPhone,
00:10:23.880 singing very loud.
00:10:24.920 Like it was very blatant
00:10:26.380 what they were trying to do,
00:10:27.880 which again was to disrupt
00:10:29.240 what we were there to do,
00:10:31.000 the message that we were there
00:10:32.360 to spread.
00:10:33.120 Missy Robertson approaches
00:10:34.140 at this point
00:10:34.720 and she says,
00:10:35.200 look,
00:10:35.620 is there any chance
00:10:36.780 you could turn the music off?
00:10:37.940 We just need 30 seconds.
00:10:39.620 To which they say,
00:10:40.640 we're just looking for ways
00:10:42.740 to deal with our stress.
00:10:44.940 Missy says,
00:10:45.460 stress?
00:10:46.480 What stress?
00:10:47.200 We're just sat here
00:10:48.140 with a camera,
00:10:49.400 not really even bothering you at all.
00:10:51.540 They turn the speaker off
00:10:52.420 for just a second.
00:10:53.120 I get back in front of the camera,
00:10:55.380 hoping to knock it out,
00:10:56.340 be done.
00:10:56.960 I start to talk into the camera.
00:10:58.360 The librarians behind the desk
00:11:00.040 begin screaming,
00:11:01.500 laughing so loudly.
00:11:03.740 They pick up a book
00:11:04.640 and drop it on the floor,
00:11:06.100 stomping their feet.
00:11:07.320 Blatantly disrespectful.
00:11:09.180 And I've never been very good
00:11:10.520 at mincing my words.
00:11:12.460 I've got a video of it.
00:11:13.280 Watch it here.
00:11:13.780 It doesn't have to be stressful.
00:11:15.920 Trying to stand back
00:11:16.680 and just roll onto it
00:11:18.140 as soon as you're ready.
00:11:19.340 Okay.
00:11:20.360 Succeed.
00:11:21.580 I found that most competitors
00:11:23.040 are too scared to switch out
00:11:24.460 because...
00:11:25.920 Okay.
00:11:28.060 This is just immature.
00:11:30.900 And it's honestly
00:11:31.940 extremely disrespectful.
00:11:33.840 Yeah, it is.
00:11:34.760 Like, you guys are old enough
00:11:36.320 to know that that is, like,
00:11:37.720 extremely disrespectful.
00:11:38.560 Yes.
00:11:38.780 Like, to slam your feet
00:11:41.900 or books or whatever
00:11:42.720 on the ground,
00:11:43.680 that's pretty ridiculous.
00:11:46.040 We have 60 more seconds
00:11:47.460 and that's all
00:11:48.120 that we have to do, guys.
00:11:50.080 And it would be made quicker
00:11:51.360 if we weren't slamming books
00:11:52.700 and stomping our feet.
00:11:53.800 All right.
00:11:54.220 I want to do it.
00:11:54.700 How sad is it
00:11:55.480 when the 22-year-old
00:11:56.480 has to be the one
00:11:57.100 to tell a bunch
00:11:58.320 of grown adults
00:11:59.140 who are at their job
00:12:00.520 working to be mature,
00:12:02.620 to be respectful,
00:12:03.860 that their actions
00:12:04.760 were totally ridiculous?
00:12:06.340 You can hear the one woman
00:12:07.460 who was totally
00:12:08.480 on board
00:12:09.580 with everything
00:12:10.180 that I was saying.
00:12:10.980 She also recognized
00:12:12.620 how insanely disrespectful
00:12:14.360 the rest of the library staff
00:12:15.800 was being.
00:12:16.640 You can hear her saying,
00:12:17.560 yeah, I agree with you.
00:12:18.640 This is crazy.
00:12:19.540 I've got a quote
00:12:19.940 from Brave Books here.
00:12:21.040 They said,
00:12:21.460 the library staff
00:12:22.340 treated us terribly,
00:12:23.780 unfortunately.
00:12:24.840 And then I have a quote
00:12:25.440 from Missy Robertson.
00:12:26.620 She said,
00:12:26.980 not only were they rude to us,
00:12:28.700 they were super rude
00:12:29.720 to their entire community
00:12:30.740 that lived there
00:12:31.340 in Hendersonville, Tennessee,
00:12:32.400 because that is
00:12:33.020 a public library
00:12:33.960 and they could have invited
00:12:34.960 all those people
00:12:36.000 who were standing in the rain
00:12:36.980 to come in
00:12:37.540 and form lines
00:12:38.260 inside the library,
00:12:39.640 down the aisles,
00:12:40.500 sit on the ground.
00:12:41.160 Robertson said,
00:12:41.840 we weren't even reading
00:12:42.760 in the library part.
00:12:43.740 We were down the hall
00:12:44.520 in a conference room.
00:12:45.760 They wouldn't let them in.
00:12:47.040 They made them stand outside
00:12:48.100 in the freezing cold
00:12:49.020 with their children
00:12:49.660 in the rain.
00:12:50.600 Total rudeness to me.
00:12:51.900 And that's a good point.
00:12:52.980 But this broke my heart.
00:12:54.100 Again,
00:12:54.360 as a Hendersonville native,
00:12:56.800 as someone who takes
00:12:57.740 so much pride
00:12:58.620 in their community
00:12:59.460 and where they grew up
00:13:00.580 and where they are from,
00:13:01.660 this is my home.
00:13:03.120 And to see
00:13:03.860 people that I know,
00:13:05.360 people that I love,
00:13:06.560 teachers in the district,
00:13:07.520 parents that I know,
00:13:09.100 young kids that I coached
00:13:10.340 in swimming,
00:13:10.680 to see them treated
00:13:11.920 in this way,
00:13:13.340 it broke my heart.
00:13:14.320 This behavior that we saw
00:13:15.340 from the library staff
00:13:16.600 was not indicative at all
00:13:18.440 of the community
00:13:19.500 that I know and love.
00:13:20.720 Not an accurate representation.
