John Bolton - Independence Calendar (Episode #13) - March 1st, 2026

00:00:00.000 Welcome to the Independence Calendar. We're here in the belly of the beast, Banff, Alberta.

00:00:07.140 What a beautiful place. And we're getting our signatures and we're doing it well.

00:00:15.580 Hi, it's John and welcome to the Independence Calendar for Sunday, March the 1st.

00:00:20.440 Episode number 13 here with my cat Smudge today, who's sitting on my lap. Hop down, Smudge.

00:00:26.800 She wants you to vote for independence, okay? So do it for the cat. Do it for my cat Smudge.

00:00:31.820 Good to be with you today. Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Albertan for the intro today. Awesome stuff. Thanks, guys.

00:00:38.800 Dale and Vicki, I love you guys. And out in Banff, these people are machines when it comes to the independence movement.

00:00:46.680 I appreciate that. If you'd like to be at the beginning of the Independence Calendar, do just like they did.

00:00:52.260 Tell me your name, where you're from, and say you're watching the Independence Calendar.

00:00:56.060 Okay, so what we're going to do today is, I'm going to try to keep it short if I can.

00:01:00.660 So it is, when I'm recording this, it's 7.17 in the morning.

00:01:05.160 I've been up since shortly after 2, but I went to bed around 11, so I haven't had a lot of sleep.

00:01:10.280 And I don't sleep much, as you know.

00:01:12.560 But I got up this morning to edit a video.

00:01:15.660 Yesterday I was out. I had a full Independence Day yesterday.

00:01:18.920 We had some snow here on Friday night in Calgary, and it was coming down just unbelievably on Friday night.

00:01:25.380 My wife and I were out for dinner.

00:01:27.480 And I thought, you know, I wonder if those people are going to be out there again tomorrow collecting signatures on petitions.

00:01:33.460 So I thought, I'll go out and visit some of them.

00:01:35.120 So I did.

00:01:35.640 And here's some video you're seeing over top of what I'm saying here of me going out yesterday.

00:01:39.860 I visited, and I dropped off some gifts.

00:01:41.740 I'll put a link at the end, a card at the end, so you can click on this.

00:01:45.260 It was a real fun day and inspiring, but these people are out in the worst weather.

00:01:49.460 So I went out, and I got video on that.

00:01:51.820 And then I went out to dinner last night with a whole bunch of people involved with the Independence Movement.

00:01:56.580 And the next phase of the Independence Movement is actually coming up.

00:01:59.620 So if you're a canvasser, you know, keep in tune with what's going on,

00:02:03.960 because the door-to-door campaign is coming up very soon, and it's going to be very important.

00:02:08.940 You're going to probably knock on 10 doors and get one signature,

00:02:11.820 but you're going to be making contact with thousands of people

00:02:15.480 and putting a bug in their ear about how good Independence will be for Alberta.

00:02:19.600 And that's, it's a public relations event that's going to be happening when it comes to door-to-door.

00:02:24.560 So you'll want to go out and do that.

00:02:25.860 But they were talking about this last night, and then I got up to edit the video this morning.

00:02:30.040 So I've been up for about five hours.

00:02:32.200 I'm going to try to keep it as short as possible today, because I need to get some sleep.

00:02:36.160 So what is on the calendar today?

00:02:38.200 Okay, well, we're going to talk about signing locations again.

00:02:42.740 Very, very simple to do that.

00:02:45.120 And all you have to do, really, is go to stayfreealberta.com.

00:02:49.040 And actually, more of these things are spreading in the U.S.,

00:02:52.000 which is really exciting and encouraging as well.

00:02:54.640 So you'll hear about that coming up.

00:02:56.360 I have a petition signing event coming up.

00:02:59.180 I'll talk about it more in just a moment, but it's going to be different.

00:03:02.160 It's going to be fun.

00:03:03.240 And I want you to take part in it.

00:03:05.060 So stay tuned for that.

00:03:06.040 Got some great submissions, pictures, and videos this week.

00:03:09.200 Keep them coming.

00:03:10.080 My email address, johnboltonab at gmail.com.

00:03:14.020 Love getting your emails.

00:03:15.700 I try to read them all.

00:03:18.020 I can't respond to them all.

