00:00:00.000 yeah thanks for having me can you hear me okay
00:00:03.720 yeah so we have a lot of smart people here on the call who have a lot of great ideas to fix
00:00:10.420 uh the country or the canadian economy a lot of the conversation is focused on economic policy
00:00:16.800 and you know we're talking at some in some cases about the history of economic policy changes
00:00:23.160 and i guess i've seen a lot of this before in the right wing and the thing is guys like we don't have
00:00:28.840 any political power like if we were the head honchos of the conservative party and we had
00:00:34.800 direct influence on economic policy and and what we could get to come out of pr polyev's mouth for
00:00:39.880 example this would be a totally worthwhile conversation but as far as i can see uh the
00:00:44.920 whole problem is people like us don't have the political power we're not near the the levers of
00:00:50.720 power and in the name of this space it says cpc strategy so if if i i feel like this is almost
00:00:57.320 like a misplaced conversation or that you know if we want to talk about uh strategy instead of
00:01:04.840 talking about the economic policy changes in the past and how that shaped the country i think we
00:01:09.680 would actually want to talk about the specific elections the ad campaigns during the elections
00:01:14.160 the rhetoric used during the elections and what resonated with canadians at the time because let's i
00:01:20.180 mean let's face it let's go back to the last election what was the strategy of the conservative
00:01:25.780 party of canada as far as i can see it was be submissive to the mainstream media we don't want
00:01:32.500 to ruffle any feathers with the mainstream media we're going to do we're going to play it safe okay
00:01:36.240 and we're going to be the smartest person in the room when it comes to economic policy maybe people
00:01:41.780 would disagree with that i think in general that was sort of like the strategy we got you know three
00:01:46.500 years of axe attacks and every time there was something exciting or like the main thrust of anything
00:01:54.660 that pierre polyev was talking about it was almost always about the economy always about economic
00:02:00.520 policy being the smartest person in the room um we lost the conservative party of canada lost um they
00:02:08.880 did not win with that strategy so when i hear like we're having another kind of chat right now about
00:02:15.200 what's the best strategy for the conservative party and it sounds kind of the same well we got to play
00:02:19.180 it safe and we got to find the best economic policy like what's what's the perfect economic policy
00:02:24.220 that's going to win the election and i feel like this is actually like a fundamental misunderstanding of
00:02:30.200 the problems that we need to solve you know because um when it comes to mr carney you know he
00:02:39.540 what what did he do to win the election he had very interesting propaganda he had things collaborating
00:02:46.640 with mike myers he said things like elbows up he uh you know were his policies the best policies
00:02:53.300 absolutely not we know this they were atrocious terrible but he still won because of his rhetoric
00:03:00.220 he won because of his you know he had a lot of people to work with in terms of like mainstream media
00:03:05.160 and this sort of thing but uh this is kind of what reached out of the echo chamber and um you know
00:03:11.160 resonated with regular canadians and i feel like when we're stuck in this economic policy decision of
00:03:15.400 like what's the what's the best economic policy that's going to save the country i feel like we're
00:03:19.200 not even speaking the right language or focusing on the right problem which is how do we get the
00:03:24.560 right words coming out of pierre polyev or whoever the leaders whoever the leader's mouth is that's
00:03:30.720 actually going to resonate with canadians outside of just like these twitter spaces and these right
00:03:35.620 wing echo chambers online and the thing is folks i have good news we actually know what is going to
00:03:42.200 resonate with people you know a lot of the time people like to say oh well canadians are uniquely
00:03:46.220 liberal or canadians are uniquely nice and canadian no no we're human beings just like everybody else
00:03:50.820 around the world and if you look at the success of right wing parties in the u.s across europe
00:03:58.340 guess what they talk about guys and this is not just me like giving my opinion this this is like
00:04:03.340 the stats if you look at across the board the most popular policy issue is mass immigration
00:04:10.780 stopping mass immigration and this is to me this is what's going to get canadians attention
00:04:17.680 even ndp and liberal supporters are noticing this trend you know like this idea that someone who used
00:04:24.400 to vote ndp or used to vote carney would be like wow all the conservatives are stronger against
00:04:28.800 immigration actually i'm going to vote for them because that's become the most important policy
00:04:33.040 issue right now and by the way there's a tremendous amount of economic arguments you can make
