00:00:00.000 do people prefer security or do they prefer freedom it's a really interesting question
00:00:10.980 that i've been debating lately and i think if people's behavior during the coronavirus pandemic
00:00:15.220 is any indication then security is going to win hands down now on one hand it's actually
00:00:19.900 pretty understandable freedom and the more freedom you get is actually quite challenging
00:00:24.360 not only do you have to make decisions for yourself but you have to also enact them
00:00:28.520 and then also live with the consequences i've likened it to going to the supermarket and
00:00:34.160 standing in the barbecue sauce aisle there may be a situation where you end up seeing you know
00:00:38.200 a hundred different kinds of barbecue sauce and you're quite a bit overwhelmed by the amount of
00:00:43.000 choice that you have the amount of freedom is actually overwhelming to you and so you end up
00:00:47.540 just picking something based on the picture or the name not really uh you know there's not really any
00:00:52.260 rhyme or reason you're just kind of going with whatever you find and that's probably an example
00:00:56.400 of you know too much freedom too much choice that is is perhaps detrimental especially if that is
00:01:01.160 your entire life and you're bombarded with that level of freedom and choice on the other hand you
00:01:06.100 have security where you are sort of delegating things to the government and you're allowing
00:01:10.960 government experts to decide certain things for you that may be with regards to education it may
00:01:16.600 be regards to health it's maybe with regards to foreign policy it could be almost anything that we
00:01:21.040 are delegating for the government but in this case security it's definitely falling under the umbrella of
00:01:25.900 health because we are now delegating to some of our health officials um some elected and non-elected
00:01:30.380 of what we should be doing during this pandemic now i was prompted to write this video by uh two things
00:01:37.480 one is a facebook post that i made which i'll get into in a second but it's overall the interest of
00:01:43.160 people in calling the police to narc on their neighbors because their neighbors possibly had a
00:01:48.120 barbecue at the same time as their other neighbors are having a barbecue and they were just chatting
00:01:51.580 with each other over the fence you know maybe 10 20 feet away from each other but you know
00:01:55.760 it's more than five people so god forbid you talk to someone in your backyard and a number of people
00:02:00.540 that i've seen online have been interested in calling the police and you know saying that it's
00:02:04.400 it's not um you know it's it's not malicious it's life-saving um which is really just an excuse that
00:02:09.840 you can use for almost anything if you want to logic it out that way but i made a post on facebook
00:02:14.040 regardless um i'll read it to you let's see if you can catch um sort of you know hidden hidden message
00:02:19.220 there uh so i wrote um and i'm not going to put it up just so it's it's not uh you know you don't you
00:02:23.700 don't cheat by seeing it um but i wrote here uh many people are concerned that not enough are taking
00:02:29.280 the social distancing and mandatory stay home orders seriously and want the police to intervene
00:02:33.340 that is why the government created a new specialized task force which so many people have been demanding
00:02:38.400 and if you see someone standing less than six feet away from another person leaving their house
00:02:43.060 unnecessarily or behaving otherwise un-canadian then please call the government enforcement
00:02:48.900 special task force action police organization and i put a 1-800 number so that acronym again is the
00:02:55.240 government g enforcement e special task force st action a police organization g-e-s-t-a-p-o gestapo i
00:03:05.940 cannot tell you the amount of positive response i received um one person noted that the phone number
00:03:12.360 doesn't work because i've said you know there is no such department thankfully uh that we can we can
00:03:16.960 call to uh you know narc on people when they're behaving un-canadian but um the amount of people
00:03:22.380 interested in having such a department i don't know if they have really thought through what does
00:03:28.740 that mean what does it mean if you have a government department that you can just call and you know
00:03:33.540 complain about your neighbors for behaving in an un-canadian fashion and so that got me thinking
00:03:39.620 about the desire for security which again in this instance is health it's you know they're intimately
00:03:46.200 tied health and security health and safety so i wanted to sort of make this video and remind people
00:03:51.860 that the government is not simply a nebulous creation that exists in the ether somewhere that we
00:03:59.920 can delegate things to the government is a creation of people and you know again i i'm not a
00:04:07.220 um libertarian or you know so far libertarian that i've i'm bordering on anarchist in that i feel
00:04:12.080 government has no role i think government actually has an important role to play and when it plays
00:04:16.120 its specific role and plays it well that's to you know that's to the advantage of of all citizens and
00:04:21.260 all canadians but i wanted to remind people that when we're talking about delegating things to the
00:04:26.920 government we're talking about delegating things to justin trudeau and patty hadju and a number of
00:04:32.780 people who have not only um you know who may not be qualified for all the decisions that they're
00:04:38.640 being forced to make and i don't envy them they're being forced to make a lot of decisions which i
00:04:42.420 don't know if anyone really can be qualified for such a thing but we're delegating to these people
00:04:49.100 who are possibly just like you and me and so i wanted to pull up a couple of news articles that
