Juno News - Calls to defund the police are just leftist nonsense

The death of George Floyd has triggered protests in cities across America, but also in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax, and looting and torching of premises in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and other cities. But the most ridiculous overreaction that has emanated from all of this have been the calls to defund the police.

00:00:00.000 The death of George Floyd nearly two weeks ago at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer who,

00:00:11.520 with his knee on the neck of Floyd, ignored gasping claims that he couldn't breathe,

00:00:17.240 and that was indeed tragic. His death has triggered protests in cities across America,

00:00:24.360 but also in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax. Looting also erupted in Montreal and,

00:00:31.920 to a lesser degree, Toronto. Looting and torching of premises in Minneapolis, Los Angeles,

00:00:39.200 and a number of other cities. They were burning minority-owned businesses, and in the process 0.80

00:00:46.500 killed a number of people, including a retired St. Louis police captain who was doing security

00:00:53.400 for a friend's pawn shop business. Some of the worst examples were in New York City,

00:01:00.840 in Manhattan, and Brooklyn. Now first off, let me say that there's no excuse for police brutality.

00:01:10.120 The police are entitled by law to use force in the execution of their duties, but only as much force

00:01:17.320 as is necessary. Police who use force are criminally responsible for any excess thereof. And so it is

00:01:26.600 with the Minneapolis officer. One has been charged with second-degree murder, and the other two are

00:01:33.160 charged with aiding and abetting the crime of murder too. All have been fired. Perhaps once that was done,

00:01:41.720 one might have thought that that would have been the end of it. But no, the protests, and I use the term

00:01:49.160 loosely, has not been the case, and continues today unabated. But the most ridiculous overreaction that has

00:02:00.600 emanated from all of this have been the calls to defund the police. With what exactly clear, 0.68

00:02:08.360 we have heard suggestions of rapid response social force. What? Are they suggesting having a social

00:02:18.120 worker respond to an armed bank robbery? What will they do when they arrive on the scene? Commiserate

00:02:24.840 with the perpetrator about what a tough childhood they had? The mind boggles with all the stupidity of it 1.00

00:02:32.440 all. Doing the job of a police officer is incredibly difficult. It vacillates between moments of sheer 1.00

00:02:39.720 boredom to moments of abject terror, often with just a few moments in between. The concept of a collection

00:02:49.000 of social workers responding to a drunken bar fight or a domestic dispute faced with a drunken irrational

00:02:58.920 brute further boggles the mind. During an analysis of the incident and adjusting training methods,

00:03:08.280 including use of force guidelines and creating policy and procedures make sense. But to defund the police

00:03:17.080 is sheer madness. This is all left-wing drivel, of course, as is typical.

00:03:22.920 This is all left-wing drivel. Knee-jerk ideas that come without the benefit of any actual thought or analysis.

00:03:31.400 They just have to control you in any way they can. For True North, I'm Leo Knight.
