00:00:16.320 independence. It is really the first step forward to really getting to a point where we have a

00:00:23.660 referendum in the province of Alberta. This is going to happen, folks. And today, we got the

00:00:30.320 confirmation. We knew this was coming, but really, until this happened today, we weren't sure 100%,

00:00:37.920 but here it is. And this is on the Elections Alberta website. New citizen initiative petition issued

00:00:45.180 January 2nd, 2026. Put it down in your calendar. Remember this. It's an historic day here in Alberta.

00:00:51.900 I'll read a little bit of this for you. Today, Alberta's Chief Electoral Officer, Gordon McClure,

00:00:57.280 issued the citizen initiative petition for the constitutional referendum proposal,

00:01:02.200 a referendum relating to Alberta independence. Prior to issuing the petition, the Chief Electoral

00:01:08.500 Officer determined the requirements for the appointment of a chief financial officer for

00:01:12.620 the citizen initiative were met as required under Section 1.2 of the Citizen Initiative Act.

00:01:19.560 The notice on the citizen initiative petition page of Election Alberta's website has been updated.

00:01:25.080 I'll show you that right now. Here it is. Okay. We'll go back to the other page. Citizen initiative

00:01:31.560 petition signature sheets have been issued to the proponent. Signatures collected on or in other forms

00:01:38.280 will not be accepted. The proponent may now proceed with collecting signatures as set out in Division 2 of

00:01:45.180 the Citizen Initiative Act. Subject matter, a referendum relating to Alberta independence.

00:01:51.460 And here's the question, folks. Do you agree that the province of Alberta should cease to be a part

00:01:57.320 of Canada to become an independent state? The proponent, Mitch Sylvester. Congratulations to Mitch today.

00:02:05.420 The signature collection period starts tomorrow and it runs until May 2nd, 2026. And the number of signatures,

00:02:12.180 177,732. The proponent registers canvassers right now, and they're doing that right now. More details

00:02:22.280 on how you can volunteer to do that in just a moment. Registers canvassers may collect signatures

00:02:26.880 from eligible electors for a period of 120 days. So today, folks, this has been confirmed. Now,

00:02:34.360 if you're interested in volunteering, we need people to volunteer. There's a lot of people already

00:02:39.180 doing this, but you can go to the Alberta Prosperity Project website, albertaprosperity.com.

00:02:45.140 Just click on volunteer and volunteer your time to go out and collect signatures for this. Now,

00:02:50.700 I'm sure they're going to be having places where they're going to set up petitions that you can sign.
