00:00:00.000 Calgary got hit with some pretty heavy snow last night.
00:00:28.200 I wonder if any of those crazy but dedicated canvassers are out collecting signatures on petitions today.
00:00:35.900 Let's go take a look.
00:00:40.460 Just in my backyard about to head out and it's a beautiful day today.
00:00:44.580 Lots of sunshine, minus 12 Celsius and you saw all the snow we got in Calgary.
00:00:49.340 So some extreme conditions out here.
00:00:52.040 And I think I'll call this video the Warriors of Alberta Independence
00:00:55.820 because they do have to come out at an extreme time of the year.
00:00:59.700 I think back of the farce of the Thomas Lukasik Forever Canadian campaign, that petition campaign.
00:01:05.760 He went through those people out in the middle of the summertime when it was nice and warm.
00:01:10.200 They didn't have to collect signatures.
00:01:12.320 The question meant nothing.
00:01:13.580 It was a procedural question.
00:01:15.260 It would have maintained the status quo.
00:01:16.900 The fact that Alberta taxpayers had to pay any dollars for that, it kind of makes me mad.
00:01:21.800 It really does.
00:01:23.080 So the people we're going to go out and visit today are out here day after day, week after week,
00:01:28.060 collecting signatures on these petitions so that Alberta can gain its independence.
00:01:33.340 Let's go check out some of the Warriors of Alberta Independence.
00:01:37.180 So I just went by the signing location.
00:01:39.440 These people are generally here on Saturdays and Sundays, I think from 12 till 4.
00:01:43.860 And it's in the southeast, not too far from where I live.
00:01:46.740 It's basically at the Dog Walk Park on 52nd Street, just south of Stoney Trail.
00:01:52.340 So they're there right now.
00:01:53.820 I'm going to drop by and see them.
00:01:55.360 You know, very often people say to me, thanks, John, for all that you do for the independence
00:02:00.940 movement.
00:02:01.340 And I often say to them, I'm not really doing a hell of a lot.
00:02:04.500 What I do is I go on my channel.
00:02:06.060 I talk to people in the independence movement.
00:02:08.140 I try to help the cause the best I can.
00:02:10.800 It's the people that are out there day after day after day collecting signatures.
00:02:15.140 Now, I'm going to have a date coming up very soon, which I'm going to talk about on my
00:02:19.180 channel and have a petition signing event.
00:02:21.900 But what I wanted to do before I went over to this signing location is I wanted to do something
00:02:28.300 for these people because they're out there on days like today when it's cold, sunny, cold
00:02:34.020 after a snowfall.
00:02:35.140 So let's go do that right now.
00:02:39.740 Thank you.
00:02:40.400 Could I get four large coffees black on a tray with cream and sugar on the side and four
00:02:51.200 large fries, please?
00:02:55.400 I'll just put the sugars inside.
00:02:57.020 Great.
00:02:57.420 Thank you.
00:02:58.120 Wow.
00:03:00.160 I can probably handle this.
00:03:02.240 Let's see if we can do it.
00:03:03.280 Hey, how you doing?
00:03:06.360 Good.
00:03:06.840 Very good.
00:03:07.800 How's it going out here today?
00:03:09.140 Very good.
00:03:09.740 John, right?
00:03:10.520 Yes.
00:03:11.040 I see your podcast.
00:03:11.900 I got something for you guys.
00:03:13.580 Nice to meet you.
00:03:14.180 I do.
00:03:15.340 It's great to see you out here.
00:03:17.780 You want to give me a hand?
00:03:19.180 Come on over here.
00:03:22.260 Here you go.
00:03:23.880 That's cream and sugar.
00:03:24.980 I think we got somebody out there with a flag.
00:03:29.780 I'll take it over to them, too.
00:03:31.620 We'll take it out to...
00:03:32.280 Oh, I'm not done yet.
00:03:33.980 I'm not done yet.
00:03:36.800 I got French fries for everybody.
00:03:39.480 So there you go.
00:03:40.620 Thank you.
00:03:41.100 That is so thoughtful.
00:03:42.740 I wanted to thank you guys for being out here.
