Highwood Pass is the highest road crossing in all of the Rocky Mountains. I rode up here today from Kananaskis Village, 50km north of where I am right now. My first 30k was pretty easy, and the last 20k was a lot of climbing. You can see the sign for Highwood Pass, 7,239 feet, 2,206 meters. Not a terribly steep climb up here, but pretty steady. Going down is going to be a blast.
00:00:00.760Okay, so here I am on that Highwood Pass, and I've been told that this is the highest road crossing in all of the Rocky Mountains.
00:00:10.140I rode up here today. I parked my car and rode from Kananaskis Village, which is 50 kilometers, well, that would be to the north of where I am right now.
00:00:21.000My first 30K pretty easy, and the last 20K a lot of climbing. You can see the sign for Highwood Pass, 7,239 feet, 2,206 meters.
00:00:33.820Not a terribly steep climb up here, but pretty steady. Going down is going to be a blast because I think I'm going to probably hit 70 all the way down, so I'll get some kilometers behind me real quick.
00:00:45.760But it's just beautiful up here. As you can see, I'm up into the snow line as well, and even at that point, we're at 7,339 feet, a couple thousand more feet up to the top of these mountains here.
00:00:56.360So we're pretty high up here, but not too cold either. 16 degrees. When I left Kananaskis Village, it was 22.
00:01:04.860So it's not too bad up here. I do have arm warmers on, but other than that, doing pretty good.
00:01:09.520Saw some bear coming up too. Some people stopped and told me I had to watch out two grizzly bears at the side of the road,
00:01:14.960so I had to be kind of careful. A lot of Rocky Mountain sheep as well on the way up, so I'm going to watch for them on the way down.
00:01:22.780Lots of fun. 50 more K to go to get back to the car.
