00:00:42.120 I understand your feelings. You're going to hear lots of people

00:00:45.080 spitting fire today. And you probably have already heard people doing that.

00:00:50.620 and I'm suggesting to you, calm down, relax. I don't feel as bad about this as I did before I

00:00:57.340 went to bed last night. And I'm going to use the words of the people in the independence movement

00:01:02.360 to calm you down this morning. All of this kind of stuff has been anticipated and there is a plan

00:01:08.840 going forward. You're going to hear the words tyranny of the minority. I understand that. We're

00:01:13.240 talking about a group of people that represents less than 1% of the Alberta population holding

00:01:18.540 us up. They have 1.3% of the land mass, which is holding us up, but calm down. I always remember

00:01:26.000 when I was younger. I'm not sure where I remember seeing this sign. It might've been on a wall in

00:01:32.360 my basement. My dad had a bar almost 50 years ago downstairs, but the words that come to mind this

00:01:38.420 morning, when angry count to 10, when very angry count to 100. And you know, I like quotes.

00:02:09.880 at six o'clock tonight, which I intend to be on to find out how we move forward. But folks,

00:02:15.280 here's the thing. You need to understand the signature campaign has not been stopped.

00:02:20.460 That's what we thought this was going to be about, but it changed. And somebody who's very

00:02:24.960 prominent with the independence movement talked about this just yesterday. And there is a plan

00:02:31.000 moving forward. I can assure you these signatures will be counted in one way or another. Here's what

00:02:38.680 Mitch said about sending a message. And it's more important than ever that we send a message

00:02:44.460 and we keep getting signatures. A lot of them. When I organized that rally on the steps of the

00:02:51.020 legislature, there's two messages that you could send. If a thousand people show up, you send a

00:02:56.740 message. If 17,000 people show up, you send another message. If we get 179,000 signatures,

00:03:02.720 we send a message. If we get 360,000 signatures, we send another message.

00:03:07.060 So I just want to understand, it's up to us what message we want to send.

00:03:11.160 And we're working very hard and our people are, you know, working, going door to door,

00:03:15.820 doing whatever's required now to get these signatures.

00:03:28.580 When I was watching the court case this week, I am not a lawyer,

00:03:31.820 but it came to my mind this week that this court case wasn't about stopping the signatures it was

00:03:38.100 about stopping the referendum but other people who are lawyers are watching this and they anticipated

00:03:43.840 this and here's what Keith Wilson said yesterday and what's going to happen with these signatures

00:03:50.860 even though the CEO can't count them right now. The good news for the canvassers out there and

00:03:56.200 people wanting to sign the petition is that it's become clear from the court hearings that the judge

00:04:04.240 is not going to issue a petition an injunction she's not going to issue an injunction stopping

00:04:09.680 the collection of signatures if she does issue an injunction it will be against the chief electoral

00:04:16.320 officer and it will will stop him from counting the signatures now of course mitch sylvester's

00:04:23.680 from Stay Free Alberta has said that their plan is and has been to prior to submitting those

00:04:29.540 signatures to the chief electoral officer to have an accounting firm do an official review and an

00:04:35.140 official count so that the world and the premier and others can know what the official number is

00:04:41.160 even before it goes to Elections Alberta. This kind of thing was anticipated. The signatures

00:04:48.260 are going to be counted, the more signatures we have, the bigger the message like Mitch talked

00:04:54.080 about. That which does not kill us only makes us stronger. You've seen what's happened over the

00:04:59.700 last week. Another person crosses the aisle in the House of Commons over to the Liberals

00:05:04.000 to give them their majority. More people signed the petition. We've got these chiefs in court

00:05:09.160 trying to stop this process. A lot of Indigenous people, they want to change their signing the 0.94

00:05:14.500 petition. What do you think is going to happen today after this ruling yesterday? I talked to

00:05:18.760 Mitch about this, about Indigenous people, and this is what he had to say. I've been on X and

00:05:23.780 I've seen a lot of Indigenous people recently posting that they're in favor of Alberta

00:05:28.420 independence. And I said in the video, I said, it's time maybe for these people to come forward.

00:05:34.200 We want to hear their voices. We want to see their faces. And what would you say to the people

00:05:39.900 in this province who think they can have a better life? They're Indigenous and they think 1.00

00:05:43.920 independent Alberta. What would you suggest they do to try to help out with this cause?

00:05:48.540 Sign a petition and vote. Yeah. And do like we do. Start participating in your democracy,

00:05:57.020 you know, and it could start right on the reserve or with your leaders.

00:06:01.860 Mitch says to the Indigenous people, participate in democracy, get out and sign the petition.

00:06:07.220 I know some Indigenous people are afraid to do it. They're afraid of any backlash. But I've got

00:06:13.660 a proposal for you. You know, I just said in that clip you just saw when I was talking to Mitch,

00:06:23.100 for you. What you need to understand here, folks, why I'm not feeling so depressed about this is

00:06:28.440 because Mitch and Jeff and all the people in the independence movement, they're three or four

00:06:33.520 steps down the road on this. I asked Mitch last year if he had a plan, if we got held up when it

00:06:38.520 came to the referendum a question oh yeah we've got a plan and I asked him about that earlier in

00:06:44.000 March and this is what he had to say and we understood this going in that this was not going

00:06:48.140 to be easy we understood that we're going to face roseblocks and you know all we have to do is make

00:06:52.600 sure that we adjust and make sure we come out of this uh with advantage you have a plan down the

00:06:57.720 road uh for the worst case scenario I'm assuming of course okay of course yeah no I'm not going to

00:07:04.160 ask you what it is because they could tell me anyway but yeah yeah well you know what the thing

00:07:08.260 is is that the we have a plan but you understand how fast this stuff could change like if if

00:07:16.020 circumstances change we'll adapt we'll adapt things happen fast and if if you're really

00:07:26.580 because if we get to the next point where we have a question on a referendum for alberta to leave

00:07:33.420 they are going to throw everything they can at us. And we're likely to be in court again. I asked

00:07:44.460 If we actually get the question, will this kind of thing pop up again? Because we're now talking

00:07:50.080 about a vote on leaving. And that's what I get concerned about. And I'm not even getting to the

00:07:55.380 Clarity Act, which I read. People can read it. It's not very long. Doesn't seem all that clear

00:08:01.020 to me what happens in the next process i don't know whether you want to get ahead of this

00:08:05.180 but could this happen again could we be stuck in court fighting over this question or will

00:08:09.740 it be the province that's taken to court oh i'm i'm i'm convinced that this is just going to be

00:08:14.700 an ongoing irritant through the entire you know the entire process right you know it's uh uh you

00:08:21.740 know every time there's an inflection point you know there's a potential for somebody to file a

00:08:27.020 you know a you know a silly case in front of the court that we're then going to have to deal with

00:08:37.820 matter and the people that were taking us to court but here's the thing we thought we would

00:08:43.900 have to stop collecting signatures and they haven't done that to us so that's a win on our side

00:08:52.780 nope, we anticipated this kind of thing. It's a temporary setback, but keep getting signatures.
