Hi, it's John, and welcome to the channel, 425 AM, Tuesday, October the 28th.
00:00:08.320
I hope you're having a great start to your day today.
00:00:11.220
I do have my big blue mug of coffee with me today.
00:00:13.760
I tip it to you, and I had another video ready to go on YouTube in about five minutes.
00:00:23.880
But I wanted to weigh in on the continuing saga of Doug Ford in the Ronald Reagan ad campaign
00:00:34.200
I've got a bit of a different perspective, I think, on this one.
00:00:38.240
I don't think this is any surprise to you, but we're being ruled over by stupid people.
00:00:45.520
Plato said, those people who say they are too smart to be engaged in politics
00:00:53.720
And folks, there's a lot of dumb going on here.
00:00:59.080
Somebody in Doug Ford's office, some underling, saw this 1987 video of Ronald Reagan.
00:01:06.820
It got to Doug Ford, and he said, yeah, let's create a video out of this.
00:01:14.580
He ran it through his good buddy, Mark Carney, who said it was absolutely fine to run this ad.
00:01:20.380
Now, I initially thought that, and I said this in a video previous,
00:01:27.660
that he was simply doing this because he wanted to be malicious,
00:01:34.500
I think in many ways he should be critical of him.
00:01:39.800
But I also thought he's been rather insulting of Donald Trump as well.
00:01:42.940
But nowhere along the line did anybody, right up to Mark Carney's office,
00:01:53.160
And there's an adage named after him called Hanlon's razor.
00:01:57.280
And it goes this way, never attribute to malice, that which can be explained by stupidity.
00:02:05.940
So here is Rob Ford admitting that he ran this through his good buddy, Mark Carney.
00:02:12.420
About you and about this situation, but have you,
00:02:16.460
our relations with the Prime Minister, are things strained now because of what's happened?
00:02:34.960
And they weren't talking about it before I put the ad on.
00:02:38.140
So I'm glad that Ronald Reagan was a free trader.
00:02:41.840
So no one in Doug Ford's office, or Doug Ford himself, or Mark Carney's office, or Mark Carney himself,
00:02:48.640
thought this might not be a very good idea knowing Donald Trump.
00:02:58.280
But what's even worse is the fact that Doug Ford is standing out there and bragging about the number of hits he's got on this video,
00:03:09.400
And that's the message we have to the American people.
00:03:12.820
And we're the third largest trading partner in the world, Ontario is.
00:03:23.940
We didn't have to spend the $75 million I thought we would, a fraction of that.
00:03:31.040
But what we did, we ended up with earned media of anywhere from 300 to 400 million people and impressions.
00:03:41.000
But I was getting constituents calling me saying their relatives in India saw it, in Italy, Portugal, Scotland.
00:03:48.220
My niece in the U.K. said it was running all over in every outlet in the U.S.
00:03:58.600
He certainly has got his money's worth from this ad campaign.
00:04:06.780
And there's a harsh reality coming that I'm going to talk about in just a moment for Doug Ford.
00:04:10.900
He goes on to talk about all the friends that he spoke to.
00:04:15.280
Some of them not on the same side of the political spectrum as him.
00:04:35.140
And I went right across the country and spoke to every single premier.
00:04:40.380
Well, sure enough, yeah, well, of course, Daniel Smith doesn't like the ads because she's not getting her auto annihilated, her manufacturing, her steel, her life science sector.
00:04:49.880
She has a commodity called oil that the Americans need and want.
00:04:57.740
I'd rather have no deal than a terrible deal that will cost jobs here in Ontario.
00:05:02.300
Daniel Smith doesn't like the ads because she's not getting her auto annihilated or her steel or aluminum.
00:05:09.940
Daniel Smith doesn't like the ads because she realizes how stupid they are.
00:05:14.520
And she realizes that this stupid ad campaign wasn't going to do any good.
00:05:19.940
And what Doug Ford, this stupid man that you've seen on the screen here, doesn't understand is Alberta is going to sell its oil to the United States because you can't move our oil fields into the United States.
00:05:29.780
But Doug, you can move your auto sector into the United States.
00:05:36.080
Donald Trump's still got more than three years to go.
00:05:53.760
As Canadian PM says, they were close to a trade deal.
00:05:56.320
Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, another stupid politician.
00:06:00.420
The entire idea behind Premier Ford's advertising campaign, although I acknowledge ours was of a decidedly different scale, is to get the message out to Americans about the impact of tariffs on Americans.
00:06:14.260
The only people paying the additional 10% that the president announced the other day are Americans.
00:06:21.560
So let's double down on the ads, says the stupid man out on the West Coast.
00:06:27.240
Triple down on the stupidity, I guess you could say.
00:06:40.640
Why did no one say, stop, not a good idea, all the way up the chain of command, right to the Prime Minister's office?
00:06:53.860
We know, you know, that Mark Carney got elected because of Donald Trump.
00:06:58.180
And if Donald Trump goes away, an election could be coming, folks.
00:07:02.100
So Doug Ford says, I'm going to put out these ads.
00:07:08.520
It just keeps the elbows up people in Mark Carney's lane.
00:07:24.700
If you like the video, please give me a thumbs up.
