00:02:15.820 illustrator to jake's fight i said okay as long as you have three security guards whose total weight
00:02:20.640 is above 900 pounds they're not 300 that one is pretty yeah that dude's over how much you
00:02:27.100 right now 2 290 280 270 the other dude's probably 320 and then neil's 365 he's a little short he's
00:02:37.260 a little short he doesn't have the necessary weight requirement to carry that card i don't
00:02:41.060 think so not to mention he just iced us bro he iced us for like 30 minutes dude he made us wait
00:02:46.720 longer than trump i'm not even kidding it's crazy too because we came from the same spot i was on
00:02:52.660 the plane with him here i'm so curious where he went like he landed at the same place as you and
00:02:56.260 then detoured to like get a sandwich yeah yeah what happened hey hey welcome ken golden
00:03:03.520 what's up brother how you doing man good to see you bro how are you ken i'll shake your hand even

00:04:12.700 dude i go inside and i try and get some hot water with with lemon because i burnt my voice out at
00:04:21.380 the uh netflix party last night for season three trying to talk while everything was going on
00:04:27.520 and i found the hot water go in the car i think i put it in the cup holder and unfortunately it's
00:04:36.840 uh landed on david oh what oh you smoked david you burned one of your your friends one of the
00:04:43.940 goons yes oh you smoked is he okay does he he says he is he goes he got his pants will he will
00:04:50.600 he make a why i left team golden video i don't know i i just don't go crazy i'm a big lawsuit
00:04:56.240 targets i'm just hoping i'm a personal injury claim here yeah see that's the other security 0.96
00:05:00.880 card oh damn oh he could walk around with your 10 billion dollar card all day how much you weigh 0.97
00:05:06.580 boss 330 oh my god what do what was the weight limit you were supposed to have 900 pounds of 0.99
00:05:12.760 security for the card yeah exactly i think we're good we're definitely good um yeah ken hey welcome 0.92
00:05:20.140 dude i always love collabing with you absolutely man it's been it's been five years of this shit
00:05:25.320 yeah starting remember remember our first edition box break i do ken golden came around 0.94
00:05:29.760 breaking cards i remember that very well it was one of my standout moments of this friendship
00:05:34.620 trying to announce the names of these pokemon cards i didn't know anything about them i do
00:05:39.100 know it's the strongest brand i mean no disrespect to the pokemon uh stands out there but i don't
00:05:43.840 know anything about it and and to get right into it wow how much the the momentum in the card
00:05:50.780 industry has just skyrocketed since all that happened it's crazy the other thing is i think
00:05:56.260 it's the last time either you or i pulled the charizard out of a box that's the other side
00:06:02.380 we got two of them that day um but no look the market in 2021 i thought the market was
00:06:09.200 hot okay i thought it was like to me i said oh crap is this like tulips is this like because
00:06:15.980 everything's going up but what's happened now is the prices on the best of the best items
00:06:22.960 you know dwarf 2021 like literally a card that we would have been happy getting a million dollars for
00:06:29.760 in you know four years ago probably goes for six million now oh my god it's it's to me it's like
00:06:37.880 freaking mind-boggling because like where are these people getting all this money from i mean
00:06:43.120 i mean a lot of billionaires are just like buying stuff for their kids there's asset funds there's
00:06:49.520 you know you know people pulling together to get stuff and then a lot of people have made money and
00:06:54.620 they're spending it on what they love and this stuff makes them happy i mean like people say
00:06:59.680 what do you do i say i sell shit that makes people happy yeah and one of the largest auction 0.84
00:07:04.560 sites in the world yes called golden auctions yep your last name uh sold to ebay for how much 0.98
00:07:10.920 can you say come on give us give us something kate ebay is public ebay is public i would
00:07:16.240 you can probably find it in filing somewhere i'm guessing it's some nine figure number you know
00:07:21.480 we need guessing i'm guessing it's something you don't even look at the check dude wait so
00:07:26.640 because i invested in golden which was then acquired by collectors yes but then collectors
00:07:32.680 sold it to ebay yes am i rich now yeah you you you should have put more in you were probably
00:07:39.540 about i think you're about 10 times on your investment in golden another 10xer and they
00:07:46.600 talk about your brother being the king of youtube investors dude maybe you got a future in this
00:07:50.460 stuff well i think we got a future together because now i'm investing with him i know and
00:07:55.280 we invest in different stuff that has independently been successful we we have the access we have the
00:08:00.480 network i know you and then we have the capital at a young age part of the thing that we did with
00:08:06.260 the money that we made from from youtube was was invested we made some pretty strategic investments
00:08:10.700 and you're sitting at this intersection this crossroads of culture and collectibles which
00:08:17.700 has now seemingly collided um you made you made a very successful auction house it's one of the
00:08:23.580 most reputable auction houses in the world and then you also have a netflix show yes which is
00:08:27.480 on its third season third season wildly impressive my family reality show didn't get past season one
00:08:32.400 so dude king of collectibles season three is now is now on netflix yeah it's gonna season three um
00:08:38.680 you know i look i think i i love doing the show it was when when this guy connor shell who did
00:08:46.140 the last dance oh yeah you know i mean he came to me with some with some pedigree he got i said
00:08:51.240 what have you done he goes well i i i was executive um vice president of espiana production
00:08:57.020 which means it was my idea to do the whole 30 on 30 series and my big project you know that i
00:09:02.880 really wanted to leave start my own thing but i waited till it was out was last dance i'm like
00:09:07.520 oh my god you got those credentials so um you know between him and peyton manning and uh wheelhouse
00:09:13.500 i figure i'm covered but i loved i i told him he was out of his freaking mind that people would
00:09:18.280 be interested in watching me and watching you know my lifestyle and the company and the
00:09:22.960 collectibles and everybody involved you know he was right and it's a lot of fun but season three
00:09:28.720 the great thing about it is that if you are really into the stuff and you know it taught
00:09:35.320 we get into what makes a collectible valuable which i think in season one or season two it was
00:09:42.800 a lot of these big prices oh my god i can't believe this went for so much and then you know
00:09:46.360 they don't know what they don't know what's gonna be popular you know we look gold's never sold a
00:09:50.660 beanie baby okay they said we got to do the beanie babies um so many people are going to like the
00:09:55.180 beanie babies i'm like i'm not going to be in this freaking beanie baby scene okay so i threw ryan in
00:10:01.380 the scene um because i didn't want to do it and um but it's really hardcore i mean it brings out
00:10:09.980 the emotion like why does somebody want this what makes it valuable and it's it is you said it's a
00:10:17.660 between you know you know culture right now because these things are meaningful like your
00:10:23.740 grandparents and great-grandparents and ancestors they they bought a piece of art they hung it on
00:10:31.180 the wall where they locked it in the vault and that was that but we want something that you know
00:10:37.020 speaks to us yeah you know monet and um those guys you know you know renoir just not not not me
00:10:46.440 i love that and i think a lot of people are realizing especially young people i think i
00:10:52.000 think collecting is is finally like becoming cool and people are realizing that yes you can invest
00:10:57.200 in the stock and get like a maybe a somewhat predictable return on your investment but
00:11:02.480 investing in strategic asset classes that speak to you or that you can hang on a wall and that has a
00:11:08.100 has a cool story behind it to me was just so much more fun yeah um and i think a lot of young people
00:11:13.660 are realizing that these pieces that they can hold and that uh have meaning to them or like
00:11:18.940 mark a part of their life could potentially increase in value and that's the name of the
00:11:24.120 game with with collectibles even last night at your netflix party man i saw some amazing items
00:11:30.700 there was a uh the third home run ball that otani hit and potentially one of the greatest games ever
00:11:36.240 greatest somehow you you have hit yeah so you get to like capitalize on these uh culturally
00:11:41.800 relevant moments and bring these items to auction where like you know who knows where they would end
00:11:47.360 up otherwise oh and on that that moment for example it is the greatest athletic performance
00:11:53.020 of all time no one's gonna go on the mound shut a team out going into the world series strike out 0.98
00:11:58.200 10 and oh by the way i'm gonna kick your ass on the plate too because i'm gonna hit three home 0.95
00:12:02.120 runs yeah so question yeah are you will you uh will you try to get ahead of a trend in sports 0.97
00:12:10.320 And will you kind of try to forecast like if Otani will do well and then be on the lookout for Otani memorabilia or sports cards and try to like predict the future to determine what you're buying and selling?
