00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel. It is Saturday, April the 11th. I hope you're
00:00:07.860 having a great start your Saturday morning and your weekend as well. I tip the big blue
00:00:12.880 mug of coffee to you. Thank you so much for being here. And this is all about the Alberta
00:00:18.200 independence movement this morning. I know a lot of you are angry today. You're waking
00:00:24.920 up angry? I'm telling you right now, don't feel that way. You heard yesterday about this.
00:00:32.380 This is Alberta First Nations win initial stay in separatism challenge,
00:00:37.540 temporarily blocking referendum petition certification. And you're angry about this.
00:00:42.120 I understand your feelings. You're going to hear lots of people
00:00:45.080 spitting fire today. And you probably have already heard people doing that.
00:00:50.620 and I'm suggesting to you, calm down, relax. I don't feel as bad about this as I did before I
00:00:57.340 went to bed last night. And I'm going to use the words of the people in the independence movement
00:01:02.360 to calm you down this morning. All of this kind of stuff has been anticipated and there is a plan
00:01:08.840 going forward. You're going to hear the words tyranny of the minority. I understand that. We're
00:01:13.240 talking about a group of people that represents less than 1% of the Alberta population holding
00:01:18.540 us up. They have 1.3% of the land mass, which is holding us up, but calm down. I always remember
00:01:26.000 when I was younger. I'm not sure where I remember seeing this sign. It might've been on a wall in
00:01:32.360 my basement. My dad had a bar almost 50 years ago downstairs, but the words that come to mind this
00:01:38.420 morning, when angry count to 10, when very angry count to 100. And you know, I like quotes.
00:01:45.700 this is a quote from thomas jefferson and what it says to you is cool down a little bit cool down
00:01:53.860 i almost ran to the camera five six hours ago to do something on this but i cooled down i woke up
00:02:00.180 feeling a little bit better about this this morning i did get an email last night from
00:02:04.500 stay free alberta mitch sylvester i'm sure will be talking to us today there's an emergency meeting
00:02:09.880 at six o'clock tonight, which I intend to be on to find out how we move forward. But folks,
00:02:15.280 here's the thing. You need to understand the signature campaign has not been stopped.
00:02:20.460 That's what we thought this was going to be about, but it changed. And somebody who's very
00:02:24.960 prominent with the independence movement talked about this just yesterday. And there is a plan
00:02:31.000 moving forward. I can assure you these signatures will be counted in one way or another. Here's what
00:02:38.680 Mitch said about sending a message. And it's more important than ever that we send a message
00:02:44.460 and we keep getting signatures. A lot of them. When I organized that rally on the steps of the
00:02:51.020 legislature, there's two messages that you could send. If a thousand people show up, you send a
00:02:56.740 message. If 17,000 people show up, you send another message. If we get 179,000 signatures,
00:03:02.720 we send a message. If we get 360,000 signatures, we send another message.
00:03:07.060 So I just want to understand, it's up to us what message we want to send.
00:03:11.160 And we're working very hard and our people are, you know, working, going door to door,
00:03:15.820 doing whatever's required now to get these signatures.
00:03:18.540 Mitch is talking about sending a message.
00:03:20.620 The message I think he's going to send tonight is get more signatures.
00:03:24.200 Send a message because these signatures are going to be counted.