00:03:20.440 I do respond to a few.

00:03:21.680 And generally, when I do respond, it's not a lot of words, because I get hundreds of email.

00:03:26.460 But keep them coming.

00:03:27.360 Again, johnboltonab at gmail.com.

00:03:29.400 Send me your pictures, your videos, anything Alberta independence.

00:03:32.560 I would love to hear from you.

00:03:33.680 And last week, I ended up speaking to Derek from Unacceptable Fringe.

00:03:38.180 He's got a new book out.

00:03:39.180 Some of the proceeds from this book going to Stay Free Alberta to help with the independence movement.

00:03:44.080 But we talked about some other things as well.

00:03:46.060 So we'll have a segment of that for you coming up in just a moment.

00:03:49.220 Now, as far as where to go to sign, stayfreealberta.com is the place to go.

00:03:55.440 So this is stayfreealberta.com.

00:03:59.000 And this is the page you get when you click on where to sign.

00:04:01.900 And you get the question we all want to answer yes to.

00:04:04.920 Do you agree that the province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?

00:04:10.320 They're still looking for canvassers.

00:04:11.920 So click on that button.

00:04:13.320 Please donate if you can.

00:04:15.020 And then there is the request to sign the petition button.

00:04:18.140 For those of you who might not be able to get out to a petition signing location, you can click on that.

00:04:23.340 Put your name and information in there.

00:04:25.300 And there are canvassers who might come right to your door.

00:04:28.980 So that's awesome.

00:04:29.900 Now, if you go over here, it says there's 214 signing locations available.

00:04:34.260 So impossible to go through all of them here.

00:04:36.680 But, for instance, if you wanted to find out if anything's going on in Calgary, you can drop CAL in there.

00:04:41.840 It'll show you the different places where you can find a petition signing location in Calgary.

00:04:46.200 How about Edmonton?

00:04:47.460 Yeah, there you go.

00:04:48.340 And how about Okotoks?

00:04:51.320 Yeah, there's one in Okotoks as well.

00:04:53.280 So that's the place to go for everything Alberta independence.

00:04:56.940 I like to put this together every week.

00:04:59.620 It's a little bit of an information role.

00:05:03.500 So you can find the different places where there are actually speakers coming up in the next few weeks.

00:05:08.600 And we've also got some international activity going on, as you've heard over the last couple of weeks down in Yuma, Arizona.

00:05:15.560 But that is spreading as well.

00:05:17.300 So let's take a look at what's going on right now when it comes to events and activities.

00:05:22.080 And we'll use our song, Pop-Up Independence, from our good guy, Squid Toke.

00:05:26.520 I think this is becoming our theme song for our event roll right here on the Independence calendar.

00:05:33.500 We'll be right back.

00:06:03.500 We've been shrinking on the map, just a corner, just a stat

00:06:09.160 But there's a border in our brain now, drawn in red and black

00:06:15.640 Pop goes the province right out the back of your mind

00:06:21.280 One day you look up, we're a dotted foreign line 0.96

00:06:28.660 Pop new passports, same old northern sky

00:06:32.780 Pop up independent, some while you were passing by

00:06:39.960 Ottawa is half asleep, arguing in marble halls

00:06:46.140 We're out here in work boots, fixing cracks they never saw

00:06:52.280 Pretty amazing that that event is happening in Scottsdale, Arizona on Tuesday

00:06:57.500 Hello to all our friends in Independence, our fellow Albertans

00:07:01.020 Who are wintering to the south, thanks for signing the petition

00:07:04.920 Now I want to talk about something I've been wanting to do for weeks

00:07:08.900 And I've been looking for a window of opportunity

00:07:11.080 A window in the weather, I guess you could say

00:07:13.320 And this is the petition signing event I've been talking about

00:07:16.840 And many of you, thank you, have got back to me and said you want to help

