So, this video today is inspired by this new deal that Mark Carney has signed with the European Union.
00:00:34.940
The CBC says it's a deepening European defense and security partnership.
00:00:39.800
Carney in his speech yesterday described it as being about defense, digital.
00:00:43.860
So, I'm wondering if a digital ID is coming real soon. Think about that.
00:00:51.300
And certainly people have been commenting on this, on how this is a good thing.
00:00:55.380
Listen, don't get me wrong. I'm not going to put my blinders on here.
00:00:59.000
Making deals with other countries and unions is a good idea.
00:01:04.700
And I'm going to run through that in this video.
00:01:10.440
But Mark Carney certainly is doing this because of the United States, for sure.
00:01:16.660
Because we have an issue when it comes to tariffs with the United States.
00:01:21.460
But I also think Mark Carney is doing this because he identifies with Europe more than he does with Canada and with the United States.
00:01:29.380
Now, I see myself as an Albertan, not a Canadian.
00:01:32.360
I believe I have more in common with the states to the south of me than I do with the provinces to the east of me.
00:01:38.020
I would hand over the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms for the Constitution of the United States in a moment.
00:01:44.140
Property rights, gun rights, freedom of the press, which we're getting less and less of here in Canada.
00:01:54.060
And Section 1 of the Charter here in Canada just completely nullify those things.
00:01:58.360
Because you don't have any rights, really, when it comes to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms here in Canada.
00:02:02.720
But Mark Carney sees himself more as a European than he does as a Canadian.
00:02:07.460
And he has more roots with Europe than he does with the United States, our biggest trading partner.
00:02:13.040
He said it before, and he said it again yesterday.
00:02:17.020
And as the most European of the non-European countries, Canada looks first to the European Union to build a better world.
00:02:30.600
I have more of a kinship with people to the south of us in the United States than I do with Europe.
00:02:36.320
I hate when politicians speak on behalf of Canadians like that.
00:02:42.300
I don't feel any kinship whatsoever with the European Union.
00:02:46.580
But this deal could end up being a disaster for Canada.
00:02:50.740
This is poking the finger in the eye of Donald Trump, which Carney's supporters just love.
00:02:56.880
But a good deal with the EU could turn into a disastrous deal with the United States of America.
00:03:02.940
But the chess pieces are starting to fall in place, just as I envisioned it back during the election campaign.
00:03:09.560
He's hitching his wagon with the EU for a reason.
00:03:13.060
It all comes back to one thing, which I'm going to get to in just a moment.
00:03:19.840
In the face of rising global threats, Canada is building ever-stronger alliances.
00:03:31.960
The global threat they're talking about here is Donald Trump.
00:03:37.040
And the deal that he was supposed to negotiate with Donald Trump is getting further and further and further away day by day.
00:03:45.480
National Post, after agreeing 30-day timeline, Mark Carney now says nothing's assured on deal with the U.S.
00:04:02.520
How is any of this dealing with the EU benefiting you?
00:04:06.240
What's the most important thing to you right now?
00:04:13.560
The cost of living, which gets harder and harder for you to deal with on a daily basis in this country?
00:04:22.400
And it could have disastrous effects if we don't get a deal with Donald Trump in the United States.
00:04:29.180
The number one thing that got him elected, Mark Carney.
00:04:37.700
Prime Minister of Canada tweet, there he is in the middle.
00:04:44.740
But that's Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the EU.
00:04:52.160
What does Mark Carney want to do with Canadian oil?
00:05:03.960
Now, within the broader context of national interest, the interest is in, as mentioned in the press release, decarbonized barrels.
00:05:12.920
So, working alongside forms of decarbonization for those barrels.
00:05:23.900
What does this mean for the oil and gas industry here in Canada?
00:05:36.280
This is where he made billions of dollars for himself and companies.
00:05:45.100
Carney mentioned it in his speech yesterday when he was talking about this deal with the EU.
