00:00:16.220 over there, but I wanted to show you this to start things off. I'll come back to this
00:00:21.100 in just a moment. This afternoon, I was having a bit of a snooze on a rainy afternoon in
00:00:25.700 Calgary. It's up very early this morning and I woke up to see this on my screen. So you
00:00:31.320 can see this from YouTube. Trump, we've reached a deal. Breaking, Trump and EU reach a major
00:00:37.440 trade deal. Oh, really? So there was Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Union,
00:00:43.180 sitting next to Donald Trump and they have signed a deal. Now, as you know, Canada does not have
00:00:48.200 a deal with our biggest trading partner, the United States of America. But in that video,
00:00:55.700 the very first thing Donald Trump brought up was this. The European Union is going to agree
00:01:07.480 to purchase from the United States $750 billion worth of energy. $750 billion worth of energy.
00:01:19.400 And again, the energy is a very important component because we have more energy than anybody else in
00:01:27.620 that sense. And I think it was very wise that they buy a lot of energy and it's great stuff
00:01:36.960 and it solves a lot of problems. So that was a great decision, I think.
00:01:42.480 The EU is going to buy $750 billion worth of energy from the United States of America. Meanwhile,
00:01:49.480 here in Canada, here in Alberta, we can't get a pipeline from the east to the west to do something
00:01:56.260 like this because we've got the liberals in the way. We've got Mark Carney in the way.

00:02:08.700 You know, we've got a veto on everything here. Well, if the provinces don't want a pipeline,
00:02:13.680 no pipeline. Ah, if the aboriginals don't want a pipeline, no pipeline. Can you imagine the
00:02:17.840 prosperity if we could sell $750 billion worth of oil and energy from Alberta to the European Union
00:02:25.080 right now? But you know what? Carney, he's hitching his wagon, mentioned it so many times at the EU.
00:02:30.200 He and von der Leyen speak the same language, folks. Any deal that Canada makes with the EU will
00:02:37.040 include a carbon border adjustment mechanism. Do you think Donald Trump is paying an extra price
00:02:44.820 on his oil and energy going to the EU? Not a freaking chance. But if Canada were to do such a
00:02:50.280 thing, we'd have to pay extra to get our oil over there. And that's another reason why we don't have
00:02:55.100 a pipeline. Carney talked about this all the time. The Americans are being really
00:03:00.060 mean to me. But you know, if we make any deals overseas, there's got to be a price on carbon.
00:03:04.900 So on the one hand, we have our largest trading partner, as we've been discussing, attacking
00:03:10.980 us, putting tariffs on us. On the other hand, we have the opportunity to diversify trade.
00:03:17.880 Guess what one of the requirements is to diversify trade to the European Union? Guess what one of the
00:03:22.560 requirements is to diversify trade to the United Kingdom? Guess what one of the requirements
00:03:26.760 will be to diversify trade to emerging Asia? Is to have a form of price on carbon?
00:03:34.600 Meanwhile, we still haven't got a trade deal here with the United States of America.
00:03:41.160 Did I mention this? I'll get to this in just a moment.
00:03:43.740 Apparently, this deal, there's a 15% tariff on everything from the EU. Everything. And the EU,
00:03:51.200 because of a trade imbalance, is buying all this stuff, including the aforementioned energy from
00:03:56.540 the United States of America. Von der Leyen was asked about this. Yes, ma'am.
00:04:00.580 I have a question for the EU country president. What are the U.S. concessions? What is the U.S.
00:04:06.500 giving up in the deal? So, as we, the starting point was an imbalance, a surplus on our side and
00:04:12.720 a deficit on the U.S. side. And we wanted to rebalance the trade relation. And we wanted to do
00:04:19.180 it in a way that trade goes on between the two of us across the Atlantic, because the two biggest
00:04:27.000 economies should have a good trade flow between us. And we, I think we hit exactly the point we
00:04:33.680 wanted to find. Rebalance, but enable trade on both sides, which means good jobs on both sides
00:04:39.880 of the Atlantic, means prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic. And that was important for us.
00:04:46.360 Von der Leyen says we have to even out the trade imbalance. We need to work together. You know,
00:04:51.740 I think Canada should be able to get a better deal than 15% that the EU gets. We're their number
00:04:57.200 one trading partner. I think somebody, I don't know who that'll be, should be able to negotiate a deal.
00:05:02.640 But there's things that get in the way. Donald Trump talks about a trade imbalance with Canada.
00:05:06.940 Now, whether you like his numbers or not, the President of the United States believes there's
00:05:11.560 a big trade imbalance between our two countries, and we have to straighten that out. And there's
00:05:17.160 something else that really bothers him. He said this way back in March, and he's still talking about
00:05:23.880 this today. Canada has been ripping us off for years on tariffs for lumber and for dairy products.
00:05:32.060 250%, nobody ever talks about that. 250% tariff, which is taking advantage of our farmers. So that's
00:05:40.220 not going to happen anymore. We're going to be, they'll be met with the exact same tariff unless
00:05:45.400 they drop it. Dairy, dairy and lumber, but dairy. This is a big thing with Donald Trump.
00:05:51.080 Supply management, which is now entrenched in Canadian law. Could that be the reason? Other
00:05:56.980 people have talked about it. Milk getting in the way of a trade deal between Canada and the United
00:06:02.020 States of America because the Liberals and the Conservatives, because Paulyov says he won't touch
00:06:07.520 supply management either, but the Liberals and the Conservatives are trying to protect Quebec.
00:06:11.920 Quebec. We've got a government that won't get our oil to the East Coast so we can sell it to the EU.
00:06:20.260 $750 billion in energy from the United States to the EU. That will never happen for Canada,
00:06:26.340 but at least you got high prices on your milk, folks. What a great trade-off, eh?
