Summary

It's been an interesting year in politics here in Canada, and we're coming up on the anniversary of the arrival of our current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. We're fast approaching the end of the year, and it's hard to believe that we've been through one of the most interesting years in Canadian politics in recent memory.

00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John, and welcome to the channel, 354 a.m. Thursday, November the 20th. I hope
00:00:08.380 you're having a great Thursday. I hope you've had a wonderful week so far. We've got a little
00:00:13.400 bit of snow here in Calgary. Not a lot. It's actually been very good. We've had good weather
00:00:16.900 here in the west. A lot of my family members who live out east have been suffering. When
00:00:22.760 it's bad out east, we get the good weather, and it flips here in Canada. It just works
00:00:27.320 out that way. It's been pretty good here in Calgary. Temperature's still above zero.
00:00:30.700 I've got my big blue mug of coffee. Thanks so much for being here.
00:00:35.160 I got up this morning thinking about a few things, and one of them was that I have political
00:00:41.720 fatigue. Do you feel that way as well? I got up this morning thinking I'm kind of running
00:00:46.640 dry right now. It's been an interesting year in politics here in Canada. As a matter of
00:00:53.180 fact, I could say that in my 61 years on this planet, I voted for the very first time when
00:00:58.300 I was 18 years old, or thereabouts. This is probably one of the most interesting years
00:01:03.580 ever in Canadian politics that I can remember. There have been other ones. I actually remember
00:01:08.560 late 70s, early 80s when Joe Clark was the prime minister. I do remember that. I remember
00:01:16.580 a quote from John Crosby, who was a real character when it came to politics here in Canada. Crosby,
00:01:22.780 he's the guy who said to Sheila Copps, liberal, pass the tequila, Sheila. I mean, we don't
00:01:28.980 have people quite like that in politics anymore. Crosby died a few years ago. But Joe Clark was
00:01:35.440 in power for a little over nine months. Actually, if I remember correctly, Crosby had a great
00:01:41.700 quote as well. He said, long enough for the conception, but not long enough for the delivery
00:01:46.920 when it came to the government, because it fell just after nine months. Something like that.
00:01:51.900 I may have misquoted him, but I do remember that as well. But back then, it was interesting
00:01:56.340 times. Trudeau, at the time, was going to resign as the head of the Liberal Party. Joe
00:02:02.500 Clark won. I remember it really came down to the Social Credit Party. I was only 15 at the
00:02:08.280 time, but I followed politics back then. Social Credit Party was in the federal government
00:02:12.000 at the time. Clark proposed a four cent a liter tax on gasoline. Four cents! Think about
00:02:18.040 how much tax you pay on gasoline now. Four cents, which basically brought down his government.
00:02:22.520 The budget came up. There was a vote of non-confidence in the government. They went to an election.
00:02:28.480 Trudeau, who said he was going to resign, came back and won a majority. And I think he jacked
00:02:33.060 up gas prices in Canada. 20 cents a liter, not long after that. It's back, I think, when
00:02:38.120 we had Petro Canada and it was a federally run gas station. And I believe Alberta was pretty
00:02:43.500 pissed off about it, if I remember correctly. Again, I'm going off the top of my head, and
00:02:46.960 this is a long time ago. But it's been an interesting year in politics. And something I was thinking
00:02:53.720 this morning was, you know, we're coming up on almost a year, and in about less than two
00:03:01.380 months, it'll be the anniversary of the appearance of Mark Carney. Of course, Justin Trudeau walked
00:03:08.060 out on January the 6th this year, and said that he was going to leave. And I believe it was exactly
00:03:13.660 10 days later on January 16, where Mark Carney appeared after spending about 10 years or more
00:03:19.820 over in Europe, probably couldn't point out Canada on a map at that point, and said he was running for
00:03:24.680 the federal leadership of the Liberal Party. And now he's the Prime Minister of the country, and our fate
00:03:30.440 is in this man's hands. It's really quite hard to believe. But he got the Liberal leadership and was
00:03:40.400 immediately named the Prime Minister of the country, and then he won an election on the 28th of April.