00:07:20.860 And I appreciate that, more on that in just a moment

00:07:22.920 Let's take a look at the weather though

00:07:24.300 Here is the weather over the next week here in Calgary

00:07:27.900 And Saturday is the 7th of March

00:07:30.680 And that is the day we're going to have our petition signing event

00:07:35.860 Okay, look at the weather, 9 degrees

00:07:38.120 So it's going to be an outstanding day for a petition signing event

00:07:41.540 I want this to be a little different

00:07:44.940 Okay, generally you have people out there

00:07:47.060 And they have a table, they maybe have a tent

00:07:48.780 And they have their petition papers

00:07:50.580 And they sign people up

00:07:51.600 But we're going to do something a little bit different here

00:07:54.300 And we're going to have kind of an independence happening

00:07:57.800 That's what I'm looking for

00:07:59.100 And I'm going to try to add more surprises as the week go on

00:08:02.260 But this is what I'm thinking about right here

00:08:04.560 The pop-up petition from a trunk event

00:08:09.300 Okay, so instead of having a table out there

00:08:12.480 What I would like you to do

00:08:13.480 If you're one of the people that comes out to be part of this event

00:08:16.520 I'm going to contact you

00:08:17.800 I want you to take maybe a foldable chair

00:08:21.960 Or a chair of some type

00:08:23.540 Throw it in your car

00:08:24.360 And throw maybe a TV tray or a small table into your car

00:08:27.320 And I'm going to have you sit at the back of your car with your table

00:08:30.460 We're going to provide you with all the petition papers you need

00:08:33.080 You'll need to bring your badge along with you

00:08:35.040 We'll get you a pen

00:08:36.240 And you can sign up people right there from the trunk of your car

00:08:40.520 And if it's a little bit cool

00:08:41.580 It's supposed to be a nice day

00:08:42.620 You can get in your car to stay warm

00:08:44.520 So as you can see here

00:08:45.480 This is Saturday, March the 7th

00:08:47.520 This will be from 10 until 4 p.m.

00:08:49.460 At the Auburn Bay Dog Walk Park

00:08:51.500 52nd Street, Southeast, and Auburn Bay Drive

00:08:54.580 Now, they're regularly doing a petition signing there on Saturdays

00:08:58.880 But I spoke to the people when I was there yesterday

00:09:00.800 They're all in on this

00:09:02.280 This is going to be fun

00:09:03.080 So if you want to sign the petition, bring your identification

00:09:05.480 If you're not signing the petition

00:09:08.120 Or you're somebody who wants to help out

00:09:10.520 Or just want to be part of this happening

00:09:12.300 Come by, say hi

00:09:14.080 I'm going to get some coffee and bring it out to the event

00:09:17.020 We're going to have a bouncy castle for the kids

00:09:20.000 Okay?

00:09:21.580 This is one of the surprises

00:09:22.960 Now, here's the thing

00:09:26.520 Now, this is really cool

00:09:27.480 This is one of the bouncy castles you'd like to stand beside

00:09:31.280 And get your picture taken with it

00:09:32.840 Because this is likely to be the bouncy castle

00:09:36.440 That was at the trucker convoy in Ottawa

00:09:38.860 That scared the Liberals and Justin Trudeau so much

00:09:41.840 We're going to have that bouncy castle

00:09:43.920 At this petition signing event

00:09:46.500 On Saturday, March the 7th

00:09:48.860 I'm not kidding!

00:09:50.680 Okay?

