00:01:06.520 all furnished by lazy boy it's a really sweet place and we have uh joining me here
00:01:13.080 goldie gamari is the mpp for the riding of carlton how are you i'm good thank you rob how
00:01:18.800 are you coming out checking it out yeah it's uh it's a beautiful place uh when i heard that it
00:01:23.400 was happening in stitzville this year we figured you know we'd come out and support and uh you know
00:01:28.580 i think it's the first time that chio is having a dream home in stitzville yeah it is yeah it is
00:01:33.200 and people don't realize stitzville is such a rapidly growing community it's booming out here
00:01:37.720 yeah so this is actually really great advertisement for the community as well and for the riding it's
00:01:42.600 incredible i think every single person involved in the home building trades is in stitzville right
00:01:48.280 now oh yeah the construction is uh it's amazing it's a rapidly growing it's really it's really
00:01:54.140 uh it's really changed a lot in my lifetime in ottawa you come to stitzville for the flea market
00:02:00.160 and uh well i'm pretty sure i'm pretty sure that our christmas parade in stitzville rivals the one
00:02:07.460 in downtown i mean last year there was at least 20 000 people and i remember our parade float we
00:02:14.160 ran of candy uh halfway through the parade and we felt terrible because we bought like 20 bags
00:02:18.840 you know those costco chocolates yeah yeah we bought like 40 bags of those and we'd run out
00:02:23.640 halfway through the parade so stitzville your riding is like the entire entire stitzville it
00:02:30.220 is it it is okay and yeah what are some of the other big communities that are part of carlton
00:02:35.180 so big riding right yeah it is it is actually the largest riding in ottawa in terms of land area so
00:02:41.760 So there's Stittsville, Riverside South, Finley Creek, Manitick, the Gloucester, Leitrim area.
00:02:51.400 And then we have all of Metcalfe, Kenmore, Edwards, all the way down to Vernon.
00:02:55.360 Oh, wow.
00:02:55.960 Some of the really rural parts.
00:02:57.660 Yeah, really Osgoode, Ward area.
00:02:59.840 Then on this side, we've got Ashton, Richmond, Munster, and the entire Rideau-Golburn area.
00:03:04.800 Wow.
00:03:06.240 Lots of fast-growing areas that you're riding.
00:03:09.320 Yeah.
00:03:09.400 So you have, you know, people get this impression that, oh, Carlton, that's a rural riding, but it's a lot of suburban.
00:03:17.960 Absolutely, absolutely.
00:03:19.260 Well, half the population is suburban because when you look at Stittsville, you know, that in and of itself is 35,000 people.
00:03:26.060 And then if you put in Manitik, Riverside, South Finley Creek, you get to about half the population right there.
00:03:32.020 A lot of Chio families, I bet.
00:03:33.540 Yes, and I definitely met with a lot of them during the campaign.
00:03:38.760 They came to my campaign office along with representatives from CHEO.
00:03:43.340 And we spoke a lot about challenges that they face and also all the good work that CHEO does.
00:03:49.460 And so it's great, you know, to be out here today to support CHEO and to help spread the word.
00:03:53.860 And I'm thinking I'm probably going to buy myself a ticket or two before I leave as well.
00:03:58.140 Good stuff.
00:03:59.000 Well, I mean, health care was a big part of that campaign.
00:04:03.040 Absolutely.
00:04:04.060 You know, hallway health care.
00:04:05.500 Yeah.
00:04:06.660 Yeah.
00:04:07.000 No, it's…
00:04:07.660 I had a big spending, big taxing, lots of big deficits from the government,
00:04:13.160 and people were wondering, now, how can you spend all that money and run up those deficits
00:04:17.760 and want to raise my taxes, and still I go to the emergency room,
00:04:23.040 or mom goes to the emergency room and is waiting eight and nine hours, so big issue.
00:04:27.880 Yeah, well, and part of that is there's just not enough long-term care beds in the entire province, actually,
00:04:34.460 So, you know, you've heard the probably recent announcements from Minister Elliott about investing in new long-term care beds,
00:04:41.920 and it was also part of our campaign.
00:04:43.820 And so we've, you know, we're investing $90 million towards new beds on top of that.
00:04:49.320 And with the federal and provincial health accord, our commitment to investing $1.9 billion in mental health care is going to be matched federally.
00:04:59.000 So in the next 10 years, we're looking at $3.8 billion that's going to be invested in mental health.
00:05:05.520 And, you know, that'll provide the capacity to get those services outside of the emergency room,
00:05:10.460 which in turn will then free up emergency rooms and all the hallway health care issues.
00:05:15.080 Very good. Very good.
00:05:17.320 What's Doug Ford like to work with?
00:05:19.100 He's amazing. Oh, my gosh.
00:05:20.700 You know, every time, so every week we have caucus meetings.
00:05:24.000 And every time the premier walks in, it just puts a smile on all of our faces.
00:05:28.080 and, you know, we're all cheering and we're clapping because there's just something about him.
00:05:32.220 He's got this positive energy and, you know, no matter what's going on, he's got a smile on his face.
00:05:38.020 You know, he takes the time to say hello to everyone.
00:05:40.160 You know, how are you doing?
00:05:41.740 You know, and he remembers these, like, random details about you that you'd never think
00:05:46.540 and he always, like, asks and follows up and, you know, it's such a pleasure.
