and here in alberta and friends over here last night and we were enjoying some fantastic food

we played a whole lot of games last night on our kitchen table and had a lot of laughs and it was

really exciting you know what was really nice yesterday is we had a young lady in our home

who had never celebrated christmas um never in her whole life her religion didn't allow it she

stepped aside from her religion and she was here with us last night and just had an amazing time

but we had this young lady here last night it was so exciting and she's going to be sitting around

this christmas tree our little pencil tree behind me apparently this is the latest thing folks

we just took this out of the box earlier uh well just about a month ago i put this tree up

my wife had bought it just after christmas last year i'd never seen it and it started to grow on me

but this young lady is going to be with us today and she's going to be opening some presents my wife

went out and bought her some christmas presents so it's going to be so fun to see what happens when

she opens up her christmas gifts but that's not what christmas is about i think it's about friends

family and faith as well haven't we heard those words a lot this year something that we've heard

important is this uh at this time of year and as i've gotten older you know you start to lose people

family members i think about my mom and dad a lot at this time of year i was playing christmas music

last night and a number of songs came on that made me think of when i was a kid in sarnia ontario on

divine street sitting in my mom and dad's living room they had this great big piece of furniture that

was their stereo and some of you may remember it was a piece of furniture it was about this long

it stood about three feet high had speakers in the front and a record changer in it with a radio

and they had a collection of christmas albums and a number of those songs came on last night

and it put me back in that place again i can still see my mom and dad's front window

and that snow falling down and i can still see my dad carving i think what was the 30th christmas turkey

and he passed away a few years ago but i can still see him standing in the dining room at the old house

carving up that turkey and i remember when he handed me the knife for the first time so i could

carve my first christmas turkey and we've lost other people in our family as well that's what i think of

and something else i was thinking of when i was thinking of this young girl

being here for the first christmas i think about people right now who have a hard time this time of

year because they have lost somebody close to them and christmas just brings back unfortunately bad

it is a very difficult time of the year for some people reach out to them reach out tell them that

they're loved or maybe invite them to your home to be part of your christmas and try to make them

in calgary we've been very lucky to have friends here who have never celebrated christmas or who

were alone on christmas and to have them sit down to a turkey dinner which our young lady i spoke

about earlier is going to do for the very first time today it's a wonderful feeling and you can feel