00:09:51.640 So you can bring your kids out

00:09:52.940 And again, more surprises coming up

00:09:54.800 I'm looking for a costume or something

00:09:56.820 To put somebody to wave the flag out on 52nd Street

00:10:00.040 To draw people into this petition signing event

00:10:02.680 Now, if you are somebody that wanted to be part of this

00:10:06.260 I can't use everybody that got in touch with me

00:10:08.640 There's about 25 people

00:10:09.760 Who are canvassers who want to be there

00:10:12.340 And I don't need 25 canvassers

00:10:14.700 Maybe 3, 4, maybe 5 at the most

00:10:16.660 But I would love you to drop by sometime

00:10:19.260 Between 10 and 4

00:10:20.480 This coming Saturday

00:10:22.040 And just hang out

00:10:23.000 And let's talk independence

00:10:24.040 And I'd love to meet you as well

00:10:25.520 So let's make this an independence event

00:10:27.740 Unlike anything else that's happened

00:10:29.820 Since the beginning of the petition signing

00:10:31.720 In early January

00:10:32.480 That's what I would like to see happen

00:10:34.460 On Saturday, March the 7th

00:10:36.420 So if you have contacted me by email

00:10:38.540 I have flagged all your email

00:10:40.440 I'll be sending something out to you

00:10:41.820 Probably this afternoon

00:10:42.860 After I get a bit of sleep

00:10:44.600 And then I'll be in contact with you

00:10:46.800 If I can have you

00:10:47.540 If I need you to come out

00:10:48.540 And be one of the canvassers next week

00:10:50.300 And if you haven't actually done

00:10:52.620 Any petition signing

00:10:53.640 But you have your badge right now

00:10:54.960 And you haven't done it

00:10:56.160 It might be a good opportunity

00:10:57.240 For you to be there

00:10:58.020 To learn how to do that as well

00:10:59.500 Okay

00:10:59.840 So this is coming up

00:11:01.260 Saturday, March the 7th

00:11:02.500 The pop-up petition

00:11:03.480 From a trunk event

00:11:04.500 Bouncy Castle

00:11:05.400 Coffee

00:11:05.900 Some other surprises as well

00:11:07.880 I hope you can be there

00:11:09.460 I'm excited about this

00:11:10.840 And I've got lots of help

00:11:11.720 From other people around the area

00:11:13.060 Who are organizing pop-up events

00:11:15.380 Here in Southeast Calgary

00:11:17.220 It's going to be great

00:11:18.140 And unfortunately

00:11:18.860 I couldn't find a place inside

00:11:20.160 But it looks like the weather

00:11:21.120 Is going to be great

00:11:22.020 Now let's move on

00:11:23.380 To your submissions

00:11:24.700 Over the last week

00:11:25.800 I love getting your pictures

00:11:27.060 And your videos

00:11:27.740 Please keep them coming to me

00:11:29.400 And if you've sent something

00:11:30.420 To me in the past

00:11:31.160 At my email address

00:11:32.080 JohnBoltonAB at gmail.com

00:11:34.320 And it hasn't made it

00:11:35.340 To the calendar as of yet

00:11:37.200 I may have missed it

00:11:38.640 Just send it to me

00:11:40.160 And I'll try to get it on

00:11:41.180 An upcoming show

00:11:41.880 Let's take a look

00:11:42.540 At your pictures

00:11:43.120 And submissions

00:11:44.040 Over the last week

00:11:45.220 Before I get to your submissions

00:11:54.540 I just want to say

00:11:55.400 Thank you so much

00:11:56.400 For sending them to me

00:11:57.380 I love to see where you are

00:11:58.980 And what people are doing

00:12:00.580 With the independence movement

00:12:02.040 Keep them coming

00:12:03.420 Keep those submissions coming

