00:00:00.000 Isaac Lameru, True North here ladies and gentlemen. I mean, there's still 30 minutes before the event starts and it is absolutely packed wall to wall in here. Thousands of people here inside the building right now. Thousands of people in line waiting to get in. I mean, it's ridiculous. Just take a look at the crowd.
00:00:21.700 Let's show some gratitude for the greatest prime minister of the 21st century, the Right Honorable Stephen Harper. Do we have any veterans here in the house today? Give it up for our veterans. Thank you. Thank you for your service. Good to see you, sir. Where did you serve?
00:00:50.460 Then the Canadian Navy and the Second World War. Indeed, yeah.
00:00:54.960 All round of applause. Bless you, my friend. How old were you at Juno Beach?
00:01:00.520 I was 19.
00:01:04.060 19. What a hero. What an incredible hero. Thank you, sir. We have to make this a country that is worthy of that hero's sacrifice, don't we?
00:01:17.220 Get him around.
00:01:18.180 The Liberals are not trying to pull a fast one. They have a very simple strategy in this election. And here's what it is. Make you forget about the last 10 years.
00:01:30.380 Everything they do will be about bringing collective amnesia of all the damage they've done. The first trick they've tried is replacing Justin Trudeau with his economic advisor and a hand-picked successor, Mark Carney.
00:01:47.600 How do you feel about Carney disrespecting Alberta or Western Canada as a whole and his whole approach against Western Canada?
00:01:58.460 I think it's completely wrong. I think the federal government has been doing this for way too long. Unfortunately, what I've been seeing from Carney is nothing but ignorance. And I'm actually seeing that from a lot of people from the central portion of Canada, basically.
00:02:15.160 I'm originally from Ontario. And I had no idea what Alberta actually did for the people and how much the actual transfer payments helped throughout.
00:02:24.960 So, yeah, for the federal government and for Carney to be turning around and trying to quash what's happening here in Alberta for his own purpose, he has seven pipelines here in Canada.
00:02:37.160 So, of course, he wants no more pipelines to go through, which doesn't help the people in Ontario and Quebec and the East Coast.
00:02:43.980 So how do you feel about the Alberta separation movement that we're seeing pick up some steam?
00:02:49.060 The Alberta separation movement is actually probably a really good thing at this point. It puts the federal government back into their lane, as Danielle would say it.
00:02:58.820 The separation, there's three parts to the separation at this point. The first part of it is either becoming 51st state.
00:03:05.740 The second part is to turn around and become an independent like Quebec. And the third is becoming our own country, OK, is what we're looking at.
00:03:16.900 So I think at this point, all cards are on deck, right? We have a choice to make as Canadians.
00:03:23.800 And it's whether or not we allow the federal government to turn around and flush our country down the toilet or whether we stand up to them.
00:03:29.560 If Carney wins the election, I can see well over 90% of Albertans choosing to do a referendum.
00:03:37.820 What brought you to the rally today?
00:03:39.780 I've always been a conservative, grew up a conservative, and just wanted to come out and show my support for Pierre.
00:03:45.480 And were you born in Alberta?
00:03:46.840 Was born in Alberta, yeah.
00:03:48.560 And how do you feel about the growing separatist movement in Alberta?
00:03:52.180 It's interesting because I find that people think that sovereignty and separation is the same thing, but we just want more sovereignty for our people.
00:04:01.720 We want to be able to do what we want when we want to do it and not be under the thumb of Ottawa.
00:04:07.340 And what do you think will happen with this separatist movement if Mark Carney somehow wins the next federal election?
00:04:12.960 It's going to ramp up because if Mark Carney gets in, there's going to be a lot of people that are real mad.
00:04:18.260 So do you think it's a good thing that Smith's been going down to the States so much and trying to collaborate with people in the United States?
00:04:25.680 Yeah, at least she's doing something.
00:04:27.420 I mean, we need action, and with action will come something out of it.
00:04:32.000 So by her not going down, I think it also shows a lot of Albertans that she's not willing to stand for us.
00:04:38.580 Now that the rally's over, obviously, what did you think of it?