00:03:45.720 I'm doing a video for tomorrow called The Warriors of Alberta Independence.
00:03:49.600 Yeah.
00:03:50.100 And you guys are on the front line.
00:03:51.480 I saw the snow falling last night.
00:03:52.760 They said, I wonder how many people are going to be out after the snowfall.
00:03:55.500 We'll be here.
00:03:56.300 Lovely day today, right?
00:03:58.240 So thank you so much.
00:03:59.540 And I wanted to come by and drop off the coffee and the French fries to you.
00:04:02.880 Thank you very much.
00:04:03.440 Okay.
00:04:04.220 So I'm at the location right now at 52nd Street, right at the Dog Walk Park,
00:04:08.680 just a little bit south of Stoney Trail on the west side here.
00:04:12.320 Great location for a petition signing campaign.
00:04:16.400 I'm here with Jerry Budsiak, who is one of the regional directors for this area.
00:04:20.660 Jerry, just astounding that you're out here on a day like this.
00:04:24.460 I'm calling you guys the Warriors of Independence today because, you know, we got all that snow here in Calgary last night.
00:04:30.280 It's kind of a chilly day, although a beautiful sunny day today.
00:04:32.980 But you're here every Saturday.
00:04:34.520 Why?
00:04:34.860 This is too important not to be here.
00:04:39.160 My wife, Sharon, and I, we have kids, we have grandkids, and this isn't the same Canada we grew up in.
00:04:47.460 And so what we see our opportunity is for Alberta to go out on its own.
00:04:53.100 This is very important to us.
00:04:55.060 You know, I hear that a lot from people who are a little bit older, might have grandchildren.
00:04:58.620 They say they're doing it for their grandkids because they want a better life for them.
00:05:02.580 You're out here on a day like today.
00:05:04.720 You know, it's a real challenge.
00:05:06.100 I was talking earlier from my house that the forever Canadian people had that beautiful sunny weather last summer.
00:05:13.020 We've had to deal with inclement weather like this.
00:05:15.860 People thank me for doing things for Alberta Independence.
00:05:18.900 But it's people on the front line like you that are out here on a regular basis.
00:05:22.000 You're out on the street waving around an Alberta flag to get people here.
00:05:25.020 How is business when it comes to signing petitions here at this location?
00:05:28.900 This is a great location.
00:05:30.840 It's high traffic.
00:05:33.380 I walk the flag a lot along 52nd Street.
00:05:38.060 The appreciative horn toots probably outnumber the thumbs down ones probably 95 to 5.
00:05:46.640 And it's a great location, I think.
00:05:49.080 And one thing I would say is we've seen a change from the town halls.
00:05:56.040 There were a lot of us white hares.
00:05:57.860 What's happened is we got a lot of young people here that show up and sign.
00:06:01.820 That's encouraging.
00:06:03.000 Now, I wanted to ask you about this.
00:06:04.720 You know, we hear about it.
00:06:06.280 And maybe it's magnified too much.
00:06:07.820 But we do hear about the negative Nellies, the people who we've had a few people get abusive with, you know, the canvassers out there.
00:06:15.860 Have you encountered any of that at this spot?
00:06:17.620 We had one earlier on, but this is an official campaign sanctioned by Elections Alberta.
00:06:27.580 The incident was reported, and I'm sure that individual will not show up again.
00:06:33.180 And everything else since then has been minor.
00:06:35.720 Good stuff.
00:06:36.180 I'm glad to hear that.
00:06:37.120 But this is a good location.
00:06:38.320 You're pretty busy here.
00:06:39.620 We've had a number of people come by just while I've been here for the last 15, 20 minutes.
00:06:43.200 Yeah, it's a great location.
00:06:45.440 And we're going to be here every Saturday from 12 to 5 and at least till the end of March.
00:06:52.880 Fantastic.
00:06:53.500 Thank you so much.
00:06:54.240 I appreciate it.
00:06:54.880 And again, thank you so much for everything you're doing for the independence movement.
00:06:57.960 You're welcome, John.
00:06:58.660 Can I get three medium coffees, black, please, with cream and sugar on the side with a tray and three double chocolate donuts?