00:12:05.000 Anytime you see something

00:12:06.400 Alberta Independence

00:12:07.300 Or if you've got something

00:12:08.280 Around your house

00:12:08.980 JohnBoltonAB at gmail.com

00:12:12.300 Let's get to your submissions

00:12:13.360 Now earlier this week

00:12:14.920 I did speak with Derek

00:12:16.060 From Unacceptable Fringe

00:12:17.320 A short segment of the interview

00:12:19.060 I did with him

00:12:19.860 Here on the channel

00:12:20.780 Coming up in just a moment

00:12:22.600 But he did bring up

00:12:24.080 How exciting and exhilarating

00:12:26.140 It was to see people

00:12:27.280 Signing the petition

00:12:28.760 Down in the United States

00:12:30.320 And we were all uplifted

00:12:31.920 Last week when we saw

00:12:33.060 Pictures and videos

00:12:34.160 From Yuma, Arizona

00:12:35.540 I'd like to thank Glenn

00:12:36.720 For sending in these photos

00:12:38.080 For me

00:12:38.680 It really is outstanding

00:12:40.580 To see this

00:12:41.520 All of these people

00:12:42.920 Going out down south

00:12:44.360 Of the border

00:12:44.940 In the sunny south

00:12:45.880 So thanks to Glenn

00:12:46.660 For all these pictures

00:12:47.460 And all the people

00:12:49.000 In Yuma

00:12:49.700 For signing up

00:12:50.560 Now

00:12:50.800 Yuma did not want 0.99

00:12:52.340 To be outdone

00:12:53.380 We've got a signing

00:12:55.620 Coming up

00:12:56.200 In Scottsdale, Arizona

00:12:58.100 On Tuesday

00:12:59.480 From 10.30am

00:13:00.940 Until 1.30pm

00:13:02.140 At the Rotary Park

00:13:03.440 At 7844E

00:13:05.600 Double Tree Ranch Road

00:13:07.020 In Scottsdale, Arizona

00:13:08.340 They are signing

00:13:09.400 A petition there

00:13:10.400 The independence movement

00:13:11.840 Has gone international, folks

00:13:13.620 Teresa sent me

00:13:15.380 This fantastic video

00:13:16.860 Part of the slow roll

00:13:18.360 Into Edmonton last week

00:13:19.700 You know, I wanted to go to that

00:13:21.080 But I got busy on Saturday

00:13:22.500 I'm going to the next one

00:13:23.640 For sure

00:13:24.200 I spoke to Mr. and Mrs. Albertan

00:13:26.660 Who helped arrange

00:13:27.540 For the slow roll

00:13:28.200 Thanks, Teresa

00:13:28.840 For this great video

00:13:30.360 She said

00:13:30.840 34.5 cars started

00:13:32.700 They picked up five

00:13:35.040 On the way

00:13:35.460 That's just terrific

00:13:36.400 Betty sent more pictures

00:13:43.160 Elaine sent this

00:13:44.320 From her winter home

00:13:45.240 In Oliver, BC

00:13:46.200 Elaine, thanks for this

00:13:47.360 You know, I know Oliver

00:13:48.700 I've ridden my bike

00:13:49.660 Through Oliver

00:13:50.220 On a number of occasions

00:13:51.680 Like riding in that area

00:13:53.000 Of British Columbia

00:13:53.840 She says she can't wait

00:13:55.420 To sign the petition

00:13:56.520 We can hardly wait

00:13:57.820 For you to do it, Elaine

00:13:58.820 GK ran into a friend

00:14:00.620 Albertan

00:14:01.940 On the slow roll

00:14:02.880 Great photo here

00:14:13.340 Thanks so much

00:14:14.060 For that

00:14:14.640 I do appreciate it

00:14:15.980 Tammy at a signing location

00:14:17.860 Working hard for independence

00:14:19.120 Tammy

00:14:19.500 I did a video

00:14:20.680 All about you

00:14:21.560 Called the Warriors

00:14:22.480 Of Independence

00:14:23.380 I put that up

00:14:24.820 Earlier this morning

00:14:26.220 You might want to

00:14:26.840 Check that out

