00:00:00.000Hi, I'm Candice Malcolm, and this is the Candice Malcolm Show news update.
00:00:05.160Today is Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, and we have a great episode for you today.
00:00:10.120Today's episode is brought to you by Unsmoke, but more on them a little later.
00:00:14.300The United States and Israel have acted without engaging the United Nations or consulting allies, including Canada.
00:00:20.940We implore all parties, including the United States and Israel, to respect the rules of international engagement.
00:00:26.840So yes, that is our prime minister, Mark Carney, taking a totally different tune than what he has been saying over the last few days. So let me just take you back to Saturday. So Saturday was the day that the news broke of Operation Epic Fury. We heard that a joint U.S.-Israeli strike took out the top leadership, top brass of the evil Islamic Republic in Iran.
00:00:47.680on. And to my surprise, the prime minister actually came out in support of it. I know that in Canada
00:00:52.760right now, everything that the political class does has to be anti-American. Orange, mad, bad.
00:00:58.020Trump is the worst person on planet Earth. And that is like the theme of all of our politics.
00:01:02.180And so it was a little surprising to see Mark Carney actually come out in favor and seemingly
00:01:06.660supportive of what had been done. So here was Prime Minister Mark Carney speaking at a Canada
00:01:12.560India Forum in Mumbai on Saturday, February 28th. And he said in his own voice, in his own words,
00:01:19.460that he supported the U.S.-Israel action against Iran. Let's play that clip.
00:01:24.780Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon
00:01:30.020and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security.
00:01:35.480And he didn't just say it. As I mentioned on my show on Monday, he also put it out
00:01:39.540in a statement. Let me just read the important paragraph, right? He talks about how the Canadian
00:01:44.440government is closely following the Iran-related hostilities throughout the Middle East, urges
00:01:48.780all Canadians in Iran to shelter in place. He goes on to say, Canada's position remains clear,
00:01:52.900the Islamic Republic of Iran is the principal source of instability and terror throughout the
00:01:57.520Middle East. It has one of the worst human rights records and must never be allowed to obtain or
00:02:02.680develop nuclear weapons. Canada's international partners have consistently called upon the
00:02:07.100Iranian regime to end its nuclear program, including at the recent G7 summit, as well
00:02:12.060as the United Nations in September. He goes on saying, despite diplomatic efforts, Iran has
00:02:16.800neither fully dismantled its nuclear program, halted all enrichment activities, nor ended its
00:02:21.260support for regional terror proxy groups. Canada stands with the Iranian people in their long and
00:02:25.940courageous struggle against Iran's oppressive regime. I could have written this myself. This is
00:02:30.780spot on. He goes on to say that Canada has listed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist
00:02:36.520entity sanctioned 256 running entities, 222 individuals in response to the regime's repression
00:02:43.620and its violence against both its own people and persistently beyond its border. Canada reaffirms
00:02:49.000Israel's right to defend itself and ensure its security of its people. Canada supports the United
00:02:54.120States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from
00:02:58.560further threatening international peace and security. So there it is. It's all there in black
00:03:03.240and white. Now, as my colleague Mark Petroni pointed out on his show yesterday, that was what
00:03:08.900Mark Carney was saying. But interestingly, we heard an evolving sort of stance and position
00:03:13.880from his own cabinet. So here is his foreign affairs minister on the same day, on Saturday,
00:03:19.680February 28th, foreign affairs minister Anita Nan was also speaking to reporters in Mumbai,
00:03:24.380and she said that she would have preferred a diplomatic solution. So kind of like casting a
00:03:30.700little bit of doubt here saying that actually no we don't really support it we would have preferred
00:03:34.380a diplomatic solution. I think we all would have preferred a diplomatic solution. The problem is
00:03:38.940that that hasn't worked with Iran. It hasn't worked for decades because they lie and they
00:03:43.060continue to develop their program. If a diplomatic solution would have worked it would have worked
00:03:46.900already. Anyways here is Anita Nand, Foreign Affairs Minister for Canada, saying that she
00:03:51.920would prefer a diplomatic solution. We prefer a diplomatic solution. This is why I have spent the
00:03:57.720last two days speaking with my counterparts across the Middle East and in the Gulf states
00:04:04.220from Jordan to Qatar to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to UAE and all of my G7 counterparts
00:04:14.800stressing that Canada believes in a diplomatic and peaceful solution and as soon as possible
00:04:23.640we would like parties to get to the table. And then another evolution comes. Now speaking in
00:04:31.160Sydney, Australia, defense minister David McKinty in the Mark Carney government calls for a cease
00:04:37.740fire. Says enough is enough. You know, two days ago we supported this measure. Now we want a
00:04:42.440cease fire. Let's play that clip. And the prime minister and the government decided
00:04:46.300from the beginning of this that we would support this incursion. But we're also calling
00:04:53.460for a diplomatic end to it we very much would prefer to see peace at a ceasefire that's what
00:05:01.620my colleague minister anand is driving forward now with her colleagues around the world and so
00:05:07.060we'll see where this takes us that was tuesday march 3rd so two days after the attack and
00:05:12.020happening yesterday and then what do we see mark carney comes out and changes his tune and condemns
00:05:18.980the action says it breaks international law actually sounding a lot like the ndp that's
00:05:22.980Remember, this is what Heather McPherson, NDP candidate for leadership, she came out saying,
00:05:28.260this is breaking international law and saying that it was not a just act, right? And now Mark
00:05:36.000Carney is echoing the NDP's position and saying that it's a failure of international order and
00:05:42.860that Canada was not consulted. I'm going to play this clip again for you because it was just
00:05:47.760really unbelievable. Look at how weak he looks. Look at how unsure of himself he looks. Look at
00:05:51.900how pathetic he looks. Really, really unbelievable stuff from our prime minister down in Sydney.