00:13:22.380 If you're watching online
00:13:23.180 at youtube.com
00:13:24.080 slash Outkick,
00:13:24.940 which I hope you are,
00:13:25.820 I'm going to insert
00:13:26.600 some pictures
00:13:27.120 of what the event
00:13:27.960 ended up looking like.
00:13:28.960 How many kids
00:13:29.680 showed up to be there
00:13:31.060 to listen to these stories.
00:13:32.400 It was really incredible.
00:13:33.380 Look at this.
00:13:35.420 You can see Kirk.
00:13:36.340 He's standing there
00:13:37.360 in front of,
00:13:38.380 I mean, gosh,
00:13:39.160 hundreds of kids.
00:13:39.900 And there's more
00:13:40.400 on the other side.
00:13:41.080 It was really awesome.
00:13:42.120 But again,
00:13:42.460 I share this experience
00:13:43.960 to really,
00:13:45.240 I guess,
00:13:46.060 explain what lit
00:13:47.560 a match under me.
00:13:49.420 What this did
00:13:50.020 is it exposed,
00:13:51.740 again,
00:13:52.760 to someone who
00:13:53.520 would describe themselves
00:13:54.800 as relatively naive.
00:13:56.440 I want to give everyone
00:13:57.720 the benefit
00:13:58.260 of the doubt.
00:13:59.260 It exposed
00:14:00.120 the nefarious
00:14:01.540 stranglehold
00:14:03.100 that the progressive
00:14:03.940 liberal hyper-sexualized
00:14:05.700 culture had,
00:14:06.700 I think especially
00:14:07.400 on our libraries,
00:14:08.560 as well as how
00:14:10.180 the rhinos
00:14:11.220 were not willing
00:14:12.380 to confront it.
00:14:13.300 And they actively
00:14:14.160 participated with
00:14:15.340 the progressive liberals
00:14:16.460 to specifically vilify,
00:14:19.100 defame,
00:14:20.260 attack,
00:14:20.940 and destroy people
00:14:22.000 who have values
00:14:23.100 like me.
00:14:24.120 I still feel confident
00:14:24.900 in saying that I come
00:14:25.780 from a pretty conservative
00:14:26.960 town because when
00:14:27.800 the community
00:14:28.560 heard about
00:14:29.780 the treatment
00:14:30.640 that Kirk Cameron
00:14:31.480 and myself
00:14:32.060 and Missy Robertson
00:14:33.060 and the kids
00:14:34.220 and families
00:14:34.880 who were there
00:14:35.380 to attend the event
00:14:36.680 were met with,
00:14:38.220 they were furious.
00:14:39.700 And this had gone
00:14:40.200 national at this point.
00:14:41.320 Fox News did many
00:14:42.180 articles on it.
00:14:42.880 I'll insert one of the
00:14:43.760 articles they did here.
00:14:45.200 My community was
00:14:45.940 very frustrated.
00:14:47.280 So what did they do?
00:14:48.420 They went to Facebook again.
00:14:50.460 Facebook is like
00:14:51.160 where everything goes down,
00:14:52.540 I've realized.
00:14:53.320 They went to Facebook
00:14:53.960 to express their frustrations
00:14:55.700 about the library board
00:14:57.820 and specifically
00:14:58.760 the Hendersonville
00:14:59.640 Public Library
00:15:00.520 director.
00:15:01.300 Parents were attending
00:15:02.340 these library board meetings.
00:15:04.600 The pressure stayed on
00:15:05.760 so much so
00:15:06.440 that the library director
00:15:07.780 ended up losing his job.
00:15:10.180 And wouldn't you know
00:15:10.960 he was one of those
00:15:11.620 California implants.
00:15:12.900 But again,
00:15:13.140 that was 2023.
00:15:14.320 Fast forward to 2025.
00:15:16.820 What really caught my eye
00:15:18.200 in the past few weeks,
00:15:19.440 as you guys know,
00:15:20.420 it's been seven weeks
00:15:21.540 since the political
00:15:22.660 assassination
00:15:23.240 of Charlie Kirk.
00:15:24.740 One of the brightest,
00:15:25.800 most persuasive,
00:15:27.160 most faithful minds
00:15:28.560 of our time.
00:15:29.460 My county and the school system
00:15:30.620 chose to institute
00:15:31.580 October 14th,
00:15:32.980 which of course
00:15:33.520 is Charlie Kirk's birthday,
00:15:34.680 as Charlie Kirk Day.
00:15:37.700 This didn't mean a whole lot
00:15:38.880 for the students necessarily,
00:15:40.440 but just a day
00:15:41.340 to honor Charlie Kirk,
00:15:42.800 the life that he lived,
00:15:44.400 again,
00:15:44.620 how prematurely
00:15:45.800 and tragically
00:15:46.560 his life was taken from him.
00:15:48.340 And I think most importantly,
00:15:49.700 the methods of which
00:15:51.000 he communicated
00:15:52.200 with other people.
00:15:53.120 So the county commissioners
00:15:54.300 voted on this.
00:15:55.120 And I was drawn
00:15:56.540 to this topic,
00:15:57.580 again,
00:15:57.900 on Facebook,
00:15:58.800 because I saw
00:15:59.500 one of the commissioners
00:16:00.400 who voted yes initially
00:16:01.700 expressing on Facebook
00:16:03.280 how ultimately
00:16:04.040 he regretted his vote.
00:16:05.840 Now,
00:16:06.000 this Facebook post
00:16:06.700 wasn't just about
00:16:07.500 how he regretted his vote
00:16:08.460 for Charlie Kirk Day.
00:16:09.480 It was also about
00:16:10.380 how he wanted
00:16:10.940 to change Christmas break
00:16:12.200 in the county school system
00:16:13.400 to winter break.
00:16:14.620 Let me read you
00:16:15.100 some of his posts.
00:16:15.760 He says,
00:16:16.000 one personal note.
00:16:17.180 After many conversations
00:16:18.300 and research,
00:16:19.260 I will be asking
00:16:19.980 to change Christmas break
00:16:21.360 back to winter break.
00:16:22.880 The reality is that
00:16:23.860 while most call it
00:16:24.680 Christmas break,
00:16:25.380 we have other holidays
00:16:26.380 and families to think about.