00:03:28.580 When I was watching the court case this week, I am not a lawyer,
00:03:31.820 but it came to my mind this week that this court case wasn't about stopping the signatures it was
00:03:38.100 about stopping the referendum but other people who are lawyers are watching this and they anticipated
00:03:43.840 this and here's what Keith Wilson said yesterday and what's going to happen with these signatures
00:03:50.860 even though the CEO can't count them right now. The good news for the canvassers out there and
00:03:56.200 people wanting to sign the petition is that it's become clear from the court hearings that the judge
00:04:04.240 is not going to issue a petition an injunction she's not going to issue an injunction stopping
00:04:09.680 the collection of signatures if she does issue an injunction it will be against the chief electoral
00:04:16.320 officer and it will will stop him from counting the signatures now of course mitch sylvester's
00:04:23.680 from Stay Free Alberta has said that their plan is and has been to prior to submitting those
00:04:29.540 signatures to the chief electoral officer to have an accounting firm do an official review and an
00:04:35.140 official count so that the world and the premier and others can know what the official number is
00:04:41.160 even before it goes to Elections Alberta. This kind of thing was anticipated. The signatures
00:04:48.260 are going to be counted, the more signatures we have, the bigger the message like Mitch talked
00:04:54.080 about. That which does not kill us only makes us stronger. You've seen what's happened over the
00:04:59.700 last week. Another person crosses the aisle in the House of Commons over to the Liberals
00:05:04.000 to give them their majority. More people signed the petition. We've got these chiefs in court
00:05:09.160 trying to stop this process. A lot of Indigenous people, they want to change their signing the 0.94
00:05:14.500 petition. What do you think is going to happen today after this ruling yesterday? I talked to
00:05:18.760 Mitch about this, about Indigenous people, and this is what he had to say. I've been on X and
00:05:23.780 I've seen a lot of Indigenous people recently posting that they're in favor of Alberta
00:05:28.420 independence. And I said in the video, I said, it's time maybe for these people to come forward.
00:05:34.200 We want to hear their voices. We want to see their faces. And what would you say to the people
00:05:39.900 in this province who think they can have a better life? They're Indigenous and they think 1.00
00:05:43.920 independent Alberta. What would you suggest they do to try to help out with this cause?
00:05:48.540 Sign a petition and vote. Yeah. And do like we do. Start participating in your democracy,
00:05:57.020 you know, and it could start right on the reserve or with your leaders.
00:06:01.860 Mitch says to the Indigenous people, participate in democracy, get out and sign the petition.
00:06:07.220 I know some Indigenous people are afraid to do it. They're afraid of any backlash. But I've got
00:06:13.660 a proposal for you. You know, I just said in that clip you just saw when I was talking to Mitch,
00:06:17.920 we need to hear your voices. We need to see your faces. So hang on to the end. I have a proposal
00:06:23.100 for you. What you need to understand here, folks, why I'm not feeling so depressed about this is
00:06:28.440 because Mitch and Jeff and all the people in the independence movement, they're three or four
00:06:33.520 steps down the road on this. I asked Mitch last year if he had a plan, if we got held up when it
00:06:38.520 came to the referendum a question oh yeah we've got a plan and I asked him about that earlier in
00:06:44.000 March and this is what he had to say and we understood this going in that this was not going
00:06:48.140 to be easy we understood that we're going to face roseblocks and you know all we have to do is make
00:06:52.600 sure that we adjust and make sure we come out of this uh with advantage you have a plan down the
00:06:57.720 road uh for the worst case scenario I'm assuming of course okay of course yeah no I'm not going to
00:07:04.160 ask you what it is because they could tell me anyway but yeah yeah well you know what the thing
00:07:08.260 is is that the we have a plan but you understand how fast this stuff could change like if if
00:07:16.020 circumstances change we'll adapt we'll adapt things happen fast and if if you're really
00:07:21.780 depressed this saturday morning and this is ruining your weekend you ain't seen nothing yet
00:07:26.580 because if we get to the next point where we have a question on a referendum for alberta to leave
00:07:33.420 they are going to throw everything they can at us. And we're likely to be in court again. I asked
00:07:39.200 Jeff Rath about this just a little over a week ago. This is just people signing a petition.
00:07:44.460 If we actually get the question, will this kind of thing pop up again? Because we're now talking
00:07:50.080 about a vote on leaving. And that's what I get concerned about. And I'm not even getting to the
00:07:55.380 Clarity Act, which I read. People can read it. It's not very long. Doesn't seem all that clear
00:08:01.020 to me what happens in the next process i don't know whether you want to get ahead of this
00:08:05.180 but could this happen again could we be stuck in court fighting over this question or will
00:08:09.740 it be the province that's taken to court oh i'm i'm i'm convinced that this is just going to be
00:08:14.700 an ongoing irritant through the entire you know the entire process right you know it's uh uh you
00:08:21.740 know every time there's an inflection point you know there's a potential for somebody to file a
00:08:27.020 you know a you know a silly case in front of the court that we're then going to have to deal with
00:08:32.380 jeff said in that interview he thought something like this could happen considering the subject
00:08:37.820 matter and the people that were taking us to court but here's the thing we thought we would
00:08:43.900 have to stop collecting signatures and they haven't done that to us so that's a win on our side
00:08:49.500 i think the message mitch is going to send tonight will be a message of hope
00:08:52.780 nope, we anticipated this kind of thing. It's a temporary setback, but keep getting signatures.