00:05:57.100Let's play that clip one more time. We support efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear
00:06:01.860weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security.
00:06:08.280Because Canada is taking the world as it is, not passively waiting for a world we wish to be.
00:06:15.680we do however take this position with regret because the current conflict is another example
00:06:23.520of the failure of the international order despite decades of un security council resolutions the
00:06:30.560tireless work of the international atomic energy agency in the succession of sanctions and
00:06:36.700diplomatic frameworks iran's nuclear threat remains and now the united states and israel
00:06:43.480have acted without engaging the united nations or consulting allies including canada so where to
00:06:50.880from here with a rapidly spreading conflict and growing threats to civilian life canada reaffirms
00:06:58.860that international law binds all belligerents we condemn the strikes carried out by iran on
00:07:05.160civilians and civilian infrastructure across the middle east and we implore all parties including
00:07:10.960the United States and Israel to respect the rules of international engagement.
00:07:16.420Canada calls for a rapid de-escalation of hostilities and is prepared to assist in
00:07:20.800achieving this goal. Okay, so I want you to just take a look at that weakness. He was getting
00:07:24.820absolutely shredded on social media from people all over Canada, all over the world, like what is
00:07:30.080this flip-flop, weakness, pathetic, you know, whining and complaining that we weren't included
00:07:35.760in this. Not a good look from our prime minister. Juxtapose that with conservative leader Pierre
00:07:40.580Polyev, who was actually looking quite confident and hitting his stride. So he was speaking
00:07:45.940in London, England at the annual event held by the Centre for Policy Studies,
00:07:52.420the Margaret Thatcher lecture. And I will say, Pierre Polyev is looking very strong and very
00:07:58.580sure of himself. So this is the first clip from Polyev calling for a modern KANZUC, like a Canada,
00:08:04.020New Zealand, Australia, UK alliance and partnership to deepen trade, reduce policy,
00:08:09.860regulatory barriers and expand mobility so here is poly of calling for a new sort of
00:08:16.740free trade agreement between these western countries warm words about old alliances are
00:08:23.220not enough when the treaties and agreements that allow us to trade freely face upheaval we need to
00:08:28.180double down and deepen our ties with our older and most trusted friends instead of shrinking
00:08:33.220markets behind tariffs we should expand opportunities among friends that is why i
00:08:38.500I believe the time has come for a partnership between Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia,
00:09:25.140For example, Canadian beef is not able to make it into as many marketplaces of this
00:09:30.240country as it should because of regulatory obstacles.