00:16:28.040 By making this change
00:16:28.940 last year,
00:16:29.440 we did not serve
00:16:30.360 all of our families
00:16:31.420 and students.
00:16:32.980 Now,
00:16:33.200 this seems like
00:16:33.860 such a mundane,
00:16:35.580 nonsensical thing,
00:16:37.040 right?
00:16:37.220 Who would really be outraged?
00:16:38.780 Winter break,
00:16:39.300 Christmas break,
00:16:40.140 they're interchangeable,
00:16:40.900 right?
00:16:41.460 No,
00:16:41.840 this is not done
00:16:42.860 without purpose.
00:16:43.920 If you've learned
00:16:44.760 anything over
00:16:45.500 these past few years,
00:16:46.780 it's that the left,
00:16:48.080 or in this case,
00:16:49.120 these woke rhinos,
00:16:50.400 attempt to move
00:16:51.380 the goalposts
00:16:52.360 as much as they can.
00:16:53.740 It's done slowly,
00:16:54.960 but it's done purposefully.
00:16:56.540 We live in a Christian nation
00:16:58.180 founded on Christian principles.
00:17:00.900 The days of being ashamed
00:17:02.920 of our culture
00:17:03.880 and traditions
00:17:04.540 and our faith
00:17:05.440 and our morality
00:17:06.220 and our ethics
00:17:07.000 are over.
00:17:08.300 How many people,
00:17:09.640 how many good people
00:17:11.020 of good will
00:17:12.140 are harmed
00:17:12.800 by the words
00:17:13.660 Christmas break?
00:17:15.880 Zero.
00:17:16.440 So this discourse
00:17:17.420 on Facebook
00:17:18.080 and the votes
00:17:18.780 that were happening
00:17:19.420 caught my attention
00:17:20.440 last week.
00:17:21.760 So I began to look
00:17:22.680 more deeply
00:17:23.420 into what was going on
00:17:24.560 in my county
00:17:25.140 and in my area.
00:17:26.360 And that's when I found
00:17:27.620 the library books.
00:17:29.560 You know the ones.
00:17:30.880 They're the pornographic ones.
00:17:32.420 I mean,
00:17:32.640 let's call it what it is.
00:17:33.880 These are pornographic books
00:17:35.400 that are being put
00:17:36.560 in front of
00:17:37.480 and made easily accessible
00:17:38.980 to children.
00:17:40.400 They contain nudity.
00:17:41.460 They contain expletives.
00:17:42.760 They contain graphic
00:17:44.100 photos and visuals.
00:17:45.580 They contain confusing ideology
00:17:47.940 meant to sway young kids
00:17:49.720 from believing
00:17:50.380 that God created them
00:17:51.580 intentionally and uniquely
00:17:52.940 in His perfect image
00:17:54.860 by purpose
00:17:55.820 and with purpose.
00:17:57.100 I've inserted a couple pictures
00:17:58.160 of the books
00:17:58.900 that we have found
00:17:59.660 in the libraries
00:18:00.540 in my county.
00:18:02.320 So what did I do?
00:18:03.520 I went to X
00:18:04.440 to talk about this
00:18:05.640 as I do.
00:18:06.920 And this post I put on X
00:18:08.180 stirred up a lot of conversation
00:18:09.860 in my town.
00:18:11.480 Parents were made aware
00:18:12.240 of something
00:18:12.600 that they had no idea
00:18:13.760 was going on.
00:18:14.720 They were made aware
00:18:15.340 of votes
00:18:15.820 they had no idea
00:18:17.200 were happening.
00:18:18.860 And they were made aware
00:18:19.840 of rhinos
00:18:21.140 who were filling
00:18:21.900 these library board positions.
00:18:23.940 Again,
00:18:24.220 in full transparency,
00:18:25.260 I wasn't someone
00:18:25.940 who necessarily
00:18:26.760 kept up with
00:18:27.600 every move
00:18:28.320 and every meeting
00:18:29.220 that my library board
00:18:30.780 in my county
00:18:31.520 was having.
00:18:32.380 After posting this on X
00:18:33.320 and having conversations
00:18:34.160 with people
00:18:34.660 who were aware
00:18:35.500 of what was going on locally,
00:18:36.960 I found out
00:18:37.600 that there are currently
00:18:38.400 nine positions
00:18:39.280 on the library board.
00:18:41.020 One of those seats
00:18:41.920 has been empty
00:18:42.920 for several months.
00:18:44.400 The commission
00:18:45.060 and the committee
00:18:45.740 on committees
00:18:46.460 refused to fill
00:18:48.240 this seat.
00:18:48.980 So that means
00:18:49.460 there were only
00:18:50.000 eight people
00:18:50.720 on this library board.
00:18:52.040 Of these eight,
00:18:53.320 there were four
00:18:54.200 who were conservative
00:18:55.460 and four
00:18:56.760 who were non-conservative.
00:18:59.220 Again,
00:18:59.680 these non-conservatives
00:19:01.020 were technically
00:19:02.100 Republicans
00:19:03.240 or people
00:19:04.300 who have
00:19:04.880 and are
00:19:05.360 by their name.
00:19:06.720 But again,
00:19:07.720 in this case,
00:19:08.500 they are total rhinos
00:19:09.720 or people,
00:19:10.260 at least as it pertains
00:19:11.420 to this policy
00:19:12.180 and putting these books
00:19:13.040 in these libraries,
00:19:14.360 people who were
00:19:14.860 just totally unconcerned
00:19:16.440 with the transgender
00:19:17.700 ideology
00:19:18.900 and how it's harming children.
00:19:20.540 I found out
00:19:21.600 that they have not met
00:19:23.380 this library board
00:19:24.500 had it met
00:19:25.120 since February
00:19:26.300 of 2025,
00:19:28.160 meaning
00:19:28.420 they hadn't met
00:19:29.300 for eight months
00:19:30.940 because
00:19:31.420 if they were to show up
00:19:33.260 to a meeting,
00:19:33.860 then they would be forced
00:19:35.040 to vote
00:19:36.000 either for
00:19:36.880 or against
00:19:38.080 a policy
00:19:38.940 that removes
00:19:40.120 these books
00:19:40.900 from the children's section
00:19:42.760 following both
00:19:43.980 state and federal law.
