Summary
It's not that government taxes are too little, it's that government spends too much. Ronald Reagan and Mark Carney agree on that point. And a recent article from the Fraser Institute proves it, and Alberta s premier Danielle Smith needs to start calling out the BS.

Hi, it's John, and welcome to the channel, 554 AM, Sunday, November the 2nd. I hope you're
00:00:08.780
having a great weekend. My second video today, I tip my big blue mug of coffee to you today.
00:00:14.560
By the way, if you haven't subscribed to the channel yet, I'd appreciate if you would do
00:00:18.500
that. Just click on subscribe. Thank you so much. So today I want to start with a couple
00:00:23.200
of quotes from Ronald Reagan, the great communicator. Reagan said, it's not that government taxes
00:00:29.180
too little, it's that government spends too much. He also said this, the nine scariest
00:00:35.780
words in the English language are, I'm from the government and I'm here to help. And
00:00:42.400
ain't that the truth? And this story I'm going to talk about here, I'm going to read a little
00:00:45.880
bit of an article for you in just a moment, proves it. And there's plenty of criticism
00:00:50.120
to go around in this video, not just the federal government, but provincial governments as well,
00:00:55.820
including Alberta. And my Premier Danielle Smith is kowtowing to what Mark Carney wants just to try
00:01:01.720
to get a pipeline here. And she needs to start calling out the BS. And we're going to get a lot
00:01:06.700
of BS when it comes to the budget that's coming up. Now, what has Mark Carney been saying? I think
00:01:11.380
he said this for the very first time way back in February, and he's pulling the wool over your eyes
00:01:16.780
when he says this. Carney's been pushing this line since shortly after he started running for the
00:01:25.480
liberal leadership way back in January. No doubt, Francois-Philippe Champagne, his finance minister,
00:01:31.160
will stroll across the floor on budget night in his brand new pair of shoes. We have balanced the
00:01:37.200
operational budget. The liberal seals will clap in the background, but they'll hardly say the word
00:01:44.260
deficit because in the mind, in the world of Mark Carney, deficits don't exist anymore. Neither
00:01:50.960
do they in the mind of Champagne or liberals. Deficits are investment. And the investment is your money,
00:01:59.000
which drives up the cost of living and inflation. And it doesn't really do any good. Because generally,
00:02:04.400
when governments pick winners and losers, Canadian taxpayers are losers, case in point.
00:02:10.660
I want to read a bit of this to you. Canadian governments, and you'll notice it says governments
00:02:15.000
here because there's a lot of provincial governments that are guilty of this. They spent $158 billion
00:02:21.280
on green economy, but created only 68,000 jobs. Let me read a bit of this, and I think it's important
00:02:26.940
to read. Green economy jobs created in the last 10 years cost Canadian governments an estimated $2.3
00:02:33.720
million per position, totaling $158 billion in 2024. Research from two new Fraser Institute reports
00:02:42.560
found the federal government and the governments of Canada's four biggest provinces, Ontario, Alberta,
00:02:48.000
Quebec, and BC, only created an estimated 68,000 jobs despite the significant amount of taxpayer money
00:02:55.300
expended on climate change mitigation programs, investments, and tax incentives.
00:03:01.000
The study analysis found federal support rose from just $600 million in 2014-15 to $23 billion in
00:03:09.180
24-25, growing 38 times larger. The researchers examined Canadian government's green initiatives such
00:03:16.020
as clean technologies, electric vehicle incentives, and charging infrastructure funding for building
00:03:21.200
retrofits and support for energy efficiency programs. In one example, a failed green energy policy after
00:03:27.360
many federal and provincial subsidies ended in early 2025, EV sales in Canada plummeted by nearly half
00:03:34.160
as charging infrastructure gaps and unreliability hadn't been addressed, as well as major consumer
00:03:40.380
demand failing to materialize. This was coupled with the second Trump administration's dismantling of his
00:03:45.800
country's key low-carbon and green energy initiatives, influencing the environmental policy direction of
00:03:52.100
countries around the world. Provincial green spending also increased substantially from $2.2 billion in
00:03:57.680
2015-2014-2015 to $10.6 billion in 24-25, nearly increasing by a multiple of five.