00:08:59.520 Keep going out and getting signatures. Send a message with the numbers. We've got the signatures.
00:09:05.040 We can count them. We can announce them to the world. We can still do that,
00:09:10.300 even if the chief electoral officer can't count them right now. Now, to the indigenous people out 1.00
00:09:15.020 there that want Alberta independence, to those people that have signed, thank you. To those
00:09:22.040 who are afraid to sign, we're with you. We support you. Would you be willing? I'm asking a question
00:09:29.040 here. Would you be willing to stand arm in arm with all of us, everybody in the independence
00:09:34.160 movement, get your voices out there, get your faces out there to say to the chiefs, we're done.
00:09:40.440 We've had enough. We want change. Are you willing to do that? Can we meet in a public place with you,
00:09:46.680 with thousands of you who want Alberta independence? That's the question I'm asking of you.
00:09:51.240 I'd be happy to help organize something like that in the future.
00:09:56.700 Get in touch with us.
00:09:58.180 Get in touch with Stay Free Alberta.
00:10:00.300 That can happen.
00:10:01.960 Now, I want to end on a high note here, on a positive note.
00:10:06.540 Yeah, I'm a little bit depressed about what happened yesterday,
00:10:09.040 but I don't feel so bad about this because I trust in Mitch Sylvester
00:10:12.360 and the people who are leading our movement.
00:10:14.740 But here's what I had to say to Mitch near the end of the interview I did with him back in March.
00:10:20.140 You know, I remember back at the legislature, October the 25th, I believe it was.
00:10:26.260 It was.
00:10:26.940 And I remember you speaking.
00:10:28.780 And there were two words you used there that are becoming more prevalent now.
00:10:31.960 It's starting to grow.
00:10:32.860 You used it in your video the other day.
00:10:34.940 And I think we all should start using it and start tagging everything when we're on Facebook and X.
00:10:39.460 What are the words, Mitch?
00:10:40.840 Let's go.
00:10:41.560 Let's go.
00:10:42.200 We need to use that more often.
00:10:43.400 I think that, you know, it's funny.
00:10:44.540 It's taken a while, but you were on to something there.
00:10:47.120 We need to, let's go, folks.
00:10:48.440 Let's sign that petition.
00:10:49.380 keep working well yeah you know that comes from my hockey roots and let's go means we're not going
00:10:54.920 to put up with your nonsense we're not going to put up with your intimidation so we're going to
00:10:59.360 stand here and fight you and that's what let's go means so i'm all about it let's go i want a hat
00:11:05.940 that says let's go somebody come up with a hat that says let's go i'll be the first in line to
00:11:12.260 buy one that which does not kill us only makes us stronger my friends in independence stay strong
00:11:21.460 if you like this video give it a thumbs up subscribe to the channel ring the bell for
00:11:25.300 notifications i'll see you in the next one uh you know what that's kind of a hockey thing right i'm
00:11:31.940 a hockey player i'm going to tell you a little thing about hockey players there's a challenge
00:11:37.380 Once that goes on, I don't know if you're aware of it,
00:11:40.240 but I'm aware of it, sometimes guys will sidle up to you
00:11:44.240 and say, come on, let's go.
00:11:48.160 Do you wanna go?
00:11:50.060 So at that moment, you either do or you don't.
00:11:55.140 And if you don't, that guy probably owns you
00:11:59.280 and you're a little intimidated,
00:12:01.180 and then once you get intimidated,
00:12:02.820 it stops everything from working.
00:12:05.020 So here's what I'm gonna ask you.
00:12:06.740 Let's change that up.
00:12:09.020 Cause the answer to come on, let's go is let's go.
00:12:15.060 Right?
00:12:17.540 So I'm gonna ask you as a group,
00:12:21.180 you know, there's a double meaning there.
00:12:24.280 Come on, let's go.