00:19:46.460 Again,
00:19:47.200 they don't want
00:19:48.180 to go on record
00:19:49.200 voting no,
00:19:50.280 that's for sure.
00:19:51.280 It would ruin
00:19:51.940 their reputation.
00:19:53.120 So what do they do?
00:19:54.060 This is why
00:19:54.620 they're always absent
00:19:55.920 from the meetings.
00:19:57.340 They were waiting
00:19:58.120 until the chairman
00:19:58.900 or the chairwoman,
00:20:00.100 whose name is Joanna Daniels,
00:20:01.280 who has been awesome,
00:20:02.600 by the way,
00:20:03.580 they were waiting
00:20:04.180 for her term
00:20:04.920 to be up
00:20:05.560 this November.
00:20:06.480 They wanted to reduce
00:20:07.660 the number
00:20:08.120 of board members
00:20:09.120 to seven,
00:20:10.380 which would ultimately
00:20:11.280 give the non-conservative
00:20:12.920 members the majority
00:20:14.220 making this policy
00:20:15.760 go away
00:20:16.380 never to be voted on.
00:20:17.820 Again,
00:20:18.400 very,
00:20:19.000 very strategic,
00:20:20.000 isn't it?
00:20:20.300 It was Commissioner
00:20:20.980 Shannon Bergdorf,
00:20:22.340 who is also on
00:20:23.060 the library board,
00:20:24.060 who brought the resolution
00:20:25.400 to decrease
00:20:26.260 the size
00:20:27.040 of the board,
00:20:27.920 which again
00:20:28.280 would give the majority
00:20:29.120 to the progressives
00:20:30.080 and eliminate the policy
00:20:31.320 to protect children
00:20:32.820 from this poisonous
00:20:33.820 transgender ideology.
00:20:35.180 It was a personal attack,
00:20:37.420 Shannon Bergdorf's decision,
00:20:39.500 against the library board
00:20:40.980 chairman,
00:20:41.760 chairwoman Joanna Daniels,
00:20:43.340 who created this policy
00:20:44.880 to remove these books.
00:20:46.180 Again,
00:20:46.420 she has been stonewalled,
00:20:48.100 total stalemate
00:20:49.060 since February
00:20:50.000 of this year.
00:20:50.820 So what these libraries
00:20:51.580 are doing,
00:20:52.320 actually,
00:20:52.740 they're directly
00:20:53.880 in conflict
00:20:55.320 with both state
00:20:56.460 and federal law.
00:20:57.580 So they had a meeting
00:20:58.220 last Monday,
00:20:59.000 and because of the discourse
00:21:00.280 on X,
00:21:01.220 the books in the library,
00:21:02.560 keeping the board
00:21:03.180 at nine,
00:21:03.860 and the new appointments
00:21:05.060 were the big agenda items
00:21:07.360 for this meeting.
00:21:08.840 And as you could
00:21:09.560 probably imagine,
00:21:10.480 a large number
00:21:11.300 of the community
00:21:12.120 showed up,
00:21:12.860 many pastors too,
00:21:13.940 which I find
00:21:14.380 to be incredible.
00:21:15.740 The community members
00:21:16.760 stayed until after midnight
00:21:18.960 to hear the votes.
00:21:20.360 This ended up being
00:21:21.280 a four-hour fight
00:21:23.880 that went on
00:21:24.520 until nearly one
00:21:25.540 in the morning.
00:21:26.140 At the end
00:21:26.660 of this four-hour fight
00:21:27.840 is when they decided
00:21:28.960 on who the newly
00:21:29.980 appointed library board
00:21:31.600 members would be.
00:21:32.660 I was nominated,
00:21:34.060 and then I was voted in.
00:21:35.460 But again,
00:21:36.120 there were several
00:21:37.020 with R's by their name
00:21:38.880 who voted
00:21:39.740 against my appointment.
00:21:41.720 Two were brave enough
00:21:43.200 to say a no vote
00:21:45.060 until it showed up
00:21:46.060 on the big screen,
00:21:47.420 removing any sort
00:21:48.460 of animosity.
00:21:49.480 But there were several
00:21:50.240 who voted against me,
00:21:51.460 but ultimately
00:21:51.980 switched their vote
00:21:52.800 at the end
00:21:53.440 to attempt
00:21:54.200 to stay undercover.
00:21:55.420 Again,
00:21:55.760 very strategic.
00:21:56.580 They know what
00:21:57.100 they have to do
00:21:57.860 to continue
00:21:58.680 to be elected.
00:21:59.700 And before we get
00:22:00.300 into the response
00:22:01.020 that we have seen
00:22:02.080 following this appointment,
00:22:03.460 I just want to make it
00:22:04.320 very, very clear.
00:22:05.120 I think this needs
00:22:05.720 to be emphasized.
00:22:07.240 People like Shannon Bergdorf,
00:22:08.740 again,
00:22:09.240 a Republican,
00:22:11.060 Republican,
00:22:12.080 who is on the library board
00:22:13.800 bringing forward
00:22:14.960 resolutions
00:22:16.020 at the county commission
00:22:17.520 that affect the library board
00:22:18.940 should be viewed
00:22:19.580 as a total
00:22:20.340 conflict of interest.
00:22:22.280 Commissioner Bergdorf,
00:22:23.820 what she did
00:22:24.400 is disrespect
00:22:25.180 members of the library board
00:22:27.280 because she never
00:22:27.960 brought this resolution
00:22:28.960 that would have
00:22:29.920 directly affected
00:22:30.780 the number
00:22:31.460 of library board
00:22:32.540 members before
00:22:33.420 the library board
00:22:34.360 to get their opinion
00:22:35.640 on whether or not
00:22:36.620 they feel as if
00:22:37.260 the board should be
00:22:37.880 reduced to seven.
