I watched Mark Carney's pre-budget speech to the nation in Calgary, Alberta and I have to say, I was disappointed. I think he was trying to pull the wool over everyone s eyes. I don't know what else to say.

00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John, and welcome to the channel. It is 10 minutes after 7, Wednesday, October
00:00:08.160 the 22nd. I hope you're having a great evening. It is 10 after 7 p.m. I've got my big blue
00:00:13.720 mug of coffee on for me because I don't normally comment on breaking news stories, but I wanted
00:00:19.780 to do something on this one tonight. I watched Mark Carney's pre-budget speech tonight, his
00:00:26.420 address to the nation. I went into the speech with an open mind. I did. I said, Mark, convince
00:00:32.460 me you're going to do good for me and my family here in Calgary, Alberta. And I have to say
00:00:38.100 I was disappointed. I came out of this with really two things, thinking about two things.
00:00:43.700 One, I thought that if you'd taken every speech that Mark Carney has done since mid-January
00:00:50.440 when he started running for the liberal leadership, ran it through AI, this is the speech you
00:00:55.320 would get because there was really nothing new here. It was basically his stump speech
00:00:59.940 all the way through his leadership campaign and through the election and everything since.
00:01:05.560 The other thing I thought was, why is he doing this? What's the purpose of this? This is
00:01:11.000 unprecedented. This doesn't happen. There was no need to do this speech tonight. So why did
00:01:16.160 he do it? And I'm convinced he's trying to pull the wool over everybody's eyes. He mentions
00:01:22.480 late in this speech that he wanted to work collaboratively with the other parties. He met
00:01:29.400 with Pierre Polyev and the other leaders today. And I think what he's trying to do here is set
00:01:34.400 himself up to look like the good guy if the government falls after the budget. I'm the guy
00:01:40.420 that's trying to be diplomatic. I'm the guy that's trying to reach across the aisle. I'm the guy that's
00:01:45.840 trying to work with the other parties and all Canadians to make things better for you.
00:01:49.400 It's their fault the government fell. It's their fault we can't enact all of these great policies
00:01:55.620 we've got to make your life better. It's their fault you've got an election before Christmas.
00:02:02.020 That's why I think he did this speech. He's trying to pull the wool over our eyes, but our eyes are
00:02:07.700 open. So let me go through this. I put everything on my tablet here. I'm not going to play any clips.
00:02:12.100 It would bore you to death. You'd hate hearing him talk. And I can do this much faster. And again,
00:02:18.660 I did this so you didn't have to watch it. So he talks about how things will never be the same
00:02:23.100 referring to the United States. He says that Canada has what the world wants and needs, and he goes
00:02:28.820 through natural resources, things like that. He talked about clean energy, right? Pretty close to
00:02:33.060 the beginning of this speech. And then if you had used this speech as a drinking game, you would get
00:02:40.640 drunk by hearing the words sustainable and sustainability. He said that a lot. I'll get
00:02:45.600 to that in just a moment. He says we need to think big and build big. He talked about generational
00:02:52.660 investments. And I mentioned that. He's mentioned that over the last week or so. His investments,
00:02:57.500 remember, are a lot of spending. It's not investing. It is spending. It's deficit spending. And there's
00:03:03.740 going to be a lot of it. He said that he mentioned border security. He alluded to speech laws. I'm
00:03:10.340 thinking he talked about, you know, anti-Semitism and reducing Islamophobia. So I think he's talking
00:03:16.780 about speech laws, mentioned bail reform, talked about defense spending. He said we need to build
00:03:22.020 things and fast track nation building projects. That's why we have an office here in Calgary.
00:03:27.080 And he says that the government's going to create hundreds of thousands of good jobs. And as I've
00:03:32.180 mentioned over the last couple of days, it's really not the government's job to create jobs. It's their
00:03:36.340 job to really get out of the way and make it easier for companies and entrepreneurs to create jobs.
00:03:43.380 He mentioned the first set of projects that the government is investing $60 billion in,
00:03:49.340 spending your money on, and the next projects will be out before the Great Cup. He talked about
00:03:54.620 building homes, affordable homes, doubling the pace of housing and building with indigenous people.
00:03:59.840 Of course, he had to get that in. And then he talked and said that on November 4th,
00:04:04.880 he will release their climate competitiveness strategy to build sustainably. And this is going
00:04:12.280 to be the real kicker of this November 4th budget, folks. He's going to go all in on green and net zero.
00:04:17.800 I really think that's coming. And he said sustainably a lot. That's a lot. He said,
00:04:25.600 quote, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, not only a moral duty, it is also an economic imperative,
00:04:33.420 unquote. So take that for what it is. He talked about building steel here in Canada,
00:04:40.580 making steel here in Canada, making more in Canada and a buy Canadian policy because we're our own best
00:04:45.520 customer. That plays well with the elbows up folks, but it doesn't play well with folks like us because
00:04:51.080 we know we have to trade with our biggest trading partner, the United States, or the economy is going
00:04:56.160 to go down. So expect it to go down. He says that he signed deals with Indonesia, Germany, India,
00:05:02.200 China. He wants to double non-US exports over the next decade. He wants to support the more vulnerable
00:05:10.100 people in our society, build a country where life is affordable. And he used cutting taxes as a way
00:05:16.020 of proving that, but I'm not finding life much more affordable these days. He wants to unlock
00:05:20.660 apprenticeships and training. And he says, we have difficult decisions, change the way government
00:05:26.660 works and the state works, spend less, invest more. He wants to balance the operating deficit in three
00:05:33.040 years, which is an accounting trick. I thought he was going to do that this year, but now it's in three
00:05:37.520 years. The other part of the budget is the thing he calls investing, which is deficits.
00:05:46.040 He says the government's looking for efficiencies. He says the budget will protect essential programs,
00:05:52.160 dental program, the food program for children in schools will become permanent. Did you realize,
00:05:57.900 and he said this in his speech, the Canadian government funds 400,000 meals a day
00:06:04.420 for school children? Unbelievable. He's going to protect the child care program and he'll have
00:06:13.740 automatic federal benefits coming out. He says the cost of living is too high, as if he knows what
00:06:18.160 that's all about. Then he's going to build more homes. He's going to get immigration is getting under
00:06:23.340 control. And he says the budget will do better for newcomers. I don't know what that means, but I hope
00:06:28.020 it doesn't mean that he's going to give them more money. He says our economy is holding up. And then
00:06:32.840 he said, quote, we won't transform our economy easily or in a few months. It will take some sacrifices.
00:06:39.420 It will take some time, unquote. Transforming the economy is the green economy. I'm convinced of it.
00:06:47.360 And then he said, we will work collaboratively with colleagues across the aisle. And again, I think
00:06:54.820 he set up Polyev and the rest of the leaders today by talking to them. And again, they're going to be
00:07:01.520 the bad guys when the government falls because of a non-confidence vote. And we have an election
00:07:06.780 when everybody's out during their Christmas shopping. So that's how I feel about what happened
00:07:11.520 tonight. Tell me what you think. Did you watch it? Do you even care what this man has to say anymore?
00:07:16.040 Do you trust the liberals? It's a rhetorical question. Let me know what you think in the
00:07:22.820 comments. If you liked the video, please give me a thumbs up. Subscribe to the channel. Ring the bell
00:07:26.940 for notifications. We'll see you in the next one.
