00:00:00.000Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel 425 AM Wednesday, August the 5th. I hope you're having
00:00:08.080a great Wednesday, a fantastic week. I tip the big blue mug of coffee to you today. Thanks to
00:00:13.600everybody that has subscribed to the channel over the last couple of weeks. It's been going up quite
00:00:17.620quickly. If you could do that right now, I would appreciate it. Thank you very much. So I'm going
00:00:23.720to make this one really, really short this morning. I was out last night at an event with
00:00:27.980Jason Levine. Maxine Bernier was there. I interviewed Max. He was there to talk about
00:00:32.600what we can learn from the 1995 referendum. So I'll have that interview with Max probably later
00:00:39.380today around 11 o'clock. But there was something that popped up on my screen this morning when I
00:00:44.700looked at X. I look at X just briefly in the morning to maybe get some inspiration. And this
00:00:50.460certainly inspired me. Here is the tweet I saw from the Globe and Mail. Ottawa moves to list
00:00:55.480West Coast Pipeline as Project of National Interest, and Jason Kenney biting hook, line,
00:01:02.100and sinker. Progress! Oh, isn't this great? It's now been declared a national interest, a pipeline.
00:01:08.400So what I did this morning was I wrote something, and I just started writing this morning, and I
00:01:13.700hope you don't mind. It's right here on my screen. This isn't something off the top of my head.
00:01:19.020Sometimes I like to write, and this is what I wrote about the Project of National Interest.
00:01:23.960A project of national interest, what does that even mean? Are these words some kind of magic spell? Are these words some way of catalyzing investment in oil and gas and other projects?
00:01:37.880A good way to do that would be to just get out of the way, eliminate industrial carbon taxes, end the carbon capture utilization and storage boondoggle, stop making Alberta more expensive and uncompetitive, remove the laws still on the books.
00:01:52.440dare I say it again, get out of the way. Why is this ridiculous phrase used at all? Can't things
00:01:59.540just get done without Carney and the Liberals in Ottawa giving its blessing like they are gods
00:02:04.900proclaiming Alberta and Canada can be successful? Look, Alberta, it's a project of national interest.
00:02:11.620Poof! All is well. Other countries don't work like this. They don't need added bureaucracy
00:02:19.360and grand proclamations from on high to succeed. A project of national interest is important
00:02:25.340because it's the only way the Liberal government can make it look like they're actually accomplishing
00:02:30.460something. It's their modus operandi. Haven't done a thing? Proclaim Canada strong. Haven't
00:02:37.360done a thing? Say we'll build things faster than we've done in generations. Haven't done a thing?
00:02:43.220Announce a major projects office. Haven't done a thing? Reannounce projects that have already
00:02:48.600been announced. Haven't done a thing. Use the word catalyze. Haven't done a thing. Trump.
00:02:55.400Haven't done a thing. Make a speech at Davos. Haven't done a thing. Travel endlessly. Haven't
00:03:01.300done a thing. Repeat all of the above ad infinitum. Haven't done a thing. Sign an MOU. Haven't done a
00:03:08.460thing. Announce a pipeline with no investor. Haven't done a thing. Post endlessly on social
00:03:14.500media, all of the above. Haven't done a thing. Announce a project of national interest. Still
00:03:21.260haven't done a thing. Nothing is happening, so let's add another layer of bull. It's a project
00:03:26.800of national interest. It was a project of national interest 10 years ago. The world needs oil now.
00:03:34.120The pipeline might be completed five years from now. Might. It's government after all. Plus,
00:03:40.600this pipeline is still for the most part funded by you, upwards of $43 billion. When you hear
00:03:47.180that it is in your best interest, how about a national interest? I think about interest. The
00:03:53.080interest on our debt is a billion dollars a week and going up constantly, more than we spend on
00:03:58.840healthcare. Maybe we should tackle that in the national interest. How about we cut the bull and
00:04:04.980build something. Anything. Up next, an announcement of shovels in the ground. It will be in the
00:04:11.460national interest. More bull. Expect that just prior to the referendum in October.
00:04:18.500Get in touch with me when an oil tanker is off the coast of British Columbia heading west. That's
00:04:24.540when I'll be interested. Thanks for watching. If you like this video, give it a thumbs up,
00:04:29.580subscribe to the channel, ring the bell for notifications. I'll see you in the next one.