00:07:11.560 How many double chocolates?
00:07:12.960 Three.
00:07:13.260 Hey, how you doing today?
00:07:18.220 I brought you guys some coffee and donuts.
00:07:20.220 Very nice of you.
00:07:21.140 Thank you.
00:07:21.720 You're very welcome.
00:07:23.140 Thanks.
00:07:23.920 Ari.
00:07:24.680 Ari.
00:07:25.520 David.
00:07:26.100 David.
00:07:26.400 John, nice to meet you.
00:07:27.360 Burt Montgomery, pleased to meet you.
00:07:28.640 Burt.
00:07:28.940 Burt.
00:07:29.300 Burt, nice to meet you.
00:07:30.760 Did you just sign?
00:07:31.680 I just signed.
00:07:32.340 You just signed, Burt.
00:07:33.420 Yeah, yeah.
00:07:34.000 Well, I wanted to come out here today.
00:07:35.320 I'm recording, by the way.
00:07:36.480 I'm doing a video.
00:07:38.140 I'm doing a video called The Warriors of Independence.
00:07:41.320 Awesome.
00:07:41.600 I was just over at the place at 52nd Street, the Dog Walk Park, just south of Stoney.
00:07:47.500 They've had people in there today, and I just wanted to come around.
00:07:50.880 Thank you guys for being out here today.
00:07:52.900 I was thinking about this last night when we were getting that snow, you know?
00:07:56.780 I wonder if people are going to come out on a day like today.
00:07:59.280 I was thinking about it, too.
00:08:00.040 You even got a fire.
00:08:01.180 We've been here every Saturday.
00:08:04.020 We got the heater.
00:08:06.140 Look at this.
00:08:07.180 So you were here during that real cold spell we had as well.
00:08:10.100 That was my first time out.
00:08:11.340 Right.
00:08:12.000 That one, yeah.
00:08:12.420 Yeah, yeah.
00:08:13.500 Unbelievable.
00:08:13.820 And then everybody came after we took the tent out.
00:08:17.240 So I'm at the location right here at 52nd Street, 130th Avenue at the Athletic Park.
00:08:22.700 Dropped off some coffee and donuts.
00:08:24.440 I'm here with Ari Moldvan, who is one of the canvassers here today.
00:08:28.220 Ari, show people your hand.
00:08:29.920 You broke your hand.
00:08:31.160 Yeah.
00:08:31.320 So he says, I've got some time.
00:08:32.880 I thought I'd sign people up and get out here and sign people up at this amazing place.
00:08:37.280 You've got a little fire here to keep yourself warm.
00:08:40.940 How has it been at this location?
00:08:42.920 Really good support.
00:08:44.040 A lot of positive, you know, waves and beeps as we go by and just really steady traffic of everybody coming by to sign here.
00:08:50.540 Yeah, you know, I was here not too long ago and it's a good location here as well at this athletic park.
00:08:56.200 And you were out here last weekend.
00:08:57.920 You know, it's a pretty sunny day here today.
00:08:59.560 Beautiful weather, although it is a little bit cold still.
00:09:02.680 Not as cold as last weekend.
00:09:03.560 But you said you were really busy last weekend.
00:09:05.740 Is that right?
00:09:06.240 Oh, especially as we were taking everything down.
00:09:09.160 Is that right?
00:09:10.000 Yeah.
00:09:10.580 So when you were out last week, did you have your little fire here with you?
00:09:14.120 We did have the fire here.
00:09:15.340 Yeah.
00:09:15.940 Good.
00:09:16.460 And you've actually set up another location not too far from where I am.
00:09:19.220 So maybe I'll drop by and see those guys who are just over behind Home Depot here.
00:09:22.620 Why are you doing this?
00:09:23.460 Why are you out here?
00:09:24.440 I mean, what's been going on in Ottawa and what happens in Alberta here, it's been like, I mean, it affects our prosperity.
00:09:31.420 You go down, you see what's going on in the United States where they actually develop their energy and they develop their industry here.
00:09:36.320 And, you know, it's just wrong the way that we get treated.
