00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel. It is Thursday, August the 13th. I hope you're
00:00:07.660 having a great day today. Thank you so much for being here. No doubt you're interested
00:00:11.320 in hearing what my guest has to say as we're a little over two months away from the vote
00:00:16.960 on October the 19th. The referendum is coming up and it's coming up quickly. It's amazing
00:00:21.940 how quickly the summer has gone by. It always goes by real quick and just think we'll soon
00:00:26.040 be at labor day snow will be flying perhaps in october by the time we have this referendum you
00:00:31.560 never know uh here in alberta but my guest today uh keith wilson from let alberta decide so good
00:00:37.780 to have you here once again it's been a while since i spoke to you i think the last time might
00:00:41.060 have been at ranchman's during the stampede so it's been too long it's been very busy that feels
00:00:46.800 to me like yesterday just to be clear it does yeah you know i had uh had tanya here at the house
00:00:52.320 last week, Tanya Clemens. It was fantastic. I've had her out in my garden. It was a beautiful day
00:00:58.140 out there. She's a remarkable person. And I just wanted to compliment you again for choosing her.
00:01:02.820 I said to her while she was here, I said, listen, you're so well-spoken. You're so articulate.
00:01:10.220 And you know what? She's just looked great on camera as well. She's like my sister. The camera
00:01:15.660 just loves her. She's a wonderful person. And congratulations for choosing her. I just adore
00:01:20.020 her and i think most people do well you know i think uh there's a there's one job in our society
00:01:27.460 that whoever signs up for it i think should get a medal and that is junior high school teachers
00:01:34.380 and she was she was a math and science junior high school teacher so you can't pull anything
00:01:42.760 over on her yeah uh she's confident she's smart as a whip and she understands the importance and
00:01:49.900 the opportunity that's before Alberta for independence. So she's amazing.
00:01:55.300 Yeah, she's really terrific. So I want to go through things pretty quickly today. Maybe we
00:01:59.380 can do like a rapid fire. There's a lot of things to go through. We don't want the video to go on
00:02:03.400 for 30 or 40 minutes, but I just wanted to ask you about this. I was out last week with an event
00:02:09.060 with Jason Levine. Maxine Bernier was there mostly talking about the referendum last time. And he had
00:02:14.560 an interesting perspective talking about what this referendum is about. What does it mean to you? What
00:02:19.500 is this referendum on October 19th about, Keith? Well, really what it's about is whether or not
00:02:25.860 the status quo is fine in terms of the relationship that Alberta has and Albertans have with Ottawa
00:02:31.840 and the rules and the spending and the taxes and the reckless policies, whether we're okay with
00:02:38.940 that carrying on, you know, sending the extra billions that we do each year to Ottawa for them
00:02:46.560 to misuse or whether you think alberta can do better this really is we're not this isn't the
00:02:52.980 independence vote uh that would be in the future this is about whether or not status quo is fine
00:02:59.720 i'm okay with the way canada's working i'm okay with the way canada's treating me and
00:03:04.440 and the cost of living and the affordability crisis for the next generation i'm all fine with
00:03:10.180 that or you think alberta can do better that's really what this this vote is about right that's
00:03:16.320 funny you say you talk about how people are doing really in the country. Report out from the Fraser
00:03:21.040 Institute. I just read this before you came on. Canadians spent more on taxes than for the basic
00:03:25.720 necessities of shelter, food and clothing combined last year. And I think that's pretty sad. Be great
00:03:30.560 to keep that money for ourselves. I want to move on to something. I think you saw a video that I
00:03:33.940 saw. I think it was Alberta primetime. He had, I don't know the name of the person hosting.
00:03:39.620 Seemed like a perfectly good guy with two experts on talking about foreign interference
00:03:44.000 and basically labeling the Alberta independence movement about this
00:03:48.140 and bringing up Trump as well.
00:03:49.400 Just your thoughts on that quickly.
00:03:51.500 Well, all of the imagery they had in the clip was all blue flags.
00:03:55.520 It was all independence events as the expert, you know,
00:04:02.740 from far away criminologist and others were talking.