00:03:46.580 So April, May, June, July, August, September, October, we're approaching the end of November. So, you know,
00:03:53.480 we're going on seven, eight months of the Liberals being in power. And I was thinking this morning,
00:03:58.840 what has been accomplished? We hear about China building a coal-fired power station every week,
00:04:07.160 and countries building things in a matter of no time if they really need them. I think Germany
00:04:11.720 built a gas plant or something in less than a year. What has been accomplished by the Liberals
00:04:16.800 since they were elected on April 28th? Or even going back earlier when Mark Carney was named the
00:04:21.560 Prime Minister, but he hadn't been elected Prime Minister at that point. And I can't think of a single
00:04:26.320 damn thing. Have we got any shovels in the ground on any major projects? And my question to you is
00:04:33.780 this. How long can you wait for all of this investment that the Liberals are promising?
00:04:39.640 I was out at Costco the other day. I go to Costco to pick up my cream, and you probably,
00:04:43.780 if you've been watching for a while, you've seen me here. I bring out a liter of cream every once in a
00:04:49.220 while. And my wife does most of the shopping, but I go to Costco every week and a half or so,
00:04:55.140 and I pick up six, seven liters of cream. It doesn't get past the best before date,
00:05:00.140 unlike those grocery stores that are now unnecessary in Canada because of the Liberals
00:05:04.000 that now sell best stuff that's past its best before date. But I go to Costco, and that's how I
00:05:10.200 judge grocery prices. And I used to go to Costco, and it would be $2.85 a liter, which was much better
00:05:16.460 than going to Walmart, which was about $4 a liter. But even Costco cream is up to $3.15 a liter I paid
00:05:24.240 the other day. And I haven't seen grocery prices coming down. And Carney says he's going to build
00:05:28.520 houses. Well, have any shovels been in the ground in the last seven to eight months? We've got this
00:05:32.640 massive new corporation that the government has that's supposed to build things for us. Has
00:05:36.880 anything happened? How long can we wait for these major projects? And Carney says he's going to
00:05:41.820 try to do more investing and get more investment in Canada from other countries other than the
00:05:46.260 United States? How long is this going to take? How long can you stand all of this liberalism we've
00:05:52.960 got in the country? We've been putting up with it for 10 years, and we continue to slide down
00:05:56.840 downhill. Food prices continue to go up. Things aren't getting better. Nothing's getting built.
00:06:02.340 I mean, you'd think if there were Carnivilles going up across the country, there would be pictures of
00:06:07.680 Carney out there putting a shovel in the ground. But I don't think a single house has been built.
00:06:11.220 I don't think a single major project has started. And most of the major projects that Mark Carney has
00:06:18.680 announced were things that were announced years ago, and they don't even have shovels in the ground
00:06:22.260 for those things. I've got political fatigue, folks. I can't handle all this winning here in Canada.
00:06:30.340 And I say that sarcastically. What I get is this. What I get is this. And this is why I have
00:06:37.420 political fatigue. I don't sit here all day watching the news. I don't. I can't stand it. It drives me
00:06:46.260 crazy. I go in a couple of times a day just to see what's going on. But I can't stand it. And I see
00:06:54.100 Moose on the Loose and Jasmine Lane and others who sit there all day long and they put out video
00:07:00.200 after video. God love them. They're doing great work. I'm just stunned at these young people,
00:07:04.380 what they do. I couldn't do that all day long because I've just had enough. I guess I'm just
00:07:10.300 too old. I'm not too old to do it. I'm just too old to put up with it. Do you feel like that?
00:07:16.180 Again, it's the political fatigue that kind of creeps in with me. I just can't stand it anymore.
00:07:23.120 I guess the young people, they haven't been exposed to it as much as myself or maybe you
00:07:29.320 have as well. What I get is this. People like watching Question Period. And every time I watch
00:07:35.460 it, I cringe. I see stuff like this. Here's Melissa Lansman asking a question of the government. You'd
00:07:40.200 think we could get some answers from the government. But this is political theater. It serves no purpose.
00:07:47.720 The liberals have won. They won the election. They got their budget. And they're arrogant as usual.
00:07:53.120 Melissa Lansman in Question Period in the House of Commons.
00:07:56.120 Every time the Prime Minister flies out of this country for another glittering photo op,
00:08:01.660 things get worse for Canadians. He went to China and came back with more tariffs on Canadian canola.