00:04:53.320 really highlight why total delegation and total um you know blind trust in in the government in in any
00:05:00.680 instance but especially in this instance is is really not a good thing and so the first one here
00:05:04.960 is um patty hadju in an article about how research supports canada's decision to reject a coronavirus
00:05:10.120 travel ban so you may recall early on as i'll show you the next one here you may recall that patty hadju
00:05:15.380 came out and said that uh you know viruses don't have borders we can't actually close the virus it's
00:05:19.460 not going to do anything and it's also low-key kind of racist if you want to close the border with
00:05:23.080 china and then we have just uh you know a little while later we have that uh you know oh we're actually
00:05:27.840 we are going to close our borders because uh closing our borders is obviously what is important
00:05:31.440 to uh you know keep things safe and keep canadian safe um this is despite the fact that there's
00:05:36.640 still it's still questionable of how close the borders are a number of people have been posting
00:05:40.320 on social media um flights coming in and out and it you know it's not clear at least it was not clear
00:05:44.360 to me what those flights are for if it's shipments of you know goods material people um so you know that
00:05:50.700 is questionable and then as true north broke the story um people at the um uh the the illegal uh
00:05:58.060 border crossings um or the irregular border crossings if you prefer um that are still coming
00:06:03.180 through that only until uh enough attention was brought to it that the government didn't crack
00:06:07.280 down and it still appears that they you know they may not be um cracking down so so toughly on this
00:06:11.520 so a bit of flip-flop on the borders then there was uh this one here um should you wear a face mask
00:06:17.400 so this one was a bit early on this is in march um and so uh dr teresa tam canada's chief public
00:06:22.600 health officer um putting on a mat putting a mask on ace on an asymptomatic person is not beneficial
00:06:27.940 so you know don't don't bother wearing a mask not beneficial and we have another article um again
00:06:33.940 irrelevant the source but the quote is where it's at here so then we have here uh dr tam confirming
00:06:40.560 that wearing masks outside even if asymptomatic will actually help reduce the spread of covet 19.
00:06:45.680 so yes and no and no and yes we don't know we kind of know um this is really the issue
00:06:53.740 by leaving everything up to government experts in a in a blind manner not trusting that people are
00:06:59.740 you know um qualified they're making the appropriate decisions and having oversight but by
00:07:04.380 leaving it up to people and sort of um abandoning our duty to hold government to account because
00:07:10.500 government ultimately is there to serve the people not the other way around we're not there to
00:07:13.980 simply do the diktats of what government says um but by abandoning um but by abandoning the
00:07:20.760 government then abandon the government to its own devices then we're actually creating problems from
00:07:24.680 ourselves uh for ourselves and this is ultimately what you can end up with where the federal government
00:07:30.820 is now going to want to put out a law that is going to help fight pandemic misinformation even
00:07:36.300 though the government itself the prime minister himself patty had you herself have put out
00:07:43.040 information that they've then rescinded so is that is that misinformation is that something that we
00:07:47.800 should be concerned about are they going to fall into their own trap i mean there's already been
00:07:51.720 enough um questions of the prime minister going uh you know visiting his family going on a trip and uh
00:07:56.820 you know taking a lot of flack and rightfully so for uh not listening to the stay home orders when
00:08:01.920 he's been uh you know self self-isolating so this is i think really where we're at and i kind of wanted
00:08:08.300 to end off with um a post that i saw on facebook it's not it's not my post but i wanted to read to
00:08:13.140 you um a couple of posts here a couple of coronavirus guidelines um as they are that sort of outline the
00:08:18.780 silliness of the situation and it's you know basically you can't leave for any reason except if you
00:08:24.020 have to then you can master useless but maybe you have to wear one and it can save you and it's useless
00:08:29.080 but it might be also mandatory um stores are closed except for the ones that are open um you shouldn't
00:08:33.780 go to hospitals unless you absolutely have to and the same applies to doctors you shouldn't go there
00:08:37.440 unless you have to provided that you're not too sick to go there um the virus is deadly and it's not
00:08:42.840 too scary except sometimes it can lead to global disaster gloves won't help but they still can help
00:08:46.900 and it goes on and on and on and you know i'll scroll down you guys can pause the video and read some
00:08:51.680 of these there you know on one hand it's the uh lately i've been thinking it's the it's the original
00:08:57.860 meaning of a comedy and a tragedy that's all wrapped up into one where you you kind of laugh
00:09:02.080 and cry at the same time because these things are pretty accurate but also pretty ridiculous and just
00:09:08.020 kind of you know kind of make you wonder um where we are at in terms of the situation so overall you
00:09:14.620 know what do you guys think is this something do you think that people prefer freedom or that people
00:09:20.560 prefer security do you think that people's perceptions of that choice has changed lately i'd love
00:09:26.140 to hear what everyone thinks um but in the meantime i'm uh sam ashkenazi for uh true north thank you
00:09:31.480 for uh watching follow us on social media and uh have yourself a uh a great day great evening and
00:09:37.320 stay safe wash your hands take care
00:09:38.640 you
