00:00:00.000 Hi TikTok. Let's talk about the Iranian Revolution. This is part 3 of my series on the Iranian
00:00:04.960 Revolution and what events led to the current situation happening in Iran. If you haven't
00:00:08.940 checked out part 2, please go check it out. The link is in my description below and then come
00:00:12.480 back and finish watching this video. So after Malisha re-established the Persian Constitution
00:00:16.260 in 1909, the Persian Parliament, also known as Majlis, enacted a lot of reforms that were meant
00:00:22.160 to turn Persia into a true democracy. For example, they abolished class representation. They also
00:00:28.240 created five new seats in the parliament specifically dedicated to Iranian minority groups.
00:00:33.200 There were two seats for Iranian Armenians, one seat for Iranian Jews, one seat for Iranian
00:00:38.920 Zoroastrians, and one seat for Iranian Assyrians. The Majlis also democratized the voting system.
00:00:45.320 They diminished the electoral dominance of Tehran, which is a capital city of Iran,
00:00:50.020 in order to provide more representation to other parts of the country, and they even
00:00:54.160 lowered the voting age from 25 to 20. Now everything seemed to be going well but remember
00:00:58.980 when Ali Shah replaced his father when his father was forced to abdicate for removing the constitution
00:01:03.820 he was only 11 years old at the time. He was unfortunately a very weak ruler and despite
00:01:09.300 numerous attempts by the Majlis to make sure that Iran remained a strong democracy and did not fall
00:01:14.440 under western imperialism or control by 1921 it had become very obvious that the Qajar dynasty
00:01:20.940 was pretty much inefficient and corrupt and that Iran was slowly starting to fall back under
00:01:26.440 Western imperialism control. I mean the situation was so bad that by 1921 the oil-rich country of
00:01:32.660 Iran was relying upon Britain and Russia for military and economic support. People hadn't
00:01:37.840 also forgotten that earlier in the decade civil wars had threatened the democratically elected
00:01:42.240 parliament of Iran. Iran was so weak that the only regular military force at the time was the
00:01:47.580 Cossack Brigade, also called Beridore-Kozoq in Farsi. Beridore-Kozoq was a cavalry style unit
00:01:53.960 formed in 1879 and it was modeled after the Caucasian Cossack regiments of the Imperial
00:01:58.840 Russian Army. And while the rank and file was typically composed of a mix of Caucasians and
00:02:03.340 then later on Iranians, up until 1920 it was commanded by Russian officers. And that's until
00:02:09.000 January 14, 1921, British General Edmund Ironside chose to promote Reza Khan, who had been leading
00:02:14.720 the Tabri's battalion to lead the entire brigade.
00:02:18.080 And a month later, on February 18, Rizal Khan and his troops reached the capital.
00:02:22.280 Stay tuned for part four.