00:04:07.280 But the reality is, you know, later today, it being a Thursday,
00:04:12.240 um my tpa third party advertiser will be filing a detailed uh disclosure report of every donation
00:04:21.960 we received over 50 this previous week the person people's contact information um and every donor
00:04:29.500 over 250 will be report will be publicly disclosed tomorrow uh on their website meanwhile thomas
00:04:37.540 Lukasik and Forever Canadian has expressly invited donations from outside of the province in writing
00:04:44.260 publicly, continues to have on his website that there's no restriction on the maximum donation
00:04:50.860 that he will accept, that you can send him an unlimited amount of money. Whereas myself and
00:04:57.300 the other third party advertisers like Corey Morgan, Jason Levine, John Thompson and others,
00:05:02.260 ladies for the independence women for independence group are all limited to a maximum donation of
00:05:09.700 five thousand dollars so which side is currently more vulnerable to foreign interference the stay
00:05:17.260 in canada side that's not following the rules that the chief electoral officer is deliberately
00:05:23.180 blatantly turning a blind eye to and not requiring disclosure because it's clear that lukasic's
00:05:30.020 engaging in referendum advertising. Where's the greater risk of foreign interference here? So
00:05:36.640 it's just another example of the bias in the media and how the status quo people who want
00:05:45.820 Alberta to not get a better deal are controlling the institutions, the media institutions.
00:05:53.220 Okay, moving on now. I've noticed on Axe, you've been commenting a lot on the so-called trade deal.
00:05:58.840 There's negotiations on right now. I find it fascinating. In about six days, there could be
00:06:02.940 these tariffs coming in that Donald Trump has threatened against Canada. You know,
00:06:07.980 it's been more than 470 days since the election on April the 28th last year. And all of a sudden,
00:06:14.900 this seems like a priority to the government. And apparently there's been an offer put on the
00:06:21.920 table from the Trump administration and our side just doesn't want to accept or make a deal here.
00:06:26.500 what are your thoughts on what's going on right now? Well, Carney's move of setting up a forward
00:06:31.380 operations center and command center to deal with this crisis in Tuscany, Italy was brilliant.
00:06:41.080 Oh, that's beautiful, Keith. Okay. But more seriously, and this is a serious matter,
00:06:49.660 what is really the takeaways from the current situation is, you know, the challenge that the
00:06:56.120 negotiators have for Canada is they have to try and find a way to keep the trade relationship
00:07:05.400 open with the largest market in the world, the largest economy in the world to support the
00:07:10.120 manufacturing jobs in Ontario, in Quebec. Well, what does Trump want? He wants those jobs to move
00:07:17.620 back to the US. The reason those jobs are in Canada is because of the low dollar.
00:07:22.900 if you can get your labor costs reduced by 20 to 30 percent because of the dollar you're going to
00:07:28.280 move as historically has happened over the last several decades those jobs from the u.s to canada
00:07:33.380 trump wants them back well he doesn't have the world's largest third largest reserve of oil in
00:07:41.060 that he can continue to produce in the united states he doesn't have our vast agricultural
00:07:47.180 resources uh canada's largest beef herd most of which goes to the united states to feed americans
00:07:53.640 he does not have potash and fertilizer like we have here in alberta and saskatchewan that he
00:07:59.340 desperately needs so albert so canada's negotiating strength is they're going to end up and they're
00:08:06.620 keep musing about using our natural resources superpowers and how we have leverage here in
00:08:16.840 alberta and saskatchewan with the united states to counteract the fact they've got no leverage
00:08:25.340 in ontario and quebec but that really illustrates alberta's power and how we would be better off
00:08:33.840 and it reinforces my theory and my view that i've been putting out there for a year which is
00:08:40.480 canada is too big canada is not the optimal size of government um it's too the economies are too
00:08:47.660 regionally diverse um uh the the uh the size of the country i saw an excellent analogy on x the
00:08:55.420 other day uh imagine if turkey was administering and ruling over france in europe that's the same
00:09:06.000 distance between edmonton and ottawa yeah yeah turkey and france yeah right yeah we're just so
00:09:12.040 vast and we have different regional economies different regional cultures so the fact that
00:09:17.680 the go-to move for the laurentians and the ottawa elites to preserve their power base
00:09:25.700 and serve their voters in central canada is to look to use the leverage of the inherent natural
00:09:33.900 power, economic power, natural resource power of Western Canada, particularly Alberta and
00:09:40.700 Saskatchewan, shows that those who think that maybe Alberta couldn't go alone are wrong
00:09:47.820 and shows that we would be positioned as an independent country to negotiate a much more
00:09:54.540 preferable trade deal with the United States than Ontario and Quebec ever could because they really
00:10:00.240 don't want or need, Trump doesn't want or need that much of what they've got relative to our
00:10:07.100 natural resources here in Alberta. What I find interesting as well, it's typical that they would
00:10:11.220 protect dairy in Quebec as well, because I think that's probably on the table. They're talking
00:10:16.720 about dairy. It's always brought up when it comes to the Trump administration, supply management,
00:10:21.740 whatnot. In fact, they're protecting the Bloc Quebecois who introduced that last year. It got
00:10:27.360 voted on. I would like less cost for my cream and my coffee. I'd love to see that happen here.