00:12:23.160 Well, you know, I buy stuff personally to collect, you know, just stuff that appeals to me.
00:12:29.140 And for the company, you know, the biggest thing I think that I did in business, you know, besides my marketing approach originally,
00:12:36.620 was to be the first major auction house to say, you know something?
00:12:42.260 Modern cards are not junk.
00:12:44.480 There's a lot of people collecting them.
00:12:46.120 And I held an auction in 2016 where I sold a T-Toy 6 Honus Wagner.
00:12:52.200 And in that same auction, I sold a 2003 LeBron James card.
00:12:57.600 People were like, what the hell are you doing putting a 2003 card in with Wagner?
00:13:01.900 I said, no, I know what I'm doing.
00:13:03.680 And it hit $100,000, and everyone was going crazy.
00:13:07.380 Well, the auction ends.
00:13:08.760 The Wagner breaks the all-time record for $3.25 million,
00:13:12.520 which at the time was a record, was a big deal.
00:13:16.640 That card today, I'd buy back for $20 million personally.
00:13:19.420 but there was a lebron card in there and it went for 325 000 and it was the first ever card i think
00:13:28.260 produced post 1980 or maybe 1970 that went for over you know for that type of money and that is
00:13:35.780 really what what got us into modern cards and that's what got me all of the great modern cards
00:13:41.780 you see today and it lets people appreciate you know what is going on now in the card market and
00:13:47.880 back then with the patches from the uniforms and now they've got the debut patches and just
00:13:53.880 really cool stuff that ties people in to the game and makes them feel they're part of it
00:13:58.500 the debut patches are so sick isn't that a great idea dude it's a fanatics is absolutely crushing
00:14:03.840 it i i wrestled a match i remember the first time someone came up to me they're like hey fanatics
00:14:08.320 wants to put this this patch on your shoe and then they're going to take it off after the match
00:14:12.200 and put it in a trading card and i was like oh wow this is my collector creator and performer
00:14:16.780 brain all went off at the same time i was like this is brilliant and now their products are
00:14:20.560 going crazy because they got these patches debut patches um game worn stuff like just all going
00:14:25.880 just so innovations to keep all this stuff right introducing fanatics one for all you give to the
00:14:31.600 game now there's a loyalty program that gives back to you fanatics one members earn fan cash
00:14:37.960 and everything that comes with it like gear tickets bonus bets collectibles and more join
00:14:45.320 on the fanatics app and enjoy other member benefits like free shipping and returns and
00:14:49.600 exclusive access to product back to the show what's your cutoff for for modern cards would
00:14:55.080 say you think like the 80s and 90s no to me there's different people do it okay like i used to
00:15:01.420 way back in the day i'm a few years old than both of you so way back in the day to me you know
00:15:08.100 anything um i used to think of vintage as anything before really the uh you know before 1980 okay
00:15:17.500 but then what i think um you know the two breaks i would call that are logical is anything before
00:15:23.260 89 because 1989 is when upper deck came in and they had the high you know the high gloss cards
00:15:29.180 they the hologram yeah and the other the other date that people use is 1996 and the reason for
00:15:37.220 that is that is the birth of tops chrome and that is the birth of pokemon of pokemon and the
00:15:45.540 refractor oh yeah so i would say you know if you say late 90s start of modern um or at least ultra
00:15:52.860 modern yeah because i was a i was a collector my whole childhood i used to go to knights of
00:15:57.940 columbus which is where they would do card shows i used to go there with my father and i would look
00:16:02.240 for these hologram cards and a company called flair came out and that was big for a while and
00:16:07.240 they made these really thick cards yeah exactly so i was around for a lot of that and i i guess
00:16:11.740 i'm curious now like when you were talking about like what drives the price of some of these cards
00:16:15.860 like what are the main factors that drive like obviously you've got rarity and now you've got
00:16:21.980 this new angle that's been invited in by social media which is the idea of like hype right and
00:16:27.600 there was always hype and hype was driven from Beckett magazine and, and other, and, and the
00:16:32.580 sporting events themselves. But what do you, what do you think are the main factors that drive the
00:16:35.780 price of a card? Well, first of all, you get what, what's pictured on the card, you know? So is, is,
00:16:40.720 is it a key player? Is, is it, is it a common, you know, somebody who's not going to be valuable
00:16:45.600 so that that's always, you know, that's always the most important. Then how limited is it? Is it
00:16:51.940 in a junk product is it something like exquisite where every card is valuable even the ones that
00:16:58.400 aren't um you know that aren't part of you know the rpa or the autograph um rpa rookie patch
00:17:04.800 rookie patch autograph yes um is it um does it have an autograph does it have a jersey and then
00:17:11.520 finally what condition and this is the one this is the one that tricks everybody okay and i'm gonna
00:17:16.780 this if i'm gonna give everybody out there a piece of advice if you're into cards at all
00:17:21.620 So just because you have a one-of-one, it does not mean it's ultra valuable because if you have a one-of-one and it's one of like 50 one-of-ones of that player in the same product and it's not an exciting product, nobody gives a crap.
00:17:37.480 But the one-of-ones from something like National Treasures using a Panini product or Flawless or the Topps Chrome or Refractor or the Bowman Chrome, those are the key products that if you have a one-on-one, you really know that you got something valuable.
00:17:57.300 um the retail edition one of ones things like that um they're great but no i you don't have
00:18:05.160 a 50 000 uh patrick mahomes card just because it's labeled one of one yeah somebody's so sad
00:18:11.620 watching this right now i know i'm the grim reaper with this stuff believe me i i break break
00:18:17.200 people's hearts all the time condition really is everything yes it's the first thing i tell people
00:18:21.560 when they say man i had this crazy pokemon collection from when i was a kid and i was like
00:18:26.380 me too and then when i learned about it i went back home and i got my collection i was like yo
00:18:31.400 these cards are beat to shit yep and you wouldn't believe the smallest little nick or whitening on 0.62
00:18:37.720 the edges of the card can can ding it from a 10 to a 9 and you're talking about a multiple of the 0.98
00:18:44.080 decrease in value that that'll cause um interestingly enough there are a few big players in the grading
00:18:51.700 industry grading of course meaning the companies that assign the grade of the condition to the card
00:18:57.760 so they'll inspect the card they'll see what condition it's in uh they'll look at uh things
00:19:03.660 like the surface uh the corners of the card edges and the centering and then they'll uh assign a
00:19:09.620 value based on what they think the condition of the card is the big players uh psa you know being
00:19:14.260 the biggest Beckett's probably number two CGC SGC and then I put tag there okay okay right so
00:19:22.840 then SGC got bought by PSA yep Beckett just got bought by PSA and I'm an investor in PSA by way
00:19:31.820 of being an investor in your company um and you know I love PSA I grade a lot of my cards with
00:19:37.160 them we do business together and uh yeah but a lot a lot of collectors are concerned about PSA
00:19:43.760 essentially just taking over the industry yep so you have um what you have is you have
00:19:50.260 psa and you know i am for disclosure um there's a gentleman named nat turner who is the ceo of
00:19:58.600 psa great guy nat invested i knew nat for several years he invested in gold in 2016
00:20:04.580 um and he currently is a ceo of collectors large shareholder so when i when i mention it that's
00:20:12.900 i'm talking about but nat told me that um psa you know as far as beckett they don't plan on
00:20:20.960 changing it they don't plan on changing the price structure because the first thing i asked him i
00:20:25.900 said hey somebody's got a fifty thousand dollar card are they still going to be able to grade it
00:20:30.200 for fifty bucks at beckett or is it going to cost them four thousand dollars with the new pricing
00:20:34.620 structure so i think that's going to be really important because what people just want to make
00:20:39.360 sure is you're not buying something you're not buying a competitor just to jack up my price
00:20:44.620 that's the concern that is the concern and and he told me they're going to leave beckett as
00:20:50.560 a value proposition the other thing you have to realize is when you say you know cgc you know
00:20:56.500 that that's the parent company the brand is ccj and i'm sorry to everybody you know all the all
00:21:01.120 these abbreviations um but ccg is the trading card end they do have about 20 on the market but
00:21:08.080 um they are um they're owned by um i think like back blackstone and so they're you know they're
00:21:16.580 like multi-billions themselves so they're no um shrinking violet is it black rock is it i think
00:21:22.400 black rock or i don't know someone help i think blackstone's a steakhouse but it's really good 0.86
00:21:26.740 it is good yeah it's a good okay it might be black you've been there before your goons are
00:21:30.920 laughing because they're like hoping to go to black financial question what what do we have
00:21:36.660 without caffeine in here because i think i'm good we'll get you oh oh you don't want caffeine
00:21:42.120 no i did i did which is why they told me this is this is and then this is great here comes
00:21:46.900 here comes this whole thing i'll bounce off the walls grape i think ksi uh branded prime right
00:21:52.860 there strawberry watermelon i think strawberry watermelon strawberry cream but it says ksi on it
00:21:59.220 yeah but it's the flavor of strawberry cream oh strawberry cream case i taste like okay got it
00:22:04.180 he does yeah how do you know oh so getting back to it look that's the concern mr golden that's
00:22:11.700 the concern with the grading right but um the um you have what about ai what's going to happen
00:22:19.680 when one of these companies does i think one of these companies uses ai right people say well is
00:22:24.340 that going to put any of these all these companies out of business so i don't think do you know what
00:22:28.660 you know what the psa registry is yes okay so for anybody who doesn't that if you own cards you can
00:22:34.900 like figure out where in the world you your collection is on a particular set so it ranks
00:22:42.140 where it ranks oh god yeah you can go on there and it and it ranks um you know i sometimes buy
00:22:48.460 these really weird sets you know from like 100 years ago that not a ton of people collect just
00:22:54.760 so I can have the number one set in the registry.