00:04:41.300 It was amazing just to see how many people came out to support it.
00:04:49.920 This afternoon, we were told that there's over 15,000 people RSVP'd, and that's not including extras that came and all those volunteers.
00:05:01.720 And it's a massive crowd, and it was just inspiring and hopeful and exciting just to see so many people wanting a better life for ourselves.
00:05:17.200 And obviously, you're in Albertan.
00:05:18.580 How do you feel about the Alberta separatist movement?
00:05:21.420 I definitely understand it, for sure, that everyone's at a point where if the Liberals were to get another term, I think everyone would be so heartbroken that it's almost like the end of the line for a lot of people.
00:05:38.620 And how do you feel about the way that Mark Carney so far in his short tenure has treated Alberta and Western Canada?
00:05:44.260 He hasn't really shown a lot of support for Alberta and Western Canada, for sure.
00:05:51.240 Anything that Western Canada stands for, especially Alberta and Saskatchewan, he's all for squashing anything that makes our provinces prosper.
00:06:05.860 I haven't seen much good.
00:06:09.000 And comparatively, how do you think Pierre Polyevre will fight for Alberta and Western Canada?
00:06:13.440 From what we're seeing so far, that he's out and eager to do anything to help everybody from all across Canada get their lives back and live a free life, but also an affordable life.
00:06:34.860 What do you think of the growing Alberta separatist movement and the calls for a referendum?
00:06:38.620 Oh, we've been getting screwed by the rest of Canada since the 1970s, since the National Energy Programme, Trudeau Sr.
00:06:49.580 We can't get our products to market.
00:06:51.440 They take our money and treat us with disrespect.
00:06:53.680 They mock our premier.
00:06:55.220 They block our access to Tidewater.
00:06:58.200 Why wouldn't we want a referendum?
00:07:00.080 Speaking of mocking the premier, did you see the recent clip of Carney that surfaced where he was smack-talking Danielle?
00:07:05.420 Hell yeah. What did you think about that?
00:07:06.360 I mean, in politics, sometimes leaders say things that they probably shouldn't.
00:07:10.320 You know, he's talking to a crowd.
00:07:12.420 I know he's trying to rev them up.
00:07:13.900 But this has been the liberal playbook for forever.
00:07:18.140 They always have to have a villain.
00:07:19.320 And they are picking conservative premiers, people that tend to not vote for them.
00:07:24.300 And Danielle Smith, Alberta, has always been the villain with the federal liberal party.
00:07:28.000 And now he's picking on Rob Ford, too.
00:07:29.660 I think it's beneath him.
00:07:31.720 But I think he'd probably take those comments back if he was given a second chance.
00:07:35.860 I think we've got to sometimes give politicians a little bit of leeway.
00:07:38.720 But it's a consistent theme of them picking on the West in every election.
00:07:43.760 We've been the villain every time.
00:07:44.900 And so far in Carney's tenure to date, how have you felt about the way he's treated Alberta and Western Canada?
00:07:53.060 Well, he's saying things he wants to win an election.
00:07:54.900 It's how he's going to govern.
00:07:56.060 He's been there, you know, in an advisory role with this government.
00:08:00.900 You've got to remember, you're not replacing the cabinet.
00:08:03.240 They're moving the deck chairs on the Titanic is all you're doing.
00:08:05.640 Because you've got the same cabinet.
00:08:06.880 You've got a different leader.
00:08:07.660 But it's going to be the same thing.
00:08:09.260 We know they're just going to take our money and screw us anyway.
00:08:11.940 All right, ladies and gentlemen, just wrapping up here at the Paliava Rally in Edmonton.
00:08:15.980 We obviously saw record-breaking numbers.
00:08:17.780 I don't have an official number yet.
00:08:19.380 But I'm hearing around 15,000 people.
00:08:21.820 I mean, an unbelievable amount of people.
00:08:24.200 Super thankful to everyone we got to interview.
00:08:26.540 It was a great rally.
00:08:27.820 Until next time, I'm Isaac Lamer with True North signing off.
00:08:31.140 I'm Isaac Lamer with True North signing off.
