00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel 334 a.m. Great to have you along today. Hope you're having a great start to your Saturday. It is Saturday, August 22nd. 00:00:27.500 So it's amazing what can happen late on a Friday evening or in the middle of the night. Many of you were probably sleeping when this happened. I was. Woke up this morning finding out that trade negotiations have broken down between Canada and the United States. Mark Carney has called off discussions.
00:00:43.760 You know, generally when governments dump news on a Friday, they do it because it ends up in the black hole of news on the weekend where very few people are working and it gets lost in the shuffle and forgotten by Monday.
00:00:56.000 This one is going to hurt folks.
00:00:58.080 And, you know, I can't help but come to the conclusion that Mark Carney kind of panicked on this one.
00:01:03.240 He realized that he hadn't got a good deal here.
00:01:05.600 So he pulled out at the last minute.
00:01:07.200 But both sides are blaming each other on this.
00:01:10.120 Now, I have a very important question I think needs to be answered here.
00:01:13.060 What happened?
00:01:14.400 I want the absolute truth on this.
00:01:17.260 I want all the details on this
00:01:18.880 because it shouldn't be so hard for Mark Carney
00:01:21.840 to provide Canadians with what happened
00:01:23.920 because he's blaming the Americans.
00:01:25.860 And if the Americans have done something here,
00:01:27.800 tell us what happened.
00:01:28.580 Now, let's just take a look at what Mark Carney
00:01:30.640 is saying on X.
00:01:31.880 This is his statement right here.
00:01:33.500 My statement on Canada-US trade negotiations.
00:01:36.520 Here's the first document on the screen.
00:01:38.960 You can pause this and read the whole thing if you like.
00:01:42.000 And here is the second document.
00:01:43.280 I'm not going to read the whole thing simply because I'm going to go into a news story in just a moment that gets into the really the nitty gritty and the details of that document.
00:01:51.520 But I want to know what happened here.
00:01:53.860 OK, I want to know if this came down to one thing.
00:01:56.800 We'll get to that in just a moment.
00:01:58.080 So let's go to the National Post, a news story here.
00:02:01.840 Carney says he's suspending trade talks and matching new U.S. tariffs.
00:02:05.200 Folks, this is going to hurt.
00:02:07.420 Carney, Carney panicked here.
00:02:09.600 He did.
00:02:10.700 I think some premiers got in his ear as well.
00:02:12.960 One of them was Wob Canoe, which we talked about yesterday. Canoe seemed to be really concerned
00:02:17.580 about one thing, and it was a rather petty, pathetic thing. But let's read a bit of this 0.91
00:02:22.740 story here. In a stunning setback in trade negotiations with the United States, Prime
00:02:27.360 Minister Mark Carney announced late on Friday that he is suspending talks and will match steep
00:02:32.280 new U.S. tariffs that are set to come into effect on some Canadian goods. This is going to hurt,
00:02:37.500 folks. In recent weeks, we made important progress toward improving Canada's position.
00:02:42.620 this is Carney, as having the best deal in the world with the U.S. However, that progress has
00:02:47.780 not been enough to meet our objectives for Canadians, said Carney, in a statement sent
00:02:52.120 to reporters 20 minutes before midnight on Friday. As a result, this evening, I have decided to
00:02:57.200 suspend trade negotiations with the U.S. and have directed Canada's negotiators to return to Ottawa.
00:03:03.120 They have worked hard, in good faith, to defend the interests of Canadians throughout these
00:03:07.880 negotiations up until the very last minute. However, last minute changes in the U.S. proposed
00:03:13.440 terms were unfair, uneconomic, and called into question the reliability of any deal, the statement
00:03:19.160 reads. I want to know specifically what those things were. If that's what the United States did,
00:03:24.140 it shouldn't be hard for Carney to explain to Canadians what happened here. Because I don't
00:03:29.440 trust the Liberal Party of Canada. As a matter of fact, I distrust the Liberal Party of Canada
00:03:34.120 more than I distrust Donald Trump and the United States administration.
00:03:37.940 Listen, I've had liberals ruling this government in Canada for the last 11 years.
00:03:42.480 I have a saying, you can't spell liberal without L, I, and E.
00:03:47.280 But what did the Americans say? They're blaming the Canadians.
00:03:50.040 A statement posted on social media on Friday night by U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer
00:03:54.940 blamed Canada for the breakdown.
00:03:57.200 Despite the U.S. offer to Canada to receive the best treatment of any major exporter to our market,
00:04:02.420 New demands, listen to this, new demands and walkbacks of other commitments by Canada have
00:04:07.880 upended the careful balance reached in the past days. Greer's statement reads, this is a missed
00:04:13.100 opportunity for Canada to partner with the United States, which is the fastest growing economy in
00:04:18.280 the G7. What makes more sense here? Now, if we don't hear specifically what the Americans asked
00:04:25.900 for, Mark Carney is lying to Canadians and misleading Canadians with what he said here,
00:04:30.940 last-minute changes in the U.S. proposed terms were unfair, uneconomic, and called into question.