00:10:32.780 They want to protect Quebec, but they want to sacrifice the Alberta oil industry. It's very
00:10:36.460 typical of what happens from Ottawa. It's been happening for decades. Yeah. And what people need
00:10:42.300 to be clear on is that, you know, one of the reasons you impose tariffs is that another
00:10:47.480 jurisdiction is subsidizing their production and then being able to come into your market and
00:10:53.320 compete under cost. Well, the tariffs we have on dairy are not designed for that. The express
00:11:00.920 purpose of it is to create a wall so that there's no circumstance under which economically
00:11:07.980 a dairy producer in Wisconsin or Minnesota could profitably ship milk or dairy products into
00:11:19.000 Canada. That's, it's, it's intended to be a wall. And that's why Trump's so incensed by it. I mean,
00:11:24.020 it's like 400% or something, and they just keep jacking it up to make sure that no one can come
00:11:29.200 into the marketplace. And it's a very important issue for voters in Quebec and therefore no
00:11:35.400 political party, including the CPC, the Conservatives and Polly, I will touch it.
00:11:39.840 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll have to go back and watch the whole answer regarding trade. Cause I think
00:11:43.740 I missed half of it. I'm still laughing at your Tuscany joke. It's terrific. Or an operating
00:11:49.680 base, man. Yeah. I want to ask you about signs. I know signs are going up across the province.
00:11:55.700 You're very busy with Let Alberta Decide. You've got Corey out there, Alberta Women. I was talking
00:11:59.920 to some group, Alberta, a group from northern Alberta putting up signs. You're putting up
00:12:05.080 signs around the city. You're putting them and wrote a letter, I think, to a lot of the communities
00:12:09.220 across the province saying you're putting signs out there. Tell us quickly about that.
00:12:12.160 Sure. Well, there was an amendment to the provincial legislation in last fall, in 2025, that says, basically translated, it says no municipality can restrict by bylaw or otherwise, the placement of election signs and election advertising.
00:12:34.540 um referendum third-party advertising meets that legal definition uh so if you're a registered
00:12:43.700 third-party advertiser like let alberta decide or cory morgan or jason levine and other groups are
00:12:49.320 you're legally allowed to put signs up uh along the bullet you know the the the sides of of the
00:12:57.360 roads in calgary and edmonton and red deer and drumheller and stetler and grand prairie and so
00:13:03.160 on so I prepared a legal letter that I sent to the cities of Calgary and Edmonton and Leduc and
00:13:12.720 St. Albert Airdrie and so on most several municipalities and I explained the law because
00:13:20.200 I thought it would they're probably not aware of it they all have signed bylaws and my concern was
00:13:24.760 they would send their bylaw people out to start taking the signs down once they started popping
00:13:28.380 up on the like you see along the sides of roads within cities in high traffic areas and what's
00:13:35.820 interesting about this though is i emphasized in the letter that this only applies to election
00:13:42.280 signs which is defined to include third part referendum third party advertisers well what has
00:13:50.040 the chief electoral officer insisted that thomas lakasik and his red and white forever canadian
00:13:56.460 signs are not. The chief electoral officer has taken the position that they are not
00:14:01.660 a referendum third-party advertising. Therefore, they're not eligible for this exemption and
00:14:08.540 therefore Thomas Lukasik is not allowed legally to put his signs on municipal properties along
00:14:15.400 roadsides. What we also did though was we adopted the safety and aesthetic guidelines voluntarily
00:14:22.980 as an association as a as a tpa and put the cities on notice in that we're going to be
00:14:29.140 responsible in our placement of signs we would ensure safety and we've adopted the 30 meter
00:14:34.140 setback from an intersection not obstructing pedestrian activities view lines and so on
00:14:39.700 to ensure safety and that our signs don't become a nuisance you know there's a lot of fear out there
00:14:46.660 that people have unfortunately because of the polarized times to putting a sign on their yard
00:14:52.960 although that's increasing and I am thrilled to see every one that I see and you'll be seeing
00:14:58.140 more of them I'm sure but large our focus has been on large signs four by eight I've lost count
00:15:05.780 I have a team that leads that group and we have a tracking app where we we can
00:15:12.540 track the signs as they go up we have monitoring to repair for vandalism should it occur and but
00:15:19.960 our focus is on large signs within urban centers in high traffic areas. And people are going to
00:15:26.960 see more and more of those in the coming days and weeks. Great. Yeah, there are people who are afraid
00:15:33.260 to put signs up and just we'll move on here. But be careful out there. We've seen some lunatics
00:15:38.080 popping up online. One in particular that the profanity was intense. The person shouldn't be
00:15:44.940 driving a vehicle. So be careful out there, folks. We've been talking about this since
00:15:48.140 the petition campaign started back in January. We're getting down to the nitty-gritty here.