00:14:32.980 Somebody with a great pick

00:14:35.400 From his flag

00:14:40.460 Katrina thanks so much

00:14:41.520 For this

00:14:41.940 Betty signed up

00:14:43.520 With Gene

00:14:44.180 Now Betty

00:14:45.220 What I did here

00:14:45.960 Is I blocked off

00:14:46.760 The canvas or badge number

00:14:48.240 A lot of people

00:14:48.880 Send me pictures

00:14:50.060 With badges

00:14:51.500 And I'm not sure

00:14:52.440 If it can be used

00:14:53.320 For anything

00:14:53.920 But I'm just

00:14:55.480 Kind of concerned

00:14:56.040 About that

00:14:56.420 So I blocked

00:14:56.860 That number out myself

00:14:57.760 Thanks Betty

00:14:58.340 For the pick

00:14:59.200 And Gary sent me in

00:15:00.620 These great pictures

00:15:01.700 As well

00:15:02.200 Thank you so much

00:15:03.340 For all of your

00:15:04.320 Submissions this week

00:15:06.060 And I'd like to see

00:15:07.200 A lot more

00:15:07.960 Pretty good number

00:15:09.300 Of pictures and stuff

00:15:10.460 This week

00:15:10.900 But we need even more

00:15:12.300 I'd like this to go on

00:15:13.280 For four or five minutes

00:15:14.320 So if you've got

00:15:14.920 Some independence pictures

00:15:15.980 A flag on your house

00:15:17.640 A flag on your car

00:15:19.600 Or a petition

00:15:20.620 Signing location

00:15:21.560 Anything Alberta

00:15:23.160 Send it to me

00:15:34.080 Great submissions this week

00:15:36.560 Thanks so much

00:15:37.300 I do appreciate it

00:15:38.340 More pictures from

00:15:39.040 Yuma, Arizona as well

00:15:40.380 Which is really cool to see

00:15:41.660 And if you've got a video

00:15:43.100 And it might be too long

00:15:44.160 To send me through email

00:15:45.260 You can always put it into

00:15:46.480 iCloud, Dropbox

00:15:48.660 Or Google Drive

00:15:50.220 And then send me the link

00:15:51.440 I can download it

00:15:52.700 And have it on an upcoming

00:15:53.980 Independence calendar

00:15:55.220 Now I want to get to

00:15:56.740 Our interview segment

00:15:57.700 Of the calendar this week

00:15:59.480 I had a chance to talk

00:16:00.780 With Derek Smith

00:16:01.580 You may know him

00:16:02.980 As Unacceptable Fringe

00:16:04.440 He's a big

00:16:05.920 Strong proponent

00:16:07.200 Of the independence movement

00:16:08.540 And does some great stuff

00:16:09.620 On his channel

00:16:10.140 Be sure to subscribe

00:16:10.980 On YouTube

00:16:11.860 He's written a book

00:16:12.660 And this is his latest book

00:16:14.320 Bestseller by the way

00:16:15.620 On Amazon

00:16:16.140 It made it to number one

00:16:17.440 A great thing about this

00:16:19.020 Is it's written by Derek

00:16:20.360 It is illustrated by

00:16:21.780 The Rise of Alberta

00:16:23.060 You need to follow

00:16:23.780 Rise of Alberta

00:16:24.580 On X

00:16:25.400 Great way to get information

00:16:26.960 About the independence movement

00:16:28.040 But some of the proceeds

00:16:29.020 From this book

00:16:29.640 Go directly to

00:16:30.800 Stay Free Alberta

00:16:31.740 To help support

00:16:32.980 Independence here in Alberta 0.87

00:16:34.660 So let's hear from Derek

00:16:36.540 Unacceptable Fringe

00:16:37.840 Here on the calendar

00:16:38.740 It's been a while

00:16:39.800 Since I've spoken to you

00:16:40.860 How are you feeling

00:16:41.620 About the independence movement

00:16:42.860 Right now

00:16:43.420 And why

00:16:44.840 Are you so invested

00:16:47.180 In the independence movement

00:16:48.640 Right now?