00:04:36.960 I tend to believe that what Jamison Greer here is saying, that we had new demands and walkbacks of
00:04:41.940 other commitments. That's why these trade talks failed. That's what I believe. Because again,
00:04:48.620 Carney knew he had a bad deal. He started to panic at the end, so he pulled out of this. And now,
00:04:53.840 folks, they go into the spin cycle again. This happened just before midnight. Within the last
00:04:59.960 three hours, every liberal in the caucus got a call. We're going to be on a Zoom call, or we're
00:05:06.540 going to have a discussion here, and this is what you're going to tell the media tomorrow. It's all
00:05:10.620 the Americans' fault. I want to know what happened here. Now, my question is, did this come down to 1.00
00:05:15.880 booze on shelves? Could it be that petty? Well, this is Canada, after all. Could it be that
00:05:20.780 pathetic? Well, this is Canada, after all. Could it be that mediocre? Well, this is Canada, after 0.99
00:05:25.460 all. You know, this story right here in the National Post was put up 17 hours ago. Carson
00:05:31.660 Jerema, Wob Canoe sit down. The Manitoba premiers shows no class attacking Carney's tentative trade
00:05:37.120 deal with Trump. I said yesterday, Wob Canoe was trying to destroy this trade deal. And another
00:05:42.280 premier is all of a sudden talking after having laryngitis for two or three days. Did this come
00:05:47.120 down to booze? You remember Wob Canoe started rolling out the Epstein files and how Donald
00:05:52.920 Trump's a bad person. You can't get a good deal with a bad person. His main concern was that Mark
00:05:57.360 Carney, the federal government, was asking the provinces to put booze back on the shelves. Did
00:06:02.380 it come down to that? This is what Cano said yesterday. It seemed to be his main concern.
00:06:07.440 That the prime minister really, really recommended and we decided to put the booze back on the
00:06:12.520 shelves. What I would say to Canadians is leave it there. Did it come down to something as stupid
00:06:19.800 is putting booze back on shelves. I expect some media type, some intrepid reporter to walk up to 1.00
00:06:26.900 Carney and say, we want details, Mr. Carney, what happened? I want some transparency here.
00:06:30.980 We don't know what's going on. And we're not told anything. We're told to trust the Liberal Party of
00:06:35.720 Canada. I mean, all of a sudden, people like Doug Ford, remember this story ran the other day,
00:06:39.700 afternoon front page, Captain Canada goes silent. That's Doug Ford. All of a sudden, he had nothing
00:06:45.140 to say about this trade deal. Nothing. It's like he had laryngitis over the last couple of days,
00:06:49.940 but the laryngitis is finally gone. This is from the story I was talking about earlier.
00:06:54.260 Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he supported Carney's decision to end the talks and retaliate
00:06:59.480 against the U.S. tariffs. The Prime Minister has my full support for a strong response.
00:07:04.760 Tariff for tariff, dollar for dollar is refighted to protect Canadian sovereignty
00:07:08.760 and economic security. Everything needs to be on the table. Ontario is ready to do its part,
00:07:14.180 said Ford in a statement on social media. Trump had previously told reporters on Friday evening,
00:07:19.920 hours before these talks were suspended, he was confident a trade deal with Canada would be
00:07:24.840 reached as negotiators worked feverishly to get an agreement before the president's midnight
00:07:29.400 deadline. Let's go back up to Doug Ford up here. As we fight to protect Canadian sovereignty
00:07:34.240 and economic security, everything needs to be on the table. Ontario is ready to do its part,
00:07:40.700 said Ford in a statement on social media.
00:07:43.900 Well, you go for it, Doug.
00:07:45.820 Why don't you shut down the Ontario automotive industry?
00:07:48.800 It's 80% integrated with the U.S.
00:07:51.680 That'll really teach Donald Trump and his administration a lesson.
00:07:56.180 But you won't do that. Everything's on the table.
00:07:58.920 He'll come back to Alberta and ask us to sacrifice our oil industry.
00:08:02.260 That's what he'll do. 1.00
00:08:04.480 Alberta pays the way for the East.
00:08:06.520 The economic engine, folks. 1.00
00:08:08.400 And then when it comes to the dirty work, Alberta is going to be asked again to do the dirty work because Mark Carney caved on this.
00:08:16.080 Mark Carney failed on this. Mark Carney panicked on this. Mark Carney is a failure, folks.
00:08:22.620 And now the spin's coming. How great this is going to be. Elbows up, folks. 0.94
00:08:27.620 We're facing down the United States of America again, and we're back into the same cycle we've been in for the last 15 months.
00:08:34.200 I want transparency. What happened? Somebody ask Mark Carney the details. What happened? If the
00:08:40.440 United States made demands that we wouldn't agree to, what did they ask for? If he won't answer the
00:08:46.920 question, he's lying to us. I believe the United States on this. I don't believe Mark Carney and
00:08:54.740 the liberals. I don't believe them at all. What do you think? If you like this video, give it a
00:08:59.540 thumbs up, subscribe to the channel, ring the bell for notifications. I'll see you in the next one.
00:09:03.980 And ladies and gentlemen of Alberta, vote option two in the referendum in the fall.
00:09:08.480 We got to get out of this madhouse.
