Summary

The end of the year is fast approaching and it's time to reflect on the year we've had so far. How have we managed to run a country when we've only had 73 days of government left in the year? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel. It is 4.31 a.m. Monday, December the 8th. I hope
00:00:08.620 you're having a great start to your Monday morning. Hope you had a good weekend as well.
00:00:12.960 Not too long before Christmas, I've got my big blue mug of coffee. Merry Christmas to
00:00:18.000 you today. And I woke up this morning thinking it's been an exhausting year. I think you'll
00:00:24.620 agree. It's been a very interesting year politically. Probably the most interesting
00:00:29.820 one in my lifetime. I mean, there have been other things, but this year has been really
00:00:33.200 something. And I started thinking this morning that I'm glad we're coming to the end of the
00:00:38.920 year because soon government won't be sitting over a Christmas break. They'll be off for
00:00:42.700 probably a month. And that's good. But they've only sat, I think, 73 days or something like
00:00:50.140 that the whole year. How can you run a country when you've only had about 73 days of government?
00:00:56.140 Some people would say it's a good thing as well. Less government is good, right? But last
00:01:01.160 year, I think government took Christmas break around the 19th. So that would be, you know,
00:01:06.980 about 11 days from now. I thought they'd go at least that long this year because there's
00:01:11.880 been so few sitting days in the House of Commons. And I looked at the sitting schedule and there's
00:01:16.220 only four days left. They're taking an earlier break for Christmas this year, which is just
00:01:21.640 unbelievable. But I thought this morning I would look back on just a few of the things and how we're
00:01:28.420 doing with the government we've got so far. And I was going to look at a couple of things. I was
00:01:33.240 going to look at cutting down on government. Government grew so much when it came to the Trudeau
00:01:39.860 years. Over those 10 years, I think it was 30 to 40 percent more people working for the federal
00:01:43.600 government. So I thought I'd look at that. I thought I'd look at housing because we know that
00:01:47.720 we have too few homes for too many people, which drives up cost. Big issue during the elections.
00:01:53.780 How are we doing on that so far? Okay. I went out the other day to Costco to buy cream and I brought
00:02:00.140 cream onto this channel a number of times saying it just drives me crazy. It's the way I judge food
00:02:05.320 prices. Cream. I used to get it for less than $2 a liter. It's more than $4 a liter at Walmart. And
00:02:11.960 generally I could go into Costco and get it for $2.85, $2.90 a liter. It's now up to $3.15. So
00:02:18.780 how are grocery prices doing? When it comes to immigration, this one leads back to the housing
00:02:24.340 thing. We've got too many people coming into the country, which drives up housing prices because
00:02:28.200 we have too few houses. And then there's the biggie at the end. How are we doing when it comes to
00:02:33.160 negotiations with Donald Trump? So let's start off with the very first one here. And there was this
00:02:40.340 story the other day in the National Post. Carney's plan to reduce civil service will cost $1.5 billion
00:02:46.120 to cut payroll by just $82 million. Like this is insane. This is government at its worst, folks.
00:02:54.840 Rather than conducting mass layoffs of the Canadian civil service, the Carney government is resurrecting
00:02:59.300 a 1990 strategy of reducing the public service by paying them handsomely to leave. Now they're saying
00:03:05.340 that Carney's paying them. You're paying them. This is your money. Remember that. However, despite
00:03:10.380 costing $1.5 billion, it will deliver a federal payroll that will only be about $82 million cheaper
00:03:16.460 per year. As such, it could presumably be up to 18 years until the program breaks even. Now I'm going
00:03:22.500 to use a smattering of Polyev, actually a helpful heaping of Polyev during this video because he's been
00:03:27.940 very good on all of these things. Okay. Here's Polyev on X on December 6, just a couple of days ago.
00:03:32.920 Another masterstroke from the banker who can't budget, spending $1.5 billion to save $82 million.
00:03:39.440 No wonder his deficit is twice the size of Trudeau's. And he's got a link to the story I just told you about.
00:03:45.660 Now when it comes to housing, Carney is now in the housing business. Well, you're in the housing business.
00:03:52.160 The Canadian government is now building houses again. Instead of getting out of the way, making it easier
00:03:56.480 to build houses, the government is all about houses. Carney put out a slick video a while ago about the new
00:04:01.820 houses the government has that all of the housing companies can choose from. You're seeing a
00:04:06.940 smattering of those on the screen right now. A lot of them look like shipping containers stacked on top
00:04:13.080 of each other, but we'll leave it there. And of course, we remember Mark Carney coming out and
00:04:19.420 announcing his housing in front of a fake home. Now this is Stephen Bonk, MP, Suri Moose Mountain,
00:04:26.700 conservative, talking about this story. And then we'll have more from Pierre Polyev on this issue
00:04:31.440 as well, and how many houses the government is actually building. Do you remember the Prime
00:04:36.440 Minister's launch of Build Canada Homes, the program where he's spending $13 billion to build 4,000 homes?
