00:00:00.000 After the French debate, Rosemary Barton accused your journalist, Drea Humphries, of trafficking 1.00
00:00:06.500 in misinformation, and she fact-checked her live on television claiming that, yes, there have been
00:00:12.320 remains of Indigenous children found in various places across the country. Let's play that clip.
00:00:16.780 I have to sort of address the elephant in the room. How are these people chosen to answer these
00:00:22.660 questions? And I don't know if either one of you have an answer for that, but I think there will
00:00:25.920 be people at home saying, some of these seem like odd questions, some of them aren't getting
00:00:29.700 answered how come we've heard so often from this one particular outlet any idea what's going on
00:00:34.660 there's three right-wing um very right-wing uh media we can call them media websites that are
00:00:41.700 present uh in there they get in line to ask a question like anybody else their accreditation
00:00:46.820 has been approved by the commission of debates and so they get the right to stand in line and
00:00:51.700 ask a question uh that they choose to ask in this case you saw mr singh and this has been his
00:00:57.140 position for some time to refuse to answer questions rebel news in particular traffics
00:01:02.180 and misinformation facts uh lack of facts and uh as you heard in that question which was uh woven
00:01:09.140 with some truth and some things that weren't true yes there have been uh burnings of christian
00:01:14.500 catholic churches uh yes there have been remains of indigenous children found into various places
00:01:20.660 around the country which she misrepresented we'll see if mr polio gets any questions from
00:01:25.060 right-wing organizations i would suspect no we track this stuff pretty closely ezra and every
00:01:30.660 time they've done an excavation which haven't there haven't been very many right most of the time
00:01:35.300 you know the the industries behind the first nations unmarked grave thing they really want
00:01:39.300 to drum up the accusation and then when it comes to the actual report they bury it they don't want
00:01:43.700 it done they don't want to excavate they've never excavated in cantaloupes where the initial 215
00:01:49.940 soil disturbances were found and so when rosemary barton said that i i thought you know she actually
00:01:55.380 believes the propaganda she believes lies because i think that she was in good faith trying to fact
00:02:00.020 check because she believes that she knows the truth and the reality is that she's not very
00:02:03.940 well informed ezra because yes there have been some excavations they have never found remains
00:02:08.900 they have never found remains and so even the cbc this is i'll give someone at the organization
00:02:13.380 credit for this this fact check popped up april 17th so here let me read it this is what it says
00:02:18.260 buried at the bottom of a cbc news story right rosemary barton didn't have to apologize but they 0.61
00:02:22.900 did have to issue a correction for what she just said here it says on april 16th during a live
00:02:27.380 broadcast following the french language federal election leaders debate on cbc news network chief
00:02:31.700 political correspondent rosemary barton said quote yes there have been remains of indigenous children
00:02:36.420 found in various places across the country unquote as cbc news has reported on multiple occasions
00:02:41.780 what several indigenous communities across canada have discovered on sites of some
00:02:45.540 former residential schools are potential barrier sites or unmarked rake