00:15:52.800 A couple of months left. You never know what's going to happen. Watch your back if you're out
00:15:56.000 there, regardless of what you're doing when it comes to the independence movement. I want to
00:15:59.520 ask you about scrutineers. Very important. I know that you're trying to get a lot of people
00:16:03.300 involved in being a scrutineer for the upcoming referendum. Tell us how people can get involved
00:16:08.220 in that and what you're up to. Sure. We're going to be launching a campaign later today
00:16:13.540 to make it easy for people who are interested in volunteering to become a scrutineer so a
00:16:20.460 scrutineer is a person who will be trained by us we'll have a group training process
00:16:26.780 and you would attend at the polling station for example some of the things you do before the
00:16:33.100 polling station opens you get and before they seal the boxes that your ballots go in
00:16:38.180 you get they open the lid and you get to see that there's nothing in there because one of
00:16:42.860 the old tricks is when the ballot when the polling station opens the box is half full and it's been
00:16:48.820 stuck yeah or it's got a false bottom or something like that so you'll be able to inspect that
00:16:53.620 you'll be able to observe uh to make sure that people who appear to be supporting independence
00:16:59.840 are not arbitrarily turned away uh you'll be able to observe other just to make sure that
00:17:07.020 the voting process is fair that's what a scrutineer there is there's an extra set of eyes
00:17:12.640 to ensure that there's no funny business there's no arbitrary or bias towards one side or the other
00:17:19.960 and that the voting's fair and then when the polls close scrutineers will observe the counting
00:17:25.780 and if a ballot is going to be invalidated and it looks pretty obvious who they're voting for
00:17:32.540 and it's for our side you get to pull that to the side and have a process to have that adjudicated
00:17:38.180 so that we can have confidence that the voting is done fairly.
00:17:42.280 Now, of course, there's going to be polling stations all across the province.
00:17:46.020 So we're going to need hundreds and hundreds of volunteers to do this.
00:17:51.360 So we're going to be calling on that.
00:17:53.380 And we'll try and work cooperatively and in an efficient manner with the other TPAs.
00:18:01.420 That's not the collude, doesn't trip up the colluding rule.
00:18:04.160 The colluding rule under the election finance is you can't collude to exceed a spending limit.
00:18:13.180 It only makes sense that we do group training, that we be efficient in how we interact with the chief electoral officer and his staff to ensure efficiency and competency with respect to scrutineers.
00:18:26.560 So if someone's interested in helping ensure that the election process is fair and efficient, please, when you see the notices, put your name forward and you'll get more information.
00:18:39.320 Yeah. By the way, we'll let people know your website, letalbertadecide.com.
00:18:42.960 I'm sure there'll be postings there. Great website for information as well.
00:18:46.340 And I'm sure there are a lot of people who want to be part of this and be a scrutineer.
00:18:49.880 So I think you're looking at maybe a thousand people or something like that, that many?
00:18:53.800 is it going to be minimally to pull it off we need between all the tpas we need 600 scrutineers
00:18:59.480 okay so but we'd like to have a thousand because we'll get some that you know probably won't
00:19:04.680 something will come up and they may not be able to do it and uh and so on so yeah and we have to
00:19:10.040 submit our list to elections alberta by august 24th so uh so we're going to need people to put
00:19:18.240 their names forward. The training won't occur till later, but it'll be urgent that people
00:19:24.700 in the next week offer up their name if they're willing to come forward and help.
00:19:29.340 Okay, moving on here. I was out at a Jason Levine event, Bruce Pardy, Dennis Kelma,
00:19:36.880 Matthew Rowley talking about a constitution, three different ideas or, you know, prospective
00:19:42.780 ideas for a constitution in the future. And apparently, Mitch Sylvester tonight is going
00:19:49.540 to be in Airdrie. I'm going to be there tonight. And he's going to be presenting a constitution
00:19:53.560 this evening. I want your thoughts on this. Well, I saw that announcement last night. I was
00:19:59.560 frankly surprised by it. And my name was put as associated with it as a number of others.