00:22:39.640 This was personal.
00:22:40.520 It was personal
00:22:41.020 against the current,
00:22:42.280 or I guess at this point,
00:22:43.240 the former chairwoman,
00:22:44.500 Joanna Daniels.
00:22:46.020 Also,
00:22:46.680 her voting as a commissioner
00:22:47.880 on anything
00:22:48.640 that has anything
00:22:49.680 to do with the library board
00:22:50.940 business
00:22:51.540 is a total conflict
00:22:52.960 of interest.
00:22:53.820 As I said earlier
00:22:54.700 in the episode,
00:22:55.400 I had no idea
00:22:56.140 that the library board
00:22:57.500 position was as contentious
00:22:58.920 or controversial
00:22:59.680 or sought after
00:23:00.560 as it's proven itself
00:23:01.720 to be.
00:23:02.300 I've gone out to eat
00:23:03.180 several times
00:23:03.960 over the past week
00:23:04.780 or so,
00:23:05.560 and people have stopped me.
00:23:07.080 Like,
00:23:07.180 probably close to 15,
00:23:08.620 20 people
00:23:09.220 have stopped me
00:23:10.040 and said,
00:23:10.640 congratulations
00:23:11.140 on your appointment
00:23:12.780 to being
00:23:13.460 on the library board.
00:23:14.960 All the while,
00:23:15.540 I've got our baby's car seat
00:23:16.940 in the other hand.
00:23:17.700 They're not telling me
00:23:18.280 congratulations
00:23:18.860 on becoming a mother.
00:23:20.120 No,
00:23:20.320 it's congratulations
00:23:21.100 on the library board appointment.
00:23:22.620 But not everyone
00:23:23.240 was excited
00:23:23.780 about my appointment.
00:23:25.000 Let me read you
00:23:25.520 this email
00:23:26.020 that was sent
00:23:26.540 by Megan Breenig,
00:23:27.720 who is a county commissioner
00:23:29.160 to the rest
00:23:29.800 of the county commissioners.
00:23:31.280 The subject line
00:23:32.260 is reckless
00:23:33.120 library board appointment.
00:23:35.020 It says,
00:23:36.100 Dear commissioners,
00:23:37.260 I am deeply disappointed
00:23:38.520 in your decision
00:23:39.240 to move forward
00:23:39.980 with this appointment
00:23:40.720 without apparent consideration
00:23:41.920 for the damage
00:23:42.920 it will cause
00:23:43.520 to our community
00:23:44.220 and to the reputation
00:23:45.400 of our public institutions.
00:23:47.140 It is clear
00:23:47.580 that this body
00:23:48.200 did not think
00:23:48.820 through the consequences
00:23:49.640 of appointing
00:23:50.260 a public figure
00:23:51.000 like Riley Gaines
00:23:51.900 to the library board
00:23:52.780 or the impact
00:23:53.820 it will have
00:23:54.360 on the board's ability
00:23:55.200 to function effectively.
00:23:56.980 The library board's work
00:23:57.940 depends on collaboration,
00:23:59.240 neutrality,
00:23:59.680 and focus on community service.
00:24:01.640 Instead,
00:24:02.440 you've introduced
00:24:03.020 a political lightning rod
00:24:04.260 whose presence
00:24:04.940 will inevitably shift attention
00:24:06.340 away from the library's mission
00:24:07.760 and toward controversy
00:24:08.780 and division.
00:24:09.700 I kind of like being called
00:24:10.660 a political lightning rod.
00:24:12.900 Recent weeks
00:24:13.660 have already shown
00:24:14.200 how little gets accomplished
00:24:15.180 when attention seekers
00:24:16.500 are given leadership roles.
00:24:18.480 You surely remember
00:24:19.280 the chaos and hostility
00:24:20.420 that erupted
00:24:21.000 the last time
00:24:21.720 Miss Gaines involved herself
00:24:22.860 in the library system.
00:24:24.380 Her visit triggered
00:24:25.240 a national media circus,
00:24:27.120 the unfair firing
00:24:28.160 of a good man
00:24:29.080 and even bomb threats
00:24:30.240 against the Hendersonville Library.
00:24:32.100 That was a dark
00:24:32.840 and ugly time
00:24:33.500 in this county
00:24:34.140 when we should be
00:24:35.120 learning from,
00:24:35.960 not repeating.
00:24:37.140 Miss Gaines has
00:24:37.660 repeatedly demonstrated
00:24:38.620 that she uses her platform
00:24:39.840 on X as a weapon.
00:24:41.180 Heck yes, I do.
00:24:42.380 She attacks members
00:24:43.060 of our community
00:24:43.720 with no regard
00:24:44.580 for the truth
00:24:45.240 or for the safety
00:24:46.280 of those she targets.
00:24:47.920 Funny she mentions
00:24:48.640 the word truth here
00:24:49.420 because I would be
00:24:50.180 willing to bet
00:24:51.200 this woman believes
00:24:52.360 that men can become women.
00:24:53.920 She goes on to say,
00:24:54.880 appointing someone
00:24:55.560 who thrives on divisiveness
00:24:56.920 to a position
00:24:57.620 meant to serve all residents
00:24:59.100 is both reckless
00:24:59.980 and beneath the position
00:25:01.120 of leadership
00:25:01.580 that you hold.
00:25:02.460 Did any of you
00:25:03.060 even confirm
00:25:03.720 that Miss Gaines
00:25:04.300 currently resides
00:25:05.160 in Sumner County?
00:25:06.180 I never heard
00:25:06.760 this question last night
00:25:07.860 or was this decision
00:25:09.000 made without due diligence
00:25:10.360 and without any effort
00:25:11.740 to seek input
00:25:12.400 from the public
00:25:13.060 you are meant
00:25:13.660 to represent?
00:25:15.200 During that discussion,
00:25:16.280 I did not hear
00:25:16.760 any qualifications
00:25:17.540 presented that relate
00:25:18.820 to the actual
00:25:19.540 responsibilities
00:25:20.380 of a library board member.