00:16:49.180 Well I think

00:16:50.600 When it comes to Alberta

00:16:52.280 I've spoken many times

00:16:54.200 On our broadcasts

00:16:55.520 That I love Canada

00:16:56.960 I'm Canada born

00:16:58.600 I was born in Manitoba

00:16:59.980 I've spent over 30 years

00:17:01.960 Of my life in Alberta

00:17:02.980 But Tamara Leach 0.99

00:17:06.400 I think said it best

00:17:07.160 When we went to

00:17:07.700 The Rebel News event

00:17:08.500 Last Saturday

00:17:09.200 In Edmonton

00:17:10.440 That the Freedom Convoy

00:17:12.520 When you look at

00:17:13.260 All the people

00:17:14.240 On the overpasses

00:17:15.160 With their flags

00:17:15.860 The true spirit

00:17:16.720 Of Canada coming out 0.98

00:17:17.860 In support of

00:17:19.040 The Freedom Convoy

00:17:19.820 She said

00:17:20.240 You know

00:17:20.440 I kind of felt like

00:17:21.120 This was our last attempt

00:17:22.460 To keep and hold

00:17:24.100 The country together

00:17:25.060 To revive

00:17:25.800 That spirit

00:17:27.240 Of what Canada

00:17:28.360 Used to be

00:17:29.200 Especially pre

00:17:30.460 The Justin Trudeau era

00:17:31.860 The invokement

00:17:34.200 Of the Emergencies Act

00:17:35.240 Kind of sealed that fate

00:17:36.400 That

00:17:36.660 It's not the people

00:17:39.040 Of Canada

00:17:39.580 That are broken

00:17:40.280 It's the leadership

00:17:41.480 It's the way

00:17:43.080 The government runs

00:17:44.100 The endless hamster wheel

00:17:45.480 That we seem to be on

00:17:46.440 I've been around people

00:17:48.580 In Alberta

00:17:49.020 For many decades

00:17:49.960 That have said

00:17:50.720 You know

00:17:51.380 We should join the US

00:17:52.300 Or we'd be better

00:17:53.200 If we left

00:17:53.900 And it was kind of

00:17:55.020 Low end talk

00:17:56.900 Like fringe

00:17:57.920 If you might say

00:17:58.820 Like amongst

00:17:59.400 Small groups of people

00:18:00.720 When all of a sudden

00:18:02.100 Last year

00:18:02.680 Danielle Smith

00:18:03.360 Pops up and says

00:18:04.420 Hey

00:18:04.820 You either change

00:18:05.900 These nine bad laws

00:18:06.860 Or we're going to have

00:18:07.480 A unity crisis

00:18:08.280 And the conversation

00:18:10.280 All of a sudden

00:18:10.820 Gets invigorated

00:18:12.620 With massive support

00:18:14.560 That was around the time

00:18:16.940 That I met with Jeff Rath

00:18:18.080 And I met with

00:18:18.840 Mitch Sylvester

00:18:19.740 And Dr. Modry

00:18:20.860 When they were

00:18:21.580 Running Alberta

00:18:22.480 Prosperity Project

00:18:23.460 And you know

00:18:24.460 When you start to listen

00:18:25.360 To the actual

00:18:26.180 Numbers behind things

00:18:28.520 Or the benefits

00:18:29.240 For Alberta to leave 0.94

00:18:30.340 It instantly became

00:18:32.160 Viable

00:18:34.420 I'll say in my eyes

00:18:35.660 To start saying

00:18:36.280 You know

00:18:36.580 I'm okay with

00:18:38.140 You know

00:18:38.600 My wife

00:18:39.120 Like we've bought our home

00:18:40.160 We're secure

00:18:41.180 We make a living

00:18:42.560 But I'm looking at my kids

00:18:44.380 And I'm looking at their future

00:18:45.620 And saying

00:18:46.120 How are my kids

00:18:46.880 Going to get a job

00:18:47.580 How are they going to

00:18:48.120 Buy a home

00:18:48.680 How are they going to

00:18:49.960 Raise a family of their own

00:18:51.240 When I see a lot of people

00:18:53.580 In I guess

00:18:54.120 Gen A or Gen Alpha

00:18:55.200 However they pronounce it now

00:18:56.380 Still living in their parents' houses

00:18:58.360 They can't get out

00:18:59.100 They can't get jobs

00:18:59.980 I think

00:19:02.340 Corey Morgan

00:19:04.020 Put it best

00:19:04.560 At the Rebel event

00:19:05.320 On Saturday

00:19:05.860 That

00:19:06.200 Even if

00:19:07.740 Pierre Polyev

00:19:08.440 Became

00:19:09.100 Prime Minister

00:19:10.160 If things had gone different

00:19:11.700 In the last

00:19:12.900 Federal election

00:19:13.880 Sure

00:19:15.700 We might have seen

00:19:16.360 Some interprovincial trade

00:19:17.500 We might have seen

00:19:18.380 You know

00:19:19.120 Some pipelines

00:19:19.820 Get approved

00:19:20.440 Or

00:19:20.940 A few minor things

00:19:22.420 Happen that make our lives

00:19:23.540 A little easier

00:19:24.260 But he says