00:20:07.120 and um i've never seen it uh i yes i was involved in a two-day conference back in november to talk
00:20:15.420 about ideas for a constitution uh a future structure of a future government of alberta
00:20:22.400 as an independent country uh but we never reached consensus on what those features should be we had
00:20:29.620 a thorough discussion about uh the advantages and disadvantages of number of structures and
00:20:34.560 what things should be included in in a constitution and a bill of rights so i really don't know what's
00:20:40.700 being presented i i don't endorse whatever's being presented because i don't even know what it is
00:20:45.460 but i also believe fundamentally then and i believe now that it's not the right place for
00:20:52.500 any one group it doesn't matter who they are or who any individual to be saying here's what the
00:20:57.420 constitution should be the process that i think is proper and i know professor party and dennis
00:21:03.640 Kalman and others share this view is that what should happen is we focus on building the support
00:21:13.360 and having a clear majority of Albertans declare exercise their political free will of
00:21:19.980 self-determination so that Alberta can enter into become independent we have a clear and
00:21:26.040 comprehensive transition plan for facilitating that process and ensuring that life carries on
00:21:31.900 is normal and then the new government of the new country of alberta has a constitutional process
00:21:38.420 involving the people of alberta to develop a constitution for the new country of alberta
00:21:44.080 that's the right way um you know so i don't know what's being presented tonight but i want to be
00:21:49.700 absolutely clear i don't endorse it i don't think it's helpful i think it's just going to create
00:21:53.820 controversy and distraction someone's going to be upset about something that's in it someone's
00:21:58.240 going to be disappointed that something they wanted to be in it isn't in there. This isn't
00:22:02.340 the right time for this. Okay, yeah, I know I saw a post, I think it was Freedom Calendar
00:22:08.560 that put it up, and I know that Bruce Party has commented, so has Matthew Rowley. They didn't
00:22:13.780 have really much to do this at all, or if they did, probably not very much. I haven't spoken
00:22:18.540 to Dennis Kelma, and I don't speak for him, but I don't think he's, and his name's on it as well.
00:22:23.840 He probably doesn't want that either, so thanks for commenting on that. I'll be there tonight.
00:22:27.320 We'll see what Mitch has to say about this.
00:22:30.840 We've got a rally coming up, a big event coming up on the 17th of October.
00:22:36.340 This could be the rally of all rallies.
00:22:38.200 A couple of days before the vote, I think that last week is going to be very important.
00:22:43.380 You know, I did a lot of research last week when I went out to the event with Maxime Bernier
00:22:47.160 because, you know, the memory fades over the years.
00:22:49.820 I was in eastern Ontario during the 1995 referendum, and I remember it quite a bit.
00:22:54.900 We covered it a lot.
00:22:55.700 It was 15 minutes from the Quebec border, and the yes side, meaning leave Canada, lost it in the last week.
00:23:04.240 So we need to be very focused, so it's kind of exciting that this event will be happening just a couple of days before.
00:23:10.580 Yeah, and, you know, what's really important in all election campaigns, you know, in science we have the laws of physics, you know,
00:23:18.500 so gravity and and the speed of light you know measurable fix things that don't change
00:23:25.940 well in the science of politics momentum is everything and invariably whatever side party
00:23:34.960 candidate has momentum going into a vote wins so uh we're we've got a plan that i'm not going to
00:23:42.100 detail here because i know the forever canadian and the stay stay vote to stay guys will watch
00:23:48.360 this so i'm not going to share the details of our tactics but um uh it's going to be a very
00:23:54.700 important event on the 17th uh that that people come out to it's going to be three o'clock in the
00:24:01.160 afternoon on a saturday at the legislative grounds we pick three o'clock to allow time for people to
00:24:08.360 travel there there's buses already being organized from medicine hat and lethbridge and
00:24:13.760 grand prairie and uh and lloyd minster and so on so people want to have that travel by bus with
00:24:20.980 other supporters that opportunity to be there but it's really going to be important that people come
00:24:25.460 out and show their level of support we're going to have flags like never you've never seen flags
00:24:30.300 before uh so it's going to be pretty exciting and we've got an amazing master of ceremonies
00:24:37.360 None other than John Bolton has signed up for the mission again.
00:24:42.100 So we're really looking forward to this.
00:24:44.740 There are talk of other rallies.
00:24:46.780 I really think there should only be one.
00:24:48.760 We're going to exhaust the volunteers.
00:24:50.240 We've got a lot of work to do in everybody's home community.
00:24:54.640 I think we should try and restrict it strategically to one rally.
00:24:58.020 We very deliberately picked the last weekend before the vote.
00:25:02.280 The vote will be occurring on Monday, October 19th to maximize the wave of momentum.
00:25:07.980 So that's some food for thought as well.
00:25:11.260 Well, you know, you talk about food for thought, but food the weekend before, you mentioned this to me yesterday when we were setting up this interview.
00:25:17.460 It's Thanksgiving. That's going to be an important weekend for people.