00:25:23.080 I don't know
00:25:23.460 what the qualifications
00:25:24.400 necessarily are
00:25:25.720 but I can guarantee
00:25:26.740 you that I possess them.
00:25:28.500 This appointment
00:25:29.200 was thoughtless
00:25:29.920 and politically motivated
00:25:30.980 not community minded.
00:25:32.480 You have handed
00:25:33.000 a powerful position
00:25:34.200 to someone
00:25:35.040 who has already
00:25:35.800 harmed our county's
00:25:37.120 image
00:25:37.580 and put residents
00:25:38.960 at risk.
00:25:39.920 The citizens
00:25:40.580 of Sumner County
00:25:41.440 deserve better than this.
00:25:42.760 Well, let me clear
00:25:43.320 one thing up.
00:25:44.480 She says,
00:25:45.020 did anyone even confirm
00:25:46.280 that Miss Gaines
00:25:47.120 lives in Sumner County?
00:25:48.300 Yes, I live
00:25:49.960 in Sumner County.
00:25:50.960 I'm very proud
00:25:51.780 to live
00:25:52.460 in Sumner County.
00:25:53.820 That email
00:25:54.500 that I just read,
00:25:55.880 let me remind you
00:25:56.940 that was by
00:25:58.100 written
00:25:58.700 and sent
00:25:59.640 by a woman
00:26:00.680 who claims
00:26:01.480 to be a Republican.
00:26:03.160 Remember how
00:26:03.580 I was just telling you
00:26:04.340 they wanted to change
00:26:05.000 Christmas break
00:26:05.780 back to winter break
00:26:07.000 for the county
00:26:07.700 and the school systems?
00:26:09.040 Well, Megan
00:26:09.400 was of course
00:26:10.320 one of the ones
00:26:11.500 who voted
00:26:11.960 in favor
00:26:12.740 of this change.
00:26:14.020 Listen to her comments here.
00:26:15.040 As a person of faith,
00:26:16.900 I think it is really important
00:26:17.920 for us to recognize
00:26:18.600 that when a public school
00:26:19.480 puts the word
00:26:20.320 Christmas break
00:26:21.000 on our calendar,
00:26:21.900 we actually take something
00:26:22.880 that is spiritual
00:26:23.640 and sacred
00:26:24.600 and we make it secular.
00:26:26.200 That's why we're legally
00:26:26.900 allowed to do it
00:26:27.460 because it makes it secular.
00:26:28.660 At the same time,
00:26:29.440 I have many neighbors
00:26:30.240 who do not celebrate Christmas,
00:26:31.800 including Christians
00:26:32.620 who choose not to celebrate
00:26:33.680 Christmas for its pagan roots.
00:26:35.900 There's history there
00:26:37.240 that Christians choose
00:26:38.920 not to celebrate
00:26:39.480 or they choose
00:26:40.220 to celebrate in September.
00:26:41.100 When we use that word,
00:26:45.540 it can make those families
00:26:46.900 feel invisible
00:26:47.860 or unseen
00:26:48.960 in the very schools
00:26:49.740 that their children attend
00:26:50.600 and I want us to challenge
00:26:53.240 artists doing that
00:26:54.100 for the children.
00:26:55.660 In John 13, 35,
00:26:57.460 Jesus said,
00:26:58.200 everyone will know you
00:26:58.840 as my disciples
00:26:59.440 if you love one another.
00:27:01.580 I want to challenge
00:27:02.220 each of us.
00:27:03.400 At the end of the day,
00:27:04.460 what matters
00:27:04.960 is that we love
00:27:05.500 each other well.
00:27:06.780 I will love you well
00:27:07.780 and I'm asking you
00:27:09.160 as a Christian,
00:27:09.620 speaking specifically
00:27:10.960 to Christians
00:27:11.360 to do that same thing.
00:27:12.940 Paul talks in the Corinthians
00:27:14.840 about not judging
00:27:15.920 the people
00:27:16.420 who are not in the faith
00:27:18.260 and so let's make sure
00:27:19.820 that when we're having
00:27:20.740 these conversations,
00:27:21.840 it is not our job
00:27:22.840 to dictate
00:27:23.680 to our whole community
00:27:26.020 what a two-week period
00:27:28.460 should be called
00:27:29.020 from a faith-based standpoint.
00:27:32.020 Choosing to consider
00:27:33.340 winter break
00:27:33.960 over Christmas break
00:27:34.780 is not about erasing faith.
00:27:36.840 It's not about
00:27:37.680 taking Jesus out of the season.
00:27:38.800 In fact,
00:27:39.880 I would challenge you
00:27:40.500 to say that it's the opposite.
00:27:41.780 Who needs Democrats
00:27:42.760 when you have Republicans
00:27:43.940 like Meghan?
00:27:45.260 Now let's read
00:27:45.720 some of the Facebook comments.
00:27:47.380 If you are bored,
00:27:49.520 if you're in need
00:27:50.220 of entertainment,
00:27:50.980 if you're on maternity leave,
00:27:52.640 go to Facebook
00:27:53.220 and read the comments.
00:27:54.940 Under virtually any post,
00:27:56.220 it doesn't even matter
00:27:56.900 what the post is about.
00:27:58.320 Political,
00:27:59.500 apolitical,
00:28:00.220 does not matter.
00:28:01.060 Go read the Facebook comments
00:28:02.640 because this is where
00:28:04.780 the keyboard warriors
00:28:06.360 come out to play.
00:28:09.180 I mean,
00:28:09.620 it is filled
00:28:10.620 with boomers
00:28:11.960 who have nothing better
00:28:13.040 to do with their life
00:28:14.080 than comment
00:28:15.560 on people's Facebook posts.
00:28:17.700 So let's just read
00:28:18.480 a few of these.
00:28:19.680 Some of my favorites.
00:28:20.920 This person says,
00:28:21.980 she had to be appointed
00:28:23.000 because if she ran
00:28:23.980 for that spot,
00:28:24.660 she'd finish fifth.
00:28:26.100 Ha ha.