00:04:43.040 And the quick math on that is $3.25 million per home. That's not exactly cheap. Prime Minister Carney
00:04:49.020 had a launch of this program in Nepean. Honey, I'm home.
00:04:51.900 And something was up because Barbara Ball, the conservative candidate in that area,
00:04:56.000 was there. And the next day, all the construction was gone.
00:05:00.520 Hey Nepean, I am at the location of Prime Minister Carney's housing announcement a few days ago.
00:05:06.760 And there is nothing here. So all those buildings were brought in just for the photo op.
00:05:15.060 Showing off his construction chops has been a regular photo op for Mark Carney.
00:05:19.400 Come on, guys.
00:05:21.060 Accompanied by bold promises.
00:05:23.160 We will build at a pace not seen since the Second World War.
00:05:27.560 But a new report from the Interim Parliamentary Budget Officer says the Liberals are nowhere on track
00:05:32.360 to meet the Prime Minister's lofty goals.
00:05:34.760 We estimate about 26,000 units will be created over the next five years.
00:05:40.240 The Liberals, who have previously sparred with the PBO, dispute the numbers,
00:05:44.340 saying their spending will help build 86,000 units.
00:05:46.860 I think this is just the beginning and we're going to deliver a ton of affordable housing
00:05:50.280 and we're going to leverage a lot of investment from across Canada to get that done.
00:05:54.320 The Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
00:05:55.780 The report, political ammunition for the Conservatives.
00:05:58.640 Why won't he listen to us and stop building bureaucracy so that we can start building homes?
00:06:04.420 Numbers the Liberals don't dispute.
00:06:06.320 A 56% cut in federal housing funding from 2025 to 2029,
00:06:10.760 with multiple current programs expiring without replacement.
00:06:13.700 That has leading housing experts saying Kearney's goal of building half a million houses annually won't be met.
00:06:18.940 The last two years of the Trudeau government were more ambitious on housing
00:06:24.600 than what we've seen from the Kearney government.
00:06:27.020 So far, we're not doing very good when it comes to cutting the public service and building houses.
00:06:31.680 But how are we doing when it comes to the thing that really affects you every week?
00:06:37.220 Every time you go into the cupboard, this is something that you notice.
00:06:40.460 And as you go out for Christmas and the holidays, you're having a lot of friends over.
00:06:45.240 It's going to be expensive and a lot more expensive than it was even last year.
00:06:48.800 Grocery prices are high.
00:06:50.040 I mentioned cream at the beginning of this.
00:06:51.580 It was an issue during the election campaign.
00:06:53.940 Cost of living is far too high in this country.
00:06:56.760 The thing that really gets you is when you go to the grocery store and you buy just a few items
00:07:01.080 and you look into the basket and there's hardly anything there,
00:07:04.780 but it costs so much money to buy things.
00:07:07.720 Pierre Polyev's been on top of this.
00:07:10.540 Here's a slick video from him and the Conservatives on Mark Carney
00:07:13.800 and his big promise about bringing grocery prices down.
00:07:17.280 Mark Carney promised when he took office.
00:07:19.800 Canadians will hold account by their experience at the grocery store.
00:07:23.100 Well, the judgment is in.
00:07:24.160 A new report this morning says food prices are expected to take up a much bigger share
00:07:29.320 of your household budget next year.
00:07:31.240 Projecting an average family of four will pay nearly $1,000 more for food in 2026 compared to this year.
00:07:38.480 This is outrageous.
00:07:39.700 It's the direct result of liberal taxes, liberal industrial carbon tax and farm equipment,
00:07:45.060 the new liberal food packaging tax, which restricts plastic use.
00:07:49.500 It's getting harder all the time.
00:07:50.840 I usually try to aim for as many sales as I can.
00:07:53.520 Enough is enough.
00:07:54.460 Let's get rid of all the hidden liberal taxes so the Canadians can afford food again.
00:07:59.560 This next one puts a strain on so many things and it needs to be resolved.
00:08:03.860 This problem, it's a problem.
00:08:05.280 It puts a strain on housing, which has been discussed on your health care,
00:08:09.040 makes it harder to get health care, makes lines longer.
00:08:11.960 And it makes a big difference when it comes to education as well.
00:08:15.020 You know, here in Alberta, more people come to Alberta than I think any other province in the country.
00:08:19.840 And there's discussions all the time about teachers having to deal with special needs kids in class.
00:08:25.480 But very often it's they don't speak our language.
