00:00:00.000 Thanks for having me here, Ezra Levan from Rebel News.
00:00:03.340 For years before marijuana was decriminalized, it was the position of police and prosecution
00:00:10.780 not to charge anyone with small amounts in possession, so they didn't wait for the parliament.
00:00:17.060 I see that Mark Carney's favorite premier, Doug Ford, has said he's for the Castle Lock,
00:00:22.820 and other provinces like Alberta have said that too.
00:00:25.500 Will you call on Doug Ford not to wait for Carney to reconvene parliament,
00:00:32.340 but rather to issue a statement that there will be no more prosecutions of homeowners who defend their homes
00:00:39.460 just as a matter of policy, because right now his prosecutors are going after Jeremy McDonald,
00:00:46.600 whose home was invaded in Lindsay, Ontario.
00:00:50.740 And those are provincial prosecutors who are doing that?
00:00:53.500 Well, I think that's a great idea.
00:00:57.380 I don't know the legal powers that a premier has to direct the prosecution service,
00:01:02.100 so I would not comment on it, but I would hope prosecutors would stop going after law-abiding people
00:01:10.540 who are defending their property.
00:01:12.900 We need prosecutors to go after criminals.
00:01:15.460 Now, as for their ability to do that, I've never been a Crown prosecutor, so I don't know.
00:01:23.780 We have a Crown prosecutor here, Larry Brock, so maybe he can jump in on this.
00:01:29.880 Thank you, Leader.
00:01:31.700 Although Crown prosecutors in every province, particularly in Ontario, maintain independence,
00:01:38.280 as long as they can justify that independence, they are still directed policy-wise by the Attorney General.
00:01:46.840 In this case, the Attorney General of Ontario being Doug Downey.
00:01:50.660 To answer your question, Mr. Levant, Mr. Downey has that ability to perhaps direct Crowns
00:01:57.480 in light of what we are doing at a federal level to reflect upon the change in legislation we hope is about to come.