00:08:06.660 He went to the US, came back with double the tariffs on cars and triple the tariffs on steel and
00:08:10.980 aluminum. And now the two sides aren't even talking. And then he went to the UK and he still
00:08:15.120 couldn't land a basic deal for our pork and beef farmers. Why is it that every time the Prime
00:08:21.020 Minister boards a plane, Canadians get sacked with a bigger bill?
00:08:24.020 The Honourable Government House Leader.
00:08:27.020 Mr. Speaker, the Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party should ask the question in reverse. Why
00:08:33.820 is it when the Leader of the Opposition flies out of this city to far-flung places across
00:08:40.020 our vast and grand land? His polling results go down every single time that he lands at a great
00:08:47.680 Canadian airport, Mr. Speaker. The Deputy Leader should demand more of her leader, should demand
00:08:54.040 bigger results of her leader. The Deputy Leader needs to step up, Mr. Speaker.
00:08:59.680 What's accomplished by this? This is your government. They don't answer any questions.
00:09:04.820 Lanceman's correct. She's given a chance to follow up. And then they send out another
00:09:10.760 Liberal attack talk to tell you how good your life is under the Liberal Party.
00:09:14.820 Finance.
00:09:15.580 Forget Canada has a AAA credit rating. Inflation has been within the Bank of Canada target range
00:09:21.080 for over almost two years. Interest rates are down. Job numbers are exceeding expectations.
00:09:26.460 And Budget 2025 makes generational investments that the head of the International Monetary Fund welcomes.
00:09:32.740 These investments will pay dividends to Canadians over generations in the form of good-paying jobs,
00:09:38.660 affordable homes, thriving and productive industries, resilient supply chains, infrastructure
00:09:43.780 that connects our country and enables diverse trade. The only question is, why do the Conservatives
00:09:49.500 not believe in Canada?
00:09:51.580 Don't you wish we could get a straight answer from these people? It's all political theatre from
00:09:55.740 both sides of the aisle. This accomplishes absolutely nothing. It's rather embarrassing when you get
00:10:00.880 right down to it. And you're probably here and you're a Conservative. You likely didn't vote for
00:10:05.140 the Liberals. But these people who stand up and give these ridiculous non-answers every day are the
00:10:09.820 people who represent you in government, whether you like it or not. And instead of actually answering
00:10:15.000 questions, they spout off statistics.
00:10:18.400 Ben Scully, the legendary sports broadcaster, said,
00:10:21.320 statistics are used much like a drunk uses a lamp post for support, not illumination.
00:10:28.360 So I'm looking forward to Christmas. I really am. I can hardly wait a little more than a month away.
00:10:34.640 Merry Christmas. I'll be the first person to say it to you.
00:10:39.040 I'm looking forward to Christmas so I can alleviate some of this political fatigue that I've been dealing
00:10:44.240 with. It's been going on for close to a year.
00:10:49.040 They'll be going on vacation about a month from now.
00:10:51.520 I believe it was December 19th last year when they finally went
00:10:54.360 for Christmas vacation. And I can hardly wait.
00:10:56.400 Now, just an update for you. I will be having somebody on to talk about
00:11:00.460 the Alberta Prosperity Project being in court.
00:11:04.020 They were in court yesterday. I watched a fair bit of it yesterday.
00:11:07.020 They're in court today and they're in court tomorrow.
00:11:10.280 I think Jeff Rath and Eva Chipiuk will be talking today.
00:11:12.960 They hardly said a thing yesterday. Six and a half hours.
00:11:15.920 It was a little dry for me not being a lawyer, but I did watch some of it.
00:11:19.160 We've got Aboriginal groups saying their rights will be taken away
00:11:21.900 if Alberta votes for independence.
00:11:24.540 So we'll be talking to somebody tomorrow.
00:11:26.920 I hope to have a video up late tomorrow afternoon
00:11:30.600 regarding the court case that's happening right now in Edmonton.
00:11:35.640 Thanks a lot for watching. I do appreciate it.
00:11:38.220 I want to alleviate some of your political fatigue.
00:11:40.680 step away from your screens today and pay no attention.
00:11:44.960 I think that's what I'm going to do unless something really interesting breaks.
00:11:48.900 And how often does that really happen?
00:11:50.580 Thanks a lot for watching. I appreciate it.
00:11:52.440 If you like the video, give it a thumbs up.
00:11:54.180 Subscribe to the channel. Ring the bell for notifications.
00:11:56.140 I'll see you in the next one.
