00:00:00.000 Mr. Speaker, I want to refer back to what the Honourable Minister Bethanthalby said
00:00:11.760 yesterday at the opening of his speech, because I think that really lays out the land, and
00:00:18.200 it also reinforces the reason that our government was elected back in June of 2018 and the mandate
00:00:26.200 that the people of Ontario really gave us.
00:00:29.440 Ultimately, Mr. Speaker, for the past 15 years,
00:00:32.920 the Liberals have more than doubled the Ontario debt load.
00:00:37.180 Currently, Ontario has $1.5 million of interest on its debt every hour,
00:00:43.620 which means that every day, Mr. Speaker,
00:00:47.180 we are paying $36 million just to sustain the debt
00:00:51.580 without paying a penny back.
00:00:53.960 Mr. Speaker, $36 million a day, which could be going to health care, to education, or to protect what matters most, which is the people of Ontario.
00:01:05.660 And so the entire purpose of Bill 124, Mr. Speaker, is to cut down our costs, reduce our debt load, so that we can actually use taxpayer money for what it's meant to be used for, which is enforcing and promoting social services and provincially funded programs instead of paying interest to lenders.
00:01:29.260 because no one wants to pay interest to lenders.
00:01:33.780 And yet, if we don't start now, Mr. Speaker,
00:01:37.680 then what future are we creating for our children and our grandchildren?
00:01:44.100 What future are we creating for Ontario?
00:01:46.880 The people of this province elected us to reduce the debt
00:01:50.560 and to fix the economic finances,
00:01:53.640 and I'm pleased to support the Minister
00:01:55.420 because that's exactly what Bill 124 is going to do.
00:01:58.520 Thank you.
00:01:59.260 Thank you.