00:05:50.280
We're launching comprehensive negotiations across multiple areas of cooperation, connection, trade, security, digital, climate.
00:05:59.420
But now we're working alongside the European Union to combat climate change, to achieve the sustainable development goals.
00:06:14.900
He's made billions of dollars for himself and his businesses.
00:06:20.700
And does the United States care about decarbonized oil?
00:06:25.860
And we sell most of our oil to the United States of America.
00:06:31.080
If you want to make a deal with Canada and the European Union and some other countries around the world, this is what you have to do.
00:06:38.720
So, on the one hand, we have our largest trading partner, as we've been discussing, attacking us, putting tariffs on us.
00:06:46.900
On the other hand, we have the opportunity to diversify trade.
00:06:51.380
Guess what one of the requirements is to diversify trade to the European Union?
00:06:55.560
Guess what one of the requirements is to diversify trade to the United Kingdom?
00:06:59.100
Guess what one of the requirements will be to diversify trade to emerging Asia?
00:07:07.320
So, in Mark Carney's world, the only way you can make a deal with Canada and the EU is to have a price on carbon.
00:07:17.100
Mark Carney's carbon tariff would hurt Canadians and help no one.
00:07:24.220
And it could cost us a trade deal with our biggest trading partner.
00:07:34.960
He even talked about it when he talked about this deal with the EU.
00:07:39.300
So, we're meeting now, in that context, in, as you just said, in hard times.
00:07:50.660
A time where the rules-based international, the global order, rules-based global order, is under threat.
00:07:58.000
And a time when technological change is accelerating.
00:08:05.100
It's a jurisdiction as a country in this circumstance.
00:08:08.100
We can nostalgically look back and long for the old order to somehow return.
00:08:13.580
Or we can build a new one with purpose and partnership.
00:08:20.480
I didn't realize we were playing by any specific rules.
00:08:26.800
And I guess lining up against the biggest economy in the world.
00:08:30.240
Our biggest trading partner, the United States of America.
00:08:32.700
How long before American industry starts heading south?
00:08:36.440
Ones that are probably in Ontario that make these things called cars.
00:08:44.020
And, of course, we're not going to have any gas-powered cars in Canada in the next nine years now, I guess it is.
00:09:02.420
And you voted for a better way of living in Canada.
00:09:04.880
You voted for being able to buy a house that's affordable.
00:09:16.820
The EU is further down the road when it comes to their immigration problems than Canada is.
00:09:21.020
But we still have record numbers of people coming in here.
00:09:26.220
What does this mean for our oil and gas industry?
00:09:35.240
They had that meeting between Alberta and Saskatchewan.
00:09:41.300
Scott Moe says, we've got hundreds of things we want done.
00:09:46.300
It'll be enough to buy a few votes here in Alberta and appease people who want to see a pipeline.
00:09:52.600
But we have big things we want to do in here in Alberta and we're not going to get it.
00:09:59.320
Rick Bell, Calgary's son, Daniel Smith, goes on offense against a two-faced Mark Carney.
00:10:04.980
For Alberta Premier Daniel Smith, the clock is ticking and it's time to cut through Mark Carney's weasel words.
00:10:09.600
How long before he makes a commitment to big things here in Alberta?
00:10:15.280
His weasel word, number one, is consensus, which we'll never have.
00:10:20.780
And every time he talks about growing our economy or building big things over here,
00:10:25.440
he has to throw the words aboriginals in on everything because that's a veto.
00:10:32.600
Provinces are a veto on anything that gets built in this province.
00:10:36.360
If you're an Albertan, don't buy anything this guy says.
00:10:40.300
And don't accept the scraps he's going to throw us to try to appease us
00:10:44.180
because he says he's going to build the biggest economy in the G7.
00:10:57.280
We knew it as soon as he got into the race to be the leader of the Liberal Party.
00:11:04.540
And Mark Carney's weasel words, as Rick Bell wrote in that article in the Calgary Sun.
