Trump Tariffs Day is upon us, and I'm here to talk about it. I also talk about how Mark Carney doesn't seem to understand what he's actually saying, and how he's not a communicator.
00:00:00.080Hi, it's John, and welcome to the channel, 8.42 a.m. on Trump Tariff Day, Saturday, February the 1st.
00:00:08.180And I'm grinning, but it's sad that this day has come.
00:00:12.820How we're going to get out of it is going to be very interesting over the next little while.
00:00:16.800I've got the big blue mug of coffee today, lots of talk about Trump tariffs today.
00:00:20.540I actually did a whole video on this. I might release it later today. I don't know.
00:00:24.880But I wanted to talk about something that's been in the back of my mind over the last few days.
00:00:29.140Now, for those of you who don't know me, I'm a radio broadcaster.
00:00:32.980I was, I guess I was a radio broadcaster, 30 to 35 years, semi-retired now.
00:00:38.600And something I learned from the time I went to school at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario in the mid-80s,
00:00:43.800right up until the time I retired from radio, was be concise.
00:00:48.080I had teachers, I had news directors, sports directors, program directors.
00:00:52.380John, time is money, be concise, say what you need to say in as few words as possible.
00:00:56.360And people, they can do that. You can understand, you believe, and you get the feeling that what they're saying is something they believe in as well.
00:01:06.040Now, over the years, I became a big fan and an admirer of Rush Limbaugh.
00:01:10.240And for those people who don't know, Rush Limbaugh was a huge broadcaster.
00:01:13.960He made the words appointment listening an actual thing.
00:01:16.960People used to set their alarms to listen to Rush.
00:01:19.900I used to tune in at noon when I was out east, and when I came out here into Alberta, I'd tune in at 10 o'clock in the morning.
00:01:26.800And every time I heard, my city was gone by the pretenders.
00:01:29.740And still to this day, I think of Rush Limbaugh.
00:01:32.040Limbaugh was a giant, completely changed talk radio the way we know it.
00:01:35.700He said something on the radio one day that I never forgot.
00:01:39.080And it was a quote from William Shakespeare.
00:01:44.140And that, in those few words, eloquent words from Shakespeare, is what all those people over the years in broadcasting tried to convey to me.