00:22:57.760 And it's probably multi-billions.
00:23:03.900 It could be $5 billion worth of cards in the registry of PSA.
00:23:08.180 Yeah.
00:23:08.660 So these guys aren't going to get this stuff graded by anybody else anyway.
00:23:13.860 As a shareholder and also a collector who likes to get cards graded by PSA.
00:23:20.780 Again, they've been just so pleasant to work with.
00:23:24.520 They put Logan Paul pedigrees on some of our PSA 10 first edition cards from the box breaks.
00:23:31.300 For originals, they hooked me up with the slaps.
00:23:34.720 I think it's important that the standard of grading maybe becomes a bit more visible and cohesive.
00:23:43.480 I feel like collectors are kind of worried about the potential deviation that comes with inherent human bias.
00:23:51.000 like you know there's there's always talk about if it's if it's the end of the day and the
00:23:56.060 greater's tired or he's having a bad day he's gonna he's gonna ding your card from a nine to
00:24:00.220 a seven and um you know i i think there is validity in a concern that human bias is very real
00:24:09.880 people get tired or their mood is a certain way and so like i i don't know if it's on psa's agenda
00:24:15.580 to to create like that known standard do you know anything about whether or not maybe they're
00:24:20.900 going to try to make make it a little bit more specific in their grading so there's not as much
00:24:24.740 potential deviation i mean and they bought you know they bought the company uh gemmerment a few
00:24:31.160 years ago that's how they when these limited edition numbered cards come through um it scans
00:24:37.740 them and they can tell if it's already been graded and that's how they catch people altering it
00:24:41.460 because let's say somebody got a seven all of a sudden looks much cleaner and it would have gotten
00:24:45.660 and nine but their computer knows they've already graded that card and they reject it completely
00:24:51.840 as altered um look i think that you got a lot of smart individuals there and they want to protect
00:24:59.760 the brand it's a multi-billion dollar company um guys like steve cohen and dan sunheim who were the
00:25:06.740 two largest shareholders um you know they want to protect their investments so and these guys
00:25:13.000 probably have billions invested in ai on in in other deals right so i think that psa is going
00:25:19.820 to continue to do what's necessary to um to upgrade their standards make the consumer feel
00:25:26.560 comfortable um and it's going to come at a pace that everybody in the hobby is probably going to
00:25:32.340 say you know why is this taking so long i see yeah that's that's always a concern of people
00:25:37.760 but i i think like when you run a company as big as that change that impactful doesn't always happen
00:25:42.880 overnight what's the most expensive thing you've sold uh well so far so far the most expensive
00:25:52.400 thing we've sold was uh 7.25 million for a really low grade t-206 hunus wagner it was
00:26:00.460 graded a ps8 uh an sgc sgc2 7.25 million the world's number one sports fan festival fanatics

00:28:46.860 But first, let's get back into this episode right here.
00:28:48.840 Why is that card like the gold standard of trading cards?
00:28:52.920 Because there's going to be a lot of people watching the show
00:28:54.900 that have heard of Babe Ruth, they've heard of Mickey Mantle,
00:28:57.320 they've obviously heard of Jordan and all these people.
00:28:59.560 But why is the Honus Wagner card so...
00:29:01.840 why is it like the gold standard for cards because there's a set called you know the t206 set was
00:29:09.700 put out by american tobacco company at you know the turn of the century and it had it was the
00:29:15.820 greatest set ever produced it had you know ty cobb cy young you know you know christy matthewson
00:29:23.960 you know and and the best hitter in the national league honus wagner and they printed all the cards
00:29:30.180 in equal numbers you know except honus wagner said get my card the hell out of those uh cigarette
00:29:36.140 packs so he they just stopped production and only a few of them got out in a brand called sweet
00:29:43.660 capril and it was um you know there are two known with it with a i believe piedmont back ken kendrick's
00:29:51.160 the one that's worth probably 60 million is a piedmont back but i don't i can't remember if
00:29:55.100 There's one other or none others, but they stopped it.
00:29:58.400 So if you can't complete the set, it is impossible to complete the set.
00:30:02.980 You may have 20,000 Ty Cobbs and you won't get a Wagner.
00:30:08.560 So the folklore of this guy 115 years ago, supposedly looking out for little kids,
00:30:15.520 buying cigarettes and lighting up and getting his card, he didn't want that.
00:30:20.400 And it just has always been the most valuable card.
00:30:23.240 There's never been a time in the history of the hobby where that was not the most expensive card.
00:30:28.320 And even though the Kobe LeBron sold for $12 million, it's not the most expensive card because everybody knows if a Wagner 4 or a Wagner 5 or a Wagner 8 sold, it would be three to five times that price.
00:30:42.420 We talked about the idea of hype and what factors drive value of card.
00:30:47.760 Do you think that that card has transcended the hobby because of its impact on culture and Americana more than any other card ever in the history of trading?
00:31:03.040 I would say it's probably, to me, the three most well-known cards of all time, I'd have to say, would be that card, the T206 Wagner, the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, because that's such an iconic card and iconic image.
00:31:17.760 Is that rookie year?
00:31:19.440 It's actually his second year, but it's the first Topps card.
00:31:23.600 And then the 1986 Fleer Jordan, because everybody knows that card,
00:31:29.000 which also was his third year in the NBA, but it's a rookie.
00:31:33.380 Wait, wait, wait, really?
00:31:34.360 Yes.
00:31:34.900 I have a PSA 10 in that, but I thought it was a real rookie.
00:31:37.260 It is.
00:31:38.220 It's considered a rookie because it's the first time, you know,
00:31:41.980 trading cards are technical.
00:31:43.180 It's the first time that any Michael Jordan was issued in a pack.
