00:00:00.000 Hello there. I'm in Northwest Calgary right now. A beautiful morning. I started off at about 12
00:00:09.120 degrees so I've got the arm and leg warmers on this morning. And I just wanted to get a little
00:00:14.680 video here because this is one of my favorite places when I ride in the Northwest. I'll turn
00:00:20.040 the camera around here and you can see the Bow River that winds its way through Northwest Calgary.
00:00:27.000 And that's it up there in that direction. You can see the Rocky Mountains maybe out in the distance
00:00:31.980 there. A little hazy but still lots of snow out there. And over there in the distance you can kind
00:00:37.120 of see, as Canada Olympic Park, so a little snow on the hill. People do ski there in the wintertime
00:00:42.560 and they've been making snow so it hasn't all melted away at this point. And you can see the ski jump
00:00:47.440 tower. The ski jump tower was built for the 1988 Olympics. You might remember that we're here in
00:00:53.940 Calgary. But they're not regulation anymore. They can't use them. So they've reached the end of
00:00:59.520 their usefulness. If they need a lot of work, they're going to tear it down. So that will soon
00:01:03.260 be gone from this part of Calgary. You won't see it anymore. But beautiful morning here in Calgary.
00:01:11.920 Temperature's supposed to get to 27 here starting off at about 12 this morning. And weather has been
00:01:17.940 just picture perfect after a real crappy winter, I have to say. And here I am now on the Elbow River.
00:01:26.020 And now this is just a little bit to the southeast of downtown, the Elbow River. Right there, that's
00:01:32.060 the Calgary Stampede grounds. All right. And then if you just go over this way a little bit, there's the
00:01:38.160 Scotiabank Saddledome. That's where the Calgary flames play. And you can see downtown Calgary right
00:01:42.640 in behind it. So the Elbow River winds all the way through. Calgary twists and turns. And this bike
00:01:49.340 path right here, I'm going to take that all the way down. And it follows right along the river. Twist,
00:01:53.720 turn, twist, turn, all the way down. And then I'm going to go down towards the northwest of Calgary.
00:01:58.760 And that'll take me around the Glenmore Reservoir. So a beautiful day. It's kind of a tour through
00:02:06.260 Calgary today. And right now I'm in North Glenmore Park. Turn the camera around. And this is just a
00:02:14.620 little bit to the west of the Glenmore Reservoir. And you know, it's funny, I've been just thinking
00:02:18.940 about it. I've been riding out here about, I'm about 70k in. About 108k ride today. Excuse me,
00:02:27.900 just had an energy bar. Caught in my throat. I've ridden on mostly bike paths, about 95%. But beautiful
00:02:34.500 view from here out towards the west. And you see that little bridge down there. And across there.
00:02:40.440 I'm going to head out that direction, a little short climb. And then all the way to the northwest
00:02:44.040 in the city. And then travel through Fish Creek Park. Pretty much this whole length over into the
00:02:50.280 southeast part of Calgary. Again, I just can't stress how nice it is. Beautiful today.
00:02:56.260 So I'm now in the southeast part of Calgary. I've worked my way all the way up to the northeast,
00:03:00.960 the northwest, the southwest. And now I'm just a little south of where I live in Riverbend.
00:03:07.180 That's the Bow River again. And we're looking south in Calgary. And then out towards the west,
00:03:15.760 the Rocky Mountains out that way. And then up that way. If you can kind of see, well, it's downtown's
00:03:24.960 up that way. So I'm going up that way along the bike path. Another gorgeous view today. I think
00:03:30.980 we're supposed to get some thundershowers this afternoon. It's supposed to rain. It's a little
00:03:35.360 humid for Calgary, which is never humid. Here I am back home at the old abode. And let's just take a
00:03:43.560 look at the tail of the tape. Let's see here. Three hours, 51 minutes of riding, 102 kilometers. And let's
00:03:53.780 see here. 53.8 kilometers an hour maximum speed, 703 elevation. So that's how much we went up.
00:04:06.600 689 down. 4,323 calories burned at an average speed. No, temperature is 27.8. So not too bad.
00:04:17.420 Average cadence, 96 RPM, which is a good, good, good, good, good for me. Knee problems when I was younger.
00:04:27.220 Higher cadence is better. I spin as fast as I can. At sometimes on flats, 117, which is pretty fast.
00:04:34.440 Anyway, great ride today. First 100k plus ride this year. Needed to do that. And in about a week and a
00:04:42.740 half, I do my annual ride from Kananaska's Village to the highest road crossing in the
00:04:48.080 Rocky Mountains Highwood Pass and back. Looking forward to that one every year. Love it.
00:04:52.360 How much again?
