00:00:00.000 Let's answer some questions around Bill C10. I'm a Canadian. My name's Greg. Bill C10 was passed
00:00:06.220 last night. This is going to affect Canadian internet in many different ways. I made a bunch
00:00:11.560 of TikToks responding to certain comments, so I'm just going to post them all here in this video.
00:00:16.940 Comment one, this guy is asking about, oh, don't these rules already exist? Aren't we just applying
00:00:23.140 CRTC rules to the internet? So Bill C10 is the Broadcasting Act, and yes, the CRTC applies
00:00:31.740 to TV, radio, and newspaper. These are mass mediums. If I own a TV station, a radio station,
00:00:40.000 or a newspaper, I can sell advertising. I can have my own business. CRTC hands out the licenses,
00:00:46.820 and along with that, there's a whole bunch of rules of the content, how Canadian it has to be. There's
00:00:52.460 a lot of rules. If you consider that I could just pick up my cell phone and make a video like this,
00:00:58.620 and now the rules are going to apply to me, and you, and anybody who makes a tweet, or posts anything,
00:01:04.640 makes a website on the internet, how are they going to reconcile all that with these new rules?
00:01:09.080 There's so many question marks about how they're going to do this, and that's why people didn't
00:01:14.280 think it was a good idea. That's why they added an amendment to exclude user-generated content,
00:01:20.600 which they took out. And now we're being told, just trust us. We'll enforce the rules fairly.
00:01:26.040 Comment number two, the guy's asking, how bad is this? Can I express myself online anymore?
00:01:32.120 So obviously, big tech censorship is already a problem, and for those who follow the patterns
00:01:38.080 of big tech censorship, you would know that, you know, aside from the obvious stuff like real hate
00:01:43.620 speech, there seems to be political patterns that dictate what is and is not allowed. Never
00:01:49.580 officially, right? Never really officially does it say we are going to allow transgender people to
00:01:56.160 talk about all sorts of craziness and the end of gender online, but we are going to ban a conservative
00:02:03.820 for, you know, ever bringing up Christian values. That's never explicitly explained in big tech censorship,
00:02:10.800 but you can see the pattern. This new layer that's going to come with Bill C-10 is going to be similar
00:02:16.220 to that. You're never going to say, oh, we're going to stop your speech if we don't like it, but in
00:02:21.020 function, in practice, that's what's going to happen. If you're posting content or memes about the wrong
00:02:28.460 political issue, they'll find an excuse to ban you. This third comment is really cute because it's a
00:02:34.240 liberal talking point, talking how big tech platforms never give back to Canadians, so we need to tax
00:02:42.340 them. Oh, this commenter's repeating a liberal talking point.
00:02:54.240 Five hundred million dollars into Canada's economy. This goes into the pockets of Canadians.
00:03:00.580 Oh, liberals didn't mention that part, did they? Same thing with YouTube. Nine hundred and twenty
00:03:07.560 three million dollars in 2020 alone. That's the equivalent of 34,000 full-time jobs, full-time
00:03:14.500 employees in Canada, thanks to these evil big tech giants. Big tech has its problems, but it's given
00:03:20.800 Canadian artists an opportunity to grow, more so than the government. If you tax Netflix for operating
00:03:25.920 in Canada, it's going to get more expensive for Canadians. This was another concern that was
00:03:30.440 completely ignored when this bill was being passed. Never take what a politician says at face value,
00:03:36.000 especially if it's very sketchy legislation. And this hate speech stuff isn't part of Bill C-10,
00:03:40.800 but it's really, really bad news. And finally, this fourth comment is somebody who's saying, oh,
00:03:44.940 why don't we talk about, you know, education pay cuts? Why don't we talk about something else? As if
00:03:50.680 Bill C-10 and internet censorship isn't that big of a deal. Some people commenting really do not see
00:03:56.560 the gravity of this Bill C-10 thing. An important part of democracy is being able to criticize the
00:04:02.360 government. The news media is supposed to do this, but our Canadian news media is already paid off
00:04:07.660 by the government. So they're not very critical. And over the past year with the COOF, they're even
00:04:13.040 banning types of in-person protests. Usually a protest is to criticize the government and push for
00:04:19.160 some sort of change. And now with Bill C-10, every opinion, every social media post, every website
00:04:26.320 can be looked at by the government and deemed non-essential. Un-Canadian. Harmful content.
00:04:33.180 And if you don't think this will be enforced upon people who are being critical of our government,
00:04:37.960 then you're very naive. This already happens in other countries and it's not pretty.
00:04:42.060 So that's it for now. This bill still could be stopped in the Senate. So keep your fingers crossed,
00:04:47.520 keep those hopes up. Otherwise, we can't be silent about this. We need to use our freedom of speech
00:04:53.420 more than ever online before we lose it for good. I'll continue to cover this stuff. If you want to
00:04:59.280 support me, like, share, subscribe, all that good stuff. And we'll talk to you soon.