00:31:47.760 yo that actually makes sense because my wwe rookie card yep is actually not my rookie year
00:31:54.220 yep that's exactly why okay and there's what you're saying it happens yeah were there card
00:32:01.080 were there cards of jordan that were issued before that out of like no yeah so this tiny
00:32:07.240 this tiny little company in cherry hill new jersey where i actually grew up um had an nba
00:32:13.820 license in 1984 called star and they issued cards in team set bags and you could just buy the whole
00:32:19.780 set and they made like 5 000 uh or so of every of every team so but that you because you were
00:32:26.600 guaranteed a jordan and you can buy the bulls or you can buy the 76ers or you can buy the pistons
00:32:32.500 it's not it wasn't until recently that that card got the proper respect that it deserves today as
00:32:39.260 the official yeah but but to me you asked about the wagner i'm gonna this is this was in my entire
00:32:45.820 business of people dropping millions of dollars this was the craziest story of somebody who
00:32:52.080 absolutely i don't want to say had no clue i will say had no experience and just had a lot of money
00:32:57.220 um and they made he made an amazing purchase in 2013 i got my first wagner it was a um it was a
00:33:07.400 which and it was uh called the jumbo wagner and the record for a card being sold back then was
00:33:14.280 1.6 million at auction to show you how much time changed so we got the card and we put out a big
00:33:22.400 thing and i'm on cnbc talking about it and you know this guy registers to bid and contacts me
00:33:28.180 and say hey my name is x um can i meet you in new york i see you're in town um with the card
00:33:34.680 and i said okay am i gonna get mugged or am i gonna meet some rich dude so i met the guy and um
00:33:41.120 he said oh i just registered today i'm gonna bid and i said it's great i said do you own any other
00:33:46.120 cards he goes no i said i said you don't own a single card he goes nope i said what makes you
00:33:51.460 interested in this card he goes well in school my son is reading this book a kid's book called
00:33:58.920 honus and me and it's about like a kid's version of the t206 honus wagner card and that's why he
00:34:06.180 bought the course this guy dropped 2.1 million dollars because his he thought it was cool that
00:34:11.300 his son was reading the book does that piss you off does it does it upset you a little bit when
00:34:16.480 like ultra wealthy people come to the hobby because they see an investment or a storyline 0.60
00:34:21.440 that involves their past life but they're not super interested in the hobby if i did not if
00:34:28.860 i was not the founder and ceo of golden yeah it probably would because if you're taken away from
00:34:34.120 somebody else but here here's the punchline what happened was is that this guy ended up loving
00:34:40.080 cards uh since then he bought a high grade 52 mantle from me um he's bought a babe ruth rookie
00:34:46.740 he's bought a bunch of the iconic cards and oh so here's the funny thing so we we have to credit
00:34:52.680 check people so we credit check them and you know he sent in because that's the one thing we do
00:34:59.520 that that why bidders and consignors love us is because somebody with 400 somebody a lot of these
00:35:05.640 places somebody with 400 in their bank account can place a 50 000 bid oh i you know then they
00:35:11.940 joke about like i hope i don't win i don't know how i'm gonna pay so we check and the guy sends
00:35:16.460 us an account um and it's got like 35 million dollars in it but you know my accountant says
00:35:24.040 well this is um this is a two-year-old statement do you have anything current so he sends us a new
00:35:30.480 statement it's got nine figures in it and i'm just like okay you can bid on anything you want
00:35:35.780 but but but these are the type of guys and this was 2013 before the so-called big money went into
00:35:41.380 the hobby you know him and i opened up two of those 115 year old cigarette packs about what
00:35:48.540 like 100 000 about 100 000 worth of old cigarette packs 38 000 a pack is what it cost me we were
00:35:56.420 we were trying to get a t206 wagner bro okay let's let's let's let's unpack this really quick
00:36:04.100 okay how many of those wagner cards are quote unquote out there because i want to ask you this
00:36:10.320 question one how many packs are left and then two how do you track the idea and the the per chance
00:36:18.160 that grandma gertrude in her attic has one of these you know what i'm saying like how do you
00:36:24.700 know what's actually out there yep okay so i believe there's 34 that are graded and authenticated
00:36:33.020 c206 onus wagons i believe that's the that's the title the number across all the companies
00:36:37.420 um i believe there are zero packs because it was interesting you know put in like literally
00:36:44.600 logan saw like anybody look for example um episode two king and collectibles golden touch
00:36:51.040 this season look at episode two you will see us open up a pack of cigarettes and you'll see what
00:36:57.620 we get um but i don't think there's any car i don't think there's any i think it's probably
00:37:01.640 less than 20 of those unopened packs of cigarettes that exist in the world and out of all those um
00:37:07.840 i'm not sure any of them have cards and certainly guaranteed none of them have a wagner
00:37:12.060 guaranteed because here's the thing like we talk about the illuminati like what if some rothschild
00:37:17.240 is sitting on 400 packs of these things like how do you know well i guess what you don't know you
00:37:23.120 don't know so it doesn't affect the market right in in my 30 years in the past 30 years there's
00:37:29.080 never been a honus wagner that was brought to market that nobody knew about that wasn't
00:37:35.320 previously documented everybody has known about every single wagner for the past 30 years and
00:37:41.200 for the past 13 years since i founded golden every time somebody says they've got a wagner
00:37:46.080 and they tell me it's not graded it's fake until this year oh until this year because
00:37:54.560 we were lucky enough while we were filming this season somebody contacted us and said that they
00:38:05.060 had a Wagner it wasn't graded and we said I told my assistant no it's fake and she said well they
00:38:10.220 want to send a picture so they sent a picture and it wasn't a picture of a Wagner it was a picture
00:38:15.980 of a frame and in the frame were all the Pittsburgh Pirates from that set and that's 1909 that's a
00:38:23.760 T-206 and Wagner was a pirate. And I looked in and I took my phone. I scrolled it out and looked at
00:38:29.580 Wagner. I'm like, holy shit, that looks good. And I'm like, I hopped a plane to California. 0.99
00:38:36.620 I saw these two old men. They were both, I think, probably 80 to 86 years old. They were brothers.
00:38:45.160 And their grandfather was a huge collector. And their grandfather was about 11 years old
00:38:51.320 in 1909 and their grandfather had hundreds of tobacco cards that he as an 11 year old kid
00:39:02.460 went to the store and opened these frigging packs no i contacted psa psa said no there's no one no 0.95
00:39:11.220 you don't have one i said i sent him the picture and he goes holy shit i gotta show that to my 0.98
00:39:17.260 head of grading so we take the frame in they show it to the head of grading the guy took that takes 0.61
00:39:24.220 a half a second look and he goes it's good and the president goes don't you want to take it out
00:39:28.720 of the frame he goes no it's good it's good it's good it's good so we went back and i filmed for
00:39:34.940 two hours with these brothers no edits no stopping that we just filmed getting their story how these
00:39:43.560 survived, how they survived with nobody in the entire world knowing that they've got $10 million
00:39:49.700 plus of cards in a frigging frame, in multiple frames. And we took the card out. We got it
00:40:01.440 graded. And PSA has kept that card off the population report until the new season of
00:40:09.740 and collectibles launched because they knew how important that would be but that's that's on to
00:40:16.480 me it's a once in a lifetime opportunity but it's really crazy that it happened to be you know it
00:40:22.080 happened to occur during that six-month window we were filming the show so it was an out of out of
00:40:27.900 body experience dude i'm getting goosebumps because it's like dude think about what that
00:40:31.960 card has survived like the time that the changing of the seasons wars like
00:40:37.560 there's one question yeah oh yeah what was the grade what did it get graded um it they
00:40:43.480 well in typical psa fashion i thought it was going to get a two and it got a psa one but but
00:40:50.080 it's it's it's probably going to sell it could sell for six seven million dollars because oh
00:40:56.880 It's the only one of these that has ever existed in the same family.
00:41:01.480 And guess what they did?
00:41:03.720 They gave it its own pedigree.
00:41:06.440 So any card from that find is the Shields family collection.
00:41:12.540 Will they sell it for more as a set or as an individual card?
00:41:17.620 We're doing the Wagner and we're doing some of the other cards from the collection in January in a vintage auction.
00:41:25.640 And, you know, we're telling the world about it, you know, as soon as the show went live.
00:41:30.440 But this is people like when people like when did you film this in October?
00:41:35.060 And I'm like, no, in June.
00:41:37.200 And you're like, how the hell do people keep a secret for six months?
00:41:40.660 Because nobody knows about this.
00:41:42.860 Incredible.
00:41:43.520 Ken, who are the people that are buying from you?
00:41:46.840 Like, like, I know there's some high end collectors and celebrity profiles that are buying from you.
00:41:52.000 Like, I'm sure you have some crazy stories.
00:41:53.740 Yep.
00:41:54.400 Yep.
00:41:54.760 So.
00:41:55.040 So, you know, typical people, just hobbyists, doctors, lawyers, investment bankers, a lot
00:42:03.520 of people in the financial industry buy.
00:42:06.560 And then you've got the athletes and the celebrities.
00:42:10.340 You've got, you know, celebrities that occasionally buy.
00:42:14.840 There was a celebrity that registered for the auction about four years ago to get something
00:42:20.880 for her husband and did not win that item.