00:05:50.600 It's an honor to work for him.
00:05:52.540 This slogan that he has, For the People.
00:05:55.200 Yes.
00:05:55.520 Is that really more than a slogan? I mean, is that like, does he drill that into you as an MPP?
00:06:02.960 Absolutely.
00:06:03.260 What does that mean for an MPP like Goldie Gamari?
00:06:06.000 So for me, it's a constant reminder that I'm here at the will of the people of Carlton.
00:06:14.560 I'm here because they put their faith and their trust in me to be their voice.
00:06:18.940 And it's a reminder that everything that I do, my primary focus is the people.
00:06:27.400 And so every time I make a decision or every time I work on something, I have to ask myself, is this for the people?
00:06:33.740 And it's there.
00:06:34.740 And actually, one thing he did right at the beginning when we all got elected is he gave all of us for the people a desk stand.
00:06:42.820 And so we all have it in our constituency offices.
00:06:44.940 So if you ever walk into my office, you'll see it right there at the reception desk for the people.
00:06:48.940 I just find this amazing because, you know, I thought the voters sent Kathleen Wynne and the Liberal Party a pretty clear message on Election Day.
00:06:57.220 I mean, seven seats, worst results since Confederation.
00:07:02.640 You're not an official party anymore.
00:07:07.080 You know, they have to do their own soul searching.
00:07:09.760 But there's a big story in the Globe and Mail on the weekend.
00:07:12.780 And the centerpiece is Kathleen Wynne, and the whole topic of it is how difficult it is to watch Doug Ford's Ontario.
00:07:22.120 You know, it's hard to watch what he's doing through Ontario.
00:07:25.660 You know, I saw the headline, and I saw it on Twitter, and I honestly didn't even bother reading the article.
00:07:31.700 I mean, the reality is, during the campaign, she was sorry, not sorry,
00:07:36.600 and so now, you know, my personal message to her is sorry, not sorry.
00:07:40.720 The people of Ontario decided, and this is what they want.
00:07:44.140 And it's, you know, no matter how hard it is for you to watch what our government is doing,
00:07:50.640 think of how hard it is for the people who have been impacted by the policies that you've made.
00:07:55.700 You know, how hard was it for those people who, you know, had their hydro bills cut off in the dead of winter,
00:08:02.080 you know, seniors, widowers, low-income families,
00:08:05.100 how hard was it for them to have to deal with the consequences of her policies?
00:08:09.960 So, you know, for her to say how hard it is, I find, quite frankly, is a bit of a joke.
00:08:14.280 And it's insulting to the people who have been negatively impacted by 15 years of liberal waste and scandal in this management.
00:08:21.080 Very good. Very good.
00:08:23.040 So you're going to buy a ticket?
00:08:24.240 Absolutely.
00:08:24.600 To your dream of a lifetime lottery?
00:08:26.080 Absolutely. And I encourage everyone to.
00:08:27.400 What's your favorite part of the house?
00:08:29.120 Oh, gosh. So, Barb, my assistant and I.
00:08:32.040 It's hard to choose, isn't it?
00:08:32.420 You know, actually, it's really interesting. I'd have to say it's the laundry room.
00:08:35.520 The laundry room.
00:08:36.520 And the only reason I'm saying that is because it is not like a typical laundry room.
00:08:41.160 You walk in, it looks like a sauna, or sorry, it looks like a spa salon room, right?
00:08:45.800 Like the laundry room is like a room in and of itself.
00:08:50.060 Like you walk in, there's like a sink, there's a whole counter, there's shelves, there's
00:08:53.640 artwork in there.
00:08:54.700 Like it's just, it's fascinating.
00:08:56.540 It actually makes you want to do laundry, you know?
00:09:01.220 So, you know, if we win, my husband will have a good time doing laundry.
00:09:04.700 There you go.
00:09:05.460 Okay.
00:09:06.520 So you're off to Toronto now, a little later, I guess?
00:09:09.420 Yeah, yeah, in a little bit.
00:09:10.440 I'll be driving down to Toronto and getting back to work.
00:09:12.940 Life of an MPP, right?
00:09:14.580 Yeah, but, you know, I'm enjoying every moment of it, and, you know, I'm here to help people
00:09:18.440 and here to serve, and our office is open every day, Monday to Friday, 9 to 4, so if
00:09:24.480 anyone ever needs any assistance, they can either drop in, you know, I have three full-time
00:09:29.100 staff working.
00:09:29.720 We're in Richmond, so not too far from Stittsville.
00:09:32.240 Very good.
00:09:32.500 So even though I'm in Toronto, but there are people here to help constituents with any issues they have.
00:09:38.380 Very good.
00:09:39.820 Safe travels to Toronto.
00:09:40.880 Thank you so much, and thanks for having me on.
00:09:42.420 Good luck.
00:09:42.720 Thank you.
00:09:43.100 Okay.
00:09:43.680 Thanks.
00:09:44.020 I plan on buying the winning ticket.
00:09:45.700 Goldie Gamari is the MPP for Carleton, and she's with me right here at the Chiyo Dream Home in her riding in Stittsville.
00:09:55.280 1043, we'll take a break, and we'll be right back on 580 CFRA.