00:09:33.600must remove these types of obstacles. Next, Polyev also talks about Canada's rich history connected
00:09:39.840to our British political roots as well as our ethnic roots from the original settlers of Canada
00:09:46.560built this country, connecting us back to English liberty, the traditions of freedom that date back
00:09:51.840to the Magna Carta. Let's play that clip. As the centuries progressed, what started as rights and
00:09:58.480freedoms for the few gradually grew and grew to the many and now today for all i can stand here
00:10:06.320and connect this ancient charter to our own laws more than 800 years later in a land unknown to
00:10:12.880the men who signed it that shows the enduring power of the ideas and principles but only if
00:10:19.360we protect them these principles are our inheritance as canadians they are the core of our conservative
00:10:24.960philosophy conserving ancient liberties as burke said there is a contract between the dead the
00:10:30.960living and the yet to be born that contract requires we pass what we inherited from our
00:10:36.320forebears onto our children freedom is hundreds of years old but only one generation deep
00:10:42.720we must do our job in our living time to pay it forward to those who will come after us
00:10:48.880because what started here by the muddy banks of the thames is now our duty to continue an ocean
00:10:55.920away in canada and then this is the clip that pierre polyev posted on his own social media
00:11:02.000strong free unbreakable that's exactly how he looked let's play that clip from stephen harper
00:11:06.640and john mcdonald in canada from thatcher and churchill here conservatives have always known
00:11:10.960the greatness of the nation lies in its working people we will champion them by again restoring
00:11:15.840meritocratic, bottom-up, competitive economy, an economy where businesses
00:11:20.500compete through paying more wages to attract workers and lowering prices to
00:11:24.440attract customers, where business is disciplined by competition, not propped
00:11:28.800up by handouts, carve-outs and bailouts. Economies that are stronger at home so
00:11:33.920that they can have unbreakable leverage abroad." So interesting time in Canadian
00:11:39.060politics. You can see the shifts starting to happen and really just
00:11:43.340unbelievable to see our government and the prime minister of the liberal government just flip
00:11:47.600flopping and changing their position on a dime. Maybe they saw public opinion bullying and realize
00:11:51.920that they actually shouldn't support the war. I'm not exactly sure, but really, really unbelievable.
00:11:56.340It's time to modernize Canada's rules on nicotine. Alternatives to cigarettes like heated tobacco,
00:12:02.160vaping products, and oral smokeless products don't burn tobacco or produce smoke. Now they aren't
00:12:08.220risk-free, but the growing body of scientific evidence shows that they have the potential to
00:12:13.840be substantially less harmful than smoking cigarettes. Now, despite this, Canadians are
00:12:19.760banned from accessing this critical information and sometimes even banned from the products.
00:12:25.540Nicotine pouches remain banned in convenience stores across the country and current laws ban
00:12:30.980communication about the risk of these products compared to cigarettes. It's absolutely ridiculous.
00:12:36.840The evidence is here. The tools exist. Canadians deserve to have the freedom to know about them, to learn about them, to even just understand them. It's a free country. We should be able to have this information. So learn more about this campaign and our friends over at Unsmoke by visiting their website, unsmoke.ca. And thank you so much to Unsmoke for sponsoring this episode.
00:12:59.420Okay, I want to give an update on the terrorist attacks we have been seeing in Toronto.
00:13:03.660There's been other terrorist attacks in the wake of this Operation Epic Fury in Iran,
00:13:08.840an unbelievable, horrific attack in Austin, Texas at a nightclub with a person who is
00:13:13.720apparently a supporter of the Ayatollah and picked up arms against innocent people in
00:13:18.640response to what happened, taking out the leadership of the Islamic Republic.
00:13:23.140And then there's also some attacks in Toronto, no casualties, thankfully, but obviously shooting
00:13:28.500up a synagogue in Toronto is totally, totally unacceptable. So the police commented on this
00:13:34.400yesterday. Here is Toronto Police Chief Rob Johnson updating the media on the shooting that
00:13:41.320happened at the Temple Iman Ilu in North York last night. Let's play that clip. A shooting targeting
00:13:46.760a place of worship is totally unacceptable. It is alarming. It is something we treat with the
00:13:52.680highest priority. I know that incidents like this create fear and anger within the Jewish community.