00:42:25.040 And I'm like, how the hell did she not win it?
00:42:27.160 How the hell did she not win?
00:42:28.260 I'm like, and this is not like a $5 million item.
00:42:30.760 It was a six figure.
00:42:31.600 I'm like, how the hell did she not win?
00:42:33.460 But then two years passes, two years passed by
00:42:36.720 and something that obviously interested her came up
00:42:41.960 and she won it.
00:42:43.720 And I'm looking at, oh my God, this is great.
00:42:45.440 But we can't, we never tell anybody
00:42:46.960 unless they go out there and show the world what they buy.
00:42:50.980 Luckily for me, this, the most followed woman
00:42:53.780 in the world on social media decided to show on her tv show and her instagram what she bought
00:43:01.820 and it was kim kardashian when she bought oj simpson's bible that you know that was
00:43:07.680 the robert kardashian bible that he inscribed and gifted to oj when he was arrested and he
00:43:14.020 gave it to him in jail to keep the hope um the um one guy who people who does buy from me that i can
00:43:21.000 say because he appeared in season one and he posts the stuff um online is drake drake um
00:43:28.400 he outbid me on a bob ross yes and you didn't know it at the time i was like dying and this is
00:43:33.780 this is like the is that how that works when i'm at dinner yeah by the way a little tipsy i like
00:43:38.260 i like bidding when i'm like have a good time i'm at dinner i'm bidding on this bob ross and bro
00:43:42.740 someone outbid me and it was way above estimate i believe it was like we were like the highest 0.91
00:43:46.740 bob ross was the highest bob ross ever i'm like who the fuck could this be yeah are you like 0.68
00:43:50.600 behind the scenes like it's drake and logan i'm like dying i'm like yes you can see of course 0.97
00:43:57.440 of course i see that's crazy and i'm like oh oh shit i wish i can call one of them and say 0.55
00:44:01.980 i can't do it as a consignor but i'm not gonna call you and say logan you're not gonna win
00:44:06.460 i mean i've got protocol so i could never and until he posted it yeah you know i knew obviously
00:44:14.420 you you posted that you lost it and nina had to get you a different one yeah you know and um but
00:44:21.080 so drake won that um drake famously opened god it was like a million plus with me in toronto yeah
00:44:30.680 you guys crushed it yeah it was we we got all the jordan rookies we didn't find the triple logo man
00:44:34.740 but what drake made his first purchase from gold i did not know it was drake so this guy and it was
00:44:42.320 like dream corp and um was the main i guess it was his manager i don't want to mention his name
00:44:47.140 um and we had this tupac letter and this tupac letter was from prison and it was a six page
00:44:57.240 letter it was probably the most iconic thing people it was rumored that that's what got him
00:45:02.140 murdered because it was against thug life and it was talking and writing to the you know the the
00:45:06.900 the the you know male black youth of america about how they should act and how they should 0.66
00:45:13.840 treat women basically everything against like what the gangster hip-hop was so this guy was bidding 0.65
00:45:20.220 and i get a phone call at like two in the morning says can you stop the auction and i'm like no
00:45:25.900 and he goes do you know who i am and i said yeah it says your name right here is blank
00:45:30.000 he goes and you're currently leading the auction he goes well can you stop it he goes no i said
00:45:33.920 do you know who i represent i go no he goes well i'm drake's manager and i go okay he goes couldn't
00:45:41.720 you stop it now and i'm like no it's like it's this clock i can't violate it and he goes well
00:45:47.520 i can't reach drake and if we get outbid we're gonna lose and he's gonna be pissed off at me
00:45:52.780 he goes i this is i'm at his limit so he got outbid and um he lost it and i ended up finding
00:46:00.540 him another really really cool tupac piece on my own just called him up and say hey this was
00:46:05.720 for consignment i spoke to the consigner and he said that you could um i can sell privately as
00:46:11.080 drake interested they were very appreciative and i guess um about a year later they gave me a list
00:46:16.900 of 42 items that drake wanted to buy to outfit his place from all worlds of sports you know from
00:46:23.960 a lewis hamilton piece to and this was when when did zion get asked zion was what 2019 so this had
00:46:31.140 to be 2019 because he won the toughest one was a zion signed duke jersey while he was in college
00:46:37.880 and could not be paid because there was no nil yeah so that was um you know that was drake but
00:46:43.740 a ton of athletes um you know tyrese halliburton is a uh is a big collector yannis i met yannis
00:46:51.840 because i sold his card for 185 million and then you know the next day i just get a dm and i'm
00:46:57.680 click it up and it's got the check marks and next to it he goes just thank you ken um because he
00:47:03.580 broke lebron's record and then he just like hops in all the time i'm auctioning an item and he goes
00:47:09.220 oh can i have that i'm like can you buy it it's four hundred thousand dollars he can buy it yeah
00:47:15.920 so wait so where does so that's interesting because i didn't think about the the tupac
00:47:20.160 letter type stuff but like where is like the end of your collectibles range like i'm a big pink
00:47:25.960 floyd guy okay so i actually got in touch with it's the one collectible i've ever bought i got
00:47:31.020 in touch with storm thorgason who did all of the album covers for pink floyd and i bought a one of
00:47:36.900 one artist print built off of the the actual negative from 1975 for wish you were here for
00:47:43.040 the album cover of the one guy on fire shaking hands it was shot burbank studios and they built
00:47:48.140 this artist print off of it so that type of stuff interests me so you might have another buyer not
00:47:52.960 at the same level as him or drake but you know where like where's your range so you've got sports
00:47:58.420 you've got pokemon i know you love beanie babies like where what else do you have oh look we we are
00:48:05.140 anything that could be collectible so you've heard the chaos now you can see it

00:50:01.440 Like I'm not even average
00:50:02.360 I'm not even passing
00:50:03.180 I'm failing
00:50:03.920 Listen to No Safe Words

00:50:15.780 You unfortunately missed an opportunity to get a lot of great Pink Floyd stuff
00:50:19.620 because we had a rock and roll rock memorabilia auction about six weeks ago.
00:50:25.340 We set a record for the highest price Nirvana item ever sold.
00:50:28.620 We set a record for the highest price ACDC item ever sold.
00:50:31.800 We set a record for the highest price Guns N' Roses item ever sold.
00:50:35.280 And these are, we sold from autographed photos to concert and studio worn items, concert and studio played items, graded albums, graded cassettes.
00:50:48.540 We had the initial test track that Kurt Cobain laid down.
00:50:53.980 And it was like no markings, no nothing, just, you know, it was authenticated.
00:50:59.400 I think it may have gone for about $100,000.
00:51:02.400 and just it's just crazy crazy stuff so you've got sports cards sports memorabilia comic books
00:51:10.420 tcg you know pokemon of course you know magic magic the gathering everything else involved
00:51:17.320 like that you know the the disney brand as well you know star wars world of warcraft
00:51:22.560 world of warcraft star wars sci-fi um i have to know yes what is the most expensive pokemon item
00:51:30.840 that you've sold the most expensive pokemon you're gonna love if you don't know you're gonna
00:51:35.220 love this um we've sold a pokemon card for two million dollars and do you know what that was
00:51:44.520 that was the pokemon pikachu illustrator in a psa nine wow nine yeah you're right i like that
00:51:55.340 In a nine, baby.
00:51:57.120 Can you imagine what a 10 would be worth?
00:51:59.360 Yes.
00:52:01.120 Typically.
00:52:02.020 That's crazy.
00:52:02.880 Typically, depending on the card, the nine is going to be from one-fifth to one-tenth the value of a 10.
00:52:14.500 Can you say who bought it?