00:04:37.880 of why reversing the flow of mass immigration would be would be great for the country but um you know
00:04:43.540 and also we like to like tell this lie that it's not that popular or something you know we're going
00:04:49.520 to get attacked it's the we all saw this national post article that said 65 percent uh who will
00:04:56.200 publicly admit in a survey that they want less immigrants and nearly half support mass deportations
00:05:02.500 and you know if we wanted a strategy if i could wave my magic wand whoever the leader would be uh would
00:05:09.260 be talking all about deportations and re-migration which is the reversal of mass immigration you know
00:05:17.620 this this this isn't far-fetched this shouldn't be radical if you think if you think that arresting
00:05:22.440 somebody for uh breaking the law arresting somebody for for murder or something and enforcing the law i think
00:05:30.320 we can all agree that's a good thing that you should enforce the law well there's going to be
00:05:34.000 potentially millions of people who overstay their visa in this country so enforcing the law
00:05:40.160 would necessitate would require deporting these people that would be enforcing the law and with that
00:05:48.120 kind of on the horizon this year and i don't see the conservative party even trying to build the will
00:05:54.000 of we need to get pumped up and ready and stiff stick our chests out and get ready to be like we need
00:05:58.400 to deport these people like sure a little bit of the rhetoric a little bit of the rhetoric is coming
00:06:03.180 up in in that way from the conservative party finally after the election cycle um but that needs
00:06:10.360 in my opinion that needs to be the main thrust you know and for all this stuff about foreign
00:06:16.460 interference there's there's a lot of things you can talk about related to re-migration and deportations
00:06:22.460 and you know especially out west is it is it going to be turbans or cowboy hats which one is it going
00:06:29.340 to be for the conservative party are they are they going to stand with you know the founding stock of
00:06:34.480 canadian people or are we going to continue to pander to uh people wearing turbans some many of which
00:06:40.320 who just got here within the past like several years you know to me this is a lot more existential
00:06:46.120 sure the economy is important i a lot of these things are no-brainers like building the pipeline
00:06:52.380 and this sort of thing and getting rid of uh you know provincial trade and all this type of stuff
00:06:56.040 but um to me when it comes to the demographic change and a lot of younger people agree with me
00:07:01.520 it's like the the mass immigration is the most important uh existential issue um you know if this if
00:07:10.600 the tap doesn't get turned off if the deportations don't get handled then we're going to have much
00:07:15.180 much much bigger problems on our hands and let's face it folks you see it every day in the news
00:07:20.440 more and more disturbing things of people who are not from here and i say all this because it's in the
00:07:28.380 news regular people who don't even follow politics watch the news if we connect this stuff to mass
00:07:35.120 immigration and there's a guy leading the conservative party constantly opposing mass immigration we are
00:07:39.780 winning that person's support so i know that a lot of you guys were you know talking about
00:07:45.060 economic policy before i before i came in here but to me i feel like that is obviously the key
00:07:50.320 and to go back to my kind of uh data point if you look at america when trump started to say build a wall
00:07:57.980 and aggressively oppose immigration he blew up in popularity and this is the same pattern across
00:08:03.180 many european countries where the right-wing party that started to oppose immigration became very very
00:08:09.800 popular because of it so to me this is just kind of like the very obvious
00:08:14.320 thing in terms of like what the conservative party needs to do and i will add one last point
00:08:20.060 um we got to stop being submissive to the mainstream media you know because if you do oppose mass
00:08:25.340 immigration sure you're going to get called racist you're going to get caught all these things
00:08:28.240 that confrontation needs to happen you know as long as long as the conservative party is going to be
00:08:34.020 submissive to rosemary barton and everybody at the cbc we're going to keep losing because they're going
00:08:40.340 to control the frame of the the debate the frame of the conversation and guess what the conservative
00:08:45.200 always loses in that frame of the conversation so there's really no winning unless you know both
00:08:51.680 conservatives boldly come out to oppose immigration and also kind of in a way go to war with uh rosemary
00:08:58.000 barton and the cbc at the same time and let's like ask yourself do you not think the country is ready
00:09:03.580 for that do you not think people not even just right-wingers do you not think people are ready
00:09:07.100 to see that i think they are anyway thanks for having me guys