00:25:20.340 You have a chance to talk to your family and maybe discuss this with them.
00:25:23.800 If you haven't brought it up, I mean, I've got neighbors who are questioning me about this.
00:25:27.880 I'm going to sit down with them prior to the event and tell them why I think we need to vote.
00:25:32.280 Option two on question 10, that'll be a huge weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, just prior to the vote.
00:25:37.920 Yeah, well, a lot of people, and someone pointed this out to me, and I think they're absolutely correct,
00:25:43.560 that a lot of people who are undecided will decide on Thanksgiving weekend.
00:25:48.120 And they will be visiting with family members and so on, and it's going to come up.
00:25:56.220 And some people are going to make their decision.
00:25:58.900 And what will be important about that rally is if they're leaning towards, yes, I'm going to vote yes to option two, because Alberta can do better, because that's really what you're saying.
00:26:10.860 I think Alberta can do better.
00:26:12.160 This relationship is completely unfair, unsustainable, and historically, structurally bad for Alberta in terms of the relationship with Ottawa.
00:26:19.960 That they see that wave, they see that excitement building going into the following Saturday, and they'll be like, yeah, I've made the right decision.
00:26:28.900 this is, this is my, this is the, the right movement for me as a voter. So that's going to
00:26:35.700 be really important. Here's a little bit of advice for me after you have your turkey dinner
00:26:39.900 and the tryptophan from the turkey starts to kick in and you're fighting over who gets the couch,
00:26:45.240 tell your family member, they can have the couch, but they have to listen
00:26:48.260 a little bit about the vote that's coming up in about a week. There you go. You know,
00:26:54.180 And speaking of which, we're behind schedule, but we're very close, the Alberta Transition Council and all of our reviewers.
00:27:07.900 So where we're at is I've been burning the midnight oil and going to bed when you're getting up and actually probably having an overlap of an hour.
00:27:17.800 Give me a call sometime.
00:27:18.800 We have all the white papers done.
00:27:21.460 And so how we have working papers on domains.
00:27:24.960 So there's a working paper, for example, on monetary policy, banking, and mortgages.
00:27:30.180 There's a working paper on immigration.
00:27:32.200 There's a working paper on rail, truck, aviation, transportation.
00:27:37.240 There's a working paper on courts.
00:27:39.080 There's, you know, I could keep going.
00:27:40.940 And so I've taken the lead on taking all of those working papers and pulling from them
00:27:47.760 the key elements and putting them into the overall transition plan. But I want to be clear
00:27:54.440 about something. This document does not describe the new constitution. It does not describe the
00:28:02.420 new Bill of Rights. It does not describe the new taxation system. It does not describe the
00:28:07.380 new immigration system, the criminal law system. Those are decisions to be made by the citizens
00:28:12.580 of Alberta after independence and during the transition period with the new government.
00:28:19.240 What this is about is ensuring continuity, ensuring that if you're on the cusp of buying a new home,
00:28:27.940 that there will be certainty about the processes that you will follow, that the banks will be clear
00:28:33.280 on that their mortgages are safe, that customers will know their deposits are safe, that the
00:28:39.720 telecommission systems will still work that airplanes will still take off and land safely
00:28:45.220 and if de Havilland wants to certify a new aircraft they'll be able to get it certified
00:28:50.120 so it's about ensuring continuity seamless transfer of the functions that the federal
00:28:55.180 government currently provides and transferring those to the new government of Alberta that's
00:28:59.660 what this transition plan is about ensuring normal orderly transition of function roles laws
00:29:06.080 from Alberta being a province to Alberta being a country.
00:29:10.740 Right, that's great.
00:29:11.480 A lot of people asking about that.
00:29:12.740 I was in Cardston a couple of weeks ago
00:29:14.500 with Angela Tabak, and somebody brought it up.
00:29:18.420 I actually called Dennis Kalma
00:29:19.800 and did an interview with him at the event we were at
00:29:22.880 so he could answer the questions for them.
00:29:24.380 It was quite interesting, but we're excited.
00:29:25.880 A lot of people want to know about that.
00:29:27.840 Something else that I've seen popping up,
00:29:29.840 register to vote.
00:29:31.220 If you don't know whether you're registered,
00:29:33.000 make sure you do that.
00:29:34.000 And I wanted to ask you this to finish it up.
00:29:35.760 What's your advice for people leading into the last couple of months of this?
00:29:40.020 What would you suggest people do in order to get this across the line and for us to win on the 19th of October?
00:29:47.320 Well, a couple of things.