00:52:15.460 um i can tell you that that sale was in the final episode of king of collectibles season two
00:52:26.980 so if if you're out there on netflix watching season three you got to go back watch the old
00:52:32.320 episodes but that story behind it i will tell you it was somebody in japan interesting yes well
00:52:38.640 we obviously have a a pretty crazy thing we have a better card we have the we have the it's the car
00:52:45.920 it is the most considering how pokemon dwarfs sports cards it is the most coveted card uh in
00:52:56.120 the world i i don't disagree yeah uh well it's also my card currently but yeah i'm on i'm on
00:53:02.880 season three of collectibles um you have been trying to get me to sell this card for a while
00:53:09.620 yep on season one yes you were like hey yep if you ever want to sell it and at the time i wasn't
00:53:15.280 ready yep and then i hit ken up and after buying a new house and having a child and spending just
00:53:24.700 an irresponsible amount of money on the wedding i looked you ain't got no liquidity i'm poor
00:53:30.200 and so i i i i kind of took a while to admit to myself i think i'm ready to move this card
00:53:36.980 um who better to sell it with than you you know i will say of course i did chop it around
00:53:42.200 you gave me the best deal yeah and it's on season three of king of collectibles um
00:53:49.980 so this is it this is it ken oh here we go this is the the the one-on-one psa 10 pikachu illustrator
00:53:56.160 yep holy grail of pokemon cards yep um my baby i hunted for years and and now i'm i'm moving with
00:54:02.920 you yep because you gave me a you gave me a healthy offer on netflix yes i did i couldn't
00:54:08.140 refuse i i and and people if people watch that yes that was a real check yes that's what i said
00:54:16.500 that was a that was an actual real check that was a real check yes it cash you you this is
00:54:21.760 already sold again no it's it's it's consigned it's consigned to golden what i did was i gave
00:54:27.600 him a cash advance and typically you know we look at the value and we give a fraction of the value
00:54:33.760 a portion of the value as a cash advance this way logan can take care of expenses until the card
00:54:39.300 sells which will be um you know it'll go live um you know you know it's it's live up on the site
00:54:45.160 now uh just for in a preview but in you know the auction will go live um around january 12th
00:54:52.120 january 12th january 12th and we're going to uh conclude i believe it's february 15th which is
00:54:58.360 right when uh 30th anniversary of pokemon i mean ken this this this card uh means a lot to me i
00:55:04.460 set a guinness world record yeah with the sale of this car with the purchase of this card it's a
00:55:08.860 guinness world record setting card yep i i wore this card out to my wrestlemania debut yep and
00:55:14.180 And every time I look at it, I just feel the connection I have with Pokemon.
00:55:19.820 And I have to say, like, two weeks ago, I was having some seller's remorse.
00:55:27.200 I had to have a real dialogue with myself about whether or not I actually wanted to sell it.
00:55:32.420 And I played out the scenario in my head of, like, approaching you and saying, like, hey, here's your advance back.
00:55:40.700 Can I get the card?
00:55:41.940 but uh after having some conversation and sleeping on it for a few nights i decided i
00:55:47.440 want to move forward with it yeah um but yeah i'm definitely like i'm pretty excited for the
00:55:53.780 auction in general because i know besides this card yeah we're trying to make this the best
00:55:59.740 pokemon auction of the generation correct i'll probably be buying some of the other stuff in
00:56:04.820 the i know a couple pieces you'll probably be buying yeah yeah dude you know what else is in 0.62
00:56:09.140 the auction you're not gonna fucking believe this i saw it last night what is it all right 0.81
00:56:13.320 you know the charizard that we pulled in our break it got graded a psa 10 yep yep has the 0.90
00:56:19.220 logan paul break on it yep the guy who got it will creasy the australian guy who also got a
00:56:24.360 psa 10 venusaur first edition break logan paul break is on the auction he's moving those two
00:56:30.480 cards and the venusaur so the trio the the starters charizard blast source and venusaur 0.89
00:56:35.880 all in psa 10 all with the logan paul break pedigree that we fucking there goes your liquidity 0.91
00:56:40.660 yeah yeah i know i told him i'm like i'm gonna be i'm gonna be bidding on this and look it's 0.95
00:56:45.820 we'll have outside the illustrator like we literally are gonna the auction is gonna do
00:56:51.720 literally another 10 million dollars maybe 20 million dollars because look i am and i use this
00:56:58.320 word when i was talking to logan i use this word he goes holy shit that's how i that's how i just
00:57:03.120 describe myself i'm people like in the industry have referred to me as like the pt barnum of
00:57:10.280 marketing because i just pull out nothing to me is off limits i just want to promote my company
00:57:16.360 i want to promote my consignor's items i want to do anything and everything i can to get them the
00:57:21.280 highest price because if i get you know if i'm selling a key item and i get a shitty price
00:57:26.460 you know i'm not going to get a similar item like that in the future so um you know this auction is
00:57:32.660 going to be the biggest thing literally since uh you know first edition pokemon came out i uh i
00:57:40.000 want to be live streaming yep while breaking a first edition box okay as the auction is happening
00:57:46.660 okay so i can both see the final sale price of my card yep on live and then also potentially
00:57:52.940 bid on the other people i'm bidding right now as well where are you gonna be i don't know yet
00:57:58.480 but it's gonna happen right before the 30th anniversary of pokemon and if you remember
00:58:02.440 the box breaks we did five years ago was the 25th anniversary yep and so it's gonna be kind of this
00:58:07.520 cool like full circle moment and i actually i actually blame you for my recent affinity towards
00:58:13.760 breaking boxes because we got together uh when we did this deal yep and broke some boxes and bro i
00:58:20.340 got the bug again yeah i got that like the collectible nostalgia bug but crept up on me 0.92
00:58:25.880 bit me in the ass you know when we travel for wwe yep first thing we've been doing we'll land in 0.72
00:58:32.000 these cities we look up the local a local card shop and we just go clean up pokemon boxes bro 0.99
00:58:36.620 and we just break backstage we're just ripping backstage can i can't stop he was doing an f1
00:58:42.360 see if i've got those 2003 if i don't have the 2003 tens they're in they're in the car
00:58:50.840 can we do some cards if you buy this card do you get the case and chain and stuff that's like you
00:58:58.300 get everything i mean to me look it's it's you know it's it's i can't look it was it was the key
00:59:04.900 card wait ken yes can i can i hand deliver it to the buyer that would be amazing if you want to do
00:59:10.260 i would love to i would love to do that we will i'm gonna put that in there i would what's my
00:59:14.880 staff you're hearing this right so you know how to write i swear i swear well bro to me yes this
00:59:19.940 thing is sacred yeah when i bought this from dubzy yeah the the purchase was like an experience we
00:59:26.160 went to dinner we played pool i was in dubai which it was the whole thing was an experience yes it
00:59:31.260 was it was cool for me as a buyer to have that as well as the actual card yeah and so for the
00:59:37.060 next buyer and i can't imagine this car is going to exchange hands much after this purchase like
00:59:41.860 it'll probably be it may it may never move again so i would like to make an experience for them so
00:59:47.860 they have the memory the energy shift we almost died buying this car there's a whole story yeah
00:59:53.340 yeah it was a why don't bring my bag apart if it's if you don't see it it would be the main

01:02:00.440 no no no I mean like
01:02:01.560 I can't even get on the C-list like I'm not even average I'm not even passing
01:02:04.240 I'm failing

01:02:07.740 part of My Cultura Podcast Network
01:02:10.200 available on the iHeartRadio app
01:02:12.420 Apple Podcast
01:02:13.460 or wherever you get your podcast uh it's a good question i think the absolute lowest i would
01:02:21.560 probably start the bidding you know unless people tell me no just let more people sometimes the
01:02:25.620 staff just start at a penny yeah start at a penny start at a penny i was i was gonna start at a
01:02:29.400 million no no no start at a penny where do you think it's gonna where do you think it's gonna
01:02:34.760 land um it's it's gonna go my goal my goal is to be able to challenge the you know the all-time
01:02:43.780 price of a trading card which right now I believe is 12.6 million got it that is that to me I would
01:02:51.160 go out I would party I would celebrate I'd feel accomplished like I did a good job because people
01:02:58.600 may say wait it's not sports but i look at things from a financial basis like i sold that shohei
01:03:05.160 otani 50 50 ball for 4.4 million when i started at 500 000 people in the industry thought i was 0.66
01:03:11.340 fucking nuts they said what who cares who cares i said no you don't understand the importance of 0.61
01:03:16.740 shohei otani and that's what i'm talking about here people don't understand the importance the 0.99
01:03:23.520 cultural impact and the fanaticism that goes into pokemon collectors and the fact that these people
01:03:30.560 who were playing and you know whether whether it's you know playing the game back in the late
01:03:35.620 1990s early 2000s whether it was like my daughter my older daughter like laura walking around
01:03:41.560 bumping into shipping she's walking the street with doing pokemon go when that was a big thing
01:03:46.900 And this is the iconic card.