00:28:27.480 The chick who tied
00:28:28.540 for fifth,
00:28:29.420 mind you,
00:28:29.860 oh,
00:28:30.060 like fifth place
00:28:30.860 Riley Gaines.
00:28:32.180 Again,
00:28:32.540 this is hilarious to me
00:28:33.580 because this is coming
00:28:34.340 from people
00:28:34.760 who have probably
00:28:35.620 never played a sport
00:28:37.120 in their entire life.
00:28:38.780 Never mind
00:28:39.320 at the national level.
00:28:41.280 Okay,
00:28:41.640 so I guess that's an attempt
00:28:42.540 to make jokes
00:28:43.140 of my athleticism
00:28:44.480 or my athletic career.
00:28:45.700 This person says,
00:28:46.480 she'll ban books.
00:28:47.580 This guy says,
00:28:48.360 I bet she can list
00:28:49.200 the books
00:28:49.560 that she's read
00:28:50.160 on one hand.
00:28:51.180 No,
00:28:51.440 sorry,
00:28:52.160 Joe Smotherman.
00:28:53.880 That's literally his name.
00:28:55.640 Actually,
00:28:56.100 I'm still learning
00:28:56.680 my ABCs.
00:28:57.680 This person says,
00:28:58.420 with no experience
00:28:59.260 at library administration,
00:29:00.800 right?
00:29:01.120 Does she even know
00:29:01.860 what a library even is?
00:29:03.600 It's not a coffee shop princess.
00:29:05.940 Second place fill-in,
00:29:07.040 better than her former
00:29:07.980 fifth place career best,
00:29:09.600 I guess.
00:29:10.540 Well,
00:29:10.760 if that ain't a DEI hire
00:29:12.600 if I've ever seen one.
00:29:14.260 This person says,
00:29:15.040 maybe there needs
00:29:15.680 to be a rule
00:29:16.360 where to qualify
00:29:17.220 for library board
00:29:18.240 that you actually
00:29:19.020 have to have a master's
00:29:20.400 in library science
00:29:21.600 or at least meddle
00:29:22.880 without blaming
00:29:23.600 your life's problems
00:29:24.620 on people different from you.
00:29:26.440 I guess I gotta make time
00:29:28.340 to go to a library board meeting.
00:29:29.900 Please,
00:29:30.260 Serena,
00:29:30.840 please come to a library board meeting
00:29:32.440 because you will find me there,
00:29:34.560 which I'm assuming
00:29:35.540 is your intention
00:29:36.660 to come and protest
00:29:38.260 or picket
00:29:38.980 or whatever you want to do.
00:29:40.500 Please,
00:29:40.980 I beg you to participate
00:29:42.420 and be involved
00:29:43.580 in your community.
00:29:44.660 I hope that's a promise,
00:29:45.740 not a threat.
00:29:46.800 This person says,
00:29:47.760 what a joke.
00:29:48.480 This person says,
00:29:49.260 thought they were against
00:29:50.140 DEI hires.
00:29:51.400 This one says,
00:29:51.940 the definition
00:29:52.560 of a DEI hire.
00:29:54.340 DEI,
00:29:54.940 diversity,
00:29:55.500 equity,
00:29:55.720 inclusion,
00:29:56.300 what qualifies me
00:29:57.560 to fit that bill?
00:29:59.980 I'm assuming
00:30:00.540 they're saying it
00:30:01.900 because I'm a woman.
00:30:03.180 Well,
00:30:03.300 let me tell you,
00:30:03.920 I would fit that bill
00:30:04.840 if I was solely appointed
00:30:07.440 to that library board
00:30:08.840 because I was a woman,
00:30:10.540 which is not the case.
00:30:11.680 I happen to be a woman,
00:30:13.540 but I wasn't appointed
00:30:14.700 to the board
00:30:15.600 because I am a woman.
00:30:16.840 That's the difference.
00:30:17.760 Are they calling
00:30:18.240 Shannon Bergdorf
00:30:19.280 a DEI hire?
00:30:20.640 Are they calling Megan,
00:30:22.120 the girl I just clipped,
00:30:23.160 the videos that I inserted,
00:30:24.640 are they calling her
00:30:25.480 a DEI hire?
00:30:26.940 No,
00:30:27.680 only me.
00:30:28.420 Only when it fits the narrative.
00:30:29.800 These dunces
00:30:30.420 can't help but show
00:30:31.200 their misogyny
00:30:31.940 and really their contempt,
00:30:33.760 their disdain
00:30:34.740 for women,
00:30:35.820 especially conservative women.
00:30:38.100 Those are a few
00:30:38.640 of the negative,
00:30:39.480 but let me tell you,
00:30:40.540 the positive
00:30:41.260 outweighs the negative
00:30:42.800 tenfold.
00:30:44.040 There are thousands
00:30:44.880 and thousands
00:30:45.720 and thousands
00:30:46.620 of supportive comments
00:30:47.900 from parents
00:30:48.620 and people in the community.
00:30:49.860 This one says,
00:30:50.420 this is one small step
00:30:51.680 in taking the world
00:30:52.420 back from the grasp of evil.
00:30:53.800 I stand with Riley
00:30:54.780 and anyone else
00:30:55.480 should do the same
00:30:56.080 if they want
00:30:56.560 their children's eyes
00:30:57.280 protected from the evils
00:30:58.400 this world has produced.
00:31:00.340 This person said,
00:31:01.260 glad to see that moral values
00:31:02.600 of faith,
00:31:03.240 family,
00:31:03.620 and freedom
00:31:04.020 were upheld last night.
00:31:05.380 Fifty percent of our students
00:31:06.380 from grades three to eight
00:31:07.520 are below reading standards.
00:31:08.920 It's time to stand up
00:31:09.880 and speak for the rights
00:31:10.620 of our families
00:31:11.200 and American values.
00:31:12.260 This person says,
00:31:13.220 Megan does not represent
00:31:14.480 the Republican Party
00:31:15.500 whatsoever,
00:31:16.180 nor a decent human being.
00:31:17.700 Thankfully,
00:31:18.260 this is being exposed.