00:29:48.860 One is like you asked me about earlier, that this vote on the 19th of October is really about whether you're happy with the way Canada is operating today and will operate indefinitely into the future.
00:30:05.760 Because if you vote for option one, you're saying to the carny liberals, don't change anything.
00:30:12.480 Keep telling us how to live our lives.
00:30:14.520 Keep having a two-tier justice system.
00:30:16.540 Keep having an illogical immigration system that is stressing to beyond the limits of our schools and our hospitals and our social services and our housing system.
00:30:28.400 Keep recklessly spending money, increasing debt, printing money, making your hard-earned dollars worthless.
00:30:34.020 keep increasing taxes on us, keep restricting free speech through censorship laws. That's what
00:30:40.220 you're saying to them. Status quo. But not even status quo. It's keep going. You're saying to
00:30:47.400 Ottawa, keep going on the trajectory that you're on. If it was just static, it might not be that
00:30:54.680 bad. But the deficits are increasing. Carney can't go a week without saying, oh, I just put
00:31:01.060 another three billion dollars on your credit card good luck with your monthly payments on interest
00:31:06.860 alone uh you know i'm oh i'm going to increase taxes more so uh that's one thing uh this is
00:31:14.900 really about a vote we can do better we absolutely can do better and the trade talks revealing our
00:31:19.720 strength and so on is is further proof but the other thing that it's about is we're not separating
00:31:26.120 from canada we're not physically moving alberta what we're doing is we're redefining our legal
00:31:34.160 constitutional and political arrangement with the rest of canada we're resetting the rules
00:31:40.200 we're resetting the rules where instead of 10 percent of of the the lawmakers the politicians
00:31:48.280 in ottawa that make the the laws um that determine the spending patterns determine the taxation
00:31:55.880 we elect 10 of them in an independent alberta we will elect a hundred percent of those people who
00:32:04.000 make those decisions so that if they're and they'll be in tune they'll understand you know
00:32:09.760 anybody from ontario will say oh did you get your hydro bill right they know everybody knows what
00:32:16.540 that means in ontario well we don't get hydro bills in on alberta because we have very little
00:32:22.420 hydro that's right we get power bills or electricity bills like there's an understanding
00:32:28.420 of of how things work the realities of living on the prairies and in the in the shadow of the
00:32:34.400 mountain rocky mountains so that's what this is about this is about redefining that relationship
00:32:41.200 you know bc's in a tough position because they're continentally landlocked british columbia is
00:32:49.640 they keep talking about us it's like i know bc's got the problem uh over 500 uh or i can't remember
00:32:56.600 the statistic but a huge amount of their economy ships through alberta on rail and truck and uh
00:33:05.720 they're absolutely dependent upon our oil uh to supply the burnaby refinery to operate the lower
00:33:12.000 mainland ontario and quebec are absolutely dependent upon line nine and five and others
00:33:18.020 to operate their economies. If those lines are curtailed, like Peter Loughey did in the 1980s
00:33:24.500 to get the constitutional amendment, their economies come to a screeching halt. It'll
00:33:29.200 make this trade situation look like a cakewalk. So we have tremendous leverage. And we can say,
00:33:35.080 look, we're going to be absolutely fair with you guys. But it's got to go two ways. You've got to
00:33:39.520 be fair with us too. So we'll be able to have mobility and transportation agreements and trade
00:33:44.320 agreements but we'll be able to negotiate them from a position of strength we have no leverage
00:33:49.680 no leverage and you've seen the very weak agreements that premier smith has has been
00:33:55.980 able to you know has agreed to that are proof of that by voting yes we have leverage by moving
00:34:02.740 towards independence we can reset our relationship with the rest of canada we can be the best
00:34:08.540 neighbor to the rest of canada we can be the best friend to the rest of canada but we can
00:34:13.840 establish a relationship of respect and mutual benefit, which we don't have today.
00:34:20.060 You know, I think the other side, and it could be a number of different political parties and
00:34:27.140 people are thinking they're going to wear us down. You know, we'll push this out to a referendum in
00:34:33.620 October. And then if we win that, we've got to keep going. I don't see our people getting weary
00:34:38.700 at all. We're more determined. And that's something that, you know, I thought maybe we
00:34:43.560 should make sure that everybody stays focused. But I think we're pretty focused here. I think
00:34:46.760 everybody is really bearing down and working even harder to get us to the finish line here. So
00:34:52.380 I'm really excited about the 19th. I'm going to win this thing. And I think we are. Yeah. Yeah.
