Premier Danielle Smith draws a line in the sand between Alberta and the federal government over non-renewable energy development in the oil and gas sector. She all but threatened the government to stay out of Alberta s business.
00:01:35.200This amendment to the Critical Infrastructure Defense Act provides an extra tool to safeguard essential infrastructure from interference.
00:01:42.040And that includes interference from Ottawa.
00:01:44.120I would certainly hope that the new prime minister has taken the time to read our constitution.
00:01:48.840And I would direct him to pay specific attention to Section 92A, which gives the province, not the federal government, the exclusive jurisdiction over non-renewable natural resource development.
00:01:59.940Alberta will continue in its pursuit of doubling our oil and gas production to meet the growing global demand for energy.
00:02:05.620And we will not let Ottawa stand in our way.
00:02:08.100We will not tolerate the continuous, unconstitutional overreaches made by the federal liberal government.
00:02:13.960Measures like the emissions cap, the net zero electricity regs, the net zero electric vehicle mandate, and the energy industry advertising ban must be stopped now.
00:02:23.620And make no mistake, Alberta will do whatever it takes to shield our economy from the liberals' growth-killing lunacy.
00:02:29.400These amendments we're introducing today would include denying federal workers access to our facilities and the information they contain.
00:02:37.440I will continue to fiercely and unapologetically stand up for Albertans and defend the best interest of our province, our economy, and our industry.
00:02:45.980This ongoing tariff dispute has proven now, more than ever, that Canada must build big and build fast to reach new global markets for export.
00:02:55.100Canadians and politicians from across the country are calling for new pipelines to be built, east, west, and north, to secure our future and end our reliance upon our southern trading partner.
00:03:06.360However, if the new prime minister wants to resume an old fight, well, we will.
00:03:12.620Because if we can't make these decisions and build, when it's so obviously in the national interest, then what kind of an economic future does Canada have?
00:03:21.540Today's amendments are a warning, but they're also an invitation to Ottawa.
00:04:06.360Now, listen to Daniel Smith's answer here.
00:04:08.780Again, she sees Ottawa as a threat, but it's the question you need to listen to here.
00:04:15.720And the total lack of understanding by this young person who works in media, it could be an older person, but a left-wing media type asking this question that does not understand what you and I understand, that the threat here is not Donald Trump so much, but it's the Liberal Party and Mark Carney.
00:04:44.940Well, because the biggest threat to the Alberta economy has been the past 10 years of Liberal government that cancelled $176 billion worth of investment.
00:04:52.040We continue to face threats, whether it's the tanker ban off the West Coast, Bill C-69, which has still not been passed, net zero power rigs, net zero cars, net zero buildings, methane caps, emissions caps.
00:05:06.280If they continue doing that, it'll crush our economy.
00:05:08.500So I would say that we'd face a dual threat.
00:05:11.160Yes, we have to deal with the tariffs, but we also equally have to deal with a federal Liberal government that has tried to crush our economy for the past 10 years.
00:05:19.040And we're just not going to let them do that anymore.
00:05:20.440This news conference is absolute gold when it comes to talking about Alberta, Canada, and our federal politics right now.
00:05:28.980Now, up next, Rick Bell, who works for Post Media, writes in the Calgary Sun, so he's very familiar with what's been going on here in Alberta.
00:05:36.140He asks about the fact that Albertans are going to be very upset if the Liberals get elected for a fourth time.
00:05:43.020Then he follows it up with the question, what are you going to do if they are elected?
00:05:46.300And Danielle Smith lists a number of things that she wants to see gone when it comes to our oil and gas industry.
00:05:54.080And these are things that Mark Carney will never do because net zero is his religion.
00:06:28.600I want to see us be the strong and united country that I know we can be, getting our products to market and working together collaboratively to do so.
00:06:36.580How would you deal with the almost certain frustration, disappointment, frustration, and even anger that there would be yet another Liberal government in Ottawa that might be unfriendly to Alberta?
00:06:56.780Well, I would say that I've got a term sheet, and my term sheet has a few key things on it.
00:07:04.740Number one, respect section 92A of the Constitution, which we are reinforcing here today with this legislation.
00:07:12.040Allow us the autonomy to develop our resources and get them to market.
00:07:16.420Number two, repeal the section, the offending sections of Bill C-69, which prevents us from being able to build pipelines,
00:07:24.100end the tanker ban off the West Coast, which prevents us from exporting our product internationally,
00:07:30.120end the net zero power regs, end the net zero vehicle standards,
00:07:34.880end any talk of an emissions cap, end any talk of a methane emissions cap,
00:07:40.180end the war on plastics, which we also, incidentally, was another area that we won at the federal court,