00:08:28.020 It's because we bring too many people here from other countries.
00:08:31.140 More than a million a year over the last few years.
00:08:34.580 And it's putting a strain on all our services.
00:08:37.840 How are the liberals doing on that?
00:08:39.740 Ten years of radical open borders policies and mass migration have undermined confidence
00:08:45.200 in what was the best system of immigration anywhere in the world.
00:08:48.760 The liberals imposed this radical approach without any care, consideration or thought.
00:08:53.660 They have allowed people to come to this country and get visitor visas and other permits to enter Canada
00:09:00.280 without actually performing any criminal background checks.
00:09:04.500 To speed things up, because we are short staffed,
00:09:07.100 we're allowing people into the country without first doing that security screening.
00:09:10.600 And so from your perspective and your members' perspective, this is not a good thing?
00:09:15.020 This is a terrible thing.
00:09:16.460 If someone is not a citizen, not a Canadian, and commits a crime,
00:09:20.760 then they should be shown the door.
00:09:22.180 Because becoming a citizen of this country requires good law-abiding behavior
00:09:27.340 that will protect the well-being and the interests of this country.
00:09:30.400 You have to agree the liberals have been an absolute disaster on these four things.
00:09:35.180 And some people might say it hasn't been long enough,
00:09:37.080 but we've had this government officially since April the 28th.
00:09:40.520 That's when the election was.
00:09:41.520 That's a lot of months ago.
00:09:43.280 And Carney was prime minister prior to that.
00:09:46.520 And if the election were held on the four things we've talked about so far,
00:09:50.220 it would have been a massive majority for Pierre Pauly and the conservatives.
00:09:53.100 And you know that.
00:09:54.140 And Carney got elected on one thing, Donald Trump.
00:09:56.900 But you have to remember, they used Donald Trump to scare people.
00:10:03.580 And remember, I talked about Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals.
00:10:06.340 Rule 9 said, the threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.
00:10:11.500 And they also demonized Pierre Pauly and that was Rule 13.
00:10:16.420 Remember, learn from the rules that the left follow.
00:10:19.360 Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals.
00:10:20.940 Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
00:10:23.760 And they've done that and still do that with Pierre Pauly.
00:10:26.080 But Carney got elected on one thing and one thing alone.
00:10:30.960 He was the best guy to deal with Donald Trump.
00:10:34.740 A new survey from Nanos Research for CTV News shows Mark Carney is the top pick to deal with
00:10:40.640 U.S. President Donald Trump over conservative leader Pierre Pauly and his fellow liberal leadership
00:10:45.980 candidates.
00:10:46.520 Since he took office, not only has he failed to get the promised deal, but American tariffs
00:10:51.980 on aluminum, autos, and steel have doubled.
00:10:55.560 On forestry communities, they have tripled.
00:10:59.100 The prime minister says, who cares?
00:11:01.020 All of us on this side of the house care about the communities that are being emptied out in
00:11:06.220 our forestry.
00:11:07.620 The steel workers in Hamilton who don't have jobs to pay their mortgages.
00:11:11.720 We care about those people.
00:11:13.640 Why doesn't he?
00:11:15.300 As we get closer to Christmas, and thank God, government will be gone in four days for a
00:11:21.060 long haul over the Christmas holidays.
00:11:23.880 Mark Carney has yet to get a deal with our biggest trading partner, the United States of
00:11:28.660 America.
00:11:29.420 And as Paulyov says, things have gotten worse.
00:11:31.840 People are losing their jobs.
00:11:33.180 And Mark Carney says, who cares?
00:11:36.780 Who cares?
00:11:37.760 Who cares?
00:11:39.120 Well, I care and you care, and we'll reminisce some more, certainly, about the year that was
00:11:44.280 as we get closer to January the 1st.
00:11:46.620 But I just thought it was interesting that we're coming to the end of government at the
00:11:49.680 end of this week, a week earlier than last year, when we had so little government this
00:11:54.920 year, but so much happened.
00:11:57.320 And it's been a disaster.
00:11:58.780 I was just sitting here over the last few minutes thinking about an episode of M.A.S.H.
00:12:05.200 It's an episode where they reminisce about the year that was as the calendar flipped over
00:12:11.640 to January 1st.
00:12:12.600 And every year, Sherman Potter, played by Harry Morgan, would be dressed up as Father Time,
00:12:18.440 and he would raise his class and say, here's to the new year.
00:12:22.540 May it be a damn sight better than the last.
00:12:25.520 Thanks for watching.
00:12:26.460 I do appreciate it.
00:12:27.440 If you liked the video, give it a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel, ring the bell for
00:12:31.020 notifications.
00:12:31.960 I'll see you in the next one.