00:34:58.920 And, you know, we're going to have to work even harder. I was teasing the, so there's an inner,
00:35:07.720 uh i call them seal team six so there's six of us at the top of um at the top of uh let alberta
00:35:17.460 decide and we have weekly call scheduled calls and we deal with stuff on an ad hoc basis and
00:35:22.360 we have strategy sessions and it's full on and um a lot of things happened earlier this week and we
00:35:29.060 managed to deal with all of them and keep everything going forward and getting improving
00:35:33.120 things and i teased the group and i said you've never asked me why i call you guys seal team six
00:35:38.980 and someone said why and i said well are you familiar with this the navy seals motto and
00:35:43.900 someone said no i said the easiest day was yesterday yeah that's our approach we're we go
00:35:51.060 into that eyes wide open we're energized uh we haven't taken any time off in the summer lull
00:35:57.340 We've been planning, preparing, building so that we can really hit the ground running hard.
00:36:03.920 And speaking of which, donations have been phenomenal, but we have ambitious plans to win this, sophisticated plans.
00:36:12.420 You're seeing some of the fruits of our labor popping up and appearing in other places.
00:36:18.200 So if you can, please go to letalbertadecide.com, letalbertadecide.com and donate.
00:36:26.260 Any little amount helps.
00:36:27.980 Any large amount helps.
00:36:29.940 We're against unbelievable forces.
00:36:32.420 We know the CASIC's not playing by the rules.
00:36:34.440 We have no idea how much money the federal government, foreign governments, corporations,
00:36:40.640 unions, whoever are dumping in there will never know.
00:36:43.640 But please consider donating.
00:36:46.100 Yeah.
00:36:46.380 Thanks very much, Keith.
00:36:47.720 And yeah, we don't know. I mean, we've got political parties coming in here all fighting
00:36:52.080 against us. They've got unlimited amount of money really to fight. And this is the biggest thing to
00:36:58.840 happen in my lifetime when it comes to politics. And you can look at federal elections. There's
00:37:02.880 nothing bigger than this. Absolutely. It's a huge convergence of historical events that have come
00:37:09.640 together. You know, remember, we're going to have the Quebec referendum or election of likely a
00:37:15.580 separatist party on october 5th yeah we're going to have the full raging five alarm fire
00:37:21.860 of the trade relation collapse with the united states that's going to more severely impact
00:37:27.740 ontario and quebec but it's okay because carney's you know he's on it in tuscany italy sipping his
00:37:34.660 wine eating grapes you know he's got this he really cares about canadians um and uh it's a
00:37:42.620 very, very dynamic time. So, uh, we absolutely can win this.
00:37:47.460 Pete, thanks very much. Uh, you know, I'll, I'll probably end the, um,
00:37:51.400 the interview with Arrivederci perhaps today.
00:37:54.640 Oh, I'm going to be out at, uh, Tanya and I are going to be out at the, uh,
00:37:58.780 uh, the, uh, independence volunteer appreciation event at Mir
00:38:03.160 Whistle Stop Cafe, uh, on Saturday afternoon as well.
00:38:06.920 I've got the graphic on the screen. That's the last thing I was going to ask you,
00:38:09.660 but I'll be there as well. I'm emceeing that event. It's going to be music.
00:38:12.620 Yeah, it's going to be music. It's not really about politics. Long on fun, short on speeches. That's the way it's going to be. But I hope you can be in Mirror as well. By the way, Let's Talk Alberta is sponsoring it. Let Alberta Decide, Alberta Women for Independence, Pathway Independence, which is Corey's. It's a free event because of you guys. So thanks very much for that. And of course, Jason Levine. You can check out more information at his website, thelevineshow.com. Jason's the one putting this thing on.
00:38:40.280 He had Ben Crane and Lindsay on this morning, and they were great on his show.
00:38:45.380 But I'll see you there on Saturday.
00:38:46.640 Looking forward to that.
00:38:47.440 I hope everybody shows up.
00:38:48.680 It should be epic.
00:38:49.580 Weather is looking good as well.
00:38:51.240 The last time you were out there, you got rained on a little bit.
00:38:53.560 I think it's supposed to be a good day.
00:38:55.260 So that's awesome.
00:38:56.280 I will see you and Tanya there and everybody else as well.
00:38:58.920 Thanks, Keith, so much.
00:39:00.020 I appreciate this.
00:39:01.220 I think we've got some good clips here.
00:39:02.400 We'll have to get in touch with Rise of Alberta.
00:39:04.120 The Tuscany clip will be burning up the internet during this afternoon.
00:39:08.520 That was great.
00:39:09.920 We'll talk to you soon.
00:39:11.540 Thanks so much.
00:39:12.740 Thanks, John.
00:39:13.300 Appreciate it.
00:39:14.120 Keith Wilson, let Alberta decide.
