A Rush to the Exits, Forget Immigration, Canada Has An Emigration Crisis. - True North News - Why I would like to leave Canada. - Why I don t like living in Canada. - What would you do if you were stuck here? - Why would you leave Canada?
00:00:00.160Hi there, it's John and welcome to the channel. It is Monday, December the 9th, down with my big blue mug in my basement around 5 o'clock in the morning.
00:00:08.200I'm going to go upstairs and I'm going to refresh my coffee soon. This one's getting a little lukewarm.
00:00:12.720Down here with my cat Blue today. He's going to help me out on this video or be a little bit of a distraction.
00:00:19.780But, you know, there's a number of things happening in the world right now.
00:00:24.000Not a lot of things bubbling under as far as politics or worldwide interesting stories.
00:00:29.380There's probably something coming up later today, but I wanted to talk about an article I saw in True North on their website, tnc.news.
00:00:38.100True North is a Canadian news organization. Candice Malcolm, a journalist here, started it up a number of years ago.
00:00:43.640They have a great YouTube channel. You might want to check that out as well.
00:00:46.800The article is, A Rush to the Exits, Forget Immigration, Canada Has an Emigration Crisis.
00:00:53.180And the reason I'm bringing this up is because this is something I've thought about in recent years.
00:00:58.140And I'll get to that in just a moment. I want to read you just one of the paragraphs from this story.
00:01:03.560Who wrote this? Scott Innes wrote the story, okay?
00:01:07.360Emigration is the flip side of the immigration issue, a side that has been largely ignored.
00:01:14.020Statistics Canada estimates that more than 104,000 people left Canada in 2023-2024,
00:01:21.960a number that has been rising for the past few years.
00:01:25.840Another study put the number of Canadian citizens living abroad in 2016 at between 2.9 million and 5.5 million,
00:01:34.020with a medium scenario of 4,038,700, or about 12.6% of the Canadian population that year,
00:01:43.900the latest for which this kind of analysis exists.
00:01:47.040That's a lot of people. We've got a population here of about 4 million people.
00:01:51.720So why am I bringing this up? Because this is something I've thought about quite a bit.
00:01:57.540It's no secret that I don't like Canada.
00:02:00.600Now, don't get me wrong. I love Alberta. I love Calgary.
00:02:04.440You know, where I live in southeast Calgary, if you go east, you're in the prairies.
00:02:09.140If you go west, you're in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
00:02:11.540It's an amazing place to live. It really is. I love it here.
00:02:15.480In fact, whenever I tell people where I'm from, I don't say I'm from Canada.
00:02:19.180I say from Alberta. All right? I'm from Calgary, Alberta. Proud.
00:02:22.680And, you know, I lived in Ontario most of my life until 11, 12 years ago.
00:02:26.540I lived in Ontario, and I would never go back after living here.
00:02:29.560But I've thought a lot about getting the hell out of Canada.
00:02:33.940I wish I could take Calgary and Alberta with me.
00:02:36.300The reason is because, first of all, I hate the weather.
00:02:41.300You know, I'm not Canadian, and people say Canadian, so you live in, you know, awful weather.
00:02:45.140It's beautiful in the summertime. I love summer weather.
00:02:47.500I absolutely love it. I love the heat. My wife doesn't.
00:02:49.940I love the heat, but I can't stand winter.
00:02:51.960As a matter of fact, it's only December 9th right now,
00:02:53.800and I suffer from a thing called seasonal affective disorder.
00:02:57.080And I get winter depression, and it's hit me early this year, really early.
00:03:00.960And I've really got to hold on tight for March, which is months away now, okay?