00:04:06.060
The funding represents yet another instance where governments picking winners and losers in the market
00:04:10.660
does not create the jobs and widespread economic benefits policymakers say it does.
00:04:16.240
Now listen to this. It's going to sound familiar in just a second. Throughout his term in office, Prime Minister
00:04:21.820
Justin Trudeau claimed shifting to a low-carbon economy would bring Canada a prosperous future for all.
00:04:27.340
You're going to hear that a lot during the budget.
00:04:31.720
Quote, Canada understands that if you don't have a plan to tackle climate change, then you don't have a plan to
00:04:38.060
create jobs and economic growth. Unquote, Trudeau said back in 2021.
00:04:42.600
Yet not only did green spending not grow the Canadian economy in a major way, but it also
00:04:48.700
didn't enable us to meet Canada's greenhouse gas emissions, GHG targets. According to the federal
00:04:54.600
government, Canada's emissions only dropped 0.9% between 2022 to 2023, for instance.
00:05:01.740
And now we get to the Mark Carney part of the story. For now, it appears Prime Minister Mark Carney,
00:05:06.560
a former UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance, is distancing himself from parts of
00:05:12.480
Trudeau's green legacy, removing the carbon tax and promising to fast-track energy projects.
00:05:18.040
Quote, what we need to do is to be as effective as possible in terms of addressing climate change
00:05:23.480
while growing our economy. Unquote, Carney told Bloomberg News. Does that sound familiar to what
00:05:28.920
Justin Trudeau said? While he was blowing $158 billion of your money to accomplish absolutely nothing?
00:05:36.220
What makes those emissions go down will be carbon capture and storage. Now, this is where we get to
00:05:43.760
Danielle Smith and the province of Alberta, because Danielle Smith is counting on a pipeline if she
00:05:49.320
buys into this carbon capture nonsense, as Jeff Rath said on this channel right here, putting a pipe
00:05:54.420
into the ground and putting carbon dioxide into it. Do you know what happens when a pipeline bursts?
00:05:59.880
You have a mess. You've got to clean it up. Do you know what happens when a carbon pipeline bursts?
00:06:06.460
This is what can happen. When a carbon pipeline bursts. Listen to this. Did you hear this story?
00:06:12.020
October 28th. Just a few days ago. Listen to this. On a highway near a small village in Mississippi,
00:06:17.700
car engines stalled, people passed out, and dozens were hospitalized, all while first responders
00:06:23.180
struggled to figure out why. There had been reports of an explosion and a loud roar. Emergency crews
00:06:28.860
suspected a gas line had erupted, causing a mass poisoning. 30 minutes in, they knew that the gas
00:06:36.340
was carbon dioxide, according to a post-incident report authored by multiple U.S. agencies.
00:06:42.340
A pipeline carrying liquid CO2 ruptured, forming a crater around 40 feet deep at its lowest point.
00:06:48.520
More than 31,000 barrels spewed into the air over several hours near the small town of Sartasia,
00:06:53.840
Mississippi in February of 2020. As the gas spread throughout the small town, residents fell ill and
00:07:01.040
emergency vehicles stalled. In all, 45 people had to recover in local hospitals, while another 200
00:07:07.160
evacuated. No one died. While the emergency ended over five years ago, it remains a case study in the
00:07:14.520
potential dangers of capturing carbon and storing it underground, including with the existing and
00:07:20.420
proposed CO2 networks in Alberta, researchers say. So, Danielle Smith, be careful what you do.
00:07:29.220
Back to the other story. The impending federal budget includes a climate competitiveness strategy
00:07:34.180
that Carney claims will introduce an investment-led plan to cut emissions while boosting growth.
00:07:39.860
Investment. Deficit. We need to make sure Canadians are getting value for their money.
00:07:45.880
And so far, the results don't show that. Now, Ali Akbari here is the person at the Fraser Institute.
00:07:53.960
Quote, I think it's important for governments to reflect on these findings and re-evaluate
00:07:58.340
spending initiatives and scale them back, given that they've generated so little benefit. The
00:08:03.940
Carney government will deliver its first budget on Tuesday. And beware the budget, folks,
00:08:08.340
because there's going to be a lot of investment deficits. And generally, when governments spend a
00:08:15.420
lot of money on stuff like this and pick winners and losers, you end up being the big loser.