00:31:19.780 Riley is a true patriot,
00:31:20.800 a true parent,
00:31:22.040 which is still like
00:31:23.240 the most amazing thing to hear.
00:31:24.720 God-fearing
00:31:25.240 and protective of children.
00:31:26.500 This person says,
00:31:27.260 go Riley,
00:31:27.720 go continue to make
00:31:28.600 your hometown
00:31:29.160 and county proud
00:31:30.060 for standing up
00:31:30.740 for our children
00:31:31.200 and their rights
00:31:31.840 in this crazy world
00:31:32.640 that is trying
00:31:33.020 to take it away from them.
00:31:34.400 Great choice.
00:31:35.080 She will work hard
00:31:35.800 for Sumner County.
00:31:36.600 Yes, I will.
00:31:37.500 This person says,
00:31:38.180 on Fox all the time.
00:31:39.280 Love her.
00:31:39.660 What a mature,
00:31:40.180 intelligent young woman
00:31:40.980 who will make a difference.
00:31:41.980 This guy says,
00:31:42.500 I live in Sumner County.
00:31:43.400 My son is a junior
00:31:44.100 in high school here.
00:31:44.920 Thank you, Riley.
00:31:45.780 Very happy news.
00:31:46.780 Good for Sumner County families.
00:31:48.020 This person says,
00:31:49.020 thank you so much
00:31:49.480 for common sense service
00:31:50.700 to our community, Riley.
00:31:52.000 This person says,
00:31:52.740 such an inspiration,
00:31:53.640 proud of Riley
00:31:54.160 and excited to see
00:31:54.940 how God will use her
00:31:56.020 in mighty ways.
00:31:57.180 Honestly,
00:31:57.520 all of the positive comments
00:31:58.720 make me kind of tearful
00:31:59.680 to see so much support
00:32:01.480 and encouragement
00:32:02.200 in people who care,
00:32:04.480 who care about the truth,
00:32:07.400 who care about common sense
00:32:08.700 and Christian values,
00:32:09.900 who care about their kids
00:32:11.060 and the world
00:32:12.260 that their kids will inherit,
00:32:14.080 which is exactly why
00:32:15.000 I accepted this appointment.
00:32:16.760 I'm now a mom.
00:32:18.080 I have a young daughter.
00:32:19.400 I want the world
00:32:20.280 that she grows up in
00:32:21.540 to be better than the world
00:32:22.920 that I grew up in.
00:32:24.320 I think that's a pretty standard way
00:32:26.120 of thinking for a parent.
00:32:27.580 I don't think that's anything
00:32:28.360 that sets me apart necessarily,
00:32:30.240 but what might set me apart
00:32:31.580 is being willing
00:32:33.120 to do something about it
00:32:35.000 rather than just complain about it.
00:32:36.920 We need more doers.
00:32:38.180 We need more activists.
00:32:39.660 I proudly consider myself an activist.
00:32:41.760 I was hesitant
00:32:42.400 to call myself an activist at first,
00:32:44.880 a couple of years back,
00:32:45.860 because when I picture an activist,
00:32:47.700 I picture someone
00:32:48.560 who has blue hair,
00:32:49.980 a nose ring,
00:32:50.760 and is screeching
00:32:51.380 at the top of their lungs.
00:32:52.760 And that's a problem
00:32:53.700 that that's the picture
00:32:54.820 that comes into my mind.
00:32:56.260 The other side has activists.
00:32:58.540 We need more.
00:32:59.360 And when I say side,
00:33:01.100 I don't say that
00:33:02.040 in a partisan manner.
00:33:03.700 I'm pretty explicitly referring
00:33:05.200 to those with common sense
00:33:06.500 and those without common sense.
00:33:08.060 We need more common sense activists.
00:33:10.180 So I'm excited.
00:33:10.780 I'm excited to serve
00:33:11.520 my community in this way.
00:33:12.860 Public service to me
00:33:13.880 is leadership through action.
00:33:15.660 It's not about titles.
00:33:16.800 It's not about politics
00:33:18.040 or being partisan.
00:33:19.400 It's about responsibility.
00:33:21.200 By me stepping into this role,
00:33:22.800 I'm saying that
00:33:23.400 I'm invested in our future.
00:33:24.880 Public service means stepping up
00:33:26.580 when something is broken
00:33:27.900 and working together to fix it.
00:33:30.440 And in this case,
00:33:31.160 I'm not fixing it for me.
00:33:32.780 I'm fixing it for my daughter.
00:33:34.000 I will continue to use
00:33:35.040 the skill set that I have,
00:33:36.680 the qualifications that I have,
00:33:38.420 the time that I have,
00:33:39.720 and the platform that I have
00:33:42.120 to make life better
00:33:43.840 for the people around me,
00:33:46.160 not just those who thank me,
00:33:47.500 for the people around me.
00:33:49.280 I don't do what I do for credit.
00:33:50.660 I don't do what I do
00:33:51.600 for recognition
00:33:52.560 or for accolades.
00:33:53.860 No, I do what I do
00:33:55.200 regardless of what it is
00:33:56.860 because I believe
00:33:57.940 it's the right thing to do.
00:33:59.540 But apparently conviction,
00:34:02.080 moral conviction
00:34:02.680 is a foreign concept to some.
00:34:04.400 They will call you a grifter.
00:34:05.820 They will call you
00:34:06.660 an attention seeker.
00:34:07.740 They will say,
00:34:08.200 oh, well, you finished fifth place.
00:34:09.720 In your sport.
00:34:10.720 Insert the derogatory comment here.
00:34:12.860 And guess what?
00:34:13.800 It goes in one ear,
00:34:15.460 out of the other.
00:34:16.400 And why, how am I able
00:34:18.280 to stand firm
00:34:19.180 and strong in my belief?
00:34:21.040 Because I know
00:34:22.080 what I'm advocating for
00:34:23.280 is the right thing,
00:34:24.260 both objectively and biblically.
00:34:26.520 That's what gives me
00:34:27.200 the confidence and the security
00:34:28.500 to keep moving forward
00:34:29.880 with no signs of slowing down.