00:09:39.300 Yeah.
00:09:39.420 You know, I was at the other location.
00:09:41.080 I said, have you had any, I call them negative Nellies, you know, we've had some instances across the province with people coming up and being disruptive.
00:09:48.640 Anything like that happening at this location?
00:09:50.680 I mean, not really.
00:09:51.780 A couple of people giving us a finger driving by, but I haven't had anyone yell at me.
00:09:55.980 And at the other location, they said about 95% positive.
00:09:59.060 You get the same thing?
00:10:00.060 I'd say even higher.
00:10:01.580 Yeah, I'd say probably close to 100% positive.
00:10:04.180 May I ask you, how old are you?
00:10:05.860 32, or sorry, 31.
00:10:07.300 You're a young man.
00:10:08.480 You know, for somebody like myself, and I've talked to a lot of people my age, I'm 61 now.
00:10:13.760 People say they're doing this for their grandchildren.
00:10:17.520 But you're a young person.
00:10:19.100 How did you get involved in the independence movement?
00:10:21.780 You mentioned that, you know, the way we're treated really from Ottawa, can't get our resources out of the ground and things like that.
00:10:27.640 But do you notice a lot of other young people who feel the same way?
00:10:30.400 I would say close to all of my friends feel the same way.
00:10:33.820 I am actually from Ontario originally.
00:10:35.820 I moved out to Alberta for work.
00:10:39.060 These jobs don't exist in Ontario.
00:10:41.120 You come out here, housing is less expensive.
00:10:43.280 And, you know, I made a choice to come out here.
00:10:46.380 And I don't want to see, like, Alberta become, like, the rest of the Canada, really.
00:10:51.560 Well, I moved out here from Ottawa or from Ontario about 15 years ago.
00:10:55.260 I feel the same way.
00:10:56.460 I'm calling this the Warriors of Independence after that snowy night last night.
00:11:00.660 I thought, would we have people out here doing this?
00:11:02.640 And they're all across the province today as well in this cold weather.
00:11:06.060 Thanks so much for all of your time and for helping out.
00:11:08.560 Thank you.
00:11:08.900 Okay, so going into the third location here, not too far away from the last one.
00:11:19.740 It's kind of in behind the Home Depot here on 130th Avenue.
00:11:22.800 Got a drive-thru here at the McDonald's.
00:11:25.060 So we'll just go through the drive-thru and make it easy.
00:11:27.080 Can I have three medium coffees, black, with cream and sugar on the side, and three large fries?
00:11:39.700 I got the medium coffees because McDonald's coffees are so damn big.
00:11:45.760 How you doing?
00:11:46.980 Good, John.
00:11:48.020 Yes, how you doing?
00:11:49.780 John.
00:11:50.740 John.
00:11:51.500 You are?
00:11:52.060 Carrie.
00:11:52.540 Carrie, and you are?
00:11:53.680 I am Greg.
00:11:54.520 Are you signing people up right here, guys?
00:11:56.620 Yes.
00:11:57.020 Yes.
00:11:58.200 Unbelievable.
00:11:58.900 Yeah.
00:11:59.280 I was just over at the athletic park, and they said you guys are here.
00:12:03.080 You're doing it right off of this little thing here.
00:12:05.340 Yeah, here's our table.
00:12:06.480 Yeah, I just so happened to be there.
00:12:08.820 Could I give you guys a coffee?
00:12:10.680 I got a hot coffee in the car for you.
00:12:12.700 I've got a firmness of coffee, a big one.
00:12:15.240 Well, I got some coffee for you if you want a coffee with cream and sugar,
00:12:19.260 and I've got you some French fries from McDonald's.
00:12:22.260 Oh, man.
00:12:23.300 Well, so please, please come and get the fries.
00:12:26.340 I bought them for you.
00:12:27.280 I can bring them over here for you.
00:12:28.520 Would you like me to do that?
00:12:29.860 Okay, great.
00:12:30.680 Thank you.
00:12:31.120 We'll be right back.
00:12:32.300 I just want to jump in here and apologize to Greg.