01:03:50.020 This is the Mona Lisa of all Pokemon collectibles.
01:03:53.680 So I think somebody can lay out a really, really big number
01:03:57.580 that's going to shock people.
01:03:59.460 Yeah.
01:04:00.120 Wow.
01:04:00.480 I'm excited.
01:04:01.240 And Logan is buying everybody in here a steak dinner when that happens.
01:04:04.340 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:04:04.980 I'll do it.
01:04:05.420 I'll do it.
01:04:05.820 Nice.
01:04:07.060 Hopefully at Blackstones.
01:04:08.460 Yeah.
01:04:09.100 I'm really excited.
01:04:10.840 I got my guys at Polymarket to put up a Polymarket
01:04:15.220 about what people think it'll sell for but yeah i think i think i'm gonna put the uh the yes no
01:04:20.420 the over under for five million okay will it sell for more will it sell for less okay i'm really
01:04:25.880 curious what people what people will think they can't buy that they can buy something else from
01:04:30.400 the same auction we'll see man can they can they do that what do you what do you think that that
01:04:37.500 uh first edition logan paul break charizard will go for psa 10 oh god look it's probably the best
01:04:44.680 one so um what's the record for charizard i think you just said it 550 i think you just said yeah
01:04:51.700 550 550 a first edition charizard just sold for 550 000 okay let's rewind for a second
01:05:01.440 five years ago i marched into king gary's house and gave him 150 000 cash for that same car
01:05:09.680 and one just sold for 550 000 first off gary thank you thank you so much but
01:05:18.420 i think with this one i'm curious because it has the that pedigree on the logan paul break there's
01:05:25.260 video of it being correct and that's it might be it might be the most recent charizard to get
01:05:30.680 graded a 10 yep from a box break i'm just so eager and i hope i'm the buyer of it i hope i'm
01:05:37.940 the buyer of it this whole thing's so exciting to me ken and just like what did you think about all
01:05:42.700 the pokemon hype when it first started were you a fan of it like when it was first when it first
01:05:47.620 came out um you know look part of me like hey it's something else to sell but to me i didn't get it
01:05:54.540 okay i didn't i didn't get it because that was not my era i was i was sports the you know the
01:06:02.340 games that i played were typically you know i played fantasy sports when it was in in cards
01:06:09.100 and you know things like that and people kept you know it wasn't even online right so that that was
01:06:13.520 that was me and but you know as i've talked to as i've talked to the people and as i've as i've
01:06:19.760 seen what goes on and you know as even my own kids i mean when my you know when paul was was
01:06:28.480 you know six and wearing uh pokemon pajamas okay and everything like that i'm saying oh my god this
01:06:33.680 is like a massive brand to me like the biggest equivalent to me is is like star wars okay where
01:06:41.040 what do people pay for the best of the best stuff uh for star wars and you know if you had um you
01:06:49.600 know luke skywalker's um lightsaber from the original you know a new hope what would that go
01:06:55.380 for it and you're probably looking about 25 million dollars it would you know compete with
01:06:59.720 the ruby red slippers and that's what this is and it's crazy because actually like when you look at
01:07:03.760 the value of brands like the pokemon brands are actually stronger i mean pokemon's the most yeah
01:07:08.080 pokemon's number one or number two no not highest grossing franchise in history wasn't it hello
01:07:13.560 kitty i think hello kitty's next the difference is astronomical though and i'm sure this stuff
01:07:18.840 is driving the the pokemon brand even higher they're also in my opinion crushing it in terms
01:07:25.280 of the tcg yeah their their their releases the cards that are everything about it is just so
01:07:31.460 good i think that i think the games could use a little more um character and touch i played some
01:07:39.960 of the more recent games and i didn't get it didn't give me that like that that like feeling
01:07:43.840 i had when i was a kid um i think that i think they need to work on the storylines a little bit
01:07:47.880 but like it's just such a massive company there's like three or four branches of it a lot of
01:07:52.820 decision makers but the tcg the r the collectibles merch media behind it it's to me man it's just i
01:07:59.760 mean you know how i feel about pokemon like i it was i had a big moment a couple weeks ago when my
01:08:04.920 daughter chose her starter pokemon oh wow it was it was it was a it was uh man it was something she
01:08:10.520 i had a magikarp set off to the side and she she she approached the charmando she approached the
01:08:18.200 charmander the squirtle and the bulbasaur and and then she just that magic carp that orange 0.97
01:08:24.120 fucking stupid fish caught her eye uh-huh and then she she looked down at the squirtle and she 0.99
01:08:28.780 looked back and i'm like she's gonna choose squirtle i have a squirtle tattoo she just went 1.00
01:08:34.700 to the magic carp was she instructed to go for that was there somebody off she's 14 months no
01:08:39.800 but was there someone off scene like pointing at it or something no no one is no she was waving a
01:08:44.560 little toy behind she chose the magic carp and i and i just thought man like all he knows is splash
01:08:51.320 and it doesn't even inflict damage but it does but you know what magic carp revolves into gyarados
01:08:58.140 a big beautiful water dragon and and it was an investment in her future and you know i see that
01:09:04.620 now i see that now she's wise beyond her years and i'm proud of her decision amazing how much
01:09:10.060 are these boxes worth i don't know oh i only ask because dude you guys been throwing around some
01:09:16.180 crazy i would love to buy a new camry so like is there you know hey do you know how much you know
01:09:21.160 how much wax we've cracked the the amount of about you i'm trying to make a come up right now
01:09:26.300 yeah yeah i know let me let me get one of these these are under these these are under a thousand
01:09:30.880 okay however here's the difference okay the difference is that i believe yep unlike last
01:09:38.840 night when we opened up some stuff um on ebay live and didn't get any successful big cards from
01:09:44.220 2003 yeah uh these are guaranteed an autograph in each of these two so that means you know like
01:09:51.480 literally we can pull a six-figure lebron card potentially a six-figure sign michael jordan or 0.69
01:09:57.760 kobe bryant card right now right now right now give me that shit so here we go 0.95
01:10:02.060 my ripping's gotten pretty good uh ken what's the difference between the boxes 0.97
01:10:10.820 nothing just different color different they want different designs one people collect every every
01:10:15.780 type 10 these are the 10 just one it's just one one oh souped up pack oh it's not even in a package
01:10:21.120 just in a plastic wrapper that you can see through what do we got
01:10:24.300 should i go with arenas should i open the number to 100 yeah yeah open it you open it there's
01:10:31.680 multiple inside right yeah okay i know logan knows i'm not very good at ripping i don't what's the
01:10:38.340 proper tactic all right here we go to not damage the car yeah i got that gillarin is to 100
01:10:43.900 my autograph is carlos boozer okay that's that it's carlos he's pretty good he had a nice career
01:10:52.960 carlos boozer very good all right wow there's only three or four kids you'll never believe
01:10:59.720 you'll never believe what my autograph is huh dude from the nugget you'll never believe what
01:11:03.720 my autograph is kirby pocket no i wish it was kirby pocket oh no big kirby pocket guy dude okay
01:11:09.340 carlos boozer oh no no yeah i think they want there's we're in miami a lot of boozing going on
01:11:16.440 dude oh my god double boozer dude boozer rhymes with only one word 0.96
01:11:21.840 oh god damn he was he was a really good yeah no boozer no no boozer was a player 0.98
01:11:28.160 unsigned that's crazy nothing do you wait carmel anthony i'm gonna be honest i don't have this 0.99
01:11:34.060 leave these and get them out on my fucking face i got stick navas cavalli davinci cavalli and i 0.96
01:11:40.000 got a jason richards card yo real quick 60 of people watching this are not subscribed i can't 0.99
01:11:45.680 believe what if you've made it this far you clearly mess with impulsive subscribing literally helps
01:11:50.380 us bring on insane guests and keeps the show getting better so please hit the subscribe button
01:11:54.240 let's get back to it what's the most expensive thing you own
01:11:57.300 most expensive thing i own um it's probably my 1927 a 60 home run season game use babe ruth bat
01:12:11.240 that came directly from his wife, Claire Ruth, PSA 10.
01:12:17.420 It's a bat?
01:12:18.520 It's a bat.
