00:00:00.000 I am here with Chief J.D. Anderson from Rupert's Land and the center of the country, Winnipeg,
00:00:12.400 Manitoba. And what brings you out to this protest this weekend? The first thing is we want the rest
00:00:18.940 of the candidates to know you're all being treated like First Nations people prior to the 1960s.
00:00:26.420 When we didn't have a right to vote or leave the reserves. And this is what it's all about.
00:00:34.040 They're taking those rights away and trying to impose those privileged sanctions upon people
00:00:43.360 as tribal nations within a nation to forcefully confine them.
00:00:49.380 So this is nothing new to you and your people?
00:00:51.520 Not at all. So we say, anybody that's out there that's standing up, you're standing up as a tribe
00:00:58.680 that are saying no more. Enough is enough.
00:01:03.620 Enough is enough. And we have to fight the division and how they try to divide us, right?
00:01:09.060 Do you have any advice on that?
00:01:11.560 No more segregation. No more division.
00:01:14.720 The whole process was here. And if you look at some of the people that started and brought
00:01:23.280 the truckers in, they're all saying we have to support the First Nations people and the efforts
00:01:31.400 because otherwise the rest of the country is going to follow suit the way Trudeau's father
00:01:37.640 had done with the White Papers and the Red Papers.
00:01:41.280 That's right.
00:01:42.060 And change has to occur from the people.
00:01:45.100 So we say we unite the people through love and peace.
00:01:49.240 That's right. United we stand or divided we fall. It's that simple.
00:01:53.740 And a country that does not pray together will not stay together. We come together in ceremony
00:02:00.320 and peace through our traditional ways of life.
00:02:04.340 That's right. And what do we really need from our politicians or from Trudeau?
00:02:09.080 What we need is for the Prime Minister to step forward and resign or listen to the people.
00:02:18.600 Listen to the people. This is a democracy. We're coming out in numbers to have our voices heard, right?
00:02:25.540 That is true. Very, very true.
00:02:28.200 And what are you personally willing to give up to end these mandates?
00:02:33.260 As you can see, we've given up enough. A lot of people are leaving to come here
00:02:40.260 and sacrificing some of their employment and their ways of life.
00:02:45.880 And the truck drivers are an example.
00:02:49.960 And do you watch CBC?
00:02:53.560 I used to.
00:02:58.200 And then what happens?
00:03:01.220 When you realize the twist that they can procure upon the messages that we're inducing upon the people
00:03:09.180 and needing to carry forward? Not true.
00:03:12.460 Not true. You're not true, CBC. Sorry.
00:03:15.880 That's right.
00:03:17.120 So, we say, ho-ho to the people because you're the most important thing here.
00:03:23.080 You're the reason why we're out here.
00:03:26.340 And what we're trying to bring across in that point of view is we need the people more than anything else.
00:03:33.760 They're the blood and the bones behind our whole nation as a united front.
00:03:39.240 That is a nation, a nation of people.
00:03:42.140 And Chieftain, how many... Is it Chief or Chieftain? Do I say that?
00:03:45.440 Chief.
00:03:45.840 Chief.
00:03:46.440 How many racists and terrorists have you seen here today? Have you seen any?
00:03:50.600 Not any.
00:03:51.700 We're about peace and love, and that's what we said, and that's what they're doing.
00:03:57.600 We're demonstrating it by doing it.
00:03:59.740 I have to ask before you go.
00:04:03.060 Residential schools has been a very, very hot topic over the past year.
00:04:07.620 And, you know, the media has been covering it a certain way.
00:04:10.180 Do you think the media has been doing a good job of that?
00:04:12.340 Or do you think... What are your thoughts on that?
00:04:14.620 They've ran and they've hidden.
00:04:16.460 And it's a sad state.
00:04:18.520 We know for a fact the harms that we've been through.
00:04:21.440 I, as a residential school survivor, and many others.
00:04:24.820 And as every child matters, we're here for the children in the next seven generations.
00:04:30.480 We have to.
00:04:32.120 To make this a better nation, we have to always keep that in mind.
00:04:36.520 I've been talking to a lot of people who were on the convoy,
00:04:39.700 and they saw the people on the overpasses, strangers, right?
00:04:43.320 Strange Canadians, just cheering them on, giving them food.
00:04:45.880 And they were saying how they felt this Canadian pride that they hadn't felt in a long time.
00:04:50.700 Now, you're First Nations, correct?
00:04:52.860 So what does Canadian pride mean to you?
00:04:56.740 Does that mean anything to you, or what is that like for you?
00:05:00.720 I can't say it enough.
00:05:02.740 You feel it from inside your heart and to your mind.
00:05:06.120 And when we end up in places like this with people,
00:05:12.560 and you find that love and that peace that encompasses our whole body and our whole presence.
00:05:23.080 We've been swimming in it for three days now.
00:05:25.860 It feels great, doesn't it?
00:05:27.400 It does.
00:05:28.020 You know, you couldn't ask for any more than to feel this whole thing.
00:05:34.480 Love and peace.
00:05:35.360 Love and peace.
00:05:36.240 Any last words for people listening or things to get people more vocal about what's happening?
00:05:42.360 Say the Lord's Prayer a few times, and then put it into your own words of prayer.
00:05:47.580 We were brought up on it.
00:05:49.560 We know it inside and out, and it must be continued.
00:05:53.760 Thanks so much for your time, sir.