00:13:59.640We recognize that this does not occur in isolation. And at the outset of the military actions in Iran
00:14:06.760on Saturday we further increased our visibility and patrols knowing this geopolitical event would
00:14:13.400have local impacts. Our intelligence teams are continuously monitoring global events and
00:14:18.840assessing any impact they may have locally. And our public safety minister, Gary Anisangari,
00:14:25.840also posted about this. He said, I am deeply concerned by reports of gunfire damaging a
00:14:30.020synagogue in North York. Last night, violence has no place in our communities. We must stand
00:14:33.260together against antisemitism and hate. My thoughts are with the Jewish community in Canada
00:14:37.040as police continue to investigate. Our friend Ezra Levant commented on this tweet and said,
00:14:42.840hey guys, great news. The public safety minister has his thoughts to the Jews whose synagogue was
00:14:47.840shot up last night. This public safety minister who was the lawyer for a terrorist group must
00:14:53.100recuse himself from any terror files. A very good point, Ezra. And I want to provide a little bit
00:14:58.180of an update and some more information that we're going to break on the show today about this Islamic
00:15:02.860center that Juno News was reporting had a celebration of life for the dead Ayatollah
00:15:08.640Khamenei. And they had it on their website, right? It's right there in black and white. Melanie
00:15:13.700Bennett broke the story on Juno News. I'm going to read a little bit from her news story. GTA
00:15:17.840Islamic Center advertises memorial for dead terrorist mastermind Khamenei. Prominent Islamic
00:15:22.680Center in Brampton, Ontario advertised memorial service to celebrate the life and death of Ayatollah
00:15:27.480Ali Khamenei, referring to the Islamic theocratic dictator. Prominent Islamic Center in Brampton,
00:15:33.520Ontario advertised memorial service to celebrate the life and death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,
00:15:37.820referring to the Islamic theocratic dictator and supporter of international terrorism as a
00:15:43.460martyr so she basically goes on to describe how this is islamic center posted the event and what
00:15:49.300it said on their website in arabic basically saying that it was like a celebration of life
00:15:54.100and calling him a martyr and basically just praising him in their uh post melanie bennett
00:16:00.820has the receipt she took a screenshot of it and she also uh posted this on social media
00:16:06.260dear patrick brown why is the islamic shia uh jamaat of toronto hosting celebration of life
00:16:11.140for designated terror leader company. And then she posts the screenshot plus the public safety
00:16:18.980reference that this is a terrorist entity. And so basically, she goes on to do the digging and
00:16:26.640the research and shows that according to federal grant database, this mosque, this Islamic center
00:16:31.460has actually received $373,000 in funding from public safety and employment and social development
00:16:38.920Revenue Canada filings show that the organization reports millions in charitable donation revenues
00:16:44.220and has transferred funds to other notable charities like the National Council of Canadian
00:16:50.660Muslims and Islamic Relief Canada. She shares Andy Lee's ex-post showing some of these grants
00:16:56.960that they receive, like hundreds of thousands of dollars. This one here is for $50,000.
00:17:01.380And then she has a couple of other ones. Now, interestingly, when this tweet of Melanie
00:17:07.680Bennett's and this news story came out, they kind of went viral. And all of a sudden, the link to
00:17:13.100that event was gone, right? They wiped it. They took it off their website. They had also posted
00:17:18.080a live stream of the actual event itself. And they pulled that down. Melanie Bennett watched it.
00:17:22.620She has screenshots of it, but they've deleted it. They've wiped it off. And so they're basically
00:17:27.960pretending that this didn't happen and that it's not true. I want to read you an email
00:17:32.340that they sent to Melanie Bennett, basically threatening her, accusing her of lying and
00:17:39.140saying that they're going to take appropriate action, that measures are being taken. Measures
00:17:44.540are being taken against Juno News for the crime of reporting the truth. So this is what they did
00:17:49.440in responding. Melanie reached out to them as a journalist does say, hey, can you comment on this
00:17:53.980event that you're hosting for the Ayatollah here in Toronto? They say, hi, Melanie, thank you for
00:17:58.720your email. Please find our formal written response below. And that's a statement from
00:18:02.580the ISIJ of Toronto, March 2nd. It has come to our attention that a post in relation to a vigil for
00:18:08.960Ayatollah Khamenei is now circulating on social media. We have received a number of inquiries
00:18:13.520about this content. We want to be clear that this post was made without authorization or approval.
00:18:20.000This event, as described in the post, did not take place. Rather, we held and continue to hold
00:18:25.560regular programming during the blessed month of Ramadan, when our congregation comes together
00:18:30.260to break our fast and pray together as a community. Appropriate measures have been taken
00:18:35.440in regards to this unauthorized post. So it's unclear whether they're saying that Juno News
00:18:41.020sharing the screenshot and sharing this news story is unauthorized. And so measures are going to be
00:18:46.240taken against us. Is that what he means? Or is he saying that someone in his own organization
00:18:51.080posted it and was not authorized by like the higher up and that that person is having appropriate
00:18:57.480measures being taken against and really not clear by his email. It kind of reads a little bit like
00:19:02.420a threat to me, but it could just mean that they're taking measures against the employee
00:19:07.460who maybe acted rogue. I don't know if that's what they're saying. It says, ISIJ is a faith-based
00:19:11.980organization dedicated to spiritual guidance, community support, charitable service, remain
00:19:15.820committed to serving our diverse membership with compassion, inclusivity, and respect for all
00:19:21.000peoples affected by the current crises thanks is ij so i don't know how do you read that one i i
00:19:26.360kind of read it like they're saying you have unauthorized poster pretending that it didn't
00:19:30.280exist and again the fact that they took down the original post and they took down the live stream
00:19:35.240which already happened the event already happened and they did have a vigil for the ayatollah but
00:19:40.840it's they've taken it down now um so possibly trying to cover your tracks this is obviously
00:19:45.080a developing story and we will continue uh to bring you the latest as it happens all right
00:19:49.960It focuses all the time we have for today.