00:12:35.060 I had an audio issue when I did this interview with him, but, you know, it was interesting.
00:12:39.840 All three of the interviews I did, most of them were so positive, saying that, you know,
00:12:44.400 95% of the people coming by had a positive reaction to their independence petition.
00:12:49.820 But what's amazing about this one is these two guys set up on this utility box at the
00:12:54.480 side of the road at this home depot down here in the southeast, just off 52nd Street.
00:13:00.060 Really remarkable to think this is what people are doing across the province so Alberta can
00:13:05.060 gain its independence.
00:13:06.060 I'm back at home.
00:13:08.120 What an exhilarating experience visiting those three different petition signing places here
00:13:13.620 in the southeast part of Calgary.
00:13:15.140 You know what's amazing about it is all of those places were about 10 minutes from where
00:13:18.940 I'm standing right now.
00:13:20.080 So if you think about that from a provincial standpoint, we're doing pretty good if we've
00:13:25.360 got petition places all over the province on a Saturday morning into a Saturday afternoon.
00:13:31.300 Earlier today, I spoke with my friend Jeevan Mangad.
00:13:33.620 You've probably seen him on the channel here.
00:13:35.580 He's one of the organizers of petition pop-ups here in Calgary.
00:13:39.760 And he said a friend of his had one going on in the northwest today.
00:13:43.440 He said, I'll try to get a video for you.
00:13:45.020 So let's hear from Terry up in the northwest.
00:13:47.220 I think he's at a farm market, a farmer's market rather, in the Bonass area.
00:13:51.660 Hi, John.
00:13:52.300 I'm Terry.
00:13:53.240 I'm here at the Calgary farmer's market just by Bonass. 1.00
00:13:58.680 We just started our signing petition.
00:14:00.600 You can see already we've got a small lineup, four or five people gathering.
00:14:07.660 Great day.
00:14:08.580 It's only about minus five.
00:14:10.560 And I thought I'd share with you why I stand up for independence for Alberta.
00:14:15.840 As a small-town new fee, I moved to Calgary about 28 years ago looking for a better life.
00:14:22.500 And boy, I sure found it here in Alberta.
00:14:25.100 And now, from what I've seen, I've barely even worked in.
00:14:29.360 I've worked four years out of the past 11 years here in Alberta.
00:14:33.220 And Canada's basically having to go on at a business sale.
00:14:35.960 And I don't want any part of that.
00:14:38.040 And I have a 21-year-old son that can't find work.
00:14:41.260 So that's why I'm out here today.
00:14:43.120 We're having a fantastic day.
00:14:44.480 We're going to be here again all day tomorrow.
00:14:46.160 From 1.30 to 4.30 here at the Calgary Farmer's Market.
00:14:51.120 And people, come on out.
00:14:52.200 It's nice weather.
00:14:53.080 We're having fun.
00:14:54.260 We're getting some vitamin D.
00:14:56.040 And come on out.
00:14:57.380 Sign the petition.
00:14:58.680 Thanks, John.
00:14:59.340 Bye for now.
00:14:59.820 Thank you very much, Terry, for doing that.
00:15:03.280 I appreciate it going above and beyond the call of duty and working hard for the independence
00:15:08.560 movement in the Northwest, about as far away as you can get from where I'm standing as well.
00:15:13.360 Thank you so much for watching this.
00:15:15.080 And for those of you who haven't signed the petition yet or think your signature really
00:15:20.200 won't make a difference, you need to sign the petition.
00:15:23.500 Reach out to Stay Free Alberta.
00:15:26.280 If you can't make it out to a petition signing location, you can do that.
00:15:30.020 At StayFreeAlberta.com.
00:15:32.240 But these places are all over the province.
00:15:34.500 If you're driving around, you're going to probably come across somebody standing on a
00:15:37.920 street, waving an Alberta flag.
00:15:40.480 And pretty close by, you'll find a petition that you can sign.
00:15:43.540 I urge you to do that.
00:15:45.200 Thank you so much for watching.
00:15:46.680 I hope you enjoyed this video.
00:15:48.060 If you did, give it a thumbs up.