00:19:25.120 The fact of the matter

00:19:26.120 Is if you go back

00:19:26.740 To the Stephen Harper days

00:19:27.840 If you look at

00:19:28.760 How much representation

00:19:30.500 Did Alberta get

00:19:31.460 When Stephen Harper

00:19:32.140 Was Prime Minister

00:19:32.820 Very little

00:19:33.780 And the reason for that

00:19:35.260 Isn't their fault

00:19:36.100 It's not Pierre's fault either

00:19:37.340 It's the system

00:19:38.360 It's the fact that

00:19:39.340 They can't open the constitution

00:19:41.160 They can't change things

00:19:42.940 Because they need

00:19:43.480 Seven of ten provinces

00:19:44.600 Our system isn't designed

00:19:46.340 For representation in the West

00:19:47.880 So

00:19:48.200 Ultimately

00:19:49.200 Alberta independence

00:19:50.560 Makes more sense than ever

00:19:52.380 Are you

00:19:53.100 Are you still as optimistic

00:19:54.340 Or even more optimistic

00:19:55.560 Than you have been

00:19:56.320 In the past

00:19:57.260 Regarding our

00:19:57.820 Chances 0.72

00:19:58.240 Whenever the question

00:19:59.920 On October 19th

00:20:01.060 Of course

00:20:01.460 Maybe

00:20:01.780 Maybe we get our own ballot

00:20:03.200 Who knows

00:20:03.640 That's maybe an argument

00:20:05.000 Or a discussion

00:20:05.800 For another day

00:20:06.400 But how are you feeling

00:20:07.000 Right now about things

00:20:07.840 Well I think

00:20:09.020 When it comes to

00:20:09.620 A separate question

00:20:10.500 On its own ballot

00:20:11.440 I think again

00:20:12.000 That's going to come down

00:20:12.720 To signatures

00:20:13.320 I think

00:20:13.940 When you look at the

00:20:15.840 We'll say the consensus

00:20:17.900 Amongst the public

00:20:19.080 That there's been

00:20:19.800 A lack of support

00:20:20.620 From the UCP

00:20:21.580 They're going to go

00:20:22.720 Where the votes

00:20:23.160 Are going to go

00:20:23.680 And if they see

00:20:24.680 Again

00:20:25.120 The targeted audience

00:20:26.200 Of a million plus

00:20:27.200 Signatures

00:20:28.120 They're going to have

00:20:28.740 To make a decision

00:20:29.540 That do we

00:20:30.660 Do we start

00:20:31.400 Falling in line

00:20:32.700 With what the

00:20:33.140 Independence crowd

00:20:33.780 Is talking about

00:20:34.420 Or do we risk

00:20:35.300 Losing those votes

00:20:36.180 If we suppress

00:20:37.800 This movement

00:20:38.400 So I think

00:20:39.520 Some things

00:20:41.140 That people are

00:20:41.620 Disgruntled about

00:20:42.340 Can change

00:20:43.140 Between now and October

00:20:44.240 In terms of

00:20:46.300 In terms of my perception

00:20:47.040 After seeing what

00:20:48.700 Happened in Yuma

00:20:49.300 Arizona over the

00:20:50.200 Weekend

00:20:50.480 Yeah

00:20:50.800 I think

00:20:52.500 It's safe to say

00:20:53.660 We're in a good

00:20:54.340 Position

00:20:54.760 I think we're

00:20:55.540 Doing better

00:20:55.960 Than I thought

00:20:56.540 We were going

00:20:56.940 To be doing

00:20:57.420 A lot of people

00:20:58.900 Have commented

00:20:59.420 I don't see

00:20:59.960 Lines anymore

00:21:00.760 I don't see

00:21:01.500 Massive groups

00:21:02.760 Of people

00:21:03.200 But people

00:21:04.280 Have to remember

00:21:04.900 At the start

00:21:05.520 Of this process

00:21:06.280 I believe it was

00:21:07.860 When you were

00:21:08.300 MCing the event

00:21:09.060 In Queensland

00:21:09.620 That was one

00:21:11.380 Of the first

00:21:11.800 Lines we seen

00:21:12.740 In this movement

00:21:13.840 There were very

00:21:14.680 Few canvassers

00:21:16.760 At that point

00:21:17.320 That had badges

00:21:18.080 That could get

00:21:18.780 Signatures

00:21:19.240 People were very

00:21:19.980 Eager

00:21:20.300 I think that's

00:21:21.620 Over 7500

00:21:22.540 Canvassers around 0.99

00:21:23.660 Alberta right now

00:21:24.500 So when you

00:21:26.080 Look at that

00:21:26.620 And start saying

00:21:27.220 If each canvasser

00:21:28.140 When you think

00:21:28.580 About those lines

00:21:29.340 Can get 100

00:21:30.600 Signatures

00:21:31.260 That's three quarters

00:21:32.300 Of a million

00:21:32.880 Signatures right there

00:21:34.100 We're on our way

00:21:36.980 Over the finish line

00:21:37.780 When it comes

00:21:38.220 To the target

00:21:38.900 Thanks a lot
