00:00:00.000 As you're seeing Andrew Lawton with True North, will you, having in the past been denied
00:00:05.360 a visa to travel with India, make, if you are Prime Minister, a priority to personally
00:00:10.380 mend that relationship with the Indian government?
00:00:12.680 Well, I want to be really clear.
00:00:13.920 It's important to have relationships with all countries, and I believe that India is
00:00:17.460 an important country for us to have communication with, to have open diplomacy with, and to
00:00:21.480 be able to have negotiations with.
00:00:23.060 I'm also very clear that I made very strong criticism of their human rights abuses against
00:00:27.640 women, against marginalized communities, against Indigenous communities, and I stand by those
00:00:32.180 concerns, and because I raised those concerns, they had a problem with it.
00:00:36.360 I'm not going to back down from human rights, but I absolutely want to have an open relationship
00:00:39.760 with all countries, and in particular India is an important trading partner, an important
00:00:43.700 nation to which we'll have ongoing relationships, and we should.
00:00:47.240 Along that vein, will you or can you right now condemn Calistani extremism, not all extremism
00:00:53.780 broadly, but specifically Calistani extremists?
00:00:56.660 So I'm going to be very clear.
00:00:58.040 People should have the right to peacefully advocate for independence.
00:01:02.840 There's nothing wrong with that at all.
00:01:04.820 Violence is wrong, and that's very clear.
00:01:07.520 And what I've done in my life, people can see from the work that I've done, I've always
00:01:11.440 promoted peace.
00:01:12.720 I've always promoted opposing hatred with love.
00:01:16.040 That's what I believe in, and it's very clearly my commitment.
00:01:18.760 I'm a Canadian.
00:01:19.580 I'm born here in Canada.
00:01:21.000 My commitments are to working to build a better country here in Canada.
00:01:23.800 People can make decisions about their independence in other countries, and that's up to them.
00:01:28.300 What I can say about that is that I defend people's right to have that discourse peacefully
00:01:32.400 and to advocate peacefully.