01:12:19.240 It's a game-used bat that he used during his greatest season ever
01:12:24.100 when he hit 60 home runs in 1927,
01:12:27.500 and it's the only known Ruth bat that has provenance
01:12:31.640 directly from his wife after he passed.
01:12:34.620 How much do you think that's worth?
01:12:37.880 It's over $2 million.
01:12:39.300 I don't know how far over $2 million it is.
01:12:41.240 What does a PSA 9 Babe Ruth bat look like?
01:12:45.520 Well, PSA, look, a lot of it depends on what it is.
01:12:49.640 That's the key with bats is bats is, you know, bats are like jerseys.
01:12:54.900 They are so specific.
01:12:56.720 Like a Kobe Bryant jersey can sell for $90,000, a photo match Kobe Bryant jersey.
01:13:03.880 It's probably higher than that now, but let's just say $100,000.
01:13:07.320 but if you have the right moment of his career the iconic moment that people remember and
01:13:12.440 you know vibe with it could be a four million dollar jersey like this was the jersey you wore
01:13:16.920 when exactly like if you had his 81 point game jersey yeah you know that could approach 10
01:13:21.900 million dollars wow you ever sell dinosaurs um i we we yes yes we have uh we had a um triceratops
01:13:31.720 unfortunately had a reserve it didn't hit but we had one in the golden 100 and i've got a i've got
01:13:37.080 a friend who bought he made i don't know if he owns the record still or not but who bought the
01:13:42.380 most expensive dinosaur huh ken griffin no it must be a private sale then it was it was this is
01:13:50.140 somebody who's not not as well known as ken griffin and he bought a dinosaur in a private sale more
01:13:55.560 than 44.6 million oh he bought he bought his for 38.7 so that must have been there he his record
01:14:02.000 was broken what was it it was a uh tyrannosaurus rex holy smokes yes holy smokes yes dinosaurs are
01:14:10.980 going crazy yes they are dinosaurs are going crazy man we it's just a funny oh and anything
01:14:16.680 it's just a funny thing to say like as an outright sentence i mean and you were asking like what else
01:14:20.880 we're gonna do you know what i'm saying it's just like think about the sentence itself like dinosaurs
01:14:25.180 are going crazy it is why not they're going nuts dude they're not when when whole jurassic park
01:14:32.120 stuff came out you know like amber and all that stuff was like going crazy like people were like
01:14:37.780 trying to find all this old thing and see if there's see if there's something in it but yeah
01:14:41.760 it's it's you know people oh look people are fascinated by the past i look at collectibles
01:14:47.020 and you know what everything is whether it's a card whether it's a bat whether it's a jersey
01:14:53.160 whether it's a comic book whether it's my watch there are moments in time they're pieces of
01:14:58.900 history and somebody buying and owning it is really a caretaker of that part of history
01:15:05.380 ken griffin yes bought apex the stegosaurus for 44.6 million dollars yep you know i visited apex
01:15:14.320 myself wow thought i had a chance the estimate was only four to six million yeah dude i'm sitting
01:15:20.600 more like 46 million seriously like no i'm sitting there and i'm like dude i'm gonna win 0.67
01:15:25.200 this fucking stegazord yeah had a whole marketing plan for it was gonna go tour museums around the 0.85
01:15:30.840 world i'm thinking i'd get it for like four five five five yeah and bro the price just keeps 0.99
01:15:35.280 shooting up and up and up and a 30 million 35 ends up selling for 44.6 million that's normally
01:15:43.800 the way he rolls is public auction and significantly higher than people expected to go
01:15:49.480 i mean that's at 10x the estimate yeah on sotheby's for him it's an apple pay no actually 0.87
01:15:55.180 he's so fucking rich don't care dude he had a gangster quote too when when he bought it it was 0.98
01:16:02.260 like fuck logan paul yes yes that was his like last statement no what he said no he said uh 0.99
01:16:10.060 apex was found in america and it's staying in america and i think you put it in like the 0.99
01:16:15.080 american museum of natural history or like you know it's touring the museums in america which
01:16:19.000 Which is actually awesome.
01:16:21.440 But yeah, they're going crazy.
01:16:22.620 Better than you would have done with it.
01:16:24.100 You would have put a prime in its hand or something like that.
01:16:28.900 I had a whole marketing plan for it.
01:16:30.820 I was going to do a museum tour as well.
01:16:32.980 Yep.
01:16:33.560 Really?
01:16:33.960 Yeah.
01:16:34.720 I love a good museum, dude.
01:16:37.340 Well, dinosaurs are something to consider.
01:16:39.500 Dinosaurs are going crazy.
01:16:40.580 They're going crazy.
01:16:41.520 As long as you can get them.
01:16:42.860 Yeah, that is true.
01:16:43.700 Get them while you can, guys.
01:16:45.260 Hey, what about...
01:16:49.000 What about auction houses doing fraudulent stuff?
01:16:53.020 It seems like this might be coming a bit of a thing.
01:16:59.440 It was, God, people are going to hate me.
01:17:03.040 I think it was more of the norm in the early 2000s and 2000,
01:17:09.120 probably up until like 2011.
01:17:14.000 Because at the time, with this software that they had, auction houses,
01:17:19.000 you know it was software was primitive and it was all cookie cutter you know you get off the
01:17:24.700 off the rack so if somebody had a you know a max bid left in the system back then 15 years ago
01:17:31.160 most of these auction houses were able to see what it was and and that's how these that's how
01:17:36.560 people got in trouble because you know there were you know people would bid but nowadays
01:17:41.300 you know like for example at golden there's never been a day that we could see what somebody's
01:17:46.980 bidding okay so you can't see you can't see you we can't we can see only the real bid so so let's
01:17:51.860 say somebody something's at a thousand dollars somebody bids 1100 but this guy just really
01:17:56.780 wants the air to me just said you know something i'm going on vacation i'm going to put a five
01:18:00.560 thousand dollar max bid in yep you know so you know just like you do on you know like on ebay
01:18:05.300 where you put it in and and hope that nobody beats it over time yep so we would never know
01:18:10.800 and the auction will close oh really and we will never know that was in the system and that's the
01:18:16.140 way all software should be do you know if other auction houses do that um i believe that you know
01:18:22.820 i believe most auction houses right now unless they're conducting a live auction um they they
01:18:29.200 most auction houses and most software does not allow that to uh not allow people to see it but
01:18:34.820 back at the time when we had it done um you know zen auction which when we merged with collectors
01:18:40.380 that's what they did but even in 2012 um when i used another software system they said do you want
01:18:47.440 to say no we never want to see a max bid i don't i don't i don't want to deal with that crap i don't
01:18:51.680 want anyone ever say oh my god i got you know because people they put in the max bid and they're
01:18:56.280 magically they win the item one bid above their above one bid under their max or something like
01:19:02.740 that and they just think oh this is suspicious do you know that happened to me one bid under your
01:19:07.480 max yeah yeah probably you know my my guess would be is that you put a value on it and your value
01:19:14.680 is probably slightly higher than the next person's and that's what happens just randomly one thousand
01:19:20.380 one hundred and eleven dollars higher on you won the item or you lost it i won okay where'd you buy
01:19:28.240 it heritage okay i'm not gonna say anything negative about the competitors are you aware
01:19:34.840 of the situation
01:19:35.500 with my Michael Jordan Floor
01:19:36.860 I'm very aware
01:19:38.140 with your situation
01:19:38.960 with Michael Jordan Floor
01:19:39.940 and I'm glad
01:19:40.820 you didn't have to buy it
01:19:42.500 if you didn't want to
01:19:43.280 yeah me too
01:19:44.860 especially because
01:19:46.200 it's not what they said
01:19:47.140 it was
01:19:47.600 but
01:19:48.340 you know something
01:19:50.080 you ever use
01:19:51.700 ChatGPT
01:19:52.480 all the time
01:19:53.520 all the time
01:19:54.200 do you ever go to
01:19:55.040 ChatGPT
01:19:55.820 and ask
01:19:56.820 who is the most
01:19:57.980 knowledgeable person
01:19:59.020 in the collectibles
01:20:00.180 industry to see
01:20:00.880 what they say
01:20:01.460 no
01:20:01.960 you want to do it now
01:20:04.840 If it's not you, this flex has gone horribly wrong.
01:20:08.680 Okay, just type it in.

01:21:04.800 my wife said ChatGPT is now my girlfriend.
